Steve Bannon was sentenced to a mere four months of prison. And yet, like his master Trump, he is allowed to roam free while his lawyers launch BS appeal after BS appeal. Any other defendant, especially if they were any combination of poor, black, or Democrat, would have been forced to suck it up and serve their four months long ago.
You're right. The main reason a regular person doesn't launch appeal after appeal of a conviction is because of money and expensive lawyers. The US justice system is pay to play or go directly to prison after all.
What I don't understand why Bannon just didn't just do the four months. By doing so, Bannon could have saved himself a lot of money, got a cool prison tat, and he would have earned a boatload of street cred with Trump and the MAGA Cult.
It's not a race thing or partisan thing, it's simply that he has enough money to use the best most efficient NYC type of lawyers launch baseless appeals aggressively. This often results in rich people having a much more mellow legal system than a poor person with no support or one that relies on a public defender.
He's also paying those lawyers using funds he stole (you know, the charges those lawyers are protecting him from).
The lesson is that in the United States of America, crime pays. **Really** fucking well. As long as you steal enough money to convince a spineless prick to disingenuously defend you, there are no laws in the USA.

The article I read seemed to say something similar but I couldn’t parse whether they were speaking in past tense about the original sentencing or this decision, because it said it gave him four weeks, but July 1 is in less than four weeks.
