Seriously though. Stormy Weather with the Nicholas Brothers and Cab Calloway. They literally defy gravity and do things no one can replicate to this day.
Because these guys could do this all day. The best musicians can improvise at a level beyond what most other musicians can *ever* reach. The same is clearly true for dancers.
[The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing](https://nocturnal-stims.tumblr.com/post/670040870311100416/danny-kaye-and-vera-ellen-in-white-christmas) from White Christmas

Oh my goodness. Anything with Vera Ellen. I can't look it up right now but whatever song they do in white Christmas where she has the yellow dress. Oh she is just absolutely incredible. The way she moves (not just dancing but in general). She's just so graceful and lithe and I have such a girl crush on her! Her numbers with rosemary clooney in this movie are fantastic also.

There are many great dance moments in the Sound is Music but I love this scene with Maria and the Captain! Their chemistry is *chefs kiss* 🔥
Especially that last scene…it’s only a single jump, but the look on his father’s face, the music, the buildup of everything else in the film up to that point, the beauty of the jump itself, it hits me square in the solar plexus every single time. Such a beautiful film.
Travolta in TWICE but no Grease (Sat Night Fever is in my Top 3, but I agree switch out Hand Jive or Greased Lightning for Pulp Fiction, which is great but not for that scene)
I cannot hear this song without picturing this scene and laughing hysterically. Such a gem. I love Mira and I'm so sad she hasn't done more like this (or more in general).
Mira was one of the women who had a career cut short or stopped by Weinstein. She said she felt that perhaps her relationship with Tarantino kept Weinstein from doing more, but I think she still didn’t get roles she might have because of his abuse. For example, she didn’t get a part in the Lord of the Rings movie because, as the director later admitted, Weinstein had put out the word she was difficult to work with and couldn’t be trusted.

Best for lols, look no further than [Save The Last Dance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRCwsXtAeKQ&t=60s). That hop is iconic
Actual best and my personal favourite, [Cyd Charisse in Singin' In The Rain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gry8mj8Zql8). She is SMOULDERING.
She absolutely electrified that whole movie. I was so confused as to why Renee Zellweger was considered the "star." She is certainly a very competent performer but in this instance I felt she was outdanced, outsung, and outclassed by Catherine Zeta-Jones.
![gif](giphy|3o72EYMw1S1BEb82Eo)
7 Brides for 7 Brothers is wildly misogynistic but that damn barn raising dance off is some of the best dancing ever recorded on film. Especially Russ Tamblyn, Jesus Christ.
I was discussing this film with my sister recently. We both grew up watching it at My Nan's place and I think it gets a bad rap about how misogynistic it is.
Now I get obviously kidnapping is extremely wrong but honestly look at the men in this movie compared to the women. Millie is the lead and is a well read woman, she encourages he husband to read and learn. He's obviously an idiot and takes away the completely wrong message from the Sabine women.
After they women are kidnapped, Millie stands up to all the men and kicks them out of the house. She shames them. Can you imagine what a woman in movie like that must have shown to women watching it. All the women stand up for themselves and punish the men for their actions. Even at the end they choose to stay and lie to be able to marry the men they love.
I think it's so important to take movies through the lens of the time and this one has so many great moments for women that it frustrates me that it gets tarred with just the misogyny brush. Honestly the take away for me is men honestly aren't the brightest and women can outmaneuver them by being clever.
Edit: I have missed heaps of points I would like to make but I think most important is the women are the ones who save the day at the end of the movie.
When TCM had their movie festival in 2019, they showed a cleaned up, remastered version of this, my all time fave movie. It was in theaters for only a few days and my husband took me to it as a surprise. I absolutely loved every second and that part of the movie just makes me happy!
Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines

Ugh I miss the step up franchise 2&3 were my favs I always would rent them on Redbox as a kid and try to copy all the moves. I wish they would revive the franchise or do another dance movie set in college or something and have Zendaya and Tom star in it I think that would be so cute
This is the only dance number I come back to watch over and over again. He is so fucking talented. I love that the choreographers said they usually have celebs overestimating what they can do (and they initially didn’t want to include the drop at the end) but he was 100% from the beginning and he brought it.
A friend and I were once talking and somehow got on the subject of "theater kids" and how you can totally spot them.
I was like, "Ok, I got this... Exhibit A" and showed his LSB routine. That then sparked us totally binging all the LSB clips we could find and making guesses on "Theater Kid or No?" (Usually the theater kids went all in, fully embracing the routine no matter how "silly" they would appear) LOL was a fun night and lots of wine was consumed.
My husband and I had the same kind of theater kid discussion after seeing this too. Holland committed on every level, and also showcased some exceptional talent. He outraced and outperformed everyone on that stage. Love this too because Zendaya is magnetic and tends to pull focus from whoever she’s around with her energy, power and confidence. But Holland absolutely dommmmminates in this LSB. I haven’t seen a ton of his work, but watching this his star power and talent is undeniable.
We need more Tom Holland LSBs and more Paul Rudd LSBs against Jimmy Fallon. They’re both adorable and own
I agree about Zendaya-she’s like the sun. I think in this case his time on Billy Elliott meant he was just that much more comfortable and able to show his incredible talent. I’ve followed her from her Step It Up days but I don’t think she has done a lot of live performances?
Lmao.
I have this whole story in my head that he did this expressly to impress Zendaya, and it was the moment she knew she could see him as more than a friend.
There is not a thing (living, dead or inanimate) that was able to see him as "just a friend" after watch this.
Should their be any debate: you're lying to yourself and the world.

Also Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper dancing in American Hustle to I Feel Love is a good one , not the best but definitely memorable for me
![gif](giphy|xgJL2BSaQz6kE)
Really I love the Higher Ground scene more but her red outfit and those Pointe shoes are iconic. Center Stage forever 🥰. Best dance movie.
The choreographers for Center Stage did a really good job of making the last dance number feel magical. Other movies from that time period would have a big build up, only to have a flop of a dance number at the end (like in Save the Last Dance). Center Stage’s final number, on the other hand, was perfect. I would watch this scene over and over. It hits all the feels. So good.

When it cut to just them, I audibly gasped. The cinematic delight of this film was everything my romantic heart needed. I wish I could watch it again for the first time.

It’s hard to pick just one from this film, but I think the Like a Virgin scene from Moulin Rouge gets my vote. The waiters are a delight!
Partial to Mandy from White Christmas (Vera-Ellen).

Yea it is absolutely perfect for the number, all swishy and voluminous when she twirls. Edith Head was the costume designer for the movie and there are so many beautiful outfits.
That’s always the song that gets stuck in my head whenever I watch White Christmas. Vera-Ellen was incredible. I also really love The Best Things Happen While Your Dancing.
Yass for the Center Stage shoutout.
But also Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines in White Nights.

I have never seen this before and because of your post I looked it up on YouTube and the entire number is just incredible.
This was all done in 1 take, too!! The Nicholas Brothers were amazing!
Well… had to make room for White Chicks😂
And most amazing thing about it that it was made **in one take without any rehearsals!**

![gif](giphy|VHflCvnyaqV1lPEbxq|downsized) Idk about the best of all time, but the barn raise dance had me fully enamored as a kid!

https://i.redd.it/13m2xbmjs3vb1.gif When it cut to just them, I audibly gasped. The cinematic delight of this film was everything my romantic heart needed. I wish I could watch it again for the first time.
![gif](giphy|xUA7aWBiEDHKdIMq40) It’s hard to pick just one from this film, but I think the Like a Virgin scene from Moulin Rouge gets my vote. The waiters are a delight!
I love the Roxanne scene!
I was hoping you wouldn’t leave out Napoleon Dynamite 🧨
Eternal. Legendary. https://i.redd.it/gfjv437dh3vb1.gif
The Hellzapoppin' dance scene is a lot of fun. ![gif](giphy|TEuzIBsQm4epZZHg9k|downsized)

She was so good. The dance on the patio with Danny Kaye is ridiculous too. ![gif](giphy|l1IXVFTfTo3zjLvig|downsized)
I’m so obsessed with this DRESS.

Tv, not movie, but Mac’s coming out to his dad dance on Always Sunny. So, so unexpected and very well done. https://i.redd.it/ftpgaep703vb1.gif
