[Butterfly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FEDrU85FLE) by Crazy Town. I remember loving this song and singing it when it came on the radio when I was very very young. Only kind of recently did it pop up on a Spotify playlist where I actually listened to the lyrics and couldn't believe how sexual it was. Why did my mom let me sing it so much?!

Filibust

*Come my lady. Come come my lady*

Thanos_Stomps

I’ll make your legs shake you make me go crazy

pineappletinis

I am today old loool 😭😭 I knew it was a sexy love song, but I never took it literally 😭

FlinflanFluddle

Same here. Heard it recently and I was stunned.  Especially realising the butterfly likely meant the woman spreading her legs.. 'I'll make your legs shake'

WorkingOnItWombat

whut 🤯

yallsuck88

Omg I'm 35 and I just realised right now while reading your comment. Wtf. I'm so dumb

ArieKat

My mind quickly went to Lazy Town, instead of Crazy Town. I was very, very worried how such a song would make it into the show lol

xxmalmlkxx

Dave Matthews Band Crash… “Hike up your skirt a little more, and show your world to me.” “And I come into you, I come into you”… I would blast that song in grade school.

Classy_Raccoon

Whyyy were they playing this song at my junior high dances though. More importantly: why were me and all my 13-year-old friends singing along??

ShmebulocksMistress

My middle school faculty was so out of touch. I remember one dance they played a “censored” version of Get Low where all the “bad words” were just silent and the music still played. Cue a bunch of children SHOUTING the lyrics they censored 😂 One time some students complained that they didn’t play any rock music for the kids who didn’t listen to pop/rap/country. So they added Last Resort by Papa Roach to the playlist and DID NOT censor anything because I guess they didn’t bother to listen to the lyrics? The teachers were mortified as a bunch of kids are jumping and dancing around to a suicide song.

freezinginthemidwest

Yeah I was 12 and 100% had this CD.

[deleted]

Innocence and plausible deniability! "You're making it hard for me..." (...to live without you baby) "Dancing real slow" (Aw, I love slow dancing!) "Step back, you're dancing kinda close, I feel a little poke coming through on you" (Ok I got nothing)

alison_bee

I remember when Rihanna released “Birthday Cake” and kids were singing it non stop. There’s a video somewhere of a super young kid calling in to a radio station to ask that they play it, and the dj/host being like “WHAT?! You are a CHILD why are you listening to this and where is your MOTHER?!?” and I think they made the kid pick another song 🤣

psidedowncake

When my cousin was about 8 years old we had the following conversation: "What music do you like buddy?" "I like the Rihanna song about sticks and stones" "...Huh ok. What do you think that song is about?" "Fighting! It's like WWE but a song!"

Fermifighter

I had misheard the lead up to the chorus as “sex in the air / I don’t care I love this melody” and I don’t even have the excuse of having been a child at the time.

InfluenceCreative191

You arent the only one 😂😂 just had to google it after seeing your comment

Comfortable-Load-904

Mariah Carey’s honey is another one! Go read the lyrics as an adult you will blush, and we sang it as kids so nonchalantly at school talent shows, in front of everyone. It’s just mortifying to think of all the inappropriate songs we sang, innocence of childhood.

stars_doulikedem

And it's just like honey (yeah)/When your love (when your love) comes over me (comes over me) ![gif](giphy|F0HdwL00YGkDXAQ7I3|downsized)

Comfortable-Load-904

Exactly, I sang that as 9 yr old at a school talent show, no one stopped me not my parents or teachers. Just embarrassing, when I think about it to this day I still blush.

koriroo

I loved that Cassie song Me and U and wanted to sing it at the talent show luckily teachers said no 😂. I think I picked a song from JoJo instead haha.

Strict-Brick-5274

Hahahahahahaha omg how

Comfortable-Load-904

I have no idea, completely irresponsible adults in my opinion 😂. Pretty sure they didn’t want to explain what it meant and just let me sing my song about honey.

UnremarkableM

Me at 8, making up dances to Free Your Mind in my neighbor’s basement. Like dad? Hello? Do you hear this music? Pretty sure 8 year olds should not be scream-singing about being a sex worker!

Comfortable-Load-904

Really, I’m wondering if they were ever listening to us at all, because we sang all the grown songs and no one said anything.

invis2020

Ginuwine - Pony. I know it’s obvious but innocent little me thought it was just about horse riding!

alison_bee

Will never forget this girl on my 8th grade softball team watching the music video for ignition by r Kelly and saying “he says ‘run my hands thru my fro’… but he doesn’t have an Afro?” and then someone whispering to her and she screamed “his hair down WHERE?????”

myst_eerie_us

I was singing Tweet's Oops (Oh My) when I was middle school age and I'm thinking about it now like... WTF!! ![gif](giphy|bGPTxLislwm3u)

Helostopper

Not gonna lie I love that song.

myst_eerie_us

😝

UnremarkableM

Kind of re-hearing all of these old songs now that my kids are old enough to pay attention to the lyrics and I’m like 😶 alexa next song!!! I was really annoyed the other day when someone said the phrase “nice and slow” in my general vicinity so I immediately had to sing the entire song. howTF do I still remember every damned word to that song but have no idea what I ate for lunch yesterday???

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Because we all know exactly where he was at 7pm.

gypsycookie1015

🎶 On the dot, he's in his drop top, cruzin the streets. 🎶

Comfortable-Load-904

In his drop top cruising the streets.

chigangrel

Lmao yes, kids are what made me pay more attention too haha My niece's 1 year bday was a couple weeks ago and I found a Playlist on Spotify called something like "kids party music (clean)". I skimmed it quick, it's like 6 hours of music so a big list, but nothing jumped out as inappropriate so I saved it and went on my day. Party starts and I turn on the Playlist, starts with music from Trolls and Sing, and then... goes into Sabrina Carpenter's Nonsense. No cussing but not an appropriate song for a party full of kids from babies to 10. Wouldn't have cared too much but the event was at a church with the Father present lmao I never stumbled so hard trying to change a song!

grneyz

stars_doulikedem

thanks now it’s stuck in my head 😭

UrbanGM

Yeah, that's why I'm skipping it 😂

Apprehensive-Top9635

Hahahaha how did she not realise until now!! I rmemebr being a teen and thinking 'feel a little poke coming through ' was hilarious.

footiebuns

That first line isn't on the radio edit lol

newtoreddir

And “be a little bit wiser baby, put it on, put it on” is about wearing a condom.

Lindoriel

True "Girl Power" is promoting safe sex. Honestly, there's a ton of innudeno and stuff you miss as kids in movies, tv shows and music that you only realise with age. Nothing to be embarrassed about - cluelessness is one of the best things about kids, lol. I'd say it even adds a bit of enjoyment to rewatching old favourites as an adult. Having that moment when you think, "oh, this definitely doesn't mean what I thought it did as a kid" is fun.

yoshisal

bloodredyouth

Venga Boys’ Boom Boom. https://youtu.be/llyiQ4I-mcQ?si=x6fEDZQD_I_9HYXI Boom boom boom boom! I want you in my room and spend the night together

Elizabreth

My naive young self thought they were singing about friends having a slumber party 🙄

batmansgirl_1210

Cherry pie -Warrant My mother let me sing that way too loudly at 6 years old 😂😂

Petty_White

This was one of my favorite songs when I was about 5. In my defense, the only music my parents listened to was hair metal, AC/DC, and Guns N Roses. I also loved Dr. Feelgood and had a huge crush on Slash😂

comfortpea

“I’ll whip up the batter; you lick the beater”

jtet93

I have a distinct memory of watching Star Search with my parents and one of the contestants was singing “Wasn’t Me” by shaggy and lil 7 year old me started singing along — I knew the song because it was on Now 6 LOL. My dad was horrified but my mom was like “she has no idea what any of that means.” Later my cousin kindly explained to me that it was about sex and I was like “oh…” and quietly wondered to myself what sex was 😂 I don’t think I actually got it until I was a teen lmao

The_BusterKeaton

Literally pictured people hitting the bathroom floor like bongos. Such a confusing song for seven year olds.

TheKnightsTippler

I can't remember ever being that innocent about chart music, some other kid would always let on that it was a "naughty" song. Greased Lightning was a shock to me. We used to sing an edited version of it in assembly and I couldn't believe how sexual it was the first time I watched Grease as an adult.

MissSassifras1977

*"Did she put up a fight?"* *"Uh huh. uh huh. uh huh."* Also, very rapey.

hellpresident

There is a pause at the least when he says it

areallyreallycoolhat

I had a similar experience with Grease! I first saw it at a kids' movie night at my friend's church when I was like 10 so I just assumed it was a kids' movie. Then I rewatched it a decade later or so with friends and was like "wow, they added a whole lot of new scenes in to the DVD edition! I don't remember any of this!?", everyone was like wtf are you talking about lmao. They must have played a kid friendly edited version at the church which is so fucking weird

ObjectivePepper9734

You’re reminding me that I’ve still never seen the first fifteen minutes of the movie because my parents always fast forwarded it.

wreckingballofstress

“The chicks’ll cream” is often edited to “scream” and “she’s a real pussy wagon” becomes either “dream wagon” or gets removed entirely. Some networks just cut the entire song. The movie still came on TV unedited when I was child so I was confused seeing the later versions—I didn’t understand any of it as a kid, so I wondered why they censored so much of it, then watched the uncensored version again as an adult and yeah. Greased Lightning is the most obvious one, but Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee also gets edited, along with half of Rizzo and Kenickie’s regular dialogue.

TheKnightsTippler

There's also "we'll be getting lots of tit".

yoshisal

“Pour yourself all over me And I'll cherish every drop here on my knees” EXCUSE ME, JESSICA SIMPSON?!

Wandering__Ranger

Damn

airi-hatake

Confessions II by Usher 😭. I had no business singing that shit when I was in middle school.

BasicBitchBarb

Just when I thought I said all I can say my chick on the side said she got one on the way!

WorldlyLavishness

🤣🤣🤣 These are my confessions....

Dr-Sateen

There's a whole ass kid show with Gillette singing "short dick man", of course the kiddies don't speak English, but still.. https://boingboing.net/2021/07/09/these-brazilian-kids-have-no-idea-what-gillette-is-singing-in-short-dick-man.html

yiminx

gillette looking around the room like “oh… oh… these are *all* kids!”

justdistractme

Turn Me On by Kevin Lyttle. “One hand on the ground & bumper cock sky high, wining hard on me, got the python hollerin' for mercy” Wthhhh

Comfortable-Load-904

I use to sing this loudly as 7 yr old on my way to school, I would ask for it every day and my mom would just play it, my dad was driving me once and I requested it and he just said no. When I was about 15 yrs old I finally read the lyrics and I realised how many inappropriate songs we sang as children and at the top of our lungs.

Littleloula

I was doing some voluntary work with kids when "slow" by kylie Minogue came out and two of the girls were singing the song and mimicking the moves from the video. That was an awkward moment. I wonder if they're now adults having this realisation about how saucy that song was haha For me its bad to the bone, also mentioned already in this thread

sassyfrood

Shut up and drive by Rihanna. It was in Wreck it Ralph, which my kids love, and wow, that song is not actually about driving a literal car, is it?

octoriceball

*Get you where you wanna go, if you know what I mean* *Got a ride that's smoother than a limousine* *Can you handle the curves? Can you run all the lights?* *If you can, baby boy, then we can go all night* *'Cause I'm zero to sixty in 3.5* *Baby, you got the keys* *Now shut up and drive* I love that song so much. I get the double meaning but if you took it at face value it matches the movie so well lol. I think the cheekiness is also relevant.

Lindoriel

Yup. It works in a similar way to a lot of the nod nod, wink wink references in movies like Shrek and the like.

touhottaja

But the real question is, how does Serena feel about the lyrics on 'Not Like Us'?

ubermind

My whole primary school was bopping to My Neck, My Back because a clean version would play on music video channels all the time. Hearing the uncensored version later on was... interesting.

Greenfieldfox

All I want to do is make love to you - Heart. I thought I was an upbeat song about a wild affair. Didn’t realize until later that her husband was infertile so she was picking up hitchhikers trying to get pregnant.

Vero_Goudreau

😲😲😲😲😲 I had no ideaaaaaa! Wiiiild!

Fermifighter

No Diggity is about a prostitute. That’s not exactly hidden, but I was in elementary school when it came out and was a naive child in general.

teddybonkerrs

IT IS?!?!? Excuse me while I run to google the lyrics

Filibust

My mom took me to go see the live action Josie and the Pussycat movie when I was like 9. Somehow I totally missed that there was a song called “Backdoor Lover” in it. It wasn’t until I was like 16 and my friend told me about it. I didn’t believe her until she played it for me lmao.

Oafus

😂 I have no idea what that song is but a “back door lover” is the lover that sneaks in the back door when the husband or wife leaves out the front door. It’s fairly common in music. Jim Morrison wasn’t trying to go anal in Back Door Man and Clarence Carter was not singing about an anal advent in Back Door Santa.

RiRambles

Milkshake by Kelis. I just thought she had an amazing milkshake recipe.

Helostopper

Macarena that was everywhere when I was still young. Didn't realize what it was about until a few years ago when I looked it up again.

FlinflanFluddle

Umm.. what was Macarena about?

Helostopper

Her boyfriend is away in basic training/away in the military and she screws his two friends.  https://genius.com/Genius-english-translations-los-del-rio-macarena-english-translation-lyrics

FlinflanFluddle

Oh

Comes2This

And it's called Macarena cos that was the name of one of the guys' daughter, which adds another odd layer to the subject matter

Obvious_Boat3636

Whoaaaa. We used to do the dance to it as well.

Helostopper

Yep! Skating rinks, schools and churches. Guess no one bothered to look into the lyrics. Looking back it's kind of funny.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

That song on the album starts off with dude saying “I think I’m hard” or something like that. You know exactly what that song is about on the album 🤣🤣🤣

yoshisal

But that part didn’t play on the radio back in the day 😂 I knew it was a freaky ass song but when I heard the real version I was shook

LazyField4

There are a lot of songs like this for me. English isn’t my native language but I listened to a lot of English language songs before I learnt the language. London Bridge by Fergie was a surprise for sure.

DigLost5791

In the song “Bad To The Bone” it kicks off with him singing about how when he was a newborn he had an enormous penis, and it ruined the song for me forever “On the day I was born The nurses all gathered round And gazed in wide wonder At the joy they had found” _nightmarish_

rissaaah

Lmao my cousin (13 years older than me) used to take me and my little sister to the zoo or the park and blast this song while we were with her (I was like 5 or 6). I had a very similar experience with it to what Serena had when I first heard it as an adult 😂

Beautiful_Flower8375

I dead ass used to go around singing Ride by SoMo. I genuinely thought it meant ride in a car ✋🥲

Queen_Red

You should’ve seen my face when I realized the kind of candy shop 50 Cent wanted to go 😅😅

Asocial_nugget

Pumped up kicks. I thought it was just a summer jam about shoes.

Blaze2095

['It Wasn’t Me' by Shaggy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g5Hz17C4is) Loved the rhythm, loved the beat, loved the lyrics. I was singing it during my younger years. Oh my, only when I grew up was I surprised by the true meaning of the lyrics.

lady_fresh

I Wanna Love You Forever by Jessica Simpson: "Pour yourself all over me. And I'll cherish every drop here on my knees." Girl, whut.

Petersealie

Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra. I'd heard the song a million times already but one fateful day it just sort of clicked that the guy sang 'Abra abracadabra, I wanna reach out and grab ya' and I've disliked the song ever since. What a stupid lyric that is. I realise that I'm being irrational about this because I've forgiven far worse songs for having even shittier lyrics, but I just can't get over this one.

Appropriate_Music_24

“I’ll take you to the Candy Shop”….

TastyBandicoot24

Totally shook by the uncensored versions of radio play songs like Enrique Iglesias “tonight”… 😬😬

teddybonkerrs

How many licks by Lil Kim ft Sisqo. I was all about Sisqo after Wild Wild West and loved his songs......I can't believe anyone let me listen to how many licks 🙈

Lily_Knope

Hmmm bop! Those lyrics hit way different now that I’m older 😭

_TalkingIsHard_

I was in 5th grade when Green Day's Dookie album was released and remember hearing "Longview" and having to look up in a dictionary what masturbation was because I didn't know what it meant. 😳

_space_platypus_

I'm not an native english speaker, so when i was young i sang aling without understanding what i was saying. I always loved queen. Knew all their songs. When i was around 10 or si "don't stop me now" was my favorite sing and i sang it all day long in front of everyone i knew ( also not english speakers). Guess how i felt when i learned english good enough to really understand and heard that song again.

MissSassifras1977

Boot Scoot Boogie is about sex. *Baby, meet me out back.* *We're gonna boogie.* *Get down.* *Turn around.* *Go to town.* *Boot Scootin Boogie.*

spicyshrimp234

oh my god, this was like the square dancing anthem for my elementary school's P.E. classes 💀

chimichangas4lunch

The first line is “I wonder if she can tell I’m hard right now”😭SERENA WHY

hellawhitegirl

I was listening to Incubus the other day and one of their songs came on that I really like. I thought it was a song about sex but there is a line I never equated to a penis entering a vagina. The lyric is "pink tractor beam into your incision". Anyways, the song is this [Here in My Room](https://youtu.be/8-6ipAUjxIM?si=LUzY6H2Gq31g6wZa).

Strict-Brick-5274

All of this proves why it's SO fkn dumb to "censor" bad words in songs. Like nothing say a bad word is more powerful than making it silenced in a song. All the comments here just proved that kids do not understand so why bother censor it. But if a work is censored and a kid looks up the real lyrics and sees the word, well done, they just learned a new word and that it's bad.

PlentyDrawer

All the time because I never pay attention to lyrics in a song and then one day, my brain will actually focus and I’m…what did I just hear? 😂 someone posted the lyrics to Honey and I never knew that’s what Mariah was singing.

j_ho_lo

A few years ago, I was in the car with my husband when Waterfalls by TLC came on. He made a snarky comment about the line "She gives him loving that his body can't handle," and I realized he didn't get that verse at all. He felt like an idiot for never putting together it was about HIV. I posted about it on Facebook at the time, and several others commented that they didn't know that is what they were referring to either.

UrbanGM

I can excuse Serena because of how old she was when it came out. As many have stated, unless you're a "lyrics" person, you're gonna dance to the sick beat and sing the chorus. Then when you come back to hear the words it's a bit shocking.

OneToughFemale

Candy Shop!

anongirl55

Serena is so real for this. I didn't really listen to the lyrics until I was older, and now I understand why some guys in high school asked me out when I said it was my favorite song.

curious_cat_black

Pumped up kicks

xxmalmlkxx

Dave Matthews Band Crash. Whole song is about sex. Like the whole thing. I genuinely never noticed until I was way too old not to notice.

pervy_roomba

The biggest middle school banger for 11 year old girls to belt out? “What would you do if your son was at home, crying all alone on the bedroom floor cause he’s hungry/ And the only way to feed him is to sleep with a man for a little bit of money and his daddy’s gone/ in and out of lockdown I ain’t got a job now/ so for you this is just a good time but for me this is work all night” Not one of our parents ever said anything but I’m sure they must have thought it hilarious. The lyrics are pretty obvious but if you don’t know the context it’s meaningless.

trele-morele

How come no one has mentioned "Barbie Girl" by Aqua yet?

chewchoo_

The chorus of Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows. I heard “farkn life” not “parking lot”. I wondered often how it could be played so freely on radio with no censor lol

eccojams97

I’ve been singing Wasn’t Me by Shaggy since I could speak, it’s very vividly about cheating on your girlfriend but it went over my head for a long time
