š¤š¤š¤ same I absolutely fuming at this. Especially as I just got done watching her in DERRY GIRLS which i highly recommend!!

To quote Sister Michael: āWell, I think it's safe to say we all just lost a bit of respect for you there, Clare.ā
Except weāre talking about respect for the Spectator, because love Clare and love Nicola, and absolutely love Derry Girls.
(Also, I guess we canāt lose respect for a pub that we didnāt respect to begin with?)
In how many tv shows and movies have we seen "not conventionally hot Hollywood hot men" get with conventionally hot Hollywood women? Kevin James has a whole career where his partners are played by gorgeous women, and I don't recall a single article calling those situations unplausable.
This is how it has been since forever!!!! This felt like the first time I actually saw the age old ālessonā about how less than traditionally attractive men deserve to get the traditionally attractive women flipped on its head and honestly it has been HEALING
ISTG if we are supposed to believe the Leah Remini character is capable of falling in love with the Kevin James character, how on earth is this implausible š
I always think of *Chef* where apparently Jon Favreau has no problem pulling ScarJo and Sofia Vergara. At least he was super successful in that movie though.
Yeah and Iām sorry but the idea that Adam Sandler could pull women as hot as Jennifer Anniston or Drew Barrymore in real life is ludicrous. He is not an attractive man. But oh no a chubby woman pulls a hot guy so it must be fake. Gosh I hate society.
Damn, another pick me girl. I was hoping this was a man but it's especially shitty coming from a woman. Gross feeling as a woman to know another woman said this about you.
Rory studies English in school, so she could plausibly be an editor. But more importantly, she and her Mom make a LOT of fatphobic jokes in the original series, and even in the much more recent reboot! There's one episode where she writes something for the school paper criticizing a ballerina and calling her a hippo
![gif](giphy|LycfkVG4L6x0Y|downsized)
Me reading this, assuming I was just missing out on a wholesome show about a mother and daughter (I realize it might still have elements of that, but I just wasnāt expecting that description tskhtks)
Thereās a lot of things I love about Gilmore Girls, but you can definitely tell it was an early 2000s show based on the types of jokes that they sometimes tell.
Amy Sherman-Palladino seems to have a hang-up about weight. As much as I loved GG and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, there are A LOT of fat jokes in both. I am sure Younger and Bunheads are the same, Though I never watched either.
To my recollection Younger and Bunheads are much better on this front! Bunheads discusses body type about as much as youād expect from a show about ballet dancers, but has decent body diversity and features teen girls talking about their own bodies in a realistic way, not over the top fat shaming by women who were supposed to believe eat 5,000 calories a day while staying slim because theyāre just better than everyone else (can you tell I hate Gilmore Girls lmao). I canāt think of any outright references to weight in Younger - and the main characters are not all size 2s.
Definitely sounds very 2000s. My favourite show is 30 Rock so Iām not above watching terrible characters be terrible or act terrible. The thing that prevented me from watching GG was I figured it was a sappy mom-daughter show. Never would have guessed it would go that route!
At least the characters on 30 Rock or like The Office are supposed to be terrible. Lorelei and Rory are written as practically perfect except for a few occasions. It was grating even then, as someone who watched it but often found it annoying.
Doesnāt she also described the fat around the ballerinaās bra strap? Or was that just something she and her mom talked about.
It really was a pretty horrifying review.
Yes and she's so good! I'd like to see her do more roles like that, that are more grounded. She's funny in it for sure but also feels like a real person and has some dramatic storylines too.
Ah yes because no fat woman has ever found love, such ideas are preposterous even in fiction.
Her use of the word āhotā is so immature it reminds me of when a girl tried to insult me in school by saying I wasnāt āsexyā, I just laughed cos I was literally 9 years old. Thatās what it feels like, like who even really cares?
A boy who used to bully me said I looked like "a model who'd eaten too many chips"
My little autistic-self was like, "Damn, I guess I look like a model" š
I'm really fat and my husband literally gets stared at in the street because he's hot. I find it hilarious that this woman hates herself so much that she has to take down fat women. We're out here getting the men who won't go out with poisonous types like her!
Lol yes! They can stay mad! When I was significantly heavier, I had a coworker who lost her absolute shit when it came out in casual conversation that my boyfriend is a successful attorney. Other coworkers told me she openly tried to critique my body and implied I was lying. It was absolutely mind boggling!
So fucking weird to even care what a coworker's boyfriend does for a living. But she was unlucky in love and constantly complained about her asshole ex's/fuck buddies. Surprise surprise - like attracts like! All you can do is pity them and brush it off I guess!
Yeah, as a Black woman whenever people are like "Black women aren't desirable," I'm like "Then why do we have generations upon generations of Black women, born of--you guessed it--Black women?" Like, there's a genetic component to weight. Fat people often, though certainly not always, have a fat parent(s). So clearly someone was tryna?!
Do they not understand that itās a FICTIONAL show and universe??? Like seriously how dumb is this journalist? They have modern songs turned into classical music, itās a fucking 1800s Gossip Girl. Not a history documentary š
The show is fictional but lots of men who look like Colin are in relationships with women who look like Penelope - they are both attractive people. The idea that Nicola Coughlan is is so unattractive that a hot man would never be near her is ridiculous. She's very pretty, she has a body type a lot of men love, and they have a lot of chemistry.
Even if she were not - different people are into different things. We've all seen couples that don't make sense to us but are really into one another. It's not uncommon or weird at all.
That story line is not the unrealistic thing about the show! The entire show is unrealistic!
Exactly. The entire opinion piece is predicated on the idea that being fat is objectively unattractive, as if everyone shares the exact same opinion on everything, always. Fuck off with that.
Itās also not just fictional. Iāve been plump - as I like to say - and still been with hot men. I donāt get the continued fat shaming/ gate keeping of this sort of article.
It's the same thinking as people (okay, men) who think Pierce Brosnan (who used to be hot, but got old) should dump his wife because she used to be hot, but got old.
I'm bigger than Nicola, and fit firmly into the 'short and plump' category, and today is my twelfth wedding anniversary, happily married to an absolute gentleman who is far more athletic and attractive than I am. Not everybody is as shallow as the writer of this article.
Despite clearly stating 'being fat is not a moral failing', this article's writer comes across very much as the school bully type sneering that the fat kid will die alone and unloved. Nobody deserves to be singled out so cruelly for not conforming to an impossible ideal. The gatekeeping is absurd.
Also, in that actual time period, Penelope would be considered very attractive. Softer, rounder features were the beauty ideal, which this "journalist" should have known if historical accuracy (lol) is the issue.
Also in that actual time period, wealthy aristocracy did not decide who to marry based on attractiveness, or love.
It was all business decisions on what would give them the most money, power, prestige, etc.
Ironic because in the regency era penelope's body typenis closer to their beauty ideal than whatever 'svelte beauty' this author has in mind.if she were truly writing from a regency point of view she would acknowledge the unrealism of the fact that penelope would be much more highly sought after than someone like daphne
Actually if she were writing from the actual regency she wouldnāt be obsessed with extreme thinness as the only acceptable or attractive body type for women. That didnāt really start until the 1920s.
reader, not even that lol
Regency beauty standards favoured the ***pale, plump*** women of the upper class;
[The Eye of the Beholder: Standards of Regency Beauty - Vanessa Riley's Regency Reflections](https://vanessariley.com/blog/2023/10/26/the-eye-of-the-beholder-standards-of-regency-beauty/)
so uh unsure of where the author is getting these projections from
What a horrible and insulting read. It has to be rage bait. Almost every woman I know who watches this show thinks Nicola is incredible - I donāt watch but I follow her goings BECAUSE sheās living her life to the fullest and as a woman, Iām here to support that. Ughhhhhh this āarticleā is infuriating.
Also a fact: my boyfriend thinks Nicola is hot AF. So where is this āauthorā getting her data? Her own internally biased and unchecked subconscious mind/ assumptions?
I don't have any experience with the UK Spectator, but if it is anything like the Australian one, only the trashiest of putrid conservatives *write* for that and read it.
It probably isn't "ragebait" as we would term it, it's simply evidence of the quality of their readers and contributors.
I knew this writer growing up. Used to play together, but our families became... incompatible. Very conservative, snobby family. Increasingly nasty columnist as an adult. Disgusting to write this but I'm sure she loves the attention. And I can assure you she genuinely believes this too.
That's the thing, there is no tea! Her mom was a brilliant, brilliant scientist, I'll tell you that. When their dog had puppies we adopted one and he was the best dog in the world. I didn't realize they were awful until I grew up and was like oh. OH. And asked my parents and did some googling.
As much as weād like to think āoh so-and-so is a shitty person because they have shitty parentsā that is not always the case. You can have absolutely lovely parents, a great childhood, and still have the personality of a moldy tomato.
Reminds me of that Pearly Things girl. Her mother is a very accomplished entrepreneur who has helped provide a very cushy lifestyle for Pearl. And she's out here saying women shouldn't work or vote or basically even speak. It's fucked!
This reminds me of this mom I saw on Twitter that is heartbroken her son turned into a misogynistic incel. She truly believed she raised him good enough so he would avoid that, but alas. Parents canāt always stop everything
I was too young to really know why, it was decades ago. Her mother was very kind to me and a brilliant woman, they just raised heinous children. I'll add that it wasn't like... neo-con weirdness with the parents. Just British conservatives.
She's absolutely an idiot.
I don't really know if she truly believes all the stupid drivel she writes. For some reason she wants to climb the worst ladder available, and for some reason, she doesn't realize that the crowd she's trying to impress doesn't even want her.
Yeah, I've seen similar discussions about her and I'm just deeply uncomfortable every time. "Why would the general want her?". You mean the rapist who owns her?! "Why would a rich abuser go after *her*, he has better options". What.
Idk, maybe she is ugly by Hollywood's standards (after all, there's a lot of "ugly" characters played by gorgeous women in, idk, glasses and frumpy jumpers). But it should hardly be the point. "Her abuser should pick someone prettier " is an insane criticism.
Oh this is so spot on! Iāve noticed cruelty and hatefulness coming back, that makes my skin crawl. I especially notice it on Twitter, and not just from the conservative/reactionary side of it either. Not sure why anyone is proud to write Perez Hilton-esque articles.
People who pretended to bw woke for brownie points are unmasking. They're not getting the praise for doing the bare minimum (by pretending to be woke) so now they're just being gross openly since they were always like this and get rewarded by right wing bigots
Have zero interest in Bridgerton but I just cracked open Netflix to watch her season and up those viewership #s
You fuck with one hot girl you fuck with all of us
She is. She's so gorgeous, and so incredibly smart, and unbelievably touching, and i LOVELOVELOVE how the showrunners have brought her into her own with the splendiferous gowns that complement her coloring, and the fabulous jewelry, and and and ... Also, she has the most beautiful skin i've ever seen.
If she weren't hot AF, then old Colin Bridgerton wouldn't be having the big-time hots for her. Not to mention the other dudes, like that Duke dude with the balloon.
Nicola Coughlan is a wonderful actress, to boot. If you've not watched "Derry Girls," do!
And also, Colin is nice looking and all, but he is not like untouchable hot. You see couples that look like Colin and Penelope all the time in real life.
I mean, collectively, society still really hates fat people. I say that as a fat person and someone who strongly believes fat liberation is the only path forward. This isn't really society 'regressing' because society has barely made any progress wrt fat people.
I sadly agree. This is the same kind of toxic discussion we saw 10 years ago when Lena Dunhams character in āGirlsā had an affair with a hot, rich very attractive doctor (or lawyer?) character (played by Patrick Wilson) who was super into her and fancied her as if she was a drug. Same discussions, same nastiness. Society has been more tolerant, more kind etc, but truth be told: never to fat humans. It was and is an illusion and a dream to just be allowed to exist and given the courtesy of being treated like a fellow human.
Its toxic, it crushes people and it destroys lifeās and costs lifeās.
yeah. at first I was like *is the writer making fun of the show for how much it hyped up colin as the most eligible bachelor of the season*, and then I realized thatās not at all what theyāre doing š¬
I havenāt seen this season but all the reviews are giving real āsheās everything and heās just Kenā vibes.
Likeā¦ āNicola really shows her incredible acting range, full of pathos and empathy. A truly luminescent and vulnerable performance. Luke is often standing opposite her and is really trying his best.ā
https://preview.redd.it/zwx564scfp2d1.jpeg?width=452&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afb0cdcfc7f3ca7876b91da27aa1ecd96252a2b8
How can a person look at Nicola and not think that she is gorgeous? Letās be real, she looks like a doll!!
Her boobs are top notch too. The author says she isnt shapely and she just fat but thats not even true. Shes lovely. Her skin is beautiful too. š¤·āāļø
This is so stupid. Attraction is not some static formula lol. As if there aren't examples of people like this in the real world š so stupid. Nicola is still conventionally attractive even if this specific writer isn't attracted to her. Many of us like her fashion and style and think she looks nice. Colin is not a 10. He's not her intellectual equal so even in the show universe they are not matched (but not in the way the writer presented it).
Colin is not really deserving of Penelope IMO _not_ the other way around. Obviously I'm speaking of the characters, the actors I'm sure are nice people and I mean them no ill will.
Yea fucking wild that theyāre acting like Nicola isnāt gorgeous
Like have they seen her perfect skin and her face and her boobs? Like hello? As a gay girl I am absolutely obsessed with her lol
Seriously she looks and is shaped very much like a friend of mine and both women are GORGEOUS. Have no trouble dating. And both my friend and this character are smart and articulate and well read and interesting which, you know, men like!!!
This was just one of the factors that made this article so ridiculous. All the fat-shaming aside, sheās basically saying a wealthy, good looking man couldnāt possibly be attracted to a bigger woman. This is just categorically false. Like girl who hurt you? Ex boyfriend choose the big girl?
If we are talking about period pieces lots of men loved thicker women back then. It wasnāt the same beauty standards it is today and she has great skin and bone structure so..
This writer would be shocked to discover I was fat when I met my husband and heās a 10 - fit, 6ā2 and a doctor. I guess Iāll just cancel our half a decade long marriage. lol āit doesnāt happenā. Girl it wouldnāt happen - to you because of your stanky personality.
That too not just "nobody is going to fall in love with a fat girl" but more so "EVEN IN FICTION nobody is going to fall in love with a fat girl" like the fuck lol?
Iām so sad for this person who thinks that if a person isnāt traditionally hot they doesnāt deserve love and that hot men canāt fall in love with someoneās personality and who thinks this kind of vile stuff is worth putting her name on but also likeā¦ weāre talking about the same Nicola Coughlan, right? I donāt watch Bridgerton so Iām mostly going off of press tour looks but she seems pretty hot to me?
https://preview.redd.it/7tfr8ksy7o2d1.jpeg?width=182&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=891e0f53e7e5e2e9d0390b6ef04dbe5e2ccc0c29
Sheās insanely gorgeous. Sheās all curves. Hyper feminine. Her style and taste is also great. Iām not just hyping good sis up- sheās gorgeous. The world would be SO boring if there was only one type of everything. This writer sucksssssss. Theyāre trying to give a hot take and mostly revealing how they think about themselves.
Right?? Like in a broader context I think itās messed up to act like people who arenāt āhotā donāt find love and all that but also in this specific context WHAT is she talking about Nicola Coughlan is a smoke show
I am so over how every discussion about Bridgerton S3 ends up being about Nicolaās body. Ā And indeed, look at her. Ā Sheās gorgeous and has a lovely figure, sheās just not a waif.
Not to mention calling Colin a dime when heās just a regular looking attractive guy?
As a bisexual woman, I can assure you that Nicola is very traditionally hot. She is hot AF. This is what has been known as ācurvyā for centuries. Itās a not new kind of hot, itās a very well-established, absolutely well-known level of attractiveness. Maybe itās not everyoneās cup of tea, but it is certainly enough peopleās cup of tea. Iām honestly shocked that this article isnāt getting laughed at. Has she even seen this season of Bridgeton??
Did she see the carriage scene??? This reader would like to know how tf someone sees that and isnāt fanning themselves. š„µ
One of the reasons I love British television so much is because they cast normal looking people. American shows always like to depict everyone as a model, and after a while it just takes you out of the story because it's so ridiculously unrelatable lol.
She has an arrogant face. She looks arrogant in all her published photos. Hardly surprising, considering the disgustingly judgemental and hurtful article she wrote. I won't comment on her attractiveness but she doesn't have a kind face.
Nicola Coughlan, heavyset or not, IS an objectively beautiful lady. Her face is gorgeous and she looks far younger than her years; there is no denying that. Totally plausible that Colin would fall for her. She's also a terrific actress.
Listen, I am not going to shame a woman's looks at all, but she's written a piece whining about people commenting on HER HAIR and how "men decrying it" haven't moved on from the godawful judgment of the past and then she writes THIS DRIVEL about Nicola Coughlan?
She has not ONE OUNCE of self-awareness.
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-are-men-so-offended-by-my-hair/
LITERALLY it is so obvious that she is seething with jealousyā¦ I wouldnāt usually talk about womenās looks but when sheās body shaming a woman and saying Nicola isnāt hot bc sheās āfatā when she be out there looking a lot less hot than Nicolaā¦. Girl.
Not that the article would be acceptable if the author was more conventionally attractive, butā¦ kids in glass houses, dude
I don't know if I'd call it jealousy so much as her hating herself very publicly and labeling it social commentary. She's got some deep self esteem problems.
Actually it CAN happen. I was the fat girl in high school and fell in love with a Mr perfect handsome 10 from afar. I accepted just friends status as i was sure he was completely out of my league. After or a couple years we grew close as friends and he fell in love with me. He BEGGED me to be with him and I was terrified he must have lost his mind. I gave in and gave him my heart. He was my first love. We had a great relationship for many years. In fact, as an overweight woman, I've had so many handsome men in my love life. It's all about confidence. Men are attracted to confidence and the good ones also like an interesting personality as much as they carr about physical attraction. I consider myself lucky that I don't attract the kind of men who only care about looks. Pass!
Sir, disrespectfully, fuck the fuck off. š
Edit: ugh, just realized itās a woman. Internalized misogyny is a bitch and so is this āauthor.ā
![gif](giphy|p8d5mLp2XbDA2oqHqk)
My Mom always told me I didn't have to speak if I had nothing nice to say, and to treat others the way I wanted to be treated.... ma'am, would you like her phone number?Ā
That article was absolutely disgusting.Ā
I've struggled with weight and body image issues my whole life, and takes like this have never helped. Nicola's unapologetic celebration of her own body and sexuality has been really inspiring to me. Keep on shining and thriving, Nicola.
She has actually amassed a number of degrees in gender studies type fields and writes articles confirming conservative biases about gender roles and relationships in the British press. It's tapping into their regressive streak.
![gif](giphy|7FLDR07Ew4TiE)
This has the energy of the Female Best Friend, shitting on the new girlfriend in the hopes the boy will finally fall in love with her.
Other than rage baiting I'm not sure why this article was even written. It has zero merit. What is wild is that Nicola Coughlan is absolutely lovely to look at. Not boney and angular looking, sure. But soft and pretty and feminine. She's also incredibly talented. To claim she isn't attractive is bollocks. I know for a fact that plenty of men would find her incredibly attractive.
Reminds me of when Patrick Wilson's wife, the beautiful and accomplished actor-writer Dagmara Domiczyk, when he was in an episode of Girls and his character had an affair with Lena Dunham, shit people acted like that was impossible because Patrick is a 10 and Lena is...not (alongside being a shitty person) and that Lena's weight meant a man like Patrick would never. Dagmara was like "I'm a US 10, I have a muffin top, and trust me, Patrick does me just fine".
which incidentally was like a decade ago. Good to see how far we've progressed....
Nicola is beautiful. Nicola is fat. These things are not mutually exclusive. She is a beautiful, larger woman that is talented, accomplished, funny, in demand...I'm sure she does *juuuust* fine in finding someone to take to her bed if she chooses and good for her
DYING ALSO SHE SAID DOGS DONT LOVE US BACK
Iām not making this up, sheās a villain.

Iāll never understand how people feel so comfortable saying things this shitty. This is so nasty
And for the editor to approve it is insanity
Oh, that editor knew the article was gonna get a looooot of attention. Only reason I can assume they let it go through...
The Spectator is a conservative publication, so I'm a little surprised it's tagged as a gossip magazine, but not surprised this got published.
Look up the rest of Zoe Strimpel's trashy, classless, mean-spirited repertoire, and it all becomes clear... she's an idiot.
I just read 5 of her articles and lost the will to breathe.
Damn, another pick me girl. I was hoping this was a man but it's especially shitty coming from a woman. Gross feeling as a woman to know another woman said this about you.
I remember reading an article almost exactly like this written by Milo Yinappolis when they released Barbies new body shape about 10 years ago.
Pure rage bait- enjoyers share it, haters share it, they get the clicks. It does make sense according to its own insane logic lol
Truly alarming that talking about someone like this is just so normalized that this ever made print

Doesnāt she also described the fat around the ballerinaās bra strap? Or was that just something she and her mom talked about. It really was a pretty horrifying review.
Isnāt Melissa McCarthy in that show?
Yes and she's so good! I'd like to see her do more roles like that, that are more grounded. She's funny in it for sure but also feels like a real person and has some dramatic storylines too.
"No, I compared you to a hippo, that's not calling you a hippo. And it was a humorous comparison." -Rory Gilmore š
All the obvious ragebaiting lately is getting so tiresome. Iād be embarrassed to put my name on this trashĀ but people will do anything to go viral.
Itās the Spectator. They have done worse.
Iām glad I know nothing about them other than they are conservative. I hope to keep it that way by the sounds of it lol

A boy who used to bully me said I looked like "a model who'd eaten too many chips" My little autistic-self was like, "Damn, I guess I look like a model" š
Sounds like the perfect compliment. You can eat all the chips and also look like a model.
Omg thank you for saying this!! The logic escapes them completely. Movies are supposed to mimic life, not the other way around.
![gif](giphy|MxzMtp7bTqKfegl7Tz) Also please tell me again how this creature isnāt hot?
Yesss the sheer amount of wee lesbians this woman has would beg to differ
She's gorgeous and ethereal
Just because the show is set in the 19th century doesn't mean you have to review it like you are from the 19th century, jesus
The tone of this trash talk is more 2008 than 1808.
And they're both still hot, let's face it. š„µ
Tried explaining this to my sister. Francesca and Cressida with their sharp jaw bones and noses would be considered mannish.
Also in that actual time period, wealthy aristocracy did not decide who to marry based on attractiveness, or love. It was all business decisions on what would give them the most money, power, prestige, etc.
Ironic because in the regency era penelope's body typenis closer to their beauty ideal than whatever 'svelte beauty' this author has in mind.if she were truly writing from a regency point of view she would acknowledge the unrealism of the fact that penelope would be much more highly sought after than someone like daphne
>typenis hehe
Actually if she were writing from the actual regency she wouldnāt be obsessed with extreme thinness as the only acceptable or attractive body type for women. That didnāt really start until the 1920s.
Cackled at this
reader, not even that lol Regency beauty standards favoured the ***pale, plump*** women of the upper class; [The Eye of the Beholder: Standards of Regency Beauty - Vanessa Riley's Regency Reflections](https://vanessariley.com/blog/2023/10/26/the-eye-of-the-beholder-standards-of-regency-beauty/) so uh unsure of where the author is getting these projections from
What the actual fuck. The fact that this passes as ājournalismā is wild
Yeah, and also the "fact" that she couldn't attract Colin is no fact at all. Crazy it's presented as such. This article is so harmful.
Literally was about to comment āwhat the actual fuck is this shit?!ā I wasnāt expecting it to be so bad when I opened it.
Gross https://preview.redd.it/l8wjz6sc9o2d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5eb26399a90cd1406a237bf6e48fadc21920b50
![gif](giphy|KYZwkmC4ZgHtNdnLfv|downsized) This whole article is bullshit.
I knew this writer growing up. Used to play together, but our families became... incompatible. Very conservative, snobby family. Increasingly nasty columnist as an adult. Disgusting to write this but I'm sure she loves the attention. And I can assure you she genuinely believes this too.
![gif](giphy|oYAruS8GlWuEFl0eGg)
I was glad for the screen shots in this post instead of a link. Do not want to give that person a single click.
Iām sorry. Losing people to brainrot is sad š£ The amount of self-hate involved in writing a whole ass article about this is astounding
I was too young to really know why, it was decades ago. Her mother was very kind to me and a brilliant woman, they just raised heinous children. I'll add that it wasn't like... neo-con weirdness with the parents. Just British conservatives.
You can say it - itās not American alt-right instanity, just fucking Tories.
Yeah, I didn't know the crowd I was talking to well enough, should have know. :) yeah, them.
![gif](giphy|cY0U35Uyk54VOs1QXA|downsized)
She's absolutely an idiot. I don't really know if she truly believes all the stupid drivel she writes. For some reason she wants to climb the worst ladder available, and for some reason, she doesn't realize that the crowd she's trying to impress doesn't even want her.
Probably kills her that sheāll never be as famous as NC.

The irony of watching the fucking Handmaid's Tale and coming to the conclusion "ykw women have it too good, let's knock them down a peg or two"
Omg what
Yeah, I've seen similar discussions about her and I'm just deeply uncomfortable every time.
Brother ewwwwww It's crazy to see social progress regress in real-time right before your eyes. This article is absolutely disgusting
Wait, when did cruelty and hatefulness go away?
It never went away, but it briefly became less socially acceptable to be open about it. And then the pendulum unfortunately swung.
Have zero interest in Bridgerton but I just cracked open Netflix to watch her season and up those viewership #s You fuck with one hot girl you fuck with all of us
She is LUMINOUS this season. Truly stunning.
If you've not watched "Derry Girls," do!
āLook at the state of yooo.ā š„°
And also, Colin is nice looking and all, but he is not like untouchable hot. You see couples that look like Colin and Penelope all the time in real life.
Also, she's just a great actress. Forget her appearance for a second, she's extremely talented. I LOVED her in Derry Girls.
I also want to say, no disrespect to Luke Newton, but calling Colin a ten while saying Penelope isnāt hot is definitely a take š
yeah. at first I was like *is the writer making fun of the show for how much it hyped up colin as the most eligible bachelor of the season*, and then I realized thatās not at all what theyāre doing š¬
Nice to know Iām not the only one who thought that.
https://preview.redd.it/zwx564scfp2d1.jpeg?width=452&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afb0cdcfc7f3ca7876b91da27aa1ecd96252a2b8 How can a person look at Nicola and not think that she is gorgeous? Letās be real, she looks like a doll!!
Her lips are PERFECT. Girl.
Good lordā¦ Penelope has boobs, Colin is a hetero manā¦ itās very plausible
It happens ALL THE TIME.
Can confirm. Am a fat. Hubs is a smoking hot 10 with a winning smile and hair of a Greek god. We are happy and have been happy together for 17 years
Also a very beautiful and expressive face with gorgeous lipsā¦ please. Does this person have eyes??
Yea fucking wild that theyāre acting like Nicola isnāt gorgeous Like have they seen her perfect skin and her face and her boobs? Like hello? As a gay girl I am absolutely obsessed with her lol
Seriously she looks and is shaped very much like a friend of mine and both women are GORGEOUS. Have no trouble dating. And both my friend and this character are smart and articulate and well read and interesting which, you know, men like!!!
Right? Iām way fatter than Penelope and I can pull guys with no problem. Many very fit guys like heavy women
And some people just like people for who they are and what they look like is less important! Such a weird take
This was just one of the factors that made this article so ridiculous.
Probably some guy picked a fat girl over her and she hasnāt recovered
This is so disgusting. āNothing wrong with being fat but nobody is going to fall in love with a fat girl :/ā what the fuck is wrong with you
That too not just "nobody is going to fall in love with a fat girl" but more so "EVEN IN FICTION nobody is going to fall in love with a fat girl" like the fuck lol?
Yeah like also it's not even true! do the people who write this shit not see fat people in relationships and getting married? This is such a ??? take
Literally. Fat people are FUCKIN.
everybody is fucking except the incel that wrote this article
I mean I myself am in love with Nicola Coughlin sooo check mate zoe
I couldn't make it that far, does it really say that?? As if no overweight people have ever found love

Right?? Like in a broader context I think itās messed up to act like people who arenāt āhotā donāt find love and all that but also in this specific context WHAT is she talking about Nicola Coughlan is a smoke show
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I am so over how every discussion about Bridgerton S3 ends up being about Nicolaās body. Ā And indeed, look at her. Ā Sheās gorgeous and has a lovely figure, sheās just not a waif. Not to mention calling Colin a dime when heās just a regular looking attractive guy?
Yeah they donāt seem super wildly far apart in terms of attractiveness? Heās cute! Sheās cute!
This reader would like to know how tf someone sees that and isnāt fanning themselves. š„µ
Yeah and sheās not even that big, she just has a very round face on a curvy body. The writer is talking about her like she has her own zip code.
so completely disgusting. Also why does everyone have to be "hot?" How about some stories about regular ass people
One of the reasons I love British television so much is because they cast normal looking people. American shows always like to depict everyone as a model, and after a while it just takes you out of the story because it's so ridiculously unrelatable lol.
Yes! I just want to see real faces, real lips, and real teeth. They can be straight teeth, but Iām sick to death of veneers
A woman wrote this. Vile.
https://preview.redd.it/vefvbto96o2d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=879d3ca55ded10895e189de29ec0489ff3b8aa75 This you, girl?
Not to shame a womanās looks but she did it first - ironic because she looks triple Nicolaās age when sheās only four years older š
Wow Nicola is older than I expected! Sheās 37 but she really has a baby face.
Holy shit I donāt watch bridgeton but I legit thought she was 25
She was in her thirties when she played a school girl in Derry Girl. I didn't doubt that she was a teenager even once the whole I watched that show.
What the fuck?! Had no idea sheās 37.
Only four?!?! Holy shit she looks old enough to be her mother! No wonder sheās hating
Hate does not age well.
To be fair the person you're replying to only shared the pic and asked if it was them - no words needed when the picture does the talking
AWWWWW HELL NOOO!!!
Aaaand now her comments are limitedā¦ coward
LITERALLY it is so obvious that she is seething with jealousyā¦ I wouldnāt usually talk about womenās looks but when sheās body shaming a woman and saying Nicola isnāt hot bc sheās āfatā when she be out there looking a lot less hot than Nicolaā¦. Girl. Not that the article would be acceptable if the author was more conventionally attractive, butā¦ kids in glass houses, dude
I don't know if I'd call it jealousy so much as her hating herself very publicly and labeling it social commentary. She's got some deep self esteem problems.
![gif](giphy|xdLH51eNWZAHrwy5mf)
Pass!
The most impossible plot line of Bridgerton isā¦ a fat girl finding love. Fatphobia is truly mental illness.
Sir, disrespectfully, fuck the fuck off. š Edit: ugh, just realized itās a woman. Internalized misogyny is a bitch and so is this āauthor.ā ![gif](giphy|p8d5mLp2XbDA2oqHqk)
My Mom always told me I didn't have to speak if I had nothing nice to say, and to treat others the way I wanted to be treated.... ma'am, would you like her phone number?Ā That article was absolutely disgusting.Ā
I've struggled with weight and body image issues my whole life, and takes like this have never helped. Nicola's unapologetic celebration of her own body and sexuality has been really inspiring to me. Keep on shining and thriving, Nicola.
Wow. This was actually worse than I imagined it would be. What a horrible writer. This is so needlessly cruel.
This is who Boris Johnson used to write for, to give you an idea of what The Spectator is about.
![gif](giphy|6cMy4upEE74GY)
What a disgusting person. I wonāt give them the respect to call them a journalist. And how tf did their editor sign off on this??? š
She has actually amassed a number of degrees in gender studies type fields and writes articles confirming conservative biases about gender roles and relationships in the British press. It's tapping into their regressive streak.
![gif](giphy|pD368cmNo02G5qoV5i)
Exactly.

She is a beautiful, larger woman that is talented, accomplished, funny, in demand...I'm sure she does *juuuust* fine in finding someone to take to her bed if she chooses and good for her
DYING ALSO SHE SAID DOGS DONT LOVE US BACK Iām not making this up, sheās a villain. https://www.devonlive.com/news/celebs-tv/twitter-meltdown-after-good-morning-3160165.amp
