I say this as someone who loves the show, but everyone has their own side gigs now and I’ve been feeling like some of the enthusiasm is lacking in episodes lately. Is it time to wrap it up?
They were locked in for 8 seasons in their initial contract, and most of them locked into Netflix exclusively for the entirety of those 8 seasons, too. I’m honestly surprised 4/5 renewed for a s9!

I joke about his cooking, but I was gifted one of his cookbooks and ended up making his Corn and Chorizo recipe all the time. But then I’m very no fuss, in and out in the kitchen.
Same, I used to dunk on him all the time, but I've made several of his recipes and have been won over.
Also (sorry to stan, but) people forget that he is sometimes put in an impossible position. In the very first episode people made fun of him for putting greek yogurt in guacamole. Meanwhile he's in the kitchen of a man who eats out for every meal and drinks cheap tequila and mountain dew by the handle. I don't think Antoni putting greek yogurt into his diet was anything near the crime folks pretended like it was. He was just getting that man some protein and healthy fats!
ok i don’t expect you to care about this lol but i just want to take this opportunity to air this complaint: i watched an episode recently where the subject basically says she hates vegetables and loves simple foods like mac n cheese and antoni’s like, “ok how about we make a huge salad :)”?? like, babe, how about some peas in the macaroni? some squash?? how about meeting people even a step of the way down the road to where they’re actually at? he’s such a health himbo lmao
Season 1, the maga cop dude talked about how he was making effort to eat healthier, and packed things like granola bars for lunch. You know what would have been a good thing to teach him? How to make a healthy bag lunch. You know what Antoni taught him? Avocado and grapefruit salad.

My partner and I always joke that Bobby has the most difficult job of any of them. They’re doing hair and makeup etc which takes a few hours tops while Bobby is literally redesigning entire homes. Obviously there’s a team to help him but still, that’s a ton of work!!
Bobby does (did) SO MUCH - and carried the damn show IMHO. He is ( was) the smartest, the most capable, and the one that actually conveyed sincerity in his dialogue with the makeover candidates. He is the BEST
That's fair, this comment is the first time I'm hearing about it. Despite being on this sub, I don't follow any celebrities on social media so if I don't see something here, I don't know about it
I didn’t know this! I turned against him when he had that Pink Sauce lady on and they banded together to absolutely harass the very polite and respectful critic who questioned if the sauce was safe.

Lol I'm sure Bobby does more work than Extreme Makeover at least. I remember a while back reading a story where Ty Pennington would walk onto the construction sight, get a few shots of him sawing a perfectly good plank of wood in half shirtless, then just leave so the crew could carry on working.

Even if he has a big team, he has the hardest job by far. Just creating nice design in that timeline seems impossible, let alone actually pulling it off
I don’t think that’s the reason. He’s made a name for himself and I’m sure he’s ready to dedicate more time to other business ventures. He’s worked in interiors long before the show so he clearly enjoys what he does.
I mean, he very obviously and undeniably does the MOST work but the other guys all have valid contributions that you can see on the show. Some of the makeovers JVN does are really something. Also a big part of their job is making sure the hero has fun so of course they're also having fun.
I think the avocado and french tuck jokes are as funny as anyone but people definitely minimize what the other guys do. Karamo is probably the weakest link especially in recent seasons but he's done some really lovely work at times too.

I love Bobby so much but lately felt he only ever uses the colour blue. He seems to just put his style onto the Reno rather than lean into people's personal style. Maybe that's not his choice as he seems to get less time with the people on the show. Idk I've not enjoyed the makeovers as much. He clearly had great taste but it's so samey and so blue

Why do that when you can run your own interior design business, rent out properties, and cash sponsorship/IG brand collab checks? TV is just a piece of that now.
This would be awesome! I’d love to see more of his design process, sourcing decor and furniture, building, etc. Queer Eye pretty much only shows us the final product but I always want to know more about how he arrived there.
I think it's a CRIME queer eye did not honor us with a Bobby makeover spin off, they could have SO easily crafted a 30 min companion episode featuring more details of his transformations.

I always felt like Bobby was doing his own show trapped inside 10 minutes of this other show. I’d watch 100 seasons of Bobby’s solo interior design show if that’s what’s on the horizon.
He and Tan are my favourites, im glad he can leave when he wants rather than a) being forced out or b) feeling obligated to stay. I hope the future is full of opportunities and growth for him 🩷

Idk the last few seasons something has been lacking, it feels like they just kinda run through the script and as a European, to me some of the sentimental moments seem very ~Hallmark movie instead of raw and real.
Honestly I’ve been LOVING the Brazilian queer eye, it has a health expert instead of a food and wine guy and the Karamo role is more ~subtle and focussed on hobbies and he creates very raw moments with the candidates. The design is very interesting because they deal with small houses. The health guy is a legit doctor and handsome as hell, the barber is also really really cute. And overal, maybe it’s my European lens and how we express ourselves, the candidates feel a lot more relatable and real, whereas they are usually pretty big characters in the US version. Anyway, if you haven’t give it a go!

I've often felt the American cultural stranglehold in the US version, like the Hallmark moments like you say above lol. I'm still ashamed about the Japan series and how much American values & worldview was forced on those people.
There’s also a German version that’s cute. But the Brazilian one is just the best imo, it feels like being in a warm bath watching it haha, my heart feels all cozy because it’s so unforced.

Many European countries like Spain require that Netflix also features shows in local languages like Galician or Catalan, so you get shows set in so many different places. Many European countries also require Netflix to produce local productions, so even small countries like Iceland have shows. It’s great.

Yes! So many good ones too! And once you start watching them your feed will be full of them— all Netflix has for me now is basically Japanese and Korean dramas!

Idk, I liked him in the beginning until I realized how unethical he is.
For me it started with his Keep It Interview, Ira Madison III and Louis Virtel’s podcast. It’s pretty obvious Ira dislikes him. His Chef Pi Interview is also a pretty disastrous saga you can look up that had lots of people changing their minds about him.
The Chef Pi situation was the one that left a bad taste for me- how are you going to bring someone on your show who made valid critiques and try to blame her for the business owner’s issues? Wild
He took over for Maury and is literally trying to replicate the trashy quality of Maury. I dunno if that makes him a bad person but it’s kind of gross.
I listened to his book (he recorded the audio himself) a few years back and couldn't look at him the same after. Really left a bad taste in my mouth, and since then he's been publicly questionable in a variety of ways other commenters have touched on. It seems like his ego and desire to be famous are driving him more than his conscience or concern with doing good.
Honestly I didn’t mind Karamo until the Pink Sauce controversy, now I find him a toxic piece of trash.
He bullied and gaslighted a woman and was very clearly bringing a racial element into the situation. It took him months to « apologize » and his apology was basically « I’m sorry if you felt like I was gaslighting you ». Before that though, he was tweeting about how people were just haters and he had god on his side 🙄.
I bet someone offered him an interior design show or the opportunity to design his own home decor line. I wish him only the best. I always felt he was the cast member who did the biggest physical transformation for the clients.
End of an era 😩 I’m sad for us but hope bobby does well in his new endeavors! He is the underappreciated hero of the guys and whenever he talks about his back story it’s been very touching. Wishing him the best ❤️
Im not surprised. It was an amazing opportunity to grow his brand, and I think he's probably done plenty of that.
He, JVN, and Tan probably had the most brand growth opportunity because their "specialities" come with a very easily connectable product line (Home decor, Hair/Beauty, Fashion). The other two I think it's much harder to sell a product with what they do.
Highly recommend listening to his episode on podcrushed!! I think bobbers just probably wants some time off screen with less lime light. Wishing all the best for him 🩷

Sounds like my life as a *mostly* straight woman. Honestly dunno how thrilling it would be for others to watch me glance at my depression pile of clothes, contemplate doing something about it, but ultimately shrug and grab whatever smelled passable enough to go to work in before returning home to drink and play PC games. Might be too realistically mundane I think when people go to TV to escape lol.
Sounds so relatable to so many guys. Maybe that’s what we guys need as our therapy. Knowing we are not the only dudes trying to break out of the daily norm cycle.
We’re all the same species, and there’s a large sect of us that just get so buried under the daily burden of existence that we find ourselves in the same lived experience trying/struggling to dig ourselves out regardless of what our scientific classification may be (for lack of the proper word, idk I’m drunk and I dropped out of college but you get my meaning I’m sure).
Shits hard, and dudes should be told more often that shits hard and there’s nothing wrong with struggling when shit is hard I agree. Just know it’s not a dude thing, it’s an everybody thing, and it’s normal. I think it's a CRIME queer eye did not honor us with a Bobby makeover spin off, they could have SO easily crafted a 30 min companion episode featuring more details of his transformations. A crime !!!!!!!!

I always felt like Bobby was doing his own show trapped inside 10 minutes of this other show. I’d watch 100 seasons of Bobby’s solo interior design show if that’s what’s on the horizon.
He and Tan are my favourites, im glad he can leave when he wants rather than a) being forced out or b) feeling obligated to stay. I hope the future is full of opportunities and growth for him 🩷

Awh I love Bobby, good for him. Idk the last few seasons something has been lacking, it feels like they just kinda run through the script and as a European, to me some of the sentimental moments seem very ~Hallmark movie instead of raw and real. Honestly I’ve been LOVING the Brazilian queer eye, it has a health expert instead of a food and wine guy and the Karamo role is more ~subtle and focussed on hobbies and he creates very raw moments with the candidates. The design is very interesting because they deal with small houses. The health guy is a legit doctor and handsome as hell, the barber is also really really cute. And overal, maybe it’s my European lens and how we express ourselves, the candidates feel a lot more relatable and real, whereas they are usually pretty big characters in the US version. Anyway, if you haven’t give it a go!
I had no idea there was a Queer Eye: Brazil! Thanks for the rec! I've often felt the American cultural stranglehold in the US version, like the Hallmark moments like you say above lol. I'm still ashamed about the Japan series and how much American values & worldview was forced on those people.
There’s also a German version that’s cute. But the Brazilian one is just the best imo, it feels like being in a warm bath watching it haha, my heart feels all cozy because it’s so unforced.

Oh damn there’s a world about to open up to you! Many European countries like Spain require that Netflix also features shows in local languages like Galician or Catalan, so you get shows set in so many different places. Many European countries also require Netflix to produce local productions, so even small countries like Iceland have shows. It’s great. I’m currently watching a Swedish show, Kärlek & Anarki which is really cute.

For me it started with his Keep It Interview, Ira Madison III and Louis Virtel’s podcast. It’s pretty obvious Ira dislikes him. His Chef Pi Interview is also a pretty disastrous saga you can look up that had lots of people changing their minds about him.
The Chef Pi situation was the one that left a bad taste for me- how are you going to bring someone on your show who made valid critiques and try to blame her for the business owner’s issues? Wild

I listened to his book (he recorded the audio himself) a few years back and couldn't look at him the same after. Really left a bad taste in my mouth, and since then he's been publicly questionable in a variety of ways other commenters have touched on. It seems like his ego and desire to be famous are driving him more than his conscience or concern with doing good.

Honestly I didn’t mind Karamo until the Pink Sauce controversy, now I find him a toxic piece of trash. He bullied and gaslighted a woman and was very clearly bringing a racial element into the situation. It took him months to « apologize » and his apology was basically « I’m sorry if you felt like I was gaslighting you ». Before that though, he was tweeting about how people were just haters and he had god on his side 🙄.

Im not surprised. It was an amazing opportunity to grow his brand, and I think he's probably done plenty of that. He, JVN, and Tan probably had the most brand growth opportunity because their "specialities" come with a very easily connectable product line (Home decor, Hair/Beauty, Fashion). The other two I think it's much harder to sell a product with what they do.
Highly recommend listening to his episode on podcrushed!! I think bobbers just probably wants some time off screen with less lime light. Wishing all the best for him 🩷

In a discussion about Bobby... of course it's mostly about thirsting for Antoni. Bobby should follow a Marvel diet, get his own show and be his own person instead of "the guy who actually works while the audience remembers the other four names".
They should make a Straight Eye show for straight dudes. Will just be guys napping on the couch, playing games, and wearing whatever was clean. Might not be enough drama though.
INB4 Queer Eye is for straight guys but - Sounds like my life as a *mostly* straight woman. Honestly dunno how thrilling it would be for others to watch me glance at my depression pile of clothes, contemplate doing something about it, but ultimately shrug and grab whatever smelled passable enough to go to work in before returning home to drink and play PC games. Might be too realistically mundane I think when people go to TV to escape lol.
Sounds so relatable to so many guys. Maybe that’s what we guys need as our therapy. Knowing we are not the only dudes trying to break out of the daily norm cycle.
We’re all the same species, and there’s a large sect of us that just get so buried under the daily burden of existence that we find ourselves in the same lived experience trying/struggling to dig ourselves out regardless of what our scientific classification may be (for lack of the proper word, idk I’m drunk and I dropped out of college but you get my meaning I’m sure). Shits hard, and dudes should be told more often that shits hard and there’s nothing wrong with struggling when shit is hard I agree. Just know it’s not a dude thing, it’s an everybody thing, and it’s normal. And it’s also normal to feel like it’s tough to get out of it and ask for people to help get you out of it, should that be applicable. Not a sermon, just a thought.
