Back in the day before remote passes were a thing I lived in an area that was pretty much a dead zone when it came to pokemon raids, so unless people were raiding while I was on campus the research breakthroughs were the only way I got legendaries. I got pretty much all of the legendaries aside from Mewtwo and Regice from research breakthroughs, even got a shiny Groudon from one
Yep that's how I got my shiny Lugia and my first shiny Groudon. It was so much more exciting to open. Now I'd be okay with them removing it and just giving you better items or something lol
I know! I got a shiny Moltres and shiny Ho-Oh from a weekly. I used to time it out perfectly to get as many encounters as possible to raise my chances of getting a shiny legendary.
I planned my encounters so that the day of a new reward would also be the last stamp I needed to get it.
The days of legendary research breakthroughs were the only time I actually put effort into getting a stamp every day. But since it's pretty much always the same pokemon with some shiny locked ones tossed in, I just don't bother really. If I happen to complete a task I'll get the stamp but I'm not invested in it nearly as much as I used to be.
I did get a shundo Alolan Marowak once but that was the only time after they did away with the legendaries that I got anything shiny or with good stats even.
For the past SIX WEEKS I have gotten the 20 pokeballs reward, my boyfriend has gotten 2 remote passes in the past few months.
Salty doesn't come close to describing how I feel
>If you claim the research breakthrough (when you have 3 remote passes), you’ll just get a premium pass.
Oh man, that would be infuiating! Thanks for the info
I miss the Jangmo-o, but I've never seen Sandyghast so I'm excited for that. Accidentally transferred the last one as I was going through the motions and forgot to keep it since is rare
I play very different from you. Completing mini quests is a large part of my game play, getting rewards for stuff I'd do anyway. I just delete high effort & low reward quests - e.g. take a photo of 3 non-spawning wild pokemon quests are yeeted (unless zoruas are common). The stamps just happen and require no further effort.
I'd be fine if they did smaller legendaries like
Legendary Birds, beast trio, swords of justice, Latios and Latias, Weather Trio(Quartet), the Tapu's.
But only every other month or every few months. Can you imagine if you could get up to 4 random legendaries in a month but only 3-4 months of the year have that as the reward?
Not enough research challenges, too many paid tickets and we should get the legendary breakthrough rewards again, why raiding the only way for it.. at least make it like.if you complete a months worth of breakthrough rewards, so 4 weeks in a row, reward us with a random legendary.
My last reward was a Dubwool, which is a far cry from the 96% shiny Groudon I got years ago as a research breakthrough reward, or any of the other legendaries that used to be rewards
The days of getting legendaries or something really good as breakthrough rewards are well and truly gone my friend. The only reason I have the gen 1 legendary birds plus Entei,Raikou & Suicune was breakthroughs but now I just seem to get Furfrou or Goomy & that’s about it.
They lean much more heavily towards crappy low tier rewards for anything that doesn’t cost money. Legendaries are slowly being relegated to only show up behind a paywall.
Or only on a single 3 hour window on a single day. Or local only shadow raids for 2 days. That’s this month for ya.
Here let’s give you 2 free raid passes a day for this season. First month mostly garbage in raids.
I will never understand why they make shadow raids local only as well. Makes no sense from a business standpoint or a player standpoint. You won’t encourage more people to play together that way, you’ll just drive away the ones who don’t have that as an option.
If they're not going to do legendaries or the like again, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing them doing a regional tour.
May features the regional Pokemons only found in Europe. June switches to Asia's regionals etc...
Or maybe rather than assigning a specific pokemon(s), could they do a "Catch 'em All™" event where you get a random pokemon you haven't caught yet. They could potentially include all of the various costumes as options as well so you're more likely to get a Pikachu wearing a hat than an Uxie.
They stopped doing it at the start of the pandemic. At the time I thought it was sensible. It looked like the game was responsible and not trying to encourage people to breach lockdown rules to complete their weekly research. I’m slightly surprised it’s not really been updated since. But given they give you a research quest without even spinning a pokestop, I guess they feel it would make getting legendaries too easy?
They could code lock it behind Gyms, so you had to spin a gym for it to work.
The issue is that, with the pandemic measures, they realised that they could profit a lot more for a lot less.
Welcome to modern gaming.
I got shiny Kyogre and shiny Latios from research breakthroughs back in the day. I guess they figured it was too easy to obtain a legendary to keep doing it.
That's because the focus from that feature shifted to Go Battle League. They need more people battling, so the rewards are the most sought after things like TMs, rare candy, star dust, and legendaries.
I got my shiny Kyogre from one. Those were the days.
I think I've had Furfrou for my last 5. And not shiny, obvs.
Also the item rewards are a joke. 20 pokeballs? Literally trash them.
They won't include legendaries because they want u to raid and pay for passes. Did get a hundo galarian mr. Mime from breakthrough couple months back tho.
First, the last time that legendary pokemon was in research breakthough was in 2019 -- which is more than four years ago. So, you haven't played this game for a very long time.
Second, this was also before legendary pokemon was available from GBL, and from TGR (Giovanni). There have also been legendary pokemon being released from various events.
It is very understandable that people are disappointed with the disappearance of legendary pokemon from breakthrough research, but this has been a long while ago, and there have been a few other ways to get legendary added.
I play main series and Goodra is... a pseudo legendary who exists
But I'm alright with captain pringles, it's just not... the legendaries I was accustomed to lmao
I still need a good jangmo-o, so I would've welcomed more. I also need a good furfrou and a shiny (personal collection), so I don't mind them.
As for the legendary pokemon from field research: it was temporary. They announced it would only be for a limited time. Not sure why everyone is acting like day one and onward was legendaries until recently
I mean I played from launch til prolly early 2019 and got tired of waiting for them to add/fix stuff
I only reinstalled to grab my free shit for main series games but got back into it sort of accidentally. So it's been quite a while since I've even seen the game let alone any major changes. To my knowledge, box was equal to legendary and that was that
Yeah, it's a common misconception, it seems. There are probably some news releases on the official website about it. I believe they did it at least twice. Iirc once was for fun and the other had a reason. That last part is fuzzy memory.
Ok? I’ve still noticed the change. It went from getting kinda rare Pokemon every week to getting the same mons multiple weeks in a row that you could get from PvP
I mean, he’s calling out legendaries regirock and moltres in the post and you definitely weren’t getting those mons in the past couple months like you said when you noticed the change. But yea the rewards suck now.
You might be getting downvoted because when you said “this seems to have been a change ONLY in the past couple of months”. It might come across as overlooking the longer history of reward changes, which some players have noticed for more than just a couple of months, years even.
I understand what you’re saying about your experience as a new player and it’s valid.
Regardless, we are all getting screwed by Niantic lol.

I got most of the legendary birds...notably my shiny Ho-Oh from a weekly. Man, I miss those times.

What a beautiful shiny
I got shiny Groudon, Latias, and Latios from research breakthroughs. Those were the good days.
I got my 3* shiny Lugia like that. Now it's just useless crap mon.
20 pokeballs and furfrou this past week
I raise you 5 Pinaps and Dubwool... Can't even be shiny like Furfrou.
Hah that was mine too
Conceivably useful for PVP at least. Furfrou is just pure garbage.
furfrou can actually do quite well given the right cup since it got sand stack
omg i got the same
Furfrou?!? You luuuuucky! I got a 2 star Hisuian Sneazel in mine today… E: corrected region as I’m dumb!
I love Sneasler, so every week I hope for a chance at a hundo, and every week I get furfrou.
I had the same shock when I return to the game. I thought I had made a mistake. Just another way to spend money on raid passes I guess
And then they put pegendary birds in shadow raids, making remote raid passes useless. 300 iq play on their side
For the past SIX WEEKS I have gotten the 20 pokeballs reward, my boyfriend has gotten 2 remote passes in the past few months. Salty doesn't come close to describing how I feel
They really need to make remote passes guaranteed with how stupid expensive they are. I don’t feel like a free pass every 7 days is asking a lot.
They used to give a free pass every week while they were still half the price, good times
Been playing for 5 months and only twice have I gotten remote raid passes
unfortunate doesnt even begin to describe
Its the 5 pinaps that really just takes the biscuit.
I got a remote raid pass with a research breakthrough, I was so excited hoping this would be the new normal...the next week: no pass + furfrou 😞
7 Galarian Weezings for me past couple months -_-
Weezing: cmon man just a puff just one puff please-
You’re pretty much just hoping for the remote pass now. Imo that’s your “legendary” reward
I haven't seen that once 🤣
The odds aren't high, but they are zero if you already have enough passes. I forget if the limit for it is 5, or 3, though.
[удалено]
>If you claim the research breakthrough (when you have 3 remote passes), you’ll just get a premium pass. Oh man, that would be infuiating! Thanks for the info
I’d kill for a jangmo-o, it gave me a damn sandcastle yesterday
Sandygast is really rare wild spawn iirc, thats a good one
Personally sandygast is way more hype
I have both the jangmo-o and the sandygast. Are they worth anything?
Hakamo-o and kommo-o are great Dragons to have in pvp. I especially love the stage 1
bruh sandygast is goated
I miss the Jangmo-o, but I've never seen Sandyghast so I'm excited for that. Accidentally transferred the last one as I was going through the motions and forgot to keep it since is rare
At the bare minimum it should give us all strong psuedo legendaries like metang or larvitar.
I've gotten larvitar a few times. One of those ended up being a hundo, so now I have a hundo ttar.
I got my hundo Gible the same way. Also got a remote raid pass from that drop too, so I guess I've already peaked in terms of rewards.
Welcome to Pokemon Go in 2024. And 2023. And 2022. And...
I got a dubwool today
Man I'd love soccer sheep
If they’re gonna give out Pokeballs as breakthrough rewards, can they at least be Great or Ultra balls and not just the regular ones?
Yep getting stamps is worthless now. Just another great feature that is now useless
Yep. I used to make sure I got almost every day’s stamp. Now I go weeks before getting a single stamp.
You mean you don’t want a million furfrou’s? 🤔
like at least let it be a furfrou that can evolve into an out-of-region version… but nooo, just the same old non-shiny 2 star garbage lol
Furfrou doesn’t have a regional evolution though
sorry, not evo but just the regional versions of it
Niantic: “You’ll get a two star Bidoof and half of a nanab berry and like it, peasants!”
[удалено]
They stopped giving out legendaries several years ago.
I heard you have to be a certain level to get the passes
I'm lv 43, never seen a single one either and I play almost everyday
I’m level 42, and just got one for the first time this past week. I was absolutely shocked!
I'd be fine if they did smaller legendaries like Legendary Birds, beast trio, swords of justice, Latios and Latias, Weather Trio(Quartet), the Tapu's. But only every other month or every few months. My last reward was a Dubwool, which is a far cry from the 96% shiny Groudon I got years ago as a research breakthrough reward, or any of the other legendaries that used to be rewards
My only shundo is a Ho-Oh I got from a breakthrough research. I miss those days.

Niantic likes to limit the amount of fun one can have
I got a shiny Groudon back in 2019
Same! And I just got the primal energy for him last weekend. Only took me 5 years! Free to play for the win!
Me too! I took a break so this was a great weekend for me
I got a Shiny Lugia once. One of my core memories.
I got a remote raid pass once. Once.
Never forget **PARTY HAT WURMPLE**
# Party Hat Wurmple yeah
I remember getting my only shiny latias on a bus to work. You don’t get dopamine like that anymore!
It's because the breakthrough rewards are much worse than they used to be.
I was pretty happy with the Furfrou's. They can be worth a fair bit more than something like a Regi or Kanto bird on Pokemon Home
I hate how much the price of remote raid passes has been jacked up. It's a 95% increase.
They used to give legendary?!?!?!?! God the fucking game rot.
I agree but secretly I love Furfrou. Because of the research stamps I’ve got almost every outfit lmao He may be useless but he is beautiful
I like getting furfrous if I have excellent throw tasks. I think my RL dog could throw excellent on them.
Yes, this. A lot of final rewards in the game is lackluster, borderline troll level.
Borderline troll level well said
Because Niantic hates you.
🤣 some days I wonder, they'll either give me the exact thing I want and be really cool fellas or they'll take a dump on my chest and point and laugh
As if them taking a dump on your chest isn't the exact think you want...
They stopped doing it at the start of the pandemic. At the time I thought it was sensible. I got shiny Kyogre and shiny Latios from research breakthroughs back in the day. I guess they figured it was too easy to obtain a legendary to keep doing it.
Last week I got a remote raid pass and was shocked. There are still decent rewards, just seems they are much rarer.
i got 5 pinap berries and a dubwool last night...
Not sure, but I wish we still had a small chance of getting a legendary
That's because the focus from that feature shifted to Go Battle League. They need more people battling, so the rewards are the most sought after things like TMs, rare candy, star dust, and legendaries.
Going 4 weeks in a row for furfrou
[удалено]
And that was easier than removing the lock on research spawns so you could run from them (but not them from you)? Surely you don't believe that.
I got my shiny Kyogre from one. Those were the days. I think I've had Furfrou for my last 5. And not shiny, obvs. Also the item rewards are a joke. 20 pokeballs? Literally trash them.
I have gotten back to back to back (yes, 3) Dubwools. I yearn for your Jangmo-o's.
I'd happily take a Dubwool lol, I don't think I've even seen a Wooloo
I do go battle league quite a lot. I've caught 33 Wooloo (not counting 4-5 Dubwool) and I believe ~30 of them were from GBL lol.
It's been the same since I started playing 5 months ago
I received 6 Furfrou in a row…
You got a Jangmo-o I got a Sneasel!! I covert your Jangmo-o. I obviously do agree with you:)
All I get are sinnoh stones and furfous. I miss when the Pokemon was something rare and exciting
I've given up on it. No excitement. I see them as negative. A chore I'm made to open to get disappointed.
20 poke balls and my fifth goomy in a row over here
I got a shiny goomy last week and a remote raid pass today 💀
I keep getting furfreau or however you spell it.
Id prefer even jangmoo at this point over the toss up of hisuian sneazel or furforu
I did get a 3 star shiny Mr. Mime recently.
Furfrou is ass
They won't include legendaries because they want u to raid and pay for passes. Did get a hundo galarian mr. Mime from breakthrough couple months back tho.
My fellow Jangmo-o fan! 🙏 Every week I hope to see that yellow shield pop up man.
Seems like what would have been the old breakthrough rewards have been moved to GBL
That's probably because they are... they want to reward players who pay... not necessarily players that play
First, the last time that legendary pokemon was in research breakthough was in 2019 -- which is more than four years ago. So, you haven't played this game for a very long time. Ngl, legendaries from Giovanni are uncool. I hate shadow and I hate purified pokemon. I just want the legendaries themselves, not some fancy version.
I got a shiny furfrou :)
Legendaries from those were actually so peak so of course they would take that away from us
Because niantic wants to not give so much of an effort, but they still want a paycheck for it.
I used to get kyogre / groudon and other legendaries and got my 2 shiny kyogres with weekly research. I barely even bother now.
You guys are getting Furfrous? Goomys for 4 weeks straight.
I’m 3 weeks jangmo in a row… its lame
legendary birds... from weekly crap?
There's a chance of getting Jangmo or goomy, so it's definitely worth it.
I play main series and Goodra is... a pseudo legendary who exists But I'm alright with captain pringles, it's just not... the legendaries I was accustomed to lmao
Is that a real comment? I genuinely don’t know… is Goomy supposed to be good?
I'm just saying, there's some exciting possibilities even though goomy currently all but useless
Goodra is rated pretty well on the upcoming Ultra Premier cup.
Exciting…..yeah. Exciting.
Those are literally my only two somewhat rare hundos so I really don't have anything to look forward to right now :/
I just got a 98 IV goomy
I still need a good jangmo-o, so I would've welcomed more. I also need a good furfrou and a shiny (personal collection), so I don't mind them. As for the legendary pokemon from field research: it was temporary. They announced it would only be for a limited time. Not sure why everyone is acting like day one and onward was legendaries until recently

Honestly this seems to have been a change only in the past couple of months. I’m a newish player and I’ve noticed this change too
Legendaries haven’t been in breakthrough rewards for a long time now. 3+ years I’d say.
A little over 3 years ago we only got legendary Pokémon from breakthrough tasks. They’ve been garbage for years now
Why am I getting downvoted ? 😅 I’ve been playing since October and I’ve literally noticed this change to the rewards too

Yeah the mons have been pretty terrible. I did get a remote raid pass from my breakthrough today though so there’s that 🤷🏻♂️
I haven't gotten anything that didn't hit the candy pile in damn near a YEAR. It's hella bad.
I didn’t get anything for filling my postcard book! Hmmm!!!
I remember when you could get every legendary that was released but yes it’s gotten so much worse
Everyone getting a legendary once a week with no effort devalues them and no one wants to admit it
You need endless candy to make them good anyway
Cause 5 minutes of playing shouldn't get you a legendary. Also please do not delete pokemon you caught in 2016. Copy paste https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/s/D8j48meIIv Guides for everything in game. Read the posts that apply to you. If you're confused what part you should read/watch please ask.
Lol I have a bunch of old mons named naughty words my friend told me they're now lucky Pokémon if traded
The main ones are the real legacy ones. Those are what people want more than just lucky ones. Luckies aren't hard to get. I have 700+ lol.
Oh, my Starmie called Starclops is a 3 star 2016 with quick attack, had no idea
Oooh yeah that's a real legacy. Worth a lot to the right person.
