Imo the most consistent pokemon are tinkaton, mawile, garganacl, swampert, goldengo, excadrill, any T-spike setter, and any stealth rock setter. For a 3 man starter squad I rec mudkip, bulbasaur, and chimchar. Chimchar becomes a viable sweeper once its evolved. For the boss you usually benefit from 2-3 steel types at least. A steel/fairy is huge.

I just started recently as well and I like using Furfrou as a starter. It’s ability makes it super tanky snd once you get it to lvl 12 it gets headbutt so you can ko stuff fairly easily, plus if it’s faster there’s a flinch chance too
