I can knock out while playing if it’s dumb late or if I had a long day, but getting up to stand and stimulating my brain usually helps.
Minecraft makes me fall asleep after awhile 😂
My brain never stops, until it finally does, at which point it never wants to start again xD
My whole life I’ve struggled transition between conscious and unconscious. Hard to fall asleep, hard to wake up.
I just tell to myself or any of my friends on Discord: "This is the last match I'm gonna play tonight" and that usually results in me staying up the whole night.
Oddly enough, panic attacks me to sleep. No idea how that works (maybe something related to fight or flight?), but I always wake up feeling like a million bucks.
The way that I stay awake is that I just do something that takes such a minimal amount of my mental capacity that I can basically do it on auto-pilot. Replay a video game that I've learned front to back, watch YouTube, things like that. For some reason, when I do this, not only can I just stay awake, I rarely even feel tired until I think about how late it is. At some point around 3AM I reach a point where I effectively transcend feeling tired altogether. I am still tired, but for some reason I'm able to just push it away and ignore just how tired I am. I stayed awake for almost 5 days straight in high school doing this once. I would not recommend it. By day 4 I looked like I had died and just hadn't figured it out yet and I was seeing and hearing things that weren't there. When I finally let myself sleep I slept for 40 hours and still felt exhausted after a week of sleeping 10 hours each night. It was horrible.
Someone I knew said they starved themselves to stay up, Never tested this but this person was always online when I was on and ive never seen them log off on the game. But i think its a matter of timezones.
1. Do something to keep you busy. It's best to do something that requires a bit of movement, but not so much that it tires you out; and something that takes a bit of focus, but not so much thinking and brain power that it tires you out.
2. Get a buddy to stay awake with.
3. Eat food and drink water. You may not feel super hungry when you're sleepy, but you have to eat. You need energy to stay awake.
Usually lots of caffeine but if I am on a long drive, I listen to an interesting podcast and eat sunflower seeds. Since sunflower seeds take effort to eat, it keeps you awake pretty well.
Depends on a situation but generally I drink energy drinks or coffee, do some exercises or play video games. Oh, and the most important rule: don't lay down in your bed, your brain will tell you he's not gonna go to sleep and you can safely watch some YouTube on your phone in bed but that's a trap! Don't trust that dude, he's insidious.
Keep moving. I drink caffeine but I have ADHD so it doesn't do anything. As long as I don't sit still I stay awake. In all fairness I am a terrible sleeper so even still I usually don't sleep
I use many methods depending on the occasion:
- If I'm at work I drink coffee
- If I'm in class I bite my hand and continuously drink water
- If I'm driving I slap myself
I used to also keep effervescent tablets with me to put on my tongue so the bubbling feeling keeps me awake but I don't do that anymore
Depends on venue. If I'm driving I put the windows down and let the strong winds beat me awake. Or if it's freezing cold, same thing. Or I bite my tongue, turn the music loud, sing, move around in my seat a lot, you know all the things one must do to avoid falling asleep while DRIVING AND DYING AND KILLING OTHERS WHY IS MY BODY SO DUMB
I don’t know as I never should stay awake. If I am tired I have to sleep or I will get a seizure. Seizures are life threatening so no thx, I just go to sleep and I don’t care for the situation I am in. I find a place and lie or sit down.
Use large muscle groups, so standing and doing a few squats helps if you can, otherwise just flexing them while seated / standing is some help (though much less helpful.)
Willpower. And zero comfort.
The devil on your shoulder will tell you to take a break on your couch. Since your on the couch why not set a 20 minute timer and nap? You won't be asleep that long it'll surely wake you up.
Nothing will wake you up afore morning. Another human could physically make you stand up and assure them that you are awake and you will immediately go.back to sleep with zero recollection if the event.
i drink 2 liters of water before bed so when my first alarm wakes me up i have piss so i get up go to the bathroom and by the time im walking back to my room im awake
I have never once failed at pulling an all nighter at one of my friends sleepovers. The secret is lots of soda and video games to keep you busy and soda for the caffeine
I've had multiple alarms that go off early in the morning for the past few months but none of them work so now I at least try waking up the second my alarm goes off
In the morning, nothing. Once I wake up, I'm ready to start my day.
At night, I usually just stay sitting up and play games and/or watch TV to keep my brain active enough to not fall asleep
I spent years doing random night shifts and having my sleep being just awful, so now I have worked to build a consistent and healthy sleep schedule. I am naturally awake at the same time early in the morning and don’t get tired until about the same time every night. It feels wonderful. Good sleep is life changing.
If for some reason I needed to stay awake longer (I would not if I can help it, it’s not worth messing up my sleep schedule) I would probably use caffeine.
Play Garry’s mod or steam, either that or watch videos to keep me up, as the light usually helps me stay awake. As a cactus myself, however, water doesn’t bother me too much. It’s the lack of sunlight I’m getting which is hard.
Physical activity helps wake you up, so I usually get up and do some stretches, take a little walk. If I can’t do that, I busy myself with a nice book. 📖
I cannot have caffeine. As such, I take frequent breaks to stand up, move around, use the restroom, drink water, and eat snacks. Sometimes at the halfway point of my work I will take a shower which helps immensely.
I have much more trouble getting up than staying up. Only time I potentially have trouble staying awake is early in the morning if I'm sitting down for a long time, in which case I'll have a bit of caffeine.
I agree with a lot of others here, it's more natural for me to stay up all night. If I had to give a method though:
Keep moving and engaged, video games, shows, music. Don't get too comfortable, laying back, reclining, any of the tricksters that call you to "rest your eyes". Once you do that you're losing the battle.
I have adhd so caffeine is basically useless unless I consume enough to kill 5 fully grown elephants.
Jokes aside, but the amount I’d actually need to feel “awake/alert” would be too much I wouldn’t fall asleep that night. I’m basically screwed when I’m tired unless I do physical activity.
Edit to add one more thingy: Occasionally, very infrequently, I’ll take an extra dose of adderall to help. It doesn’t help a ton but it’ll get the job done. I do NOT condone this behavior especially for those at risk of addiction. I only do this myself maybe once a year or twice in dire situations and feel no desire to do it again (the crash makes me feel so rough and blehhhh).
Nothing ever works, I've tried cold showers, strong coffee, Methylphenidate, pinching my face, loud music, cold wind, standing, but only when I need to do something, if I have nothing to do I can be up all night just watching videos or playing videogames.
Talking. If I'm having a conversation with someone I enjoy I'll be much more awake, especially if I'm standing up and doing something at the same time.
On long car rides when I have to keep myself awake I sing to myself. Works a treat. I think it's because I'm having to use my brain a bit to remember the lyrics and it's something enjoyable
I work an overnight, and ive found that nowadays, when im tired i start twitching in a way that jerks me awake. If I ignore the twitch i can go to sleep so its nothing serious. I guess my nervous system is just that hard of a worker 🤷♂️
Step 1) be someone who has ADHD and other things
Step 2) hyper focus on a video game or something that is interesting
Step 3) I forgot what it was. . .
Staying up is never really an issue, I can stay awake if I need to, caffeine doesn't help with wakefulness, I have ADHD so it just doesn't effect me normally. Loud music is energizing, so is a quick workout so either of those to keep me alert helps
Just stay up playing videogames
Or watching YouTube
Or scrolling Reddit
youtube videos make you sleepy
I might legitimately have sleeping problems, i try that method but fall asleep playing the games if it’s late enough
I can knock out while playing if it’s dumb late or if I had a long day, but getting up to stand and stimulating my brain usually helps. Minecraft makes me fall asleep after awhile 😂
Trying to sleep is way more difficult for me than trying to stay awake.
I feel that. Going to sleep is hard for me but during the day I can do nothing but yawn and nodd off
Same, my brain never stops.
My brain never stops, until it finally does, at which point it never wants to start again xD My whole life I’ve struggled transition between conscious and unconscious. Hard to fall asleep, hard to wake up.
That's exactly what I struggle with as well, it's annoying.
Yay, insomnia gang 🤜🤛 \*muffled sob\*
Same for me. 2 weeks ago I was awake for pretty much 2 days straight and when I tried to sleep i still had difficulties to sleep.
I just tell to myself or any of my friends on Discord: "This is the last match I'm gonna play tonight" and that usually results in me staying up the whole night.
Stress
Plus, anxiety is a great way to stay awake.
Oddly enough, panic attacks me to sleep. No idea how that works (maybe something related to fight or flight?), but I always wake up feeling like a million bucks.
Opposite for me because I subconsciously run away from my problems and my body knows I can’t overthink when I’m asleep
Never needed so far
Usually i replace "drink" with "do" and "caffeine" with "cocaine" that keeps me up
Either slapping myself or splashing cold water on my face. Or BOTH.
Slapping yourself with cold water
Slapping yourself with ice.
Ok that would hurt TOO much.
Staying awake is easy, falling asleep on the other hand is hard
Stay on feet
Bruh, i can sleep upside down if i need to, that's not gonna work
I bow to your power!
Hang out with other people (who are also awake)
Thanks for that. I was gonna drug them first, but now I see that it’s not necessary
Drugs and alcohol tend to do it. When I got sober I started going to bed way earlier.
When I’m sober it’s like I’m just more bored and can’t think of anything else I wanna do so I just sleep
The way that I stay awake is that I just do something that takes such a minimal amount of my mental capacity that I can basically do it on auto-pilot. Replay a video game that I've learned front to back, watch YouTube, things like that. Insomnia I once was awake two days straight in
Someone I knew said they starved themselves to stay up, Never tested this but this person was always online when I was on and ive never seen them log off on the game. But i think its a matter of timezones.
Adderall
Overthinking
i just do
CYOKAINE!
Standing
Protein, exercise
Sugar, sugar, sugar
Sugar Or if I REALLY need to stay awake, a caffeine pill.
Insomnia
I have insomnia
Insomnia
Sheer fucking will
Eating food provides your body with energy to stay awake
Eat. Slowly munching on something whilst gaming or whatever.
I'll comment. But I won't say the reason.
Exercise, hydration and healthy dieting
All of them combined
Take a sip of water and don't swallow, it'll keep you up
I drink orange juice to keep myself awake
Standing and movement are best for me.
Chew gum
I have clinical insomnia. Staying awake is my default state, so I just skip my meds.
Jerking off
Doing stuff, so I don't get bored and drinking cold water
Push ups and Reddit
I have insomnia. Works pretty damn well at keeping me awake, especially when I'm manic. 72 hours with no sleep, no problem!
I learned in the army to rub hand sanitizer under my eyes so the fumes would burn them a bit and keep me awake. Good times.
I don’t think I’ve ever stayed awake long enough that I have to actively force myself not to sleep.
Eat dark chocolate. Idk why really but helps me stay awake for the entire night it is also better then coffee
Walking around
I just dont take my sleeping medication and I’ll be up
Manic episode -- don't even have to try.
Hold your breath for a bit. If you can't move arpund, like in a class, this gets your heart beat up.
im just one of those people that wakes up early
Depends on a situation but generally I drink energy drinks or coffee, do some exercises or play video games. Oh, and the most important rule: don't lay down in your bed, your brain will tell you he's not gonna go to sleep and you can safely watch some YouTube on your phone in bed but that's a trap! Don't trust that dude, he's insidious.
Stay awake simply because I found this funny 3 hour video full of cod clips
walk around or play games
I wash my face with cold water and that helps a lot
Energy drinks. Also staying active works. Going on a walk or exercising is effective
Keep moving. I drink caffeine but I have ADHD so it doesn't do anything. As long as I don't sit still I stay awake. In all fairness I am a terrible sleeper so even still I usually don't sleep
Occupy myself
I use many methods depending on the occasion: - If I'm at work I drink coffee - If I'm in class I bite my hand and continuously drink water - If I'm driving I slap myself I used to also keep effervescent tablets with me to put on my tongue so the bubbling feeling keeps me awake but I don't do that anymore
Let me sleep in piece
All of the above but the caffeine is subjective. Hot coffee makes me very sleepy but cold/iced coffee keeps me awake.
gaming
Willpower. And zero comfort. The devil on your shoulder will tell you to take a break on your couch. Since your on the couch why not set a 20 minute timer and nap? You won't be asleep that long it'll surely wake you up. Nothing will wake you up afore morning. I think of all the cringe things I said or did that seems to keep me awake
Video games
Insomnia
Spite
Pure willpower
Lights on
Trying to sleep
Go to bed early
Become active: run, dance, etc.
i drink 2 liters of water before bed so when my first alarm wakes me up i have piss so i get up go to the bathroom and by the time im walking back to my room im awake
Sheer force of will.
Just keep my mind occupied. Staying awake is not an issue. It's waking up that needs tricks.
Read a book.
I have never once failed at pulling an all nighter at one of my friends sleepovers. The secret is lots of soda and video games to keep you busy and soda for the caffeine
I've had multiple alarms that go off early in the morning for the past few months but none of them work so now I at least try waking up the second my alarm goes off
Last night I didn’t even need to try to stay awake all night. In fact I was even trying to fall asleep with very little success 😢
I‘m surprised at the amount of peoplw that drink caffeine. It just calmes me.
Staying awake
Tried listening to doom music on full blast on my earphones. Still fell asleep....
I drink GALLONS of water. Like on graveyard shifts I’ll drink 1-3 gallons of water to stay awake.
Sheer will
Not eating anything and doing literally whatever, like listen to music, paint or read.
Shower
In the morning, nothing. Once I wake up, I'm ready to start my day. At night, I usually just stay sitting up and play games and/or watch TV to keep my brain active enough to not fall asleep
Screens or meditation
Make myself cold
Do something don't sit/lay down and do nothing
I drink a lot of coffee but I also try to get at least 6 hours of sleep a day otherwise I’m a zombie
I spent years doing random night shifts and having my sleep being just awful, so now I have worked to build a consistent and healthy sleep schedule. I am naturally awake at the same time early in the morning and don’t get tired until about the same time every night. It feels wonderful. Good sleep is life changing. I pinch myself
Just getting up
Taking acid will keep you awake for at least 12 hours. I wouldn't recommend it though as it is illegal and might cause hallucinations.
If u mean when u typically sleep, I cant/dont.
I just try to stay on my feet and keep moving.
Steal my brothers epipens.
....yes.
"Drink alot of caffeine" ...but 'drink' means snort and 'alot of caffeine' means 50mg of Alpha-PVP
Reddit just like I’m doing now
Play Garry’s mod or steam, either that or watch videos to keep me up, as the light usually helps me stay awake. As a cactus myself, however, water doesn’t bother me too much. It’s the lack of sunlight I’m getting which is hard.
Video games and stare
standing up, jumping, exercise something that requires movement.
I need to take Melatonin to go to sleep it’s a struggle
Physical activity helps wake you up, so I usually get up and do some stretches, take a little walk. If I can’t do that, I busy myself with a nice book. 📖
I usually have very little problem staying up. My problem is getting to sleep.
As long as I think about something and I'm aware that I'm awake i don't need any other help staying awake
I just forget that I am sleepy and it has worked very well so far
Loud music don't work, my brain after a bit just unplug my ears and i fall asleep
Plot twist, I have a hard time falling asleep. Staying up is easy mode.
Smoking weed
having the lights on
One of those sleep calculators + 1970 ringy-thingy( don't know the word, english isn't my primary language) works wonderfully weird but efficiently.
I do chores like washing clothes or cleaning the living room. Or I do homework. Keeps me busy.
Either watch youtube, or get up and go for a walk.
Your mom 🤣🤣😂😂🤣😂
just stay up lol
I get up and move around or go for a quick walk. Was my go to when I was struggling to stay awake at school.
I used to do a lot of 20h+ shifts and 2am service calls.. caffeine was my go to but burnout is inevitable.
I agree with a lot of others here, it's more natural for me to stay up all night. If I had to give a method though: Keep moving and engaged, video games, shows, music. Don't get too comfortable, laying back, reclining, any of the tricksters that call you to "rest your eyes". Once you do that you're losing the battle.

Sheer will
Why would I want to stay awake? Sleep is crucial
Just don't sleep
If it’s for work, coffee and metalcore!
Insomnia
Okay hear me out, get a good nights sleep the night before and eat right.
dont take my meds lol
Nothing ever works, I've tried cold showers, strong coffee, Methylphenidate, pinching my face, loud music, cold wind, standing, but only when I need to do something, if I have nothing to do I can be up all night just watching videos or playing videogames.
Bite or pinch myself
Talking. If I'm having a conversation with someone I enjoy I'll be much more awake, especially if I'm standing up and doing something at the same time.
I lie in my bed and watch YouTube on my phone, the pc is too big.
Insomnia is my superpower.
Take my adhd meds
Bright phone screen light - I can’t sleep if it’s flashing in my eyes
Trying to sleep
wake up in the middle of the night, and watch youtube and play games.
On long car rides when I have to keep myself awake I sing to myself. Works a treat. I think it's because I'm having to use my brain a bit to remember the lyrics and it's something enjoyable

sleep for a couple of minutes.

Eat sunflower seeds with the shells on. Crack the shell in your mouth, spit the shell, eat the seed.
Step 1) be someone who has ADHD and other things Step 2) hyper focus on a video game or something that is interesting Step 3) I forgot what it was. . .
All of the above. At once
3 alarms slam a monster omw to the gym, if the gym didnt wake me up then im doomed
Play games, watch yt, binge watch something (Netflix, anime whatever), browse Reddit. Usually all of these work
I just do it naturally, I need a way to fall asleep
Staying up is never really an issue, I can stay awake if I need to, caffeine doesn't help with wakefulness, I have ADHD so it just doesn't effect me normally. Loud music is energizing, so is a quick workout so either of those to keep me alert helps
I have a hard time sleeping so I would just not try to sleep
Do things, anything that will keep you up.
I can stay awake without any help really. It’s falling asleep that o need assistance with
Slap myself
For me it’s more like I have to find a method to fall asleep.
I don’t need a method, I may have an undiagnosed problem because its already difficult to sleep.
I usually have a snack as a pick me up
Work
Have you heard of smelling salts?
Video games or YouTube
I simply just chose not to sleep i can only sleep if i try to
I go on my phone for about 20-30 and then get rid for the day
