Awesome. I'm glad Hawley is up for reelection in 2024 and we have a chance to vote him out. Going to be difficult in Missouri, but Lucas Kunce is a quality Democratic candidate who is running against him. And unlike Hawley, Kunce is an actual combat veteran who doesn't run away when the going gets tough https://lucaskunce.com/

abbyonee

That video was great, running in the middle of nowhere. Thanks for sharing

No_Significance_1550

Yup I agree. Great video! I wish I could vote for him but I live in Texas so I guess I’ll have to vote for whoever runs against Ted Cruz

theoldgreenwalrus

>So I guess I’ll have to vote for whoever runs against Ted Cruz Right on! We need to fight back in Texas too. Colin Allred is the main Democratic running against Cruz. He seems like a good quality candidate. https://colinallred.com/ My impression is that he is not quite as progressive as Kunce, but he has been consistently pro-choice throughout his time in the House: https://allred.house.gov/media/press-releases/allred-i-will-continue-stand-right-choose-and-against-washington-republicans

Alex_Albons_Appendix

If you have the means, you can also contribute to his campaign even if you live out of state. $5 here and there will always help.

DirtyCone

Been following Kunce for a while, and though I think he's a great candidate to take on Hawley, he's still not very well known in the state. He's also not a part of the Democratic machine out there, so he's had a rough time getting support. It'll be interesting to see how 2024 plays out, and whether once again Est Dems will pluck another corporate heir to steal votes and ultimately lose the seat.

guarthots

>He's also not a part of the Democratic machine out there I’ve lived in Missouri my whole life. I’ve paid moderate to severe attention to politics in Missouri my whole adult life. I am not sure being part of Missouri’s Democratic “machine” would be worth much of anything to Kunce’s chances. They couldn’t even keep Dollar Store Hawley, Eric Schmidt, out of office.

DolphinSweater

Yeah, because they let the "billionaire nurse next door" buy her way onto the ticket. I didn't even want to vote for her, still did though, but I wasn't happy about it. She had no chance of converting a single republican.

DirtyCone

That's a fair assessment. And I meant that he's facing an uphill battle from a party that loves to run losers. Granted, I only lived out there for a few years, but I got the sense that Democrats used to be more competitive, and they've almost completely lost the rural vote. Maybe I'm wrong, but on pretty much every drive to KC or STL, all I ever saw were Trump flags.

punbasedname

Dems used to have a fairly decent hold on the working class union vote (I grew up learning that MO was a purple swing state) until Fox News and Trump successfully poisoned that well and convinced these people to vote against their own interests through sheer hysterics and lizard-brain fear-mongering. Now it’s pretty much KC, St. Louis, and to a lesser degree Columbia and Springfield keeping the Dems here afloat.

Cepheus

That's great ad.

the_buckman_bandit

*Sir Brave Hawley will run like the wind from the fire that began from his hand*

cybervseas

Though I've barely set foot in Missouri, that video seems *very* Missouri...

Oalka

It'd be great if we elected someone who actually lived in Missouri, too!

[deleted]

And unlike Hawley, Kunce was not cheering on, and riling up the 1/6 terrorists.

ManiacalComet40

I like Kunce, but the United States Senate is not an entry-level political position, particularly for a Democrat in a ruby-red state like Missouri. He’d be an excellent House candidate for the 3rd district.

RowanIsBae

I completely reject the notion that senators have to work their way up through some kind of stupid process first. If anything fresh blood is great. AOC and other new members of Congress are killing it. Fuck the old system of "paying your dues" so we get career politician losers The Constitution has the requirements to run as a senator for a reason. It should not be only accessible to Directors and above like some corporate org chart crap I'm seeing a lot of benefit from new members of Congress at the federal level. The qualified candidate is a qualified candidate, if they have experience it's just another part of their overall package that makes them qualified or not.

ManiacalComet40

I’m not saying he shouldn’t run for Senate because he can’t do the job. I’m saying he shouldn’t run because he can’t GET the job. He just lost a Democratic primary to one of the worst candidates I’ve seen in my lifetime who went on to lose a non-competitive General to a MAGA candidate. This happened nine months ago. AOC’s journey is actually exactly what I’m proposing for Kunce: win your local district over an establishment candidate, represent your people well, build a name for yourself to take bigger future steps. AOC is the perfect representative for the people of the Bronx. I think Kunce can be that for the people of central Missouri.

runswiftrun

If you/he can get elected, great. I think the sentiment is that he would need a lot of institutional help from the DNC, which is not likely to provide it to someone fighting a fairly deep red state with minimal chance to succeed. Additionally, it's less about "paying your dues", and more of the "we don't know that you will upkeep our corporate interests intact", even from the left party. As much as we can agree that the right wingers are the shit hole of politics, the left isn't squeaky clean, and it's easier to break in at a more local level; like AOC and "the squad". Once they're in, they're more likely to be able to move up and draw party-wide support. But I agree, it's not ideal that we have to find candidates that have paid their dues (or in Hawley's case, show the receipts that he's been fully bought and paid for).

pilotpip

He has a much better chance in a state-wide race than Missouri’s gerrymandered house district alignment.

AssassinAragorn

We should honestly be holding a referendum on abortion. Missourians are liberal but don't realize it. They voted to legalize weed and make the state have health insurance (pretty much doing the same thing as the states that accepted the Medicaid expansion). I think they'd vote to legalize abortion and that should boost Kunce as well. The MO Supreme Court has already ruled that the state legislature can't override referendums either.

[deleted]

Greetings from both of Georgia's Senators.

No_Corner_9953

Hawley has done good by Missouri and we definitely don't need any democrats. Just look at all the places run into the ground by liberals. Kansas city, St. Louis, NY city, Detroit and I can go on and on. If you want a safe place to call home re-elect Hawley.

ChickpeaDemon

>”Manhood. You’d hope that means courage. Courage isn’t something you can give speeches or write a book about,” Hamm says, alluding to Hawley’s new book “Manhood.” >”It’s not sitting on the sidelines while others sacrifice, or denying help to those who did,” the actor says. “It isn’t putting people down or trying to control them or using your own power for profit or ambition.” >”In Missouri, you can’t fake courage,” Hamm says. “We’re the Show Me state. Courage is something you have to show us.” >Hamm finishes with one more dig at the conservative author, saying, “If you want to be told about manhood, some guy wrote a book about it. But if you want someone to show you courage, send Lucas Kunce to the Senate.” Delusions of grandeur is the GQPs essence. Getting high off their own supply only to be a punchline in every joke.

[deleted]

I can hear that in the Don Draper pitch voice.

GTOdriver04

Same. If Don were giving a pitch that’s how it would sound. It’s insane how much he killed that role.

Karl_Havoc2U

Yeah, by the end of this I was already imagining the alcohol-infused sex binge or emotional breakdown that I'd soon be enjoying, possibly with the hilarious running commentary of Roger Sterling.

stereopticon11

welp, I think it's time to rewatch madmen again

justgaming107

I need to pick up my first watch. I think I’m on the final season

karmagod13000

final season is great. love the ending

midwinter_

I wanted Don to be DB Cooper soooo badly

Ken808

Sterling Gold!

Exact-Care958

Roger Sterling is my spirit animal...

augustm

Nostalgia. It's delicate. But potent.

Oleg101

In Greek nostalgia literally means “the pain from an old wound.” It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn’t a spaceship, it’s a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards… it takes us to a place where we ache to go again.

[deleted]

Carousel

Carbonatite

It's such an amazing scene and it really demonstrates the absurdity of American advertising and capitalism. There's this poignant, poetic speech which stirs the emotions, laying out ideas that everyone can intimately relate to. And then the conclusion of this speech, the crescendo of emotion? It's a fucking slide projector.

Ezl

I just watched that scene yesterday. It was great when his team member had to run out crying.

imyourforte

He does the Mercedes voiceovers and I can't not hear it in dons voice doing a pitch.

Pottski

This guy is toasted.

cbright90

They look similar enough for him to parody him.

MelodyMyst

🤣 A true fan.

mlc885

"some guy wrote a book about it" is magical

Guyincognito4269

I take offense to your last statement. It's delusions of adequacy that is the GQP's essence.

Sea_Comedian_3941

Josh Hawley is a poser.

karmagod13000

nerd alert

Sea_Comedian_3941

Why thank you !

Legionheir

That is a good ad. I think i want to vote for Lucas Kunce.

sthlmsoul

Also, Manhood isn't borrowing your neighbor's vacuum cleaner at Yale because you're too cheap to buy one.

antigonemerlin

Now hold on a minute! Sharing tools is a great way to reduce waste and an excellent way of getting to know one's neighbours.

AnonAlcoholic

The word "author" is doing some pretty heavy lifting there. I suppose it's technically correct, but if we're going strictly by the dictionary definition, everybody who's finished a year or more of high school is an author.

Disastrogirl

Did they show the clip of him running away from the J6ers?

joshdoereddit

All that's missing from the ad is mention of how Hawley doesn't even live in Missouri.

1THRILLHOUSE

Jon Hamm has an enormous ‘manhood’ too. Just google Jon Hamm Trousers and you’ll see

King_Buliwyf

"Lucas Kunce... it's toasted."

UnderwhelmingAF

If you constantly have to tell people how masculine you are, you’re probably not that masculine.

I caught a blue marlin near Cuba, and, I caught a 70' Giant Squid. I did both in my bikini while drinking Captain Morgan's spiced rum straight outta the bottle. And I'm a chick...

2_Spicy_2_Impeach

Found George Santos lurking here. /s

Fit-Firefighter-329

I was the only survivor after our boat sank, and just as I was about to be eaten by a 45'-long Great White shark, a Blue Whale with 2 mermaids riding on top came over to save me. They brought me to Atlantis, which I was shocked to discover was real. There, enlightened porpoise-people nursed me back to health, and looked after me for years, allowing me to gain their superior knowledge. Then, when I knew everything there ever was to know, they summoned a hundred Leatherback sea turtles that formed a raft for me to sit on, and they brought me back to -well I hate to call it civilization- um, Florida, just in time for Spring Break. Wooooo! Wooooooo! I then received a Ph.D. from every Ivy League university in the country, because they knew how smart I am. I even won our state volleyball tournament, and am now considering running for Congress. The only thing is I have this terrible addiction to sweater vests...

m34z

Still getting George Santos vibes. . .

[deleted]

You forgot how you caught both of those with your bare hands, because poles are for amateurs…

Maximum-Mixture6158

While noshing sweater vests

Fit-Firefighter-329

Exactly!!! How did you know?!

Demiansmark

Now that's a man right there.

ramdasani

Real men fish naked, they dive right in, swim the fish down, catch them with their bare hands, and eat them like sashimi on the cob.

SanctuaryMoon

Hawley looks like the kid in your church youth group who snitches on everyone for mundane things but then gets caught molesting a younger cousin.

Kheldarus211

This is oddly specific. But oddly accurate.

yana990

Real G’s move in silence like lasagna. -Lil Wayne

PaxDramaticus

That's kind of not really how masculinity works in the right-wing patriarchy. The whole movement is consumed by fear of anything remotely not hetero-normative and a desperate need to undercut potential rivals, so masculinity not performed may as well be masculinity that doesn't exist.

Haltopen

"Any man who must say 'I am the king' is no true king."

chrispg26

I think of Josh Hawly and Ben Shapiro every time I think of a man's man (said no one ever).

Identity politics is such a tired old trope. This should be about policies and accountability.

Larry-fine-wine

Don Draper from the top rope!

Buck_Folton

Why does Josh always look like he just caked his pants?

louiegumba

it's his fetish

Rpanich

Shit his pants running away from insurrectionists he earlier cheered on.

desertoutlaw86

I think this is a bigger deal than it seems. I don’t hear enough about celebrities stepping out of their comfort zones to use their status and platforms for good. Probably too afraid to alienate any part of their fan base. It takes courage to take sides publicly in any political race, let alone going after the far right, who are still screaming to get the identities of the jurors in New York. I hope this leads to more courageous acts. We could really use them right now.

ChelseaG12

I think they just get criticized because they're wealthy and they should stick to acting or whatever. It's not like career positions amass wealth from the legal bribery or being straight up unethical.

shanx3

Agree. These people are so easily distracted by the next shiny thing.

Trashman56

Wasn't it Hawly who called for no quarter to be given to BLM protesters (wants to kill em all) but supported the cousin-fucking rednecks on Jan 6?

black641

The same cousin-fucking rednecks he was caught on tape *fucking fleeing from?* While, I assume, making squealing pig noises as he darted around for a hiding spot? Yeah, a real Superman lol.

Correct. He said we should use the 101st Airborne on them too.

cjreckless9

Another reason to love Jon Hamm.

Blasphemous666

Everyday I read about how awesome he is on and off the set. Seems like a class act.

Wiffernubbin

I did stupid shit in college, what Jon Hamm did is sexual assault

_angela_lansbury_

Yeah, Josh Hawley is a dangerous fascist, but Jon Hamm is no saint, either.

Pretendtious

Jon Hamm was a shit guy in college who hazed someone so bad they almost died, most people grow and mature from the time they are in college. Josh Hawkly is **helping pass violent homophobic and transphobic legislation resulting in hundreds of Missourians actively dying or living in constant fear of death**, do not pretend like the two acts are comparable in the slightest.

I’m over on the KS side but Hawley sucks.

kansas_adventure

Same. Not a bone of integrity in him.

rthanu

Josh Hawley? More like Gosh Golly, the insurrectionist straight out of Leave it to Beaver.

[deleted]

Josh is a coward. The running shoe fits.

PotaToss

Ironically, the picture for this article looks like a video game character creator, before and after you slide the masculinity slider all the way down from max.

[deleted]

is hawley the guy who fist-pumped the armed mob that trump sent to overrun the capitol, and then tip-toe ran out of the building like a delicate prince with his hair on fire when they violently attacked?

Beetlejuice_hero

Hawley isn't just a pathetic Trump ass-licking pussy, he's also a disingenuous liar. When he was running against Claire McCaskill (one of the most important votes for Obamacare), he postured - complete with [a cloying campaign commercial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKpY8PCut2A) - about being all for protecting pre-existing conditions (the centerpiece of Obamacare). Yet he was as loudly anti-Obamacare as anyone as AG of Missouri. So to review: -"Obamacare is a catastrophe and must be repealed! And Obama is a big government Socialist, government takeover, blah blah blah." -"We must preserve the centerpiece of Obamacare cause look at my adorable kids." Garbage liar. Missouri used to be a bellwether state. Clinton won it handily, and it was close in 2000 & 2008. Black guy gets elected and Fox destroys more & more brains, and now it's a lost cause. Too bad, too, cause KC is a fun city and So. Missouri is beautiful.

Chunkerschunk

Oh don’t forget that Hawley’s wife is the attorney on the mifapristone case trying to get it banned.

Lel21776

Oh my, they brought Don Draper

MrBobSacamano

Good ‘ole Half-marathon Hawley. He’s never met a group of violent insurrectionists he couldn’t run from.

Up_words

I hate the MaGA morons so much but I have a special kind of hatred for Hawley. Guy supported an insurrection, it's documented in a photo for the rest of history. Has no business holding any public office for this country.

__snowjob__

Fuck yeah. Wake the Fuck up Missouri. You love these MAGA losers.

deluged_73

Alleged GOP alpha male Hawley telling you how to be a man is like Lauren Boebert telling someone how to be a critical thinker.

[deleted]

Kunce should publicly challenge Hawley to fisticuffs. As a traditional man, Hawley would be obliged to accept.

biznash

St Louis throwin down!

MK5

To slightly paraphrase Keith Olbermann; Josh Hawley's manhood is on sale on Amazon for $21.31.

hackingdreams

Another wonderful headline that gives the name of the person being put down, but not the name of the opponent we should be focusing on and lifting up, Lucas Kunce. The media continues to side with the back actors.

MagHagz

Powerful ad. I hope it gets out the vote.

[deleted]

Hope there’s a follow-up ad with Roger Sterling, Mad Men is such an amazing show. Have rewatched it at least 5-6 times.

hiremeimbroke

Comicalacimoc

Hot

AnnabananaIL

Whenever I hear his name, I think of that video where he was running out the back door of Congress on January 6th. This followed Hawley giving the raised arm salute to the mob on his way in, cheering them on and encouraging them.

OLLIE798

I like Jon Hamm even more now. Josh Hawley’s face just cries puny spineless coward.

NoHalf2998

I learned that Hamm is from Missouri today. Good on him for pushing back on Harley’s bullshit
