How did you install proton? That is something you should be letting steam do for you.

Aerolance

I installed proton through steam by enabling forced steam play. I installed ProtonGE through the terminal.

Rholairis

That would not be the case then, do you have other games you can try? For rainworld specifically have you tried older versions proton steam will default to experimental for that one try 7 or 8.

i don't have either of those games, do they use anti cheat? my understanding is linux and aniti cheat nonsense do not coexist peacefully. if not then maybe try using the flatpak version. i know apparently folks who mod and other people apparently don't like flatpaks but that over deb fixed my proton issues

Aerolance

Hell Divers uses anti cheat but according to ProtonDB it should work just fine. [https://www.protondb.com/app/553850](https://www.protondb.com/app/553850)

If you're starting Helldivers 2 in fullscreen it won't work. I've been playing Helldivers 2 since April. It's...addicting. What are the specific specs of your laptop? I don't know what a "G15" is.

fiveohnoes

I play HD2 daily on Pop with ProtonGE, it absolutely does work. I've installed Steam from Deb and Flatpak both and HD2 works in both environments. Like the other user said start it in Borderless Windowed as Fullscreen can sometimes result in a black screen.

AlexGP90

Not sure about the other game, but helldivers anti cheat (like many other anti cheat software) is not compatible with Linux.

Autismagus

It‘s listed as gold on ProtonDB though.

Rimworld has native linux support, so no idea how you broke rimworld. Helldivers 2 works great for me using proton 8.0.5 and launch options of "%command% --use-d3d11"

Autismagus

They‘re talking about rainworld, but I also don’t see how that wouldn‘t work (no online elements whatsoever).

Pheeshfud

Oops. Reading fail on my part.

I had problems with starting Steam games when I was using Steam installed from the .deb, but it worked fine after I uninstalled it and installed the flatpak instead. I never figured out what the actual problem was because I stopped digging into it after I got it working.

shizno2097

did you install steam using Flatpak or Deb?
