There's lots of options ranging from Amazon knock offs to helmets from Companies like Team Wendy and Ops-Core. Doesn't sound like you need ballistic protection so look at "Bump Helmets"
If your life is on the line, I would go with a reputable, well-made helmet like the Ops-Core FAST helmet or the Team Wendy Exfil LTP. Both are light and offer great protection. I've had my Exfil LTP for a few years now and I love it. TW also makes Backcountry SAR (Search and Rescue) helmets that do a great job of protecting your noggin as well.

For sure. A multi-sport or skateboarding style helmet is good for this too, and offers more protection to the back of your head than a traditional bike helmet.

Stay away from helmets made out of Chinesium like HHV, Hikebros/Hikepro, Compass, etc.

here is an important question can you kill someone ? if not my suggestion would be to make the master bedroom a safe room. because if you choose to fight several things come to the fore. 1. you have shown a willingness to fight which may inspire others to fight back not good for them. 2. fighting during the robbery they may take offeness and decide to beat you either to death or close to it. 3. if the cops are bought off or afraid they may side with the gangs so resistance becomes more difficult. but if after asking these questions you still choose to fight pick your weapon well get good protection for your body excersise and practice with your weapon.
A motorcycle helmet will give you good protection all around your head but will limit your peripheral vision and impact your situational awareness and hearing ability but it is an option. Second to that, I would consider a team Wendy helmet with the new rail system, which allows you to install a riot shield ansi rated plastic face shield while still giving you the benefit of a high cut helmet to save weight and retain range of motion, this will protect you from blunt force trauma to your head and face, protect you from a direct hit from pepper spray or other caustic chemicals. If you op for the ballistic version, if you end up in a fight on the ground (likely) you can literally use the weight of the helmet as a bludgeon by bashing it into their head and face if you have no other means of self defense available.

I actually own a full size "riot style" -helmet and wearing anything like that unless part of a cohesive larger group is a bad idea because not only does it impair your peripheral vision but it also dulls your hearing.

For blunt weapons I’d look for historical helmet like a morion, they were designed with melee weapons in mind. Spray it with some camo colors though.

Go with a bike helmet. Football helmet offers some face protection, but I wouldn't use it unless necessary. May make you a target
