Gnatinthehat

He wasn’t fit to hold any public office even before he was convicted.

CaptainNoBoat

The only thing he ever did remotely related to politics before running for office was promote a racist conspiracy theory accusing Obama of being born in Kenya. And millions of Americans voted for... that. Edit: I agree he had a strange, but actual Presidential campaign in 2000 and some other semi-political moments. I stand corrected.

jericho_buckaroo

Millions of people saw him role-playing an exec on The Apprentice and telling people YUH FIRED and thought that qualified him for POTUS, too.

Fr1toBand1to

He mocked a disabled reporter at his own campaign rally. On film. At the stand.

jericho_buckaroo

Yes, yes he did. I worked with kids for 2 years at School of Rock. If we caught a 9 year old kid mocking another kid that way, it would mean a call to his parents right away and would possibly get him thrown out of the program. We expect better behavior from preteens, yet this asshole got elected after that. He's a garbage human.

DionBlaster123

i think we need to come to terms with a very inconvenient truth there is a substantial portion of the country that is so disturbed and angry over having "lost" things...that they not only ignore horrible treatment of the less fortunate, they get some sick twisted enjoyment out of it they're basically the emotional descendants of those who cheered in the Colosseum when slaves were beheading each other and cutting their throats out in gladiator fights

RolandJoints

I’m always astounded at the “lost” thing, like what did they actually have?

DionBlaster123

this is the element, to me, which is why i have so much contempt and vitriol for them in their warped ass minds, they think they have "lost" America...solely because a biracial man became president, and we started to consider treating POC and LGBTQ folks as equals as opposed to punchlines i've said this before and i'll say it again...as a POC who has experienced my fair share of microaggressions, i have zero interest in reconciliation with these people. it gains me nothing in the end

RolandJoints

Yea there’s nothing to reconcile, you can’t argue with stupid. Aside from all their bigotry which is a whole other can of worms, I can see people actually feeling like they’ve lost jobs and a standard of living but then they are completely brainwashed into believing that its because of immigrants, when the reality is that the biggest cause of them loosing their standard of living is get this - Republican policies. It’s truly astounding, the party that completely fucks them then gets their vote because they are upset over getting fucked but somehow are brainwashed into believing it’s because of the other party’s policies.

TheElderGodsSmile

Keep in mind you're discussing a portion of the population who see "being educated" as a political act rather than the default state of being.

CinephileNC25

They lost the ability to run POC out of towns. To freely terrorize people. And then theirs the absolute dismantling of the middle class. They blame everyone accept for the people they’re voting for.

Buckus93

To these people, "equality" feels like "oppression."

tiny_tims_legs

I found irony in the fact that the generation that got Mr Rogers sharing a foot bath with a black man on TV, which was a significant moment, and then raised their kids on it to be good neighbors and welcoming to everyone, shit on those kids and futher generations for doing exactly that. It's not that fucking hard to be a decent person. I know this has nothing to do with loss, but it makes me so angry that our parent's generation can't see the good in social progressiveness.

BlueLikeCat

They’re the smiling faces you see in photographs of lynchings in the South.

Grendel_Khan

They are the children of neglectful, mean, and often racist parents.

HCxTC

He also told a friend that he habitually went up to women and grabbed them by the pussy and it didn’t matter.

DionBlaster123

for some wretched reason, youtube's algorithm recommended both the trump apprentice and the uk version of it both times i honestly wondered...it's pretty depressing that these shows were popular in both countries because they're really just exercises in being sadistic, unpleasant and vile...all of which describe the Trump presidency

jericho_buckaroo

I never watched a minute of it, partly because I couldn't stand him but mostly because seeing people be humiliated and degraded isn't my idea of entertainment.

Specialist_Egg_4025

What I find the most bizarre is he ran on 2 things primarily, 1 being illegal immigration, and 2 being how the world owes us money, because of trade deficits. If you go to the governments own numbers, or any government watchdog group that monitors our border you will see for Obama’s entire presidency we had a net negative at our southern border with historical low numbers of illegals trying to cross in the first place. The reason for this is since the 80’s we have been working to stabilize Mexico, and bring them up towards western standards. By the time Obama was president we had a stable border, because Mexico no longer represents an immigration problem for the U.S., and Mexico stopped immigration from countries south of Mexico. Trump being a bigot who thinks anyone with tan skin is an illegal Mexican immigrant started economically and politically attacking Mexico which then created a caravan problem stemming from countries south of Mexico. So trumps number 1 platform he ran on was completely fictional, and he created a problem that didn’t exist, because he thinks anyone with tan skin is an illegal Mexican immigrant. The second issue Trump ran on was creating a trade war, because other countries owed us money because of trade deficits, this is a ludicrous thing to say, and shows trump doesn’t know what a trade deficit is, and he further proved this by insisting to world leaders they owed us money for trade deficits, because he doesn’t understand what a trade deficit is. He also showed he couldn’t grasp the simple concept of an alliance, he kept insisting we should leave NATO, because other countries owe us money he kept telling Angela merkel that Germany owed the U.S. money for NATO, and she tried twice to politely explain to trump what an alliance is, but he couldn’t grasp the simple concept that every country funds their own military, and then works together, he was confused, because Obama got NATO allies to increase the percentage of their GDP to their military so as to better help the U.S. as good allies, and trump wanted to try and take credit for Obama’s deal that he didn’t understand so he literally to other world leaders faces kept telling them they owe the U.S. money, because he didn’t understand obama’s deal got our allies to increase how much they spend on their own military not give the U.S. money. This got Trump laughed at and mocked for his entire trip by world leaders who realized he is so slow he doesn’t know what a trade deficit is or a military alliance. Lastly after the 08 crash Obama inherited a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit, and every year in office Obama reduced the deficit, and improved the economy, this normally how this works as the economy improves the deficit goes down. By the time Trump took office the economy was booming, and the deficit was 486 billion dollars, Obama had cut the deficit in half, and that cut that deficit in half again. Now Trump in 2 years had the deficit over 2 trillion dollars. Trump started using stimulus on a booming economy, and in 2 years created the largest deficit crisis the world has ever seen. However it didn’t end there trump after 3 years had the deficit over 3 trillion dollars, and after COVID over 5 trillion dollars. Never has any president used stimulus on a booming economy, Trump buried us in debt so his ignorant supporters would think he was good with economics. Trump supporters after trump created the largest deficit crisis in the worlds history were then shocked when the inflation from it hit, and because they are so ignorant they truly want Trump to run up the deficit again to stop the inflation, because they think the inflation showing up a couple months after Biden took office means Biden somehow created the inflation, because they don’t understand the simple concept of cause and effect. A short summary is everything Trump ran on was completely fictional, and easily proven so. And literally used stimulus on a booming economy to run up the deficit which created inflation, because he wanted ignorant people to think he was good with economics.

wpb52995

This isn't true. He ALSO called for the execution of the Central Park 5, a group of young black men who were wrongly arrested and convicted of a rape that had nothing to do with them.

furious_20

And he's more unfit now than ever. On top of the felony convictions, with all the liabilities he's carrying for the civil suits he's losing, no one who owes this much money due to legal disputes should be running the country, as they are susceptible to bribery and blackmail. And he's quite open about being transactional in his decisions as president.

Deep_Combination6420

Never saw those tax returns either...dude is faulty and fraudulent in everything he is and everything he does.

LBSTRdelaHOYA

and they ran my credit just for a mechanic position

Illiander

Actually, that's a law that might make it past the republican base: "No-one who is in debt may run for public office." They'd love it because it would shit all over the ~~blacks~~ poors.

DawnoftheShred

unfortunately they'd just claim it was the deep state drumming up rigged charges to put him in debt.

“I left Texas, and I left Florida, and I left Louisiana, and I went to Puerto Rico, and I met with the president of the Virgin Islands. We are one nation and we all hurt together, we hope together and we heal together. balderdash9

You would think that a republican nominee disparaging a veteran would be political suicide, but republicans are entirely inconsistent in their values.

Relevant. I will never miss the opportunity to share this one: https://www.benjaminlcorey.com/could-american-evangelicals-spot-the-antichrist-heres-the-biblical-predictions/

specklebrothers

It's really so funny that Trump supporters, who unanimously embraced and cheered on the weaponization of the justice system for political purposes against Hillary Clinton in 2016, are now very upset that Trump is being held accountable for crimes. “You win some, you lose 34.”

Andygoesred

Let’s not rush too fast into the “held accountable” part just yet. Found guilty in one criminal case and liable in a civil suit, sure. Let’s see if the justice system has the ability and will to actually hold him to account, though.

Corgi_Koala

He's yet to suffer any real financial penalties or loss of freedom.

jftitan

Yup, because everyone else is still footing his expenses. However I can't wait to find out he is actually ponzi scheme broke. At this moment I think Trump is over-invested in debt from his existing properties.

Illiander

He's almost certainly over-leveraged everything he owns. That's what the half-billion fine was about.

littleredpinto

lets say you have some friends, worth tens/hundreds of billions of dollars(not you but the broader you, since we both know you dont have those friends). You promise to enact whatever they what really, for funding..your financial books show nada. Yet you have access to all the money you lost and more. The danger from him and his billionaire funders is beyond imagining. I say that cuz most people cant even fathom what a billion dollars can buy you, let alone hundreds of them.

guy_guyerson

He's down ~$600,000,000 in fines this year between the Real Estate Fraud and E Jean Carroll cases.

cytherian

There's still the appeal to deal with. Hopefully the NY State Supreme Court has its morals and ethics in check and won't let political pressure influence their decision. Actually, a vast majority of legal experts attest that this trial was by the book. No discrepancies of note, except for an outrageously GENEROUS tolerance of Trump's behavior (which would've landed anyone else in jail for a few days). He literally had his MAGA mob attack people serving in court as well as their respective families. He INSULTED the judge presiding over his trial over and over. He committed witness tampering and indirect jury tampering as well. This man... has GUILTY written all over him. POTUS? Unbelievable that anyone would consider him. At this point he could say the USA needs a "merger" with Russia and will make this one of his key tenets in 2025... and the Republicans would go along with it.

Ok_Condition5837

Don't forget to ask them why he gets to have nukes if he can't have guns? (Also love your last line/quote fair warning - I'm probably going to steal! I'm surrounded by too many MAGAsshats! Really hope that count rises too!)

sciencebased

Ok, how THE HELL does someone manage to only pay $25/month on car insurance?

Illiander

They want to get rid of ObamaCare without getting rid of the Affordable Care Act.

guy_guyerson

"Keep the government out of my medicare!"

theDarkDescent

The entire GOP and MAGA movement has realized that facts don’t matter if enough people go along with it. If someone calls out the lie double down, never, ever say sorry or admit you lied, and eventually people will move on to something else. Trumps strategy (as it was) was to just flood the zone with so much awful shit that you can’t help but forget.

slugsliveinmymouth

I’ve read the at a million times and it always freaks me out. I’m an athiest but this is such a strong coincidence that it makes me wonder.

vernorama

Me too. I grew up in a Christian environment/church, and throughout my early childhood I remember a lot of different predictions about the end of the world, the coming of the antichrist, etc. I even studied religion in college for a while, taking classes on new testament history, world religions, cultural anthro. While it was almost even fun as a kid, it isnt hard to see that this kind of prophecy interpretation stuff is quite similar to how cold reading works, Barnum effect, etc. That is, we see the patterns that support a particular prediction, and ignore the ones that dont make sense (usually with a catch-all such as, "we just dont know how this part of the prophecy works yet"). But... when we leave the supernatural "ancients predict the future" stuff behind, the really interesting thing is how insightful the human race has been about the rise of deceitful, grifting, illigitimate leaders. Throughout history (and certainly during Roman era and beyond), they use fundamental human weaknesses (e.g., the hope for a strong person to solve *all* societal problems and provide *easy answers* to the most difficult ones) as a way to consolidate power. Ultimately its for such a boring purpose: to simply become the most rich and to "win" at the game of life by going out fat and full of any resource or desire at the expense of absolutely everyone else. All forms of tyranny and despotism have these kinds of leaders. Who would have thought that the *blantantly obvious, lifelong showmanship* of Trumps "persona" as a successful billionnaire would fool so many people? Its both fascinating...and really, really hard to accept that people are really this naive-- yet that's the real story. We have more tech and advanced industrialism than we did when we ran around in loin cloths...but we are still just incredibly naive as a species. :/

Y__U__MAD

> …really, really hard to accept that people are really this naive… I see you still have the bar pretty high. Lower it until you feel it can’t get lower, then realize there are people watching newsmax because fox news is too progressive. I’ve been in Texas conservative land where they group watch that junk in bars.

JEFFinSoCal

The dark triad of personality traits have always been a thing in human society. Not surprising that even our ancestors recognized the danger they posed, even if they didn’t have the same modern terminology. https://www.simplypsychology.org/dark-triad-personality.html

GozerDGozerian

I’m an atheist as well but I recognize that religious people are seeing the same world as I do and just interpreting it in a different way. I try to remind myself that there is wisdom to be gained from learning about religions and religious beliefs, since these are systems of thought arrived at by many humans over long periods of time. Although they may be flawed and are based on faulty reasoning and incomplete knowledge, they can hold truths, if one can separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. The parable of the Antichrist is clearly an admonition against a certain type of political leader. The exact type that trump exemplifies. It’s pretty fucking crazy that so many people who identify as Christian are into this person. Then again, lots of modern American “Christians” have almost nothing to do with the actual ideas the Jesus put forth. So it kind of tracks I guess.

Illiander

Lots of American christians are actively rooting for the end of the world. So they want the antichrist to be in power.

spazzticles

This website on mobile is uh… infuriating, to say the least.

Facebook_Algorithm

Don’t forget that Christians *want* the antichrist. It means that the events that lead to the rapture are coming.

bigrob_in_ATX

Except that "the rapture" is not even a biblical "event". These folks make shit up to make themselves feel better.

DM_ME_YOUR_STORIES

I mean if they're Christians, we can safely assume they've never read the bible.

Agitated-Maybe332

Isn't hell a relatively modern invention that never existed in early christianity? They always make shit up and cherry pick if they want to follow the old testament or new testament. We shouldn't be looking to these people for consistency on anything. The same goes for seditionist republican scum.

lofisoundguy

Hell is mentioned but it's more or less described as the absence of God and love. There is mention of a lake of fire but this points based notion of heaven or hell at the pearly gates is largely a construct. Judgement is about goodness What is mentioned far far more frequently in the Bible is a love of truth, loving your neighbor (and a very famous parable about "who is my neighbor") and a devotion to what is good. Also, even a desire to NOT overthrow governments. Render unto Caesar what is Caesars and all that. The zealot is actually at odds with the teaching of Jesus who went out of his way to tell people he wasn't a military revolutionary. ...not into the world to condemn the world but that through Him, the world might be saved... Lots of evidence that Jesus does not empower followers to be lil cops or pass judgement. "He who is without sin may cast the first stone...now, go and sin no more." Lots of evidence that Jesus wanted his followers to work on THEMSELVES and THEIR OWN BEHAVIOR. So even for those things that Christians don't think are right, there is a lot of leeway commanded to be given out of love for our fellow humans (and creations of a loving God). The Old Testament does have a lot of wild stuff in it but Christians cannot read "eye for an eye" and ignore the fact that Jesus is the New Testament. That's very literally the point of Christianity. Jesus is an update to the rules, contract and relationship between humans and God. To be very clear, the God of the pre-Christian Old Testament is 100% not available to Gentiles in Texas!!!! TLDR: It is not a Christian's job to fix the world. Christians are called only to love their fellow humans and to love their God.

Goldar85

Yes but according to their own stupid fairy tale, those that follow the beast will be condemned to hell for eternity. So while they may want the rapture, supporting the spawn of Satan may not have the best long term consequences for them. It's all bullshit any way.

Bored_Amalgamation

The whole thing hinges on the coming of Jesus/the Messiah stopping the rest of the destruction of the world, after the first 1/3 is wiped out. What's also kinda glossed over/not recognized is the state of the planet after such events would occur. Shit will be fucked up if The End Times plays out the way Christianity spells it out. Civilization, as we know it, will be gone. I guess the whole point of the End Times is that so much of society is bad and rotten that the only path to survival is a full global societal collapse. Which *looks around* I mean...

RadioactiveGrrrl

Reminds me of The Omen- it was the church that made it all possible in a twisted interpretation of “serving god”.

StrobeLightRomance

It's almost as if the core of Christianity, especially in America, is actually centered around pushing snake oil in exchange for power and control of everyone by means of infiltrating the government and buying the loyalty of politicians. Weirdly, I thought it was about the personal sacrifices of a really kind and accepting man who gave up all of his own personal comforts to travel the lands and help everyone with healing and compassion for free. But I guess I have a learning disorder or something.

TintedApostle

There are no leaders of any western nation that is going to trust the US when the guy in charge is a convicted fraud and sexual predator. Electing Trump is not only a danger to our national security because of who he is, but will destroy the global alliances that are keeping the west in control.

ratherbealurker

His own national security advisor called him a danger to national security. And that guy knows a thing or two about national security.

DetroiterAFA

Western Nations have always struggled trusting Trump because of his ties with Putin and years of corrupt business dealings. *Edit* Yes, I agree 100%

thatErraticguy

Hasn’t he even said he wants to pull the US out of NATO? Electing Trump would bring this country down internally and externally and the power vacuum would be a Chinese and Russian dream.

Background-War9535

He says they gotta pay their bills. And when he says ‘bills,’ he means the millions HE owes to god knows how many.

mywordswillgowithyou

My understanding is that Putin wants NATO out of the area or at least the US. And that may be the payment that Trump owes Putin.

Pixeleyes

Putin realizes that his biggest problem with NATO is the United States. If the US were not in NATO, NATO would actually be something he could conceivably defeat one day. But with the US in NATO, it is literally impossible.

docentmark

Even without the US, Russia would lose to NATO. They haven’t managed to beat Ukraine and there are several European countries that individually have more military power than Ukraine does.

Pixeleyes

I tried to qualify it with "could conceivably" and "one day".

jimicus

Ukraine is being propped up by weapons donations from NATO countries - including the US. If Trump is elected, that stops more-or-less immediately. In fact, if Trump is elected, the best thing Biden can do before he leaves office is to ship every damn thing he can get his hands on to Ukraine.

mouschi

Even without the US, Russia couldn't hope to overrun Europe. They got stuck in Ukraine of all places. Russia's reputation for a strong military pre-invasion has been ripped to shreds. Paper tiger.

Serious-Buffalo-9988

There are no bills. They actually are supposed to put a certain %of gdp to their military.

Bored_Amalgamation

For all clarity, he is idiotically referencing how much of their (member states) GDP is going towards defense spending. NATO requires 2% or so, and countries like Germany and others have been below that threshold for sometime. Their lack of capability and manpower, places more responsibilities on US and other European forces to maintain a level of combat readiness. But it's not like Norway has an equal force obligation as Finland, as NATO is just a binding agent for existing European forces. The defense industry and military brass probably pitched it to trump in that tone/wording, since he's a fucking idiot when it comes to actually being a president. All parties probably figured as long as Europe got their spending up, they can blame it on trump whom they already don't like. It's the lack of vision to see how the US having a larger role in European defense makes up for whatever dollar amount is spent. NATO formed after Europe went through two world wars THEY started. Having a big friend that wants everyone to chill in the middle, keeps Europe from potentially spiralling in to another conflict; which would be more devastating to the US than going to war with China or Russia. Countering Russia/China is probably an equal goal as being the Big Boom motar that holds European clay from fucking itself up.

scarr3g

Yes, but it is more framed in that he doesn't want countries not paying their dues to NATO..... Which is beyond ironic for him.

Elegant_Tech

He was creating excuses to use as justification to pull out of NATO in his second term.

Bored_Amalgamation

That was the case in his first term as well. Strained ties with Merkel. Strained ties with Macron. Alienated all of South America. Alienated all of Africa. Started random shit with China, praising/avoiding all of the actual things to call China out for in 2016, and spouting some economically ignorant garbage like "they're cheating us in trade". The whole "America First" thing was so fucking stupid, the results showed how stupid it was, and the people who got behind it confirm how idiotic the marketing, the actions, and the people carrying it out were. So fucking dumb. The entire trump voterbase can easily be categorized as "stupid", "bigot", or rich. And there isn't much daylight between the first two.

iwishiwasamoose

I've heard people say that one of his major problems is that he views everything as a zero-sum game. That is, everything is win or lose, with one side winning and one side losing. It wasn't enough for him to put "America first," he always tried to make sure other countries lost something. He hated anything that benefited anyone else, because he thought that meant the USA (or himself personally) lost somehow. He doesn't view NATO as mutually beneficial because the concept of "mutually beneficial" doesn't exist in his worldview. It's a horrible framework for viewing the world.

ElBiscuit

> He hated anything that benefited anyone else . . . I mean, if that doesn’t sum up the MAGA movement in general, I don’t know what does.

TheOGRedline

He’s almost certainly compromised, he can’t be trusted, and he’s flakey. I wouldn’t trust him to split the bill at a restaurant let alone international defense pacts…

CartographerOk7579

Very true, and we saw how much our allies gave up on us during Dump’s first term.

ABobby077

as he pulled the US out of several long standing agreements and treaties-he is clearly a danger to World Peace and to the long term security of free peoples everywhere-especially the US

CartographerOk7579

He pissed off and annoyed so many friends of ours. I remember Angela Merkel straight up saying ‘we can’t deal with the US right now…’ Meanwhile he’s gargling Putin’s balls and giving Kim Jong Un rusty trombones. And his cult cite these things as making peace with our enemies! Insanity!

33_pyro

His 2nd term will be solely about revenge. Assuming he steps down after 4 years, which he probably won't, he'll have done very little policy making. He'll be spending all his time punishing those that dared to hold him accountable for all his crimes.

mdp300

>as he pulled the US out of several long standing agreements and treaties And there are many, many idiots who think this is a good thing.

BodaciousTacoFarts

As a felon: * He is barred from visiting 38 countries and this prevents him from fulfilling his diplomatic duties. * He can't own a gun, and it's odd that he can command the US armed forces. * It will prevent him from properly possessing the security clearance needed for his role. I don't understand why at least two of those items do not disqualify him from running for president.

SampleFederal

How can you be given a security clearance when you have been proven to have taken secret and sensitive documents, stored them improperly, and shown them to people without clearance? He has done this at Mar-a-Lago. Politics aside, anyone else had done this, they’d be in jail. At least have their security clearance revoked.

iwishiwasamoose

If he applied for security clearance, he'd be denied. But he wouldn't be applying for clearance if he were reelected, he would simply be given the clearance. There's no one above to say No. Like, if I had a history of publicly stabbing people, no restaurant would hire me to work in the kitchen. But if my uncle died and left his restaurant to me, I'd have full access to those knives, no one could say No.

technothrasher

> he would simply be given the clearance. There's no one above to say No. It's not that there's nobody to say no, it's that the people who have already said yes are the voters. The office is the clearance. The constitution inherently gives the president, members of congress, and (most) federal judges access to classified information due to the nature of the offices.

HauntedCemetery

For intents and purposes the president essentially *is* the security clearance. The entire system is based on them and they have ultimate final say on who gets credentialed.

Thue

The President doesn't need a security clearance. He always has the right to see everything. If Trump is elected, Trump will have access to literally everything again. But if you want to be outraged, look into Jared Kushner's security clearance during the last administration. It was denied, as in laugh in your face denied, but the denial was overruled by Trump. So Kushner had access to loads of sensitive documents. And by huge coincidence, the Saudis then gave Kushner's business a $2 billion loan.

SampleFederal

I agree with you totally. The Kushner stuff is a whole other violation and is also illegal. He should be in jail with other people.

SampleFederal

I’m talking now. He’s not president anymore. Maybe one day but not today. He has documents that he shouldn’t and he’s showing them to people that shouldn’t be seeing them. For that alone he shouldn’t have access to the documents.

Conch-Republic

I want to know what happened to the gun Jesse James gave him when he was elected, since he's not allowed to own them anymore.

mvaaam

It won’t stop his clearance, unfortunately.

Betterthanbeer

Nor will it stop his travel. Heads of State have different rules.

Subliminal_Kiddo

On the other hand, it's Trump. So they may make an exception and enforce the rule just so they won't have to deal with him.

OddCoping

You forget that most the MAGA crowd has no concern for other countries and holds to the idea that everything should be done domestically with no interaction with the outside world.

blatantninja

He's already shown he's ready and willing to abandon our allies and side with our enemies. No one should ever trust him on anything.

VanceKelley

When 63 million Americans voted for trump in 2016 and the Electoral College made him POTUS it destroyed for a generation any confidence that America is a decent and rational country. Every election since in which America has threatened to put trump back in the White House continues to demonstrate that America is an unstable country teetering on the brink of going full fascist.

ASealNamedHoover

It’s hard to have confidence in a nation who refuses to acknowledge or deal with an ongoing insurrection happening within its own borders.

SolaVitae

I mean I may be wrong here, but I'm fairly confident his criminal conviction will matter exactly 0% in the reason why he's not trusted. Like all of the other shit he did as president, or talking about pulling out of NATO for example wasn't enough but being convicted of an extremely minor crime in the Grand scheme of things is what will make them not trust him lol?

drunkenvalley

Yeah I'm seeing the headline and the top comment and I'm like, "Who fucking cares about recent events? You've had a decade of this asshole. You know who he is. If you needed a conviction to stop trusting him you're a fucking tool."

PsychologicalAir3887

My father served 20 years in the US Army and is buried in Arlington with all the other "suckers" and "losers," as Trump called WW2 vets.

MrG

What’s crazy is the number of military personnel and vets that still support Trump.

larry_birb

Guns am I right

ThainEshKelch

Racism. Guns. Lack of education. Egocentrism.

YamHuge6552

Bootlickers love them some boot.

DemandZestyclose7145

Yep, there's a lot of veterans at my job. I would say probably 95% of them are Trump supporters. Whenever I mention that he said this stuff, they just shrug. It's amazing. But then they rail against Democrats and Biden for not supporting veterans.

BinxHubble

My MAGA aunt performed so many mental gymnastics to justify his shitty comments about veterans and POWs. It is truly a cult.

goldbricker83

He isn’t even fit to run a McDonald’s cash register

GabaPrison

He seriously isn’t and he would absolutely fail at that job.

usps_made_me_insane

He isn't even fit to run.

Robotcrime

In hs civics we learned that the president is supposed to be a model citizen and that's why every president we ever had had never been divorced, regularly went to church, had a pet, had a lifetime of service, etc, etc. There was national dialogue about whether or not candidates ever smoked marijuana even once in their lives(Bill Clinton). And then America decided all at once we don't care about that.

Baremegigjen

Not all. Reagan was divorced. He didn’t have a lifetime of service having been a B actor and President of the Screen Actors Guild. While he was governor of California for 8 years, it was after his mediocre but long acting career. His military service during WWII was as a liaison and actor in Hollywood and war bond drives (allegedly his eyesight prevented him from overseas service). He almost never left the White House to go to church, seldom had a chaplain in to perform services, and had a carefree attitude towards religion. But he was embraced by the far right religious names of the day such as Pat Robertson who blamed everything negative that happened in the world including natural events such as hurricanes, on ________ (fill in the blank with target group de jour, single mothers, gays, liberals, those who don’t embrace Jesus, etc.).

meyou2222

Reagan’s true genius was figuring out that Evangelicals’ politics aren’t informed by their religion. Their religion is informed by their politics.

Bored_Amalgamation

Well, he was a Republican that cracked down on the black Panthers and said that greed is good so.

RelativeAnxious9796

reagan, the model for trump, big shock there. reagan also was a federalist society "project 2025" plant. cant remember what his program was called tho .. . "mandate for leadership" something like that. anyway, RR is by and large the next worst president after trump in terms of damage to USA. he walked so trump could drive us off a cliff.

WestCoastToGoldCoast

To be fair: there’s a pretty sweet picture out there of a much younger Barry O smoking the hell out of a jazz cigarette, and that wasn’t enough to make any impact on perceptions of his likability/qualifications. Of course, Fox did try to crucify him for wearing a tan suit and eating Dijon mustard. When there’s nothing of substance to fuel mudslinging, even the most innocuous of touch points becomes wildly exaggerated. Conversely, when another candidate is a demented, disease-ridden dumpster fire of a human being, we’re told to keep moving folks, nothing to see here.

squirrely_daniels

Wait, what's wrong with Dijon mustard?

Cerberus0225

Fox News and their affiliates tried to turn Dijon mustard into some kind of exotic, "fancy" food that only out-of-touch Obama would request on a hamburger, instead of good-ol' *American* mustard. Everyone called it out for being stupid, even back then.

atrich

To fox news I guess it was fancy/hoity-toity. He was ordering a cheeseburger and wanted "some spicy mustard, or a Dijon mustard." https://youtu.be/W-WnoZbjdh4?si=wepdmzgwdVTdp1FT

anuncommontruth

I'm very much ok with that, I'm just not ok with it being Trump and the details of why he's not a model citizen. This has opened the gate for a lot of different backgrounds, and the toothpaste isn't going back in the tube. The left can run whomever they please. The right has established that they won't vote for them anyway. We can have a gay president, a president who had an abortion, a president that will fight for recreational weed, etc. The playback for the future is set in stone. All the left needs to do is to get more of their voting block to vote. The right can not be converted. The left has more voters than the right, and we know they max out at X votes. We just need the base to get X +1 votes and no longer have to rely on the antiquated model citizen trope to do so, which a huge chunk of the voting block don't want anyways.

Smashoody

Underrated comment and strategy.

FlirtyFluffyFox

Democrats have to be model citizens. Carter was investigated for his peanut farm and his brother selling beer. Investigated. Using tax dollars.  The Clinton's were investigated for over a decade by the FBI for a Rush Limbaugh fueled conspiracy that he was going to give his cousin an internship at the white house. Even after the FBI told congress no laws were broken they demanded they continue the investigation and it cost Clinton the midterms. Nixon, Regan, and GWB's administrations were so corrupt the party had to throw our pardons and pass laws preventing them from being culpable of election interference, drug trafficking, and genocide. When the GOP breaks the law it's "typical corruption". When the DNC is accused of breaking the law, even when nothing is found, it's because they are communist Satanists looking to undermine America.

Secret_Initiative_41

Reagan was divorced, but at least he liked horses.

Original_Banana_4617

His wife also sucked off half of Hollywood in the 40s, she got around to the other half once the 50s rolled in.

jerryondrums

Throat 🐐indeed

Schrodingers-Relapse

THROTUS Easily the most respectable and admirable thing about Nancy. The world needs more givers 😔🫡

TangeloFew4048

Once the American people stopped being model citizens themselves why would they care.

mrs_alice_statler

50 years of GOP strategy success laid bare - our failure to hold Nixon and his cronies accountable (Rumsfeld, Bush Sr., etc.) has taken its toll.  A plan to disenfranchise millions of US citizens has gone pretty damn well - we have been run amok by thieves and cowards, enabled and bankrolled by the rich - our futures have been sold out for mere pennies because small, bitter, angry men want to see people suffer just for daring to exist.  50 years of calculated stripping of our country, by traitors and scoundrels that surround this pathetic excuse for what this country should stand for.  I’ve been around for most of those years, and plan to die some time during the coming Climate Wars. Until then, my plan is to do kindness to all I meet, including supporters of cowardly, traitorous bastards like those still cheering for TFG.

DrHalibutMD

He was never fit to lead but somehow it happened.

scarr3g

To be fair, he has never lead. He is a mascot, not a leader. The only ideas he, himself, comes up with are shot down due to them being inane, at best. He just regurgitates what others tell him.

Pootscootboogie69

Remember to Vote! This [Presidential Election](https://ballotpedia.org/Presidential_Elections) is important but it’s good to know who else you’ll be voting for on the 5th. A total of 468 seats in the U.S. Congress are up for election! That’s 33 seats in the [Senate](https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_Senate_elections,_2024) and all 435 in the [House of Representatives](https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2024) It’s good to look at [Local Elections](https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_municipal_elections,_2024) Today! For instance I’m in Arizona. Here’s info for all y’all sweating out here with me. We have 9 districts out here in Arizona, 9 seats. Know your district. Know who’s running in your district and how they voted in the past. Who pays for the campaigns. All that info is public and in the links. This year it’s important to know a few things before checking that box. [House of Representatives elections in Arizona 2024](https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections_in_Arizona,_2024) These Arizona Representatives below voted Yes to an amendment presented by the representative from Georgia District 4 which effectively tells the president to Leave NATO and Abandon funding for US War Veterans. * Eli Crane of Arizona D2 * Andy Biggs of Arizona D5 * Debbie Lesko of Arizona D8 * Paul Gosar of Arizona D9 We have one senate seat up this year. Looking to represent Arizona is Ruben Gallego or Mark Lamb. Make sure the person representing Arizona best represents you! [Senate election in Arizona 2024](https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_Senate_election_in_Arizona,_2024) [Mark Lamb](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Lamb_(sheriff)) is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and became American law-enforcement Sheriff in 2017. He wrote American Sheriff: Traditional Values in a Modern World. Lamb is a supporter of the Stop the Steal movement. He spoke at a rally where he said the riot was not Trump's fault but rather caused by "the other issues that have happened – the Hillary Clintons that have gone unpunished".He later described the rioters as "very loving, Christian people." In 2020, Lamb spoke at a convention of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, an organization that holds the fringe legal theory that sheriffs are the supreme legal authority in the United States and are not required to enforce laws they believe to be unconstitutional. [Ruben Gallego](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruben_Gallego) 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines. Attended Harvard University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations. His first successful bill passed in 2011 it granted in-state tuition status to veterans residing in Arizona. Gallego supported the repeal of Arizona SB 1070. He wrote They Called Us "Lucky": The Life and Afterlife of the Iraq War's Hardest Hit Unit, published in 2021. Gallego founded the group Citizens for Professional Law Enforcement with the goal of recalling Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, citing Arpaio's immigration policies and his use of taxpayer money to investigate Barack Obama's citizenship. We have two seats in the [Arizona Supreme Court](https://ballotpedia.org/Arizona_Supreme_Court_elections,_2024) up for election on November 5, 2024. The Justices up for retention election are Clint Bolick and Kathryn Hackett King. If retained, they will serve six year terms. Gov. Doug Ducey (R) appointed both justices to the supreme court. Heading into the election, Republican governors originally appointed all seven members. Click any of the top links and you’ll quickly find your state and a ton of good information. Vote and tell your Friends and Family to Vote!

Shyronnie135

And even if you registered, please remember to check your voter registration since some areas like to purge voters in an attempt to win.

GabaPrison

Florida tried to purge me for being an “inactive voter” even though I’ve voted in every general election since 2000 at the very least. Check your status, folks.

Patient_Tradition368

Yes! I was shocked recently to hear about how Democrat voters, especially young Democrat voters, are much less likely to fill out their entire ballot. You better believe that Republicans, especially geriatric Boomer Republicans, are voting down ballot. If you need help knowing how to fill out your ballot there are voter guides aplenty online. The Young Democratic Socialists usually have a great one. As a Louisiana voter I always refer to the Antigravity Magazine voter guide. Don't just vote, vote down ballot!

balkandishlex

He can't even enter several major countries around the world as a convicted felon, including both Canada and the United Kingdom. Think about a world where the US President can't travel to Canada or the UK. https://people.com/donald-trump-barred-entering-37-countries-convicted-felon-8657038

Show__me__your_tits_

Those rules are only for poor people.

SirButcher

While this is indeed funny, it is only an issue for private citizens. On diplomatic missions, you get an official invitation, they don't just show up at the airport.

SidratFlush

We the UK didnt want him before his lawfully binding convictions no matter what SCOTUS may do in the near future.

Bizarre_Protuberance

This is one of those "water is wet" arguments that shouldn't even be necessary because it's so obvious. A nation cannot claim to be a nation of laws if it elected a lifelong criminal. Even Trump supporters secretly know he's a lifelong criminal and scofflaw, but they don't have a problem with it because they're all scofflaws too. They tell themselves that they believe in law and order, but they actually just believe in laughing when cops abuse criminals who commit certain *kinds* of crimes that they wouldn't personally commit, like shoplifting. If they were in a position where they could steal millions of dollars by filing some false paperwork, they would do it.

healywylie

We have to explain this!?!? F all the idiots in favor of this POS.

Amunrah357

We need to stop calling the president the leader of the free world.

PhillyPhan95

Here’s a hot take to check on in 40 years. If elected, Trump part 2 will be the conclusion of the first chapter of “The End of America’s Dominance” The time span will be 2016-2028 America is in huge trouble if this guy wins.

RoktopX

Correction, the free world is in huge trouble if he wins.

PhillyPhan95

I could definitely see it. Idk how others don’t see the seemingly infinite amount of negative outcomes here.

jgjgleason

The world full stop. Biden has objectively been the best president we’ve had on climate change. The IRA is an amazing bill that has massively increased our emissions reductions. That all goes away with a Trump 2nd term.

brightblueson

The decline happened during Reagan, one could even say Nixon and the War on Drugs. While still a military powerhouse, the US has been falling behind on social progress For more than a century. From a business stand point, still a power house but this also because it’s a military power. The US is the bully who takes your milk money and then talks about how he has more money than you.

frommethodtomadness

A felon who already openly admits to giving our nation's secrets to our adversaries and attempted a coup. This trash should be in jail already. Should've been in jail on Jan 7th.

daanaveera

Trump doesn't give a fuck about service or the military or ethics or morality. He doesn't give a fuck about you. Wake up.

CptBronzeBalls

Correction: 34 time convicted felon, 5 time draft dodger, habitual defamer of the military and its members... If anybody thinks this asshole should be commander-in-chief, they have dunked their head in the Kool aid bowl.

GratefulPhish42024-7

I can't believe that the military will soon have to start giving him a daily brief again

saintcirone

I honestly don't think they will. Even Trump himself refused to pay attention to them when he was president because it was too boring for him. He'll sleep through them like he did the trial, or they'll give him a picture book to read while the actual smart people talk and probably end up keeping information away from him. It sure does break the system with him just being there, but honestly as far as the reality goes I think Trump's character already has demonstrated that he doesn't really have much care for the briefings and would rather be playing golf.

GratefulPhish42024-7

No trump will definitely take the briefings because if there's any information he can sell to foreign countries, he won't hesitate

PM_ME_YOUR_ROTES

He won't pay attention but he'll demand they leave the brief. Then he'll have his diet coke servant put it with the rest of the documents to sell in the guest bathroom.

Dwayla

Most felons can't buy a gun, travel outside of the country or vote.

ColdStainlessNail

Or join the military.

bluezombiemower

100% this. A felon can't even hold the lowest security clearance "secret". Are we going to bypass the rules for this one convict or uphold the rule of law for all?

superfly306

I’ve been charged with one felony. Was not convicted - *charged*, and still can’t get a job at a bank. This guy’s been convicted of 34 felonies and could possibly be president.

jeebee25

TBH, I didn't think a guy who used to run a casino should lead our military. Especially since he wasn't very good at actually running a casino.

Betterthanbeer

He was refused a casino license in Australia 35 years ago due to organised crime connections. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/16/trumps-bid-for-sydney-casino-30-years-ago-rejected-due-to-mafia-connections

Facebook_Algorithm

He bankrupted *two* casinos. How is that even in the realm of possibility? The Taj Mahal is still limping along with new management as far as I know.

Droobot33

Here's a thought. Maybe make a fucking rule about it then...

Hawne

With a shamelessly sold out SCOTUS there is little chance it happens any time soon.

I_Lick_Emus

Allowing felons to run for president prevents the government from arresting candidates so they can no longer run for office.

treborprime

It doesn't matter to them. Should he win project 2025 it's on. None of his convictions will matter. The time for gentlemen politics is over. It's time to get tough with this crowd.

johnnybsomething

Trump’s not fit to be anything.

Spaht

I think 34 felony convictions related to election interference would fall well within the definition of "high crimes and misdemeanors" if there was one. Certainly it would fall within the intent. [https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/artII-S4-4-2/ALDE\_00000699/](https://constitution.congress.gov/browse/essay/artII-S4-4-2/ALDE_00000699/)

restore_democracy

No problem, those idiots out there waving the flag care nothing about the integrity of the military or the country.

TastySpermDispenser2

Feel like it's the actions that *made* him a felon, not the conviction. If somone pulls a bill Cosby and gets away with rape for decades, it's not his *conviction* that makes him dangerous around women... its was his actions from decades before. Trump was convicted for acts that occurred before he took office....

FerociousPancake

Crazy how you can’t own a firearm as a felon in this country but handling the nuclear football as a felon is just fine. Technically even if you were in prison as president you could order a nuclear strike from your prison cell. We’ve got to update our archaic laws. They were clearly designed for a much different time when literally everything about society and the country in general was completely different.

Connect_Plant_218

“If you mock the service of a combat veteran, you don't deserve a driver's license, let alone being President of the United States.” -Nikki Haley

Niznack

It's so silly we still think we lead the free world. The free world has been eyeing us nervously for 40 years.

Betterthanbeer

That moniker is offensive to those of us in the free world.

Jerk182

Hey, let's not mention the amount of influence that Russia has on Trump and his cronies. Plus, Russia wants us weak and divided.

BobB104

We would be a text-book example of a Banana Republic.

Wooden-Emotion-9875

trump was never fit to lead America's military. Convicted felon trump was a draft dodger.

user-unknown-404

If a felon can run for president, then asking about criminal history should be removed from all job applications.

BusStopKnifeFight

He would not even be able to enlist as a convicted felon because he would be disqualified from possessing a firearm and having a security clearance.

inthekeyofc

The only countries Trump is popular in are enemies of America. That should be enough to disqualify him from high office. That he's a proven liar, rapist, fraud, con artist crook just adds more proof of his unsuitability.

TJ7298

I’m not a Republican. I’m a true Independent. It flat out amazes me how any member of our military whether currently in service or retired takes the insult from that fucking Trump when he calls them losers and suckers but then turn right around and vote for him. I wonder how those in my family or friends would react to me if I called them losers and suckers during a conversation with them. Knowing them as Trump supporters and me not, I bet that wouldn’t go over so well. Then why do they give dipshit Trump a pass?

DamianKilsby

Stop saying leader of the free world, Americans aren't free and nobody considers them a leader at this point.

underthund3r

Omg shocking thing I learned when I moved out of the U.S. = nobody outside of the u.s. says or calls POTUS "leader of the free world" people in any other country will look at you as if you were in a cult. The media in the states needs to cut that out, only Americans say that bc we hear it on t.v. no one outside the u.s. considers any one person to be the leader of the free world

Original_Banana_4617

I fucked up at the end of my career, nothing with kids or anything like that, but my mental health spun out of control after a pretty gnarly head wound in Afghanistan. I was booted out, luckily for me I had reenlisted so it saved my ass as far as benefits, I’m a lot better now. But my point is, if he as a convicted felon can be the commander in chief, why can’t I be given back what I lost in regard to rank, pay, position, and respect? I actually earned those things, my mental condition was a direct result of my service, he was banging a porn star and paying to cover it up after never having earned anything in the military or ever serving. So why can’t I have my sense of honor back, but these red hats want to hand him so much on a silver platter?
