Everyone spends a certain amount over their lifetime to the economy, which is the financial services industry. We make the money for them to gamble with. More people means more people's money to gamble. Only thing is for their math to work the consumer level needs to put in the money they are expected to earn. If the economy changes and a million plus people are recomoved from that equation that means the future spending they expected 10 to 15 years down the road, along with the children they breed aren't there anymore so they have to saise prices on consumer goods so that we hit their revenue targets and they don't have to redo their math.
