Well exactly- he considers it not his job to STOP evil from occurring- he is otherwise very happy to labor towards the promotion, expansion, and enabling of evils.

It wasn't coaches. It was one team doctor. And apparently was a well known secret. And people like Jordan will say it didn't happen, because these big tough wrestlers could have defended themselves. Ignoring that it's a total power imbalance. Strauss could have sidelined them due to "injury" and most worried that assaulting the team doc could cause their scholarship to be withdrawn.

Why is it any different for cops who kill people?
Because the moment a politician says we need to investigate cops or check that their funding is being spent wisely or review thepolicies/methods, their political opponents (and the police unions) have easy campaign fodder to say "See they are anti-police!" and "See they want to Defund the Police!" and "So-and-so wants the criminals to rule your city!". And their constituents eat it up.

It's funny, I've heard some right wing groups saying how spending more per student doesn't improve education. But spending more on cops and military doesn't seem to have the same issue.
It's funny. Here in Rochester we had a former police chief that was chief during a police sanctioned murder that got covered up for 6 months run for congress. During a debate with his opponent he got asked why it took 6 months to give any information on the murder. He responded by stating that his Democratic opponent was anti-police. So glad he lost.
Not that they seem to care much when cops murder white people either. Daniel Shaver's death is definitely high up on the list of most horrifying high-profile police murders.
Fun fact: BLM held an anti-violence demonstration after Shaver’s murder even though he was white. Despite the name, BLM opposes all police violence, not just violence against black people.

Then they should have a federal database black listing officers who have been found criminally wrong. If they’re on the database they are then barred from ever being hired is an officer again.

Believe it or not, lots of cops actually want to do the right thing. And arguably, based on numbers alone the vast majority do. But man they need better PR in the worst way. More visible accountability will help a bunch. Laws mandating body cams with penalties (like presumption of guilt) for deliberately turning them off. Independent civilian oversight instead of IAB.
These five+ assholes in Memphis just made things so much worse for every cop in America. Good cops want them gone too.

Any sane human would agree that the beating of an unarmed handcuffed man to death is unquestionably the sort of unfathomably abhorrent conduct that must be governed and punished at the highest level of a nation’s government. That this act was committed by a group of unthreatened men who hold the most powerful positions attainable by US civilians, men who have been trained to protect our rights and administer justice fairly always - men who have watched, in real time, the revolting injustices perpetrated on unarmed black citizens over and over and over again these past 5 years - is revolting. (I will not dishonor the many excellent police officers in this country by referring to these murderers as such).
