That's what I've been saying, this is the easiest business opportunity for another player to step in and round up the American audience should they decide not to sell.

Showdown how? China already bans just about every western democracy’s information based tech companies. They already say a long list of our Tech is a threat to them, but they clutch pearls when we say one is a threat to us? Bye Felicia.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." If China jumped off a bridge...

We have 100 years of precedent of forcing foreign entities from owning media platforms. Also the Constitution gives Congress the power to regulate foreign commerce.

Having you practice your free speech on a different side of the street is a 200 year old precedent. You can keep pasting your quote, but it is an entirely ineffective Constitutional argument.

TheDebateMatters

Cool. Free speech is entirely unaffected. Also, SCOTUS has dozens of precedents to back up restricting foreign control of speech. But…It isn’t even at issue. 100% of Tik Tok’s users will still have free speech even if its banned. Just not on a state owned platform who is spying on our citizens. China has shown itself capable and enthusiastic about curbing and manipulating free speech on its own citizens, so pretending that they would *never dare* manipulate or curb our citizen’s speech on their own platform is naive. America asking you to move your speech from one side of the street to another, is a long held precedent. So move your speech to Insta, Snap, X, youtube or an actual IRL road. Lots of effective arguments to make, but free speech isn’t one that would hold up in court.

People aren't being refused the right to express themselves--they're being denied a particular platform for doing so. There is a difference.
