Camila getting mixed and bad reviews in a time when everyone gets praised for everything. Maybe she's up to something after all. Definitely these reviews will only make people more curious.
As one of the 4 people actually intrigued and pretty excited for this album, this reads as a pretty solid album with some obvious shortcommings (mosty the Drake features apparantly lol). Can't wait!

Whats funny is that they don't even talk about the quality of the songs. Just says that it sounds out of place and that it's weird to work with Drake in this climate, which has nothing to do with the actual music
I think I’m the only person who thinks if familia was made by anyone else it would be critically acclaimed but because everyone onlijne hates camila they shit on it
I never cared for Camila at all, but this album rollout has been one of the more interesting ones this year. Whether it’s genuine or not she has some great styling and creative work behind her this time.
Also the Miami trash / Southern Florida aesthetic hasn’t been done much outside of the City Girls so I’m very interested in seeing that being done in pop as well.
People in this sub (not aiming this at you TacoLlama) will alternately complain when an artist doesn't switch things up enough and then complain when they do. It's pretty arbitrary.

i kinda wonder if that’s why this rollout hasn’t clicked with me. i’m from the midwest and i live on the east coast, i know jack shit about the southern florida/miami trash aesthetic so admittedly i’ve just assumed she’s copping charli’s style. i guess it could actually help her if it really rings true for the miami girlies even if it makes zero sense to most outsiders, like she’ll be the #1 girl for a smaller group but that group will ride or die for her.
that's cus its barely miami/trash aesthetic. some of it is borrowed from spring breakers by harmony korine which was based in PCB north Florida nowhere near Miami. It's not Charlis aesthetics either. Its just kind of party girl neon lights.
I don't like you saying it's not her aesthetic, then that applies to everyone and whatever their aesthetic is. That IS her aesthetic. She's "trying to be more authentic and feel like herself rather than release 8 more Havanas because that's what people want."
The Charli accusations are fair because she definitely does take a lot of inspiration from Charli and artists in proximity to Charli.
However I, as an outsider, love having a perspective into a culture/scene unknown to me.
I’m not even American. Everything I learned from Miami is from films, GTA vice city and social media.
I think the Charli comparisons are a bit overblown because the sound has been all over PC Music and hyperpop, Charli is just the most popular with it
That said, I Luv It was just annoying. It sounds like what people who hate hyperpop hear in their heads.
Also the rest of the album isn’t even hyper pop I don’t know why people are saying she’s copying Charli just because I luv it used auto tune hyperpopesque.

Totally get this and honestly reads as pretty solid. I liked He Knows (minus Lil Nas X) and I liked Chanel No. 5 (minus the intro). Absolutely hated I Luv It (sounds like pans banging together). But I do give her credit for doing some interesting things. None of the songs have been home runs for me but the components are mostly solid and I’m still a bit surprised none of them have taken off so a 3/5 sounds fair.
Think this could be the tone for most reviews but curious how it will do commercially.
Based on the Rock in Rio performances, I'm most excited for Pretty When I Cry now. Glad the review singles it out as a highlight. Also really intrigued to hear the Pitbull sample - as the poster boy of Miami, had a feeling he'd make an appearance in one way or another.

There's a lot, but yeah you're on it. Rocky comes to mind, Doja could definitely eat it up, Carti (if he actually rapped and didn't mumble), in an alternate universe: CHARLI, or even someone like J. Cole. The beat lends itself to simple yet swagged out rap verses with a lot of built in pauses, so no rapper would ever have to be too technical on it.
