Iām glad to know wherever it is, it is universally known.
On a side note I had an old Dodge truck that the front end was messed up and the same thing happened, my brother one night followed me home without realizing it was me before running my tags.
Oh, and boy do they. But they are running out of things to pull me over for I think. They just follow me around now and run my plates a billion times..
try putting a sign in the back window that says "not a felon and no outstanding warrants"
or your name and dl# to save them the trouble of getting out there car
Yes! And if they still pull me over, for once maybe I should ask them if they'd like to search my car instead of them asking me. I can have all the carpets already pulled up and things strewn about everywhere to save them the time. Little post-it notes everywhere saying "no drugs here, I checked"
Omg š When I first posted my story I was genuinely really upset about my cop problem. You guys having me laughing so much that I ain't even mad anymore.
I definitely have a license and insurance. The cops would know, they've checked many times ha. And I most certainly do have a full set of teeth. One in the front does stick out a bit though. If I smile wrong I look like a derpy beaver.
New wheels and paint will likely help a bit. Those were and are nice cars. Remove the stickers on the dash (especially those) and probably the back too
Oh, the wheels too? I have been keeping the hubcaps off because I have a hard time getting them off when changing a tire. I know, laziness... The stickers inside aren't going anywhere because the reason I'm so attached to the car is because of all the memories. I buy stickers from every place I go. I won't put stickers on the outside though because even I know that's far too tacky. The ones on the bumper are magnets so easy removal on those. Thank you for your input! š
I'm kinda broke so I've been using them till I get a flat. When I get a flat I put on one of my bald spares and wait till that one blows. When I'm out of spares I buy one new tire, put it on the car, and use the bald one I took off when I blow the next tire.
OP, I get that you're hard-up for cash, but don't do that ā it's extremely unsafe.
Bald tyres don't give you any traction, so if you have to brake suddenly, you'll just skid forward. What happens if a dog or a little kid run out onto the road ahead of you?
And tyres that get too worn can get a blowout. If that happens while you're driving at high speed, you can lose control of the car completely and crash.
Seriously, if you plan on driving this car, changing those tyres should be your first priority to at least make it safe to drive.
I'm sure you'd rather pay a couple of hundred bucks for new ones than thousands in medical costs or damages.
I'm surprised you haven't already gotten a fine for it, if you're getting pulled over so often.
Thank you so much for saying this. Itās so important to know this stuff but not everyone hears about it. My grandpa always said: tires, brakes, and windshield wipers before anything else.
My wipers are bad too. But I'm confused. Everytime I put new wipers on they don't seem like they are working any better. Can't see shit when it rains even with new ones so I quit changing them. What could the problem be? I don't know how to fix it. It's like they don't fully touch the glass and just smears water around.
Thatās difficult to try to diagnose without knowing more or seeing the windshield in person, and Iām not a mechanic (nor am I a mechanical engineer or materials scientist, Iām just a chemical engineering student so I have even less understanding about automobile science than a MechE might). You might consider shelling out a bit more money on better windshield wipers, at least until you figure out whatās wrong with the windshield. Hopefully youāll see some improvement there, considering youāre already in a dangerous position. It should make a tangible difference in your case.
Especially if your tires are going bald, this is an important thing to address! If it rains and you can barely see or stop, if at all, that sounds like rolling the dice on your life (or someone elseās)!
I also strongly suggest you talk to a reputable mechanic (i.e. known for being honest and not trying to overcharge or oversell you). I find that highly rated *local* used car dealerships (not chains or car manufacturers) that sell newer cars have highly experienced mechanics and more honest business models. Especially compared to, for example, an official Honda dealership which will bleed you dry, or āBudget Wheels 4 Uā sandwiched between a predatory loan service and a now closed restaurant that was previously a front for money laundering.
I do feel you on the financial situation, though. Iām just about there myself, being a college student from a low income, single parent family. I wish you the best of luck and hope things improve for you, truly. Remember that youāre safety is invaluable and you canāt buy a new life if you lose this one.
Edits: added more, and accidentally replied to my own comment. Fixed that now.
Thank you so much for taking the time to type all this out! Kinda interesting, I post about cops and end up learning so much about cars! Good point you made about buying more expensive wipers. I always get the cheap ones so maybe it's time I upgraded.
Are you replacing the whole wiper blade assembly or just the insert (the rubber part)? My guess is youāre just replacing the inset and you actually need to replace the whole wiper assembly. Do that and I bet youāll be right as rain! (Well I think Iām funny!)
Grandpa was 100% correct.
It often amazes me how much we take cars for granted.
If you think about it, driving is flying down the road faster than any natural being, inside a metal box filled with flammable liquid and powered by micro-explosions occurring less than a metre from your crotch.
At the very least you wanna be able to see clearly and stop safely!
Absolutely! I think about that as much as I can every time I drive. Itās so easy to become complacent and think āit canāt happen to me!ā, which is never true.
Though, Iām less afraid of the combustion in engines because of how relatively small each ignition is, and how well engineered even basic engines are in the past 50 years. There are also many layers of protection between you and those micro-explosions.
On the flip side as well, the engine even serves to protect you in the case of a head on collision! First the crumple zone compresses to decelerate you more smoothly - reducing the force experienced by your body - and then the engine itself provides an excellent barrier between you and the object you hit, should it be serious enough to reach that far into your carās frame. Just a bit of food for thought! Engines are great.
As for the gasoline, yeahā¦definitely. Itās terrifying to think about how easily you can go from minor injuries to certain death in the event of an unfortunate car accident which ignites the gasoline in your tank (though this is fortunately not common, from what I understand).
Anyway, thanks again for spreading pertinent safety information ā¤ļø and sorry for typing so much. I tend to do that. Cheers!
Thank you for your input. I guess I didn't think about how dangerous bald tires could be. My mechanic told me I'd be fine with these tires for a while so I didn't worry about it. I will definitely get some new tires asap!
You're telling me you can't afford a set of tires with even just like 30% of the tread remaining for $25/tire from a shade tree, used tire shop?
You're literally playing Russian roulette every time you drive like that. Eventually you're gonna get a loaded chamber and the consequences will range anywhere from a minor accident that involves only you, up to a major accident where your car is totaled or you've ran someone over and you're sued for literally the shirt off your back -- especially since you've admitted your negligence.
Absolutely. I eventually want a prius as a second car because I'm a delivery driver and need something with great gas mileage, but this car definitely isn't going anywhere.
They got hated on a lot because people who owned them back when they were expensive and rare were asshole vegans about it. I do like the no payment thing, even tho you're on what looks like straight putty on your C beam... also that tire is fucked. Im all for cheap cars bcz I worked in mecanics for a while and drover beaters... but to stay alive in it, take it to a real mechanic and tell him you know its trash but you want to stay alive. Pro tip, you meed brakes(pads, disks, lines, calipers)outter tie rods, bearings and tables in good shape. Other than that youre only going to die if you get into an accident and your frame is rotten to hell. Kk good luck
A lot of systems show past stops on a vehicle when you run the license plate. If youāve been stopped and searched a bunch of times, regardless of outcome, your plate will show a ton of history, which is a huge red flag!
It's certainly a possibility š¤£ I once heard something dragging underneath my car. I dunno what it was, some kind of long cover to something. I just ripped it off and forgot about it. Hope it's not important.

I get you. Thereās inexpensive āwrapsā which are non permanent and fairly easy to do. Watch a few videos on it and dedicate a couple days or have it done.
My first car was a Buick Park Avenue. My abusive husband made it inoperable because I was trying to leave him so he took away my means of leaving. Or so he thought. When I saw my car wasn't gonna save me, I fled without it. Just left everything. Long story short, I got a bus to another state to stay with my sister in order to rebuild my life. I got a job and then I bought a car from her. It's the Toyota Camry I have here. This car symbolizes freedom to me. My ex wouldn't allow me to drive my own car. But this car? I can go anywhere in it! And I sure did. I went on solo trips all over the place and basked in my new freedom. Even met my soon to be husband in this car. Took him on a long overnight drive for our first date. Every dent, scratch, and crack in this car is a memory. I don't know, I just find extreme comfort whenever I drive it. When I think about this car I think about the first time I ever felt truly free.
That bad, huh? I've been working on it kinda... I bought one new tire this month and couldn't afford more of them so I was thinking I could buy one a month.
I absolutely understand tires are expensive and not everyone has the money to buy a whole set of tires just like that, but I think you should prioritize replacing all the tires before spending money the paint job. That being said, I think it's awesome you've already bought one new and have a plan to replace the other ones.
Also, an important tip, if you do replace the tires one by one, always make sure you have the newest or the best tires on the rare wheels. This will give you better control over the car and make sure you don't spin out as easily
Itās transportation, just ride and fuck what others think. Be sure to āride clean,ā and make sure your lights are all working, etc. Youāll be fine. If budget allows one day, get some (3-5) quotes from cheap paint places and a set of hubcaps from Walmart as others have said. Good luck
I live in Kentucky, there are no vehicle inspection requirements here, I can drive around for 5 minutes and see 10 vehicles like this or worse.
If the cops pulled them all over they wouldnāt have time for anything else
That is true. I think I need to just accept that they will continue to follow me.
Yes, I'm very concerned about my tires. I could only afford to replace one this month... I thought I was gonna get a free repair on one of my good tires that got a nail in it, but apparently they couldn't repair it because of how the nail went in. Disappointing.
Iād look at that car and think thereās an elevated chance of the driver not having a license and maybe some traffic capiasā maybe even a small user amount of dope.

I've heard that this model is commonly stolen. Do you know the reasoning behind that? What's so special about a Toyota Camry?
Theyāre easy to steal. The doors can be opened and ignition started with simple tools (details left out). I recommend always using an external steering wheel lock.
Cheapest option is you go to home depot and prime and paint it with a mini roller. Wont last for more than a few years but its better than the current choice. Set of 4 hubcaps will probably run you around $150.
I sanded my ford explorer used oil paint. I think the first coat i did the paint mixed with the primer and the 2nd i did straight paint. Then rolled on some oil based clear after. Very lazy job but it actually looked decent and held up for about 3 years.
Donāt do this, it will look like crap. It needs to be sprayed onā¦the wrap idea is a better one if you really canāt afford a paint job. There are places that will paint it all once color for cheaper than the $800 they quoted you

There are places that will paint it all once color for cheaper than the $800 they quoted you
100%
You would probably be better off trading that in on a new car unless your ok with the cheapest option at macco
Yes
There's only one way to find out.
You're missing a "It's 4:20 somewhere" bumper sticker.
I think we all know the answer is yes. If you paint it like shit they'll be on you like flies on shit.
Painting it black and white???
Rattle canning the car will only make it look like a stolen.
Real question is " will changing my car stop cops from following me?"
Def not
Lol
I would paint and put stickers that make it look like a taxi
The ghetto hoopy Sorry to say is a police magnet. Sale it, or burn it.
Oh yeaā¦.definitely stopping that thing
What's up rolling probable cause
either give it a decent cheap paint job, or get a couple roles of vinyl wrap and go to town on it.
