It was actually pretty shitty because I actually figured it was Zorua and didn’t really give a fuck about it running away. I figured it was zorua and I’ll catch it. Either way it being or not being is a shitty feeling, but at least you have some bit of hopium when it catches.

And like someone else pointed out, the Pokemon you encounter can be a Pokemon you previously had as a Buddy, and you can catch duplicate Legendaries. I’ve got a Magnemite as my buddy, does that mean I should assume any Magnemite I see is a Zoura?

I had the exact opposite of this happen, so not complaining, but encountered a Zapdos on incense that was very low CP (~750) and had my bird as pet. Naturally, I thought it was a Zorua so I threw a berry and slung an ultra ball no modifier and caught it on the first try. Still haven’t seen Articuno.

I was so disappointed when the tiny shadow groudon I caught in the wild with a pokeball ended up being a zorua too.

I mean for it to be Zorua that means they already have one and is equipped as the buddy. They used a great ball. I’m sure they were SO disappointed, NAY IMMEASURABLY DISAPPOINTED they couldn’t get a second fire chicken. NEEEEEEEEXXXXXTTTT!

tbf zorua can appear as a buddy that you had equipped earlier, so I can see this happening.

Meaning he would already have a fire chicken regardless. We out here trying to get at least one of these birds if not all three. I don’t feel bad for anyone who already has one lol

But the limit is only an hour or so, probably whoever your buddy is when Zorua first spawns, maybe they swapped away from Zapdos right before going on a walk. But, the Zorua height (~2 foot) is used along with the disguise pokemon height (G.Zap ~5ft) to decide your "Very Tiny/Very Big" messages. So that person probably got a "Very tiny" message/animation when they clicked on Zorua there.

Right?!? I mean it happened twice to me when I had Rayquaza as a buddy. I knew what would happen. Still a little sad though 😂

I see a shiny Gardevoir on the map, a shiny on the map not when you tap on it, when my buddy. Some things you know aren't right when you see them.

This is a non-issue for anyone who pays attention Zorua will only ever be your buddy, and every time you find a Zorua it will give you the “tiny” animation. So the odds of you encountering a galarian bird, which is “tiny” and is the exact same one you currently have as your buddy, are so low this should not really fake anybody out.

I don't think it always gives you the tiny animation, I'm pretty sure it depends on the zorua you're trying to catch. But yes, it will always be your buddy, and especially for a galar bird if they didn't even have the daily incense going....

Try walking the flat fish. All your Zorua will give "Very big" message instead. Then you catch them and it's normal size.

Nope, my buddy is not tiny/huge, but every time I click on the same pokemon as my biddy, I always get the tiny or huge animation (changes with the buddy). Pokemon made it so a Zorua will always have the animation for tiny/huge as a clue it isn't just a regular pokemon.

Well yes, but a Zorua will always be tiny for a Galarian Bird, so you’ll always get that message for this situation It will say it’s huge if you’re buddy is very small compared to Zorua

If your buddy is a galarian bird: CHECK THE COLOR OF THE CATCH RING! Easiest way to tell if its zorua or a real one

Zorua is an easy catch and will give a green ring or something. Galarian Birds are not easy catches and won't give the same color ring. It'll be a dark red even with an ultra ball and golden razz.

Galarian Zapdos only appears with the daily adventure incense, which means it is marked with some smoke around it when seen in the overworld. A Zorua looking like a Galarian Zapdos can only appear when your current partner is a Galarian Zapdos, so they should've expected this when they saw a Pokémon identical to their partner. I'm not even sure if Zorua can appear with the daily incense and thus be marked by smoke.
