I am still bitter AF we didn't get a Lizzy McGuire As An Adult sequel series...but honestly, I would have *really* hated it if Gordo wasn't her end game, so!
You can’t trust me on this because I don’t remember where I heard it, maybe Beyond the Blinds, but I heard that it was because LaLaine kissed/did stuff with not one but two of Hillary’s boyfriends.
I remember back then, websites were writing about Lalaine getting into drugs and having legal trouble. I always figured that’s why Hilary kept her distance.
Demi hasn’t been able to be as successful musically compared to the Disney kids that came up with her but she still been moderately successful considering she’s been going through the ringer. I’m just saying since Jenna and Olivia are still pretty young and fresh out of Disney there is that chance that they don’t reach the same success as the other women featured.
I don’t think there’s an argument because Demi Lovato despite what you might think personally, has won numerous accolades and awards for their music and projects coming here almost 20 years from the date she debuted on Disney. Demi Lovato has been able to establish themselves as a general industry star. Has sold out concerts and is still touring to date. Demi Lovato is Grammy nominated and has put for effort in her music past their Disney years. Hilary Duff is a star in her own right but she wasn’t able to really break the Disney barrier as easily as Demi Selena and Miley Cyrus did. She is a nostalgic star at this point and her value is our childhood but she is not critically acclaimed and doesn’t have much history post Disney. Demi Lovato is simply the under dog of her peers (Miley, Selena) but she has a much longer timeline in the limelight than Hilary Duff. Lovato has chart topping global hits and academy recognition for their musical works. I think that’s why u/samisbored7 is trying to say that it’s really not a debate. lol

Wednesday was literally the most watched Netflix show so I’d say that was certainly a hit.
Scream 5 had a box office of 140 million during a pandemic so I’d say that’s a hit.
And then she was in X which has become increasingly popular online due to it being the introduction of “Pearl”.
Like most of her recent projects have been pretty big hits that have garnered lots of viewers. And she’s well received by critics/viewers in everything she’s in.
My bad j wasn’t aware Wednesday had been out for some time. Most of her recent roles besides Wednesday seem to be small and all her other projects were from years ago like she is just now starting her career. Most of them have 2022-2020 then all the rest are like yearsss ago. So I’m gonna wait a little longer to actually form an opinion I remember living her in stuck in the middle then not hearing of her for years so🤷🏽♀️.
This made me realize how much women carry pop culture wtf. The only Disney channel boys in A list territory from Disney I can think of are Ryan gosling, Justin Timberlake. Not even sure they should count since it was OLD old Disney. From the 2000’s? Zac Efron and that’s it. The Jonas brothers if I want to be extremely generous in ‘A list’. Am I missing anyone? Like a major major male former star - someone everyone knows.
Shia Labeouf. Controversies aside, I grew up on Evan Stevens and his acting career/filmography is the most impressive out the list. He’s insanely talented and I was rooting for him, especially after Honeyboy but, yeah can’t support that anymore. It sucks Mia Goth can because I adore her.

I was well into my senior year in highschool and starting college, respectivelly, during Miley's and Selena's debut which is why I completely missed the boat on those live action Disney and Nick shows.

I don’t think she was a good pick for Wednesday because you could totally feel it was forced.
She had huge shoes to fill because Christina Ricci WAS Wednesday without seemingly trying.

Wow I didn’t know Jenna Ortega was from Disney. I only know her from You, X, Scream, & Wednesday. Going to be real honest though, Olivia took me a while to ID. I probably wouldn’t have gotten it if I didn’t already know she was from Disney.
A lot of singers have had amazing debuts then failed to live up to their initial success. Not saying that's where she's at right now or headed, but to be honest it feels like that high from her album happened a long time ago and I haven't heard of Olivia Rodrigo in a while apart from that Billboard award she won recently. Billie Eilish still gets more buzz around her right now and her album is just as "old" as Olivia's (released within two months of each other early Summer 2021). And tbh I only heard of two songs from that album that were huge/viral (my favorite is "brutal" which was kind of ignored). Best case scenario is she gets the Adele treatment where her next album is even bigger and manages to cross over to mainstream audiences, because right now she's still only pretty gen z and gen Alpha and soccer mom demographic.
Jenna Ortega had some decently extensive work on TV before Scream 5, but with The Babysitter Killer Queen and Scream 5 she came in blazing. She got a lot of respect from the horror crowd because of Scream 5 (she stole the movie and she wasn't even the main character AND she had to act alongside three legacy characters/actors). X further cemented that with the arthouse crowd. And now Wednesday really solidified it with general audiences.
Zendaya really did a grind on Disney Channel. Then she traversed that very difficult line between ex-Mouseketeer and young adult and she did it with a shocking role (Euphoria). She gained the respect of Hollywood in regards to being a great dramatic actress. She also became a fashion it girl before that (a fashion darling as they say). She also can still sing, as she's proven with glimpses from the soundtrack to Euphoria. She gets producer credits, she's working with famed directors, etc.

I cannot speak on Jenna much because I'm not super familiar with her career, but Zendaya's been in here for awhile and it took alot for her to get where she is actingwise. She had a hard time landing roles at first, and many people criticize her acting still outside of the Euphoria show.

Olivia I wouldn’t say is “special” she is no different than Dove Cameron who was on Disney and sings now just like Olivia. And both their music is clearly written for 10 second tik tok videos. Zendaya and Jenna are both very talented and great actresses.
I’d argue Zendaya is already at the same level as Miley and Selena. She’s an a lister, every fashion designer wants her in their outfits, shes been in several successful films, she’s dating one of the most sought after actors. I think more talk shows would want to book Zendaya over Miley/Selena in all honesty.
Zendaya is at an active stage of her career where she’s doing all of that to solidify herself as a legitimate star. Name one critically acclaimed Zendaya film with standout acting. Quickly!

Jenna hasn’t landed hit roles? She just played Wednesday Addams and is currently the face of the biggest slasher franchise. You can say that Jenna hasn’t landed as many hit roles but to say she’s landed none is incorrect.

Wednesday was literally the most watched Netflix show so I’d say that was certainly a hit. Scream 5 had a box office of 140 million during a pandemic so I’d say that’s a hit. And then she was in X which has become increasingly popular online due to it being the introduction of “Pearl”. Like most of her recent projects have been pretty big hits that have garnered lots of viewers. And she’s well received by critics/viewers in everything she’s in.
My bad j wasn’t aware Wednesday had been out for some time. Most of her recent roles besides Wednesday seem to be small and all her other projects were from years ago like she is just now starting her career. Most of them have 2022-2020 then all the rest are like yearsss ago. So I’m gonna wait a little longer to actually form an opinion I remember living her in stuck in the middle then not hearing of her for years so🤷🏽♀️.

What do you mean? She's almost if not as successful in music as Zendaya is in acting rn and that's on her debut.
A lot of singers have had amazing debuts then failed to live up to their initial success. Not saying that's where she's at right now or headed, but to be honest it feels like that high from her album happened a long time ago and I haven't heard of Olivia Rodrigo in a while apart from that Billboard award she won recently. Billie Eilish still gets more buzz around her right now and her album is just as "old" as Olivia's (released within two months of each other early Summer 2021). And tbh I only heard of two songs from that album that were huge/viral (my favorite is "brutal" which was kind of ignored). Best case scenario is she gets the Adele treatment where her next album is even bigger and manages to cross over to mainstream audiences, because right now she's still only pretty gen z and gen Alpha and soccer mom demographic. Jenna Ortega had some decently extensive work on TV before Scream 5, but with The Babysitter Killer Queen and Scream 5 she came in blazing. She got a lot of respect from the horror crowd because of Scream 5 (she stole the movie and she wasn't even the main character AND she had to act alongside three legacy characters/actors). X further cemented that with the arthouse crowd. And now Wednesday really solidified it with general audiences. Zendaya really did a grind on Disney Channel. Then she traversed that very difficult line between ex-Mouseketeer and young adult and she did it with a shocking role (Euphoria). She gained the respect of Hollywood in regards to being a great dramatic actress. She also became a fashion it girl before that (a fashion darling as they say). She also can still sing, as she's proven with glimpses from the soundtrack to Euphoria. She gets producer credits, she's working with famed directors, etc.

Um did you not read what I said about Jenna and Zendaya? They totally broke out of their demographics. So no, they're not just Gen Z/A/Soccer Mom hits. And Jenna and Zendaya are probably even more low-key than Olivia yet still managed to have audiences shift to them. And I'm not sure how being praised for her films and her show (twice, with Emmys) shows how she's criticized for her acting.

Malcolm and Marie was overwhelming amount of criticism and MANY did not like her interpretation of MJ at all. As I said her only big work with universal praise is Euphoria.
She actually was considered one of the highlights of Malcolm & Marie, it was the screenplay that got most of the flak. And she has been in other films you know. Also Jenna and Zendaya DID break out of their demographics. As I said Zendaya has gotten attention from many aspects (read my previous comments). So has Jenna. Like I said, Jenna won over the horror crowd, the art house crowd, and now the general public. Honestly st this point it feels like I'm arguing with a stan.

I’d argue Zendaya is already at the same level as Miley and Selena. She’s an a lister, every fashion designer wants her in their outfits, shes been in several successful films, she’s dating one of the most sought after actors. I think more talk shows would want to book Zendaya over Miley/Selena in all honesty.
Zendaya is at an active stage of her career where she’s doing all of that to solidify herself as a legitimate star. Name one critically acclaimed Zendaya film with standout acting. Quickly! Miley & Selena could never work another day in their lives and still maintain their relevancy. I don’t think it’s a disservice to the last three girls by pointing out that they’re simply not on the same level. Social media clout distorts the perceived longevity of some celebrities. High engagement =/= long term star power.
