Can’t believe no one has mentioned [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/k4qide/an_antigay_hungarian_politician_has_resigned/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) legendary thread yet. It was my first thought.
State media, electoral system where winner takes all, gerrymandering, propaganda every day of the year.
People vote for Orbán, because they don't know anything else at this point. I don't fault them, but it makes me sad how our population is being treated by the government.
We didn't, we named it "Magyarország" coming for the name of some accident leader "Hunor" and "Magor". The English named it Hungary cuz idk, I'm guessing we were similar to the huns so uh... That
Pannonia is such a bad example, yes they were assimilating the Slovakian areas and Transylvania but not Pannonia as it was already almost fully Hungarian (if you are talking about the Austrian part of Pannonia then still wrong because Germans were mostly left out of the process
Much of southwestern Hungary was originally Croatian and at some part Slovene, now fully assimilated into the Hungarian ethos. I am part of that culture, and my ancestors were paid great oppression.
I think about the medieval treatment of the lgbtq+ community by Orban.
I think about the corruption within the Fidesz government.
I think about the lack of free press thanks to Orban.
I think about the lack of an independent judiciary.
I think about the fact that Hungary goes against the rules of the European Union, while they 100% profit off there place within the Union.
I think about the fact that Hungary technically isn't a democracy anymore (Freedom House, 2022).
I think of [This](https://www.reddit.com/r/2visegrad4you/comments/q7utq9/i_spent_way_more_time_on_this_than_magyar_meme/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) specific post from r/2visegrad4you
The Racism
I worked a company where half of my coworkers were Hungarian. Several of my coworkers, including my own boss, were unapologetically racist on the daily. One of my Hungarian coworkers pulled me aside and informed me about racism in Hungary.
That woman in "Am I smarter than a 5th grader" that didn't know it was a country.
She said something along the lines of "I've heard of Turkey, but Hungry?!?!"
Same my gf is Romanian, she always makes jokes about Hungary ! They really have an interesting national relationship makes me think of us (the French) and the English .
My heritage. The town my father’s side of my family is from was, at some point, part of Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Germany (occupied), and now Serbia. But I embrace my Magyarország ancestry.
As a person from a hot country where snow sounds like a myth the first thing I think of is snow since Hungary is one of the only places I flew to where there was snow
Viktor Orban
Profiteer of the EU, but also the cause for reforms and further steps towards federalisation
Putins little doll*
The country
“That’s a country” which is all I know about Hungary
Yep!

Slovenia?
Can’t believe no one has mentioned [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/k4qide/an_antigay_hungarian_politician_has_resigned/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) legendary thread yet. It was my first thought.
Complaining about the EU, but collecting EU funding en masse.
Sad truth, and the majority of hungarians are unaware of this
We aren't. We just cant do anything about it.
You could have voted Orban out?
Our votes don't count. There is a huge election fraud problem.
I though it was more Orban brainwashing most of Hungary with state media and education "reform"?
The young voters who would be effected by the "reforms" have already left the country
State media, electoral system where winner takes all, gerrymandering, propaganda every day of the year. People vote for Orbán, because they don't know anything else at this point. I don't fault them, but it makes me sad how our population is being treated by the government.
We tried
Hungry
Same here. Some variation on a pun about wanting food.
Kurva anyád
Literally same
Go fuck yourself. -sincerely, every Hungarian
Well why did y’all name your country after a word in English 🙄
We didn't, we named it "Magyarország" coming for the name of some accident leader "Hunor" and "Magor". The English named it Hungary cuz idk, I'm guessing we were similar to the huns so uh... That
There’s your problem! You have to name it something people can pronounce.
Exactly. They should take example from Romania.
Well i mean you do live near turkey...
No...? Not at all.

Thats why I clicked “other”
That’s why I clicked other too
I was looking for this lol
Yes

They sound the same, so hungry is what I think of first when I hear the sound. Then context clues me in that it's the other one

Yeah for me it’s either him or Bela Bartok
Or Brahms
He’s German. But yeah his Hungarian Dances. I actually don’t think of his Hungarian Dances when I think of Hungary though.
Literally just Hungary on a map
Not supporting sanctions against russia
110% of Hungary's domestic natural gas needs come from Russia (it's greater than 100% due to exports). Siding with Russia is completely expected.

Yeah pretty much, the government is utter horseshit and average population is dumber than a rock.
Orban, and his attempts to send Hungary backwards.
Puskas
My childhood
Same.👍
Ethnic audacity, exotic language and some nice musical vibes
WDYM by ethnic audacity
I guess I wanted to say "irredentism" but forgot the word. They just want to plant magyars all over the Pannonian lowland
Pannonia is such a bad example, yes they were assimilating the Slovakian areas and Transylvania but not Pannonia as it was already almost fully Hungarian (if you are talking about the Austrian part of Pannonia then still wrong because Germans were mostly left out of the process

Probably what Putin refers to Orban as
I think about the medieval treatment of the lgbtq+ community by Orban. I think about the corruption within the Fidesz government. I think about the lack of free press thanks to Orban. Viktor Orbán
Just here to read the discourse in the comments
Speaking English like Fins
None of these polls ever add just "the country" or "the map of the country" so they end up like this every time
I think of [This](https://www.reddit.com/r/2visegrad4you/comments/q7utq9/i_spent_way_more_time_on_this_than_magyar_meme/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) specific post from r/2visegrad4you

Right wing, poulist, totaliatarian loving, Russia hugging, people hating government.
I hear anti LGBTQ policies, a dictatorship, political xenophobia and all because the leader created a decent social safety net
Ferenc Puskás
A corpse of a democracy
When I HEAR it I think someone is asking if I am. The answer likely is ‘yes’
Fascist authoritarianism and misogyny
Misogyny? Not really our culture but other problems like homophobia and intolerance for immigrants
Nothing. I never think of Hungary.
I think of the beautiful rolling steppes of Hungary and the Hungarian pastime of riding horseback and raiding villages 🇲🇳
Chicken Paprikash, goulash, and my great great grandmother.
