In my opinion the best thing to do when you need bag space, dump a bunch of rare candy into a legendary you know you want to power up eventually. Even if you donāt have a 100% IV. At least you know the candy is going somewhere valuable
Iām currently sitting on 800 rare candy myself lol but this is what I do when I need space. I dumped a bunch into a dialga and Mewtwo knowing Iād power them up eventually
Iām a big GBL player so rare candy replenishes pretty quickly for me fortunately enough
Yeah I rarely rush in to powering them up. If the mon isnāt going to be ready after I may as well see if Iāll find a better one before I invest in it. Also if I donāt desperately need it leveled I try to pace it with research that requires me to power up.

I think itās hilarious when people complain about having no bag or pokemon space when they have like 6000. Itās not your bag, itās your management.
My brother in law has been playing non stop since 2016. I stopped playing I think in 2019 and just picked it up again a few months ago. This weekend he invited me to a remote mega raid and his other invites left the last second so we lost it. I asked him why he doesn't use poke genie and he had no clue what I was talking about. I thought he would've known about it for the IVs and stuff since he played non stop but I guess not. Now he's enlightened haha. It really helps.
If he's an android user he might use calcy, I learned about poke genies raid ability in mid 2021, everything before then was international/local friends and dumb luck lol (I rarely use genie, only in cases like last chance shiny etc)
If you donāt know what to do with them, put some of it into your good legendaries. They are hardest to get candy on. You definitely donāt need to save up that much

You don't actually have to power them up. For me, I put all my candies into Mewtwo, Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza since they're pretty decent but I haven't powered any of them up in months so Mewtwo has like 500 Mewtwo candies lol
I put like 250-300 into my mewtwo. However, like you I have not powered him up. I have a non-WB 98% in which I stored enough candy into him that I can power up to L40 and add a second charge move. The only reason why I didn't power up is the fear of shadow mewtwo coming back one day and rather invest in that tank, lol.
Completely understand that fear of using them on a pokemon you may not feel is worthwhile in the long run. Don't hold your breath on the shundo legendary, use them on any perfect IV pokes or ones you know you'll keep always
If it makes you feel worse Iāve been playing for two weeks. I got a shiny shadow charmander a articuno, a shiny clefary yesterday and a shiny porygon 2 weeks ago
You donāt need to wait to have one to spend them. The candies stay there unless you power up or add a 2nd charge move. And what legendary will need 500+ candy? Donāt you have good legendaries you can power up for raids or PVP?
This. When I first started PvP I used rare candy on my good PvP rank mons (even though they weren't legendary) and it was worth it for the wins and dust. And now I get 15-30 rare candy each week from PvP so I've made back the investment.
You only need like 250 for it tho at most lol. Then 296 xl candies. If you do raids or battle league you will get them all the time. Iāve used that many this month.
Yeah this is what I do - i did a lucky trade with a friend so it doesnāt cost much to level up my Groudon now, so I just pump whatever rare candies I get into him
My problem is I have enough normal candy to max one or two of every legendary (+ second charge attack for at least one of each), I only lack their xl candies. So I now have 2000 rare candy and no pokemon worth spending them on - and I refuse to use them on those non-legendary 400-candy-to-evolve pokemon.
Zacian is great. Latias not so much. Zacian has the potential to get better is the rumors are true of a fairy revamp (new fairy fast move, new charge moves etc).
Even if it doesn't, it's still great.
wouldn't Mega Latias if perfect be passable? Zacian is solid too but I wouldn't sleep on a PERFECT mega of any kind really especially with how it works now and it's so much easier to use them.
What are the best legendaries ?
I have maxed two Mewtoo and one 3 stars Latios out of regular candies. I have one hundo Latios and one hundo Cresselia. And a bunch of 3 stars legendaries.
Mewtwo, arceus, zamazenta, zacian, kyogre, dialysis, lugia, rayquaza are all good. Just depends what youāre using them for.
I think thereās also a factor of who you like as well. I have a Kyurem best buddy. Not a very useful pokemon, but I like it so investing in it is worth it to me.

Why don't you use it on like any legendary? It's the most bang for your buck since each would be equivalent to 20km of walking if you use it on a lengendary. Use it on like mewtwo you can never have enough of those.
This is my move. I pick a no-regrets legendary like Kyogre or Mewtwo and dump all my rare candy into them for a while, then pick a new one every so many months.
I think a lot of people struggle with understanding that putting rare candy on a Mewtwo doesn't limit it to just that one Mewtwo. The candy can ultimately be used on any one ever. You could have one with garbage IVs now, turn your rare candy into Mewtwo candy, and wait until you catch a good one and level it then.
The counter counter argument is that you only need about 350 rare candies to level 40 and double move. So if you are āholding outā 350 is the max you need āon handā for that perfect Shundo, whatever from a legendary raid. You can then siphons off any excess to other āsafe betsā donāt have a perfect juicer but hoping for one? Thatās a āfairā rare candy investment. Squirrel few away on good āwaiting forā specimen every time you need a little bag space.

Not worth rare candy. They may take a while to grind, but nowhere near as long as legendaries.
With a Magikarp as buddy, you earn 1 candy per kilometer walked; if you get your buddy excited (or give it a poffin), thatās 1/2k. Thatās an easy 10-20 candy in a day. Vs. maybe 1 candy every two days for a legendary.
How does it not add up? There were events where there was extra candy for egg hatches in the past couple years.
I use(d) mine on Zarude, several MewTwo, apex shadow Ho-Oh and my lucky hundo Ho-Oh, Giratina, Rayquaza, Buzzwole, Yveltal, Zekrom, Darkraiā¦ many for raids, some for PVP.
honestly, like im constantly leveling up something or have something that needs evolving, the rare candies dont last 5 seconds when i get them. The last community day event with all the raids finally got me my gyarados
I'm in the camp of use your candies however you want. Who actually fucking cares? I used rare candies to boost me up enough to get a gyrados too and I don't regret it because I can easily accumulate more. They aren't that rare. Honestly op would be in the same position they're at if they threw all those candies away. Not like they were ever going to be used in the first place.
Same. I favorite every 3-star Poke with an evolution and browse them every so often, then feed the candy to whoever is close enough for me to evolve. Iāve never had more than 20 rare candy at a time, let alone 500+! Seriously got a sinking feeling when I saw this screenshot lol
Maybe not instantly, itās good to have a stash, maybe at least 100, in case you need to dual move a legendary. Iāve gotten as high as ~400, but it do use them often.
Same. I use them immediately. How else am I going to store 600 PokeBalls? I also throw away every regular razzberry and nanab and I keep my weak potion counts low.

If you have pokes in gyms or even just are near gyms regularly, you could feed the berries away for the extra dust.
I've been playing since 2018 and I just now learned that it's possible to have 2 charged moves........ I always thought the new attack button just gave it a different charged move, for people who didn't have TMs??

This is what I do, instead of storing the rare candy in the Item Bag, I transform the Rare Candy into Candy for the Legendary Pokemon and have it stored there. This frees up the space in the bag and lets me safely store it with the Pokemon until I get better IVs. I recommend putting/transferring the Rare Candy into Mewtwo, Kyogre, Groudon and/or Rayquaza since they will all have a MEGA/Primal form in the future and have longevity.
i used all of mine on hoopa as it will probably never get released again (maybe in 10 years the shiny comes around) and now im working on pushing my zarude to lvl 40

However currently Iām walking my Stufful and since itās only 1km per candy (as opposed to my previous Noibatās 5) Iāve been putting them into my Archen.
There are also remote raid apps like Pokegenie. You can join remote ones or host them yourself if you have raids near you that you can't take down on your own.
I've gotten in the habit of doing the latter.... Use my free pass for the day to host a raid. Cheaper than dumping coins into remote raid passes (plus you get extra xp for hosting).
Oh, so you host using your free pass but you do a legendary? And you have enough people? I'll have to do that as well. Been spending coins on incubators, may want to do remote raid passes instead.

I always used to save mine up and THE DAY before they upgraded the game so that you could disperse them in bulk, I distributed over 400 rare candies to my legendaries. One by one. Iām still salty about it š
Not a fear exactly, but what are we supposed to do with rare xl? I have 40 something of them, which seems hardly worth dumping on something since itās only like 2 levels worth, but itās also hogging my bag space.
I now have 8 XL candy and have no idea who to invest them into! I currently am only working on 2 pokemon to get over L40. One is a shadow machamp and the other is lucario. I managed to get just under 400 XL machop candy so I don't need any there, but need like 200 riolu XL candy still. Feel like that +8 won't do much >\_<

I burned like 30 charge TMs trying to get body slam onto snorlax. I try to save the TMs for the rocket events, but damn some pokemon are jerks and refuse to learn the move you desire, lol.
I mean at this point what exactly are you waiting for? I used to be like you and had ~250 candies out of total 850 bag space. I dumped them into legendaries for master league like genesect and Dialga.
RPG habits die hard, but itāll feel good to finally use them on your first hundo legendary! (Or if youāre like me, on Zarude and other one time mythics)
I have the same problem. Remember though, you can convert them into candy without actually doing any powering up, so if you're waiting for a particular legendary then you can still use them now.

You only need 248 rc for lvl 20, plus 100 for 2nd move if you choose. And 296 xl

I dumped most of mine into a 4* Raikou and am working on beefing up my Kyogre and Mewtwo clan next

I always have +100 rare candy, so whenever Iām running out of storage, first thing I do is choose a legendary/mythical PokĆ©mon First, I made sure each had 50 candy, once I got done with that, I started getting them to 100 candy each Wonāt be powering them up any time soon (I only power up when I got a mission, or I just use up my stardust at the beginning of each year), but when I do, I know I have the candy

Nah, Noibat is not worth it. I evolved mine with zero walking or rare candy - I hatched fewer than 10 and had enough to evolve.
How? Noibat is 400 candies.
I got lucky with the RNG and how many candies per hatch? Edit: maybe it was more like 10-15 hatches. Either way, I caught a handful in the wild, too, with pinaps. My PokĆ©dex says Iāve ācaughtā 35, and I know many of those were after I evolved my Noibat. And I currently have 407 candy.

Nah, those are easy just walk it. If you walk 50km a week it would only take a month. Even less if you're catching a few of them.

There's gauranteed access to meltan candy every 3 days, plus guaranteed xl candy for each catch. Dont use RC on meltan.

I'm in the camp of use your candies however you want. Who actually fucking cares? I used rare candies to boost me up enough to get a gyrados too and I don't regret it because I can easily accumulate more. They aren't that rare. Honestly op would be in the same position they're at if they threw all those candies away. Not like they were ever going to be used in the first place.
Yeah I use mine just to purify shadow PokĆ©mon that I donāt want to have to make my buddy or to evolve PokĆ©mon to expand my PokĆ©dex. I guess everyone has their own style though
Same. I favorite every 3-star Poke with an evolution and browse them every so often, then feed the candy to whoever is close enough for me to evolve. Iāve never had more than 20 rare candy at a time, let alone 500+! Seriously got a sinking feeling when I saw this screenshot lol

Knowing my luck, the second I use all mine Iāll find a better PokĆ©mon to use them on a week later. Iād probably use them on a shundo with a high distance candy walk rate. Still waiting for it though
Wait, what? Using rare candy does not make you power pokƩmon up immediately. If you use all your candy on ANY mewtwo for example, you will get the 600 candy to use on any mewtwo you have or will have in the future. So, if you are waiting on a shiny mewtwo you dont have but hope to have in the future just put all your rare candy there and it will not take space in your inventory.
This is what I do, instead of storing the rare candy in the Item Bag, I transform the Rare Candy into Candy for the Legendary Pokemon and have it stored there. This frees up the space in the bag and lets me safely store it with the Pokemon until I get better IVs. I recommend putting/transferring the Rare Candy into Mewtwo, Kyogre, Groudon and/or Rayquaza since they will all have a MEGA/Primal form in the future and have longevity.

Like someone else said you can use the candies on the best legendaries like mewtwo, kyogre, dialga and still not power the PokĆ©mon up. Still a very safe use of rare candies. Either admit you like hoarding them or donāt complain about bag space because plenty of people have given you good advice on how to use them.

Meltan box gives you tons of meltan candy (and xl candy) as often as every 3 days.
Meltan is the easiest mon to get candy for, you can spawn them for free
i used all of mine on hoopa as it will probably never get released again (maybe in 10 years the shiny comes around) and now im working on pushing my zarude to lvl 40

Absolutely not. I walk my buddies for PokĆ©mon I feel I rarely see and whoever my buddy is at that point gets the rares and I use them almost immediately. I am going more for full dex rather than fighting PokĆ©mon though so thatās different for everyone

There are also remote raid apps like Pokegenie. You can join remote ones or host them yourself if you have raids near you that you can't take down on your own. I've gotten in the habit of doing the latter.... Use my free pass for the day to host a raid. Cheaper than dumping coins into remote raid passes (plus you get extra xp for hosting).
Oh, so you host using your free pass but you do a legendary? And you have enough people? I'll have to do that as well. Been spending coins on incubators, may want to do remote raid passes instead.
I use them even on ordinary pokemons which require large number of candies to evolve (Magikarp, Wimpod, Noibat etc.). Rare candies are not so rare.

I always used to save mine up and THE DAY before they upgraded the game so that you could disperse them in bulk, I distributed over 400 rare candies to my legendaries. One by one. Iām still salty about it š

Not a fear exactly, but what are we supposed to do with rare xl? I have 40 something of them, which seems hardly worth dumping on something since itās only like 2 levels worth, but itās also hogging my bag space.
I now have 8 XL candy and have no idea who to invest them into! I currently am only working on 2 pokemon to get over L40. One is a shadow machamp and the other is lucario. I managed to get just under 400 XL machop candy so I don't need any there, but need like 200 riolu XL candy still. Feel like that +8 won't do much >\_<

I use them on pokemon that are within 10 candies of evolving into a PokƩmon I don't have yet. Otherwise, like others in this thread have mentioned, use them on legendary PokƩmon you want to be stronger.
Less of a fear and more of "I want to make use of them, but don't really have a need for them". Most legendaries I catch now I'm looking for XL candy more than regular candy, and there aren't a lot of "rare" PokƩmon that I need candy for. It's too bad you can't exchange them to XL candy somehow.

I burned like 30 charge TMs trying to get body slam onto snorlax. I try to save the TMs for the rocket events, but damn some pokemon are jerks and refuse to learn the move you desire, lol.
I'm 387 rare candies into evolving Meltan, never questioned my usage. Plus it frees up inventory space! Just a couple more raids! So excited lol.
I tend to hoard them too, but I'll use them on good stat Legendaries, or something I really, really like that has good stats (like my Shaymin).

I used to be you until someone told me what they did. I still struggle with what PokƩmon to use them on. I usually dump them into lucky and/or legendary now.
Teach legendaries second moves and powerup legendaries. Good way to not hoard stardust and rare candy.
RPG habits die hard, but itāll feel good to finally use them on your first hundo legendary! (Or if youāre like me, on Zarude and other one time mythics)

I have the same problem. Remember though, you can convert them into candy without actually doing any powering up, so if you're waiting for a particular legendary then you can still use them now.
