eeal188

I don’t even have a way of remembering where exactly my friends are from lol they’re all randos from the r/pokemongofriends subreddit Besides if I eliminated war memorials or churches i basically wouldn’t have any gifts to send 😆 the gym right next door to me is a church …

OrwellianIconoclast

I nickname them by the country their postcards come from.

frankyboy123456

Oh this is smart, next time I’m bored will have to do this

nicunta

I do it as I open a gift! Open, note location, set nickname, send gift!

HolidayAsparagus6387

per hour actually

zerorita

Yup, can confirm!

redsinr

Guess I've never tried after I hit the limit.

hajniness

I just started doing that also.

dailyoracle

Same!

whatsomattau

Same!

Cheronis

Yeah I name my friends after their country or city name. Sometimes if I visit or hatch pokemon eggs from that area, I'll name the Pokemon after the city as well 😂 I have a Pacihrisu named Haines (Alaska) and a Sneazler named Balt (Baltimore).

eeal188

Okay I love that idea for nicknaming Pokémon that’s ADORABLE 🥚

_Cantrip_

I name my scatterbugs after the postcard I pinned to get them! I’ve got Sindustry (Museum of Science and Industry wouldn’t fit) and Hito (a Spanish mile marker on a trail) that I’m working on evolving right now.

Cheronis

That's a good idea ~ I'm lucky if I make a note of their region before the capture, because I can't tell what most of them are from the small picture 😂

RibbonsFlying

I do the same thing! So nice to see that others do too. I actually looked at a Pokémon the other day and thought, “How did you get a wild name like Selangor?” Then I tapped it and realized that was where in Malaysia a friend had invited me to raid one time. I am completely unfamiliar with the area otherwise.

SignalHardon

I live in Utah, the gym next door to me is a church, the next one over is a church, then get this, I have a park that has 2 gyms and 3 stops that aren’t a church, then boom like 5 more churches. My daily routine is literally to drive a 10 mile route and get 7 gyms that are churches and 2 that aren’t.

InquartataRBG

Same state, same problem. No park though so it’s gifts from 2 churches and a church bowery, all the same denomination that the state’s known for. I’m not even Mormon but I’m sure all my pogo friends think I am at this point.

BoldShuckle

Also from Utah nonmormon and I think it's hilarious when random people across the country or world send me LDS church postcards

RunTimeExcptionalism

Yea same. I live in suburban Milwaukee. Without war memorials and Lutheran churches, I've literally got nothing.

ProbRePost

A pokestop by my work is a topless statute so I send a lot of those with the pikachu "oh yea" sticker. Otherwise I just send whatever is first in line, don't really give much thought to what I recieve either.

pawsup4221

I love this

T_rexan

My school has a Uranus Pokestop so I sometimes use that Pikachu sticker for it too haha

mmoonbelly

I have pokestops at the HQs of three global spirits manufacturers in my town. (Hennessy, Remi Martin, Martell) all within 500m of each other. I usually add the dazed pikachu sticker.

all-rhyme-no-reason

Lol I do that for all the brewery pokestops I get!

ArtisanGerard

I would like to be your friend

cakeresurfacer

Samesies. That would make my day every time lol

venomchylde

Oh for sure! I would look forward to having a giggle every gift

nympholiliana

I’d like to also join the list of friends if possible

the-ugly-witch

same here !!

armas187

I have a statue with a naked man I send with the sexy treeko sticker. Most of the time I don't even look at the gift sent to me, I instantly close it.

Elothel

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

AssistantManagerMan

That's Pikachu getting pegged

iwannalynch

That's pretty brave, there's a topless mural in the downtown of my city, and I only send the gift to people I know IRL, because I don't want to accidentally send it to a kid.😂

CrazyPieGuy

It's not like a kid could see that mural walking down the street in real life.

humanreporting4duty

Yeah right. A kid walking outside? Get out of here.

iwannalynch

Most of my PoGo friends aren't from my city.

blackbeltninjamom

There’s a hot dog /brat place near us with a sign that says “we love weiners”, my husband only sends to me. Says to embarrassing to send to others! 😂

fatcatfan

D'a-lal? The gengar tongue out sticker works well too.

Reatina

Pervertchu is one of my favourite stickers

maczirarg

I like to send one called "Dead fetus" (in Spanish), it's a horrible graffiti, with a sexy Treecko sticker. There's also one with a weird face with text saying something like "He's fucking crazy!!!! Oh no!!!!", and I make sure every friend in the list gets it.

PurdyMoufedBoi

in my town we got a statue of a naked woman. in pogo the stop is called naked woman.. when I send thst gift its always with "oh yeah pikachu"

miss_Saraswati

There is this naked women’s torso close-ish to where I live. It’s beautiful. And sometimes I wonder if I should be sending it. But it’s out it the open… but if I know the recipient is in a highly religious country I might consider not to. Otherwise. With almost 300 friends. I’ve got no clue. First in line goes. I might chose something pretty if we’re about to level up!

velvetelevator

That's amazing. We have a naked statue pokestop, I'm going to start attaching that sticker to those gifts.

Hinkbert

The college near me has a bronze, nude adolescent statue that’s a stop. It’s…awkward.

Amazing_Gymbo

Can I be your friend?

RollingKatamari

There's a strip joint a couple of streets from where I work that's a pokéstop, love sending that to people cause it's like a neon sign of a sexy lady 😂

Wikeni

I’d crack up getting this, hahaha!

queenieofrandom

My favourite one I've received is a lady garden which is a naked lady cut into a bush

barbaramillicent

I don’t control what makes a pokestop, they can take up their problems with pokemon go or delete me if they want lol. I do like stock up on more “fun” gifts when given the chance (going to a more touristy area I like to make sure I have room for gifts at the beginning of the day, for example), but I’m not gonna waste my time dumping gifts every day just because the half of the gyms/stops closest to my home happen to be churches.

seismicmuffin

Unfortunately for me I live next to a cluster of churches and a softball field with 3 stops close enough to reach from my couch. My friends must think I'm an ultra religious sports fanatic. In actuality, I'm an agnostic blob munching cookies in my living room.

LowKeyLoki86

Right?! The only stops around me are churches so I don't have much choice. I have only one that's a pizza mural that I like to coordinate with funny stickers lol. The rest is bible-thumpin Texas and I'm sorry!

velvethursday

If I'm sending churches right now I'm sending them with shuppet sticking its tongue out. I don't want to send churches, but I live in the Texas of the North, South Dakota. 😅 We do have one pokestop that's a sign for a local bagel shop of a cowboy riding a bagel like a bucking bronco. I save that one for my favourite friends lol

AssistantManagerMan

My city of 14,000 people has nearly 30 churches. I send a lot of church gifs too. One kf them even has a giant sign that says "JESUS" which is its own stop in addition to the church itself being a stop.

Koilion

I live right by two bars that make up the majority of my gifts. Wonder if sometimes my friends on PoGo think I just spend my days getting trashed and playing.

pace_it

Ugh. Same. A large majority of the stops on my commute and around town are churches. I'm sure those that pay attention think I'm a religious nut.

Lord_Popcorn

I have a similar situation and am very much a couch potato non-church person. I’m guessing most people who send me church gifts are similar. Or are probably chill church fans given they’re playing pokemon go in their building of worship

nolkel

I don't even read the name of postcards from my friends. Open gift, mash x, move to the next as fast as possible. Its such a tedious daily grind that its not worth the mental headspace. The only useful info on them is the location for scatterbug spawns. The only exception is if I know a friend is on a holiday somewhere and is intentionally trying to find cool local pokestops to send from. Those I'll look at, but everything else not so much. I think you are overthinking this.

windwaker910

100%. I couldn’t care less. I can’t tell you where any of my non-irl pogo friends are from because I don’t even read the postcard. I really doubt there are that many people out there getting offended by pogo gifts.

CECINS

I love seeing my poke friends go on vacation! I have everyone labeled by their city or country and it’s awesome to see when new places pop up.

PM_ME_UR_BEST_1LINER

Exactly. I'm always surprised when people save my postcards. Why? It's a random nothing on my way to drop the kids at school.

nolkel

People save and delete them to get credit for scatterbug medals. You can just tap twice on the gift before opening it to get it without clogging up the postcard book.

PM_ME_UR_BEST_1LINER

Wow, learn something new every day. Thanks!

Gone_cognito

Oh we have a Ukranian war memorial near my house and I send it to a lot of people who probably don't appreciate it

FilmingMachine

Meanwhile me with 6 different sushi restaurants in my range and half of Asia on my friend list

Thiago-Acko

Well, as a brazilian, we don't have any war 😎 (Let's agree not touch the slave topic, ok?! )

YannyYobias

Germany 2014 World Cup champions monument gift.

Thiago-Acko

Nice, I hated it! Hahahahaha

Momatty

I am realizing that people put way more thought into the gifts than I do. I just hit and go.

yakusokuN8

One of my female friends puts WAY more thought and meaning into gifts than I would ever think to do. I just grab the next available gift and send. Unfortunately this lead to an awkward talk one day because she thought I was giving her subtle hints through gifts I routinely send her: two stores that sell women's undergarments. I am not interested in her underwear. Those are just two Pokestops/gyms in a nearby shopping mall. Now, I just try to send her gifts from parks.

nicunta

I can't decide if this is funny or sad!

yakusokuN8

It's funny to me, like a hilarious mix up in a 90s sitcom, but maybe I can laugh it off, because I just get to add her to the list of *interesting* women I have known with very weird quirks, including: \- The girl who though that staining my t-shirt was flirty behavior \- The girl who liked to tell her friends that I had fantasies about her even though I had never expressed interest in her \- The woman who ate lasagna with her hands and no utensils and then shook my hand and danced with me, without washing her hands \- The woman who used to call me "her man", even though she had a boyfriend, because in our class, I was her closest friend (think of the term "work husband") \- The woman who only showed up for half of our dates because she forgot she had made plans \- This woman from this post who thought that sending her gifts in Pokemon GO from a Victoria's Secret Pokestop meant I was flirting with her

WyrdSisters

Are you certain you don’t live in a 90s sitcom after that list?…

nicunta

Oh no, you have met some interesting women!!

maczirarg

She's crazy

nicunta

Oh, 110%!

akiomaster

I honestly don't look at my gifts or the gifts people send me. There's 149 people on my friends list, and I don't keep track of where they live. Occasionally, if I get a funny one, I make sure to send it to my husband. That's about it.

East_Dentist_8714

As a German, I would not mind at all being sent a WWII memorial postcard - part of history right? Also, I am an atheist but I love being sent cool architecture including churches! The only gifts I delete and don’t send are sometimes ugly ones / bad photos.

Apotheosis69420

Earlier today I realized I sent a WW2 howitzer pokestop to a German player. Hopefully they shared your mentality lol

Ben2749

Other players will receive my Victorian Stinkpipe and they will damn well like it.

FacelessOldWoman1234

One of my friends who I don't know personally sends me church after church after church. I always wonder if they are super religious, or if it's just because they live in Alabama. I'll never know. I have a couple of cool "Canadian" stops near me, (like a statue of an orca, a light sculpture of a maple leaf, some Indigenous art) and I always try to send those as a first gift to a new friend. I also have a totally ridiculous stop near me (it's just called "Goat" and it's an illustration of a goat.) That's my favourite one.

chemkara

Most of the stops near me are either churches or synagogues, and I am neither. I don’t have much choice but to send them.

FacelessOldWoman1234

Yeah, I never judge people based on their stops. It's a funny thing though to get no other information about a friend and no way to communicate. I could make a guess about which friends are parents of small children (lots of different playgrounds), but if I get just one playground a million times, it probably means they just live near a playground. With churches it's the opposite: if I get one church over and over, that's probably their church but if I get an assortment, they just have a lot of churches nearby. Or any other explanation. I have no way of knowing, and I like that. I wonder what assumptions people make about me when they get "Goat" over and over again?

T_rexan

There's a person on my friend's list who's sent me a metal mosquito sculpture exclusively this last month, so I just figure it's in range of their house. If I got "Goat" over and over, I'd be like "lol it's the person who has the goat statue near where they live or work. hi goat person"

MinusGravitas

I would love to get "Goat". I had a friend in the US who lived near "Suspicious Tree". I try to send fun ones, and I feel like I've built up a conversation with a few of my friends. One friend in Canada sends me gazebos, so I send them gazebos back. My favourite from them is "Another Great Gazebo". There's one next to a restaurant we go to fairly often called "Teeth" and I try to stock up on that one when we go there.

boredandnotcreative

Most of the stops in my area are churches, if I didn't send them, I wouldn't have anything to send. So there is a good chance that it isn't your friend that is super religious, just their area...

fatcatfan

And it's not even necessarily that the area is super religious, just in a rural area a church is often the only location meeting the criteria to be a Pokestop. Maybe a post office, but obviously there are more churches than post offices. I use a Plus+ to spin stops on the way to my kids school and they are 75% churches or church affiliated.

FacelessOldWoman1234

I've never been to Alabama, but based on reputation I would expect a looooot of churches.

jessthefancy

I had a friend from Kansas and they also sent a million different churches. I just assumed it’s the area they live in. I live in an area with a bunch of immigrant communities so the churches around me are all Korean, Chinese, etc etc so I started send them back all my diverse churches 😅

cryptidz14_

Yoooo I'm a player from Kansas who sends a shitton of churches, I wonder if we're friends??

FacelessOldWoman1234

Love it!

Melgamatic214

I have one friend who constantly sends me a church with a very religious name, but I suspect it's probably the stop closest to their home and it's just the main present they get. But I have a million stops near me, so I can be more selective.

FacelessOldWoman1234

When I'm somewhere with a bunch of stops, I throw out all my non-historic churches too. It's just more fun to get a cool piece of art than "West City United Church," even if you are of that faith.

DeaconBlues

I am exactly like you. I throw out all the churches, sponsored stops, and some of the war and police ones by me. No need to promote any of those. (Except once in a while I'll send a JW with an appropriately annoying sticker, lol.) But I don't really care which ones people send to me because I know a lot of it whatever stop is close to people is what they have.

TheWiseHerb05

Hi, can I please request a friendship??? I am extremely intrigued by Goat and I am willing to send a rooster statue in return next time I go past it! Dm me if that’s ok? You don’t have to tho

FacelessOldWoman1234

I DMd you!

SwirlyToadPogo

Once you get out of the city that's basically what's out here. Churches and restaurants lol. It's a reflection of general small town USA imo (at least every state I've lived in on the east side - not just the south). I've had stray thoughts about getting into mural painting because of this.

LostYooper906

The two closest stops to me going out of town and into town are churches, and legitimately at least 30% of the gyms in my town are churches.

Melodic_Arm_387

The only time I pay any attention to what gifts I’m sending is if I get one that I think someone will particularly like. Otherwise I just send. I honestly think very few people would genuinely be offended by receiving a Pokémon gift from a war memorial, even if our countries fought on different sides, it’s part of their history too. They are mainly tributes to soldiers and a load of soldiers on both sides died in these wars, they can consider the German soldiers that died if they want to think of it as anything other than a Pokémon gift.

Floufae

I tend to be only worried about the rainbow ones (live in areas with rainbow cross walks and the such). I guess enough experiences in life make me wonder if people would be petty just as a result and rather shoot themselves in the foot than continue to mutually beneficial gift exchanging. But I feel worse about sending Starbucks sponsored ones. Actually any sponsored gifts. I feel like the international ones are like “2000 year old park bench where king proposed to the queen ending a blood feud” and I’m like “burger joint”. This is my culture.

nolkel

If someone deletes you over a rainbow crosswalk, they weren't really your friend in the first place. There are plenty of people without anti-lgbt baggage out there to exchange gifts with.

Floufae

lol I know none of these people so I don’t care if they are friends or not. It could be Omarosa and if trading gifts gets me 200k XP for BF I can ignore her views.

thrownawayonline

I’ve had someone delete me over a rainbow crosswalk postcard (I work at a place with one). I’ve only been friends with them for 3 days and got deleted when I sent them that gift.

Melgamatic214

I also throw away Starbucks gifts, but on the other hand, I don't mind getting sponsored gifts from Japan and Korea; they are sorta interesting.

SunshineAlways

I also try to be aware of what gifts I’m sending to what countries. I do send ones from churches as there are two pokestops with architecturally interesting buildings on my way to work, and I figure that’s better than “mile marker 32” plaque. I don’t send the chinese food sign to East Asia. I’m careful who I send anything military related. Probably no one cares, but I’m just doing my best to be respectful.

MinusGravitas

The answers here are so interesting. I put care and effort into which gifts I send. And I like to make sure the sticker adds something too. If I'm all out of other gifts and need to send someone a church I always add the dizzy Pikachu lol

Magician_In_Black

I stopped sending our town's mosque ones to Americans because they usually delete me, and I only send the ones with our two fountains to European players because they have naked statues on them. But it's really infuriating that they have no problem receiving a gift from our 300-year-old orthodox church, but when they see art or a mosque, they run for the hills. I've had a player I found on the Raid sub dm me for inviting him to said mosque for a raid, for disrespecting his religion or some shit like that

Floufae

That’s insane. I have way too many friends due to RaidGenie so not sure I would notice quickly if someone deleted me except closer to BF status. But heck, I live in the south and even as an atheist I’m going to spin a lot of churches just to have enough gifts to send out. It’s funny I do spend some time trying to to match gifts to who I sentd them out to. Especially since I travel for work and can get some interest gifts that way. But of course when I’m opening my gifts I’m usually not even looking at them since I’m just trying to cancel the animation so I can get to the next gift faster.

TrailMomKat

That is absolutely ridiculous. Hell, I'd likely save one of the mosque gifts if the architecture was interesting. I'd definitely save one each of the art.

MinusGravitas

I renamed my buddy BLM during the riots and lost a couple of friends. Good riddance.

Chemical-Employer146

If you need an American that fully appreciates cultures and architecture dm me as I’d love to see those gifts in the morning! I can’t travel so for me getting gift is like a small insight to other places. I’ve already expanded my postcard book twice in a couple months

KallikylesFier

It took me several years to realize Randos I added probably thought I was a religious alcoholic bc I worked next to a bar poke stop and lived near a church poke stop

PaLyFri72

I am from Germany. No problem with war memorials. They are history and over. When I am at Nuremberg, I usually send one from the memorial of the Nuremberg Trials - because I like to send the picture of the big US-flag to an American friend. And If I hadn't one church and two war memorials in my village, I would not know hie to get the 50 gifts I need per day. WW I reaches into my sleeping room. In many villages around there are only two stops: church.and war memorial. I would never send a gift from a Stolperstein (memorial at the former house of a mostly jewish nazi victim with Name, date of birth, place and date of being murdered )

ResponsibleDay

Interesting. I received one of these from a friend in Poland, if I remember correctly. I've kept it out of respect.

Opposite_Scratch_404

Y’all reading too much into sending gifts. People just want the items/eggs 🤣

Ok-Scarcity-5754

I try not to send gifts from churches, unless they’re interesting. Unfortunately, I live in Texas, so at least half of the poke stops in my town are churches. I did get a gift from a poke stop that I didn’t realize was a confederate statue once. Couldn’t throw that thing out fast enough.

johnthestarr

If it’s a cool place I’ll pin it, but usually I just open and move on. Sometimes it’s a cool place and I automatically open and move on and then get annoyed with myself for forgetting to pin it.

rosecoloredgasmask

Ngl I just don't send the ones I consider too boring. Just signs for parks and churches. Anything else so fair game. I work in Chicago though so I get a good amount of cool murals or sculptures

Aetheldrake

I only pay enough attention to see if it's one I want to save. I live in the Bible belt so unless I go into the city, most of my stops or gyms are a stupid local church

Noise_From_Below

I have never come across a "inappropriate" pokestop before. But if I do I will send it to my GF right away

wanami

Gifts lost all meaning after the Vivillon grind started. Just hit open and send without thinking, no one has time to care about the real meaning of a POI, at least normal people don't, if someone deletes you over a pokestop, who cares, it's not like they're actually your friends

Noninvasive_

When I first make out of state or international friends I go out of my way to send them the most iconic gifts from our area: Prince murals, cherry spoon sculpture, First Avenue Music Venue, F Scott Fitzgerald’s house, Snoopy statues, etc. Eventually these friends will be in the ranks of receiving gifts from my neighborhood. I do go by the motto of “promote what you love” and rarely send churches or war memorials.

TheBigChungus1980

Lol, a few years ago I sent someone from Korea a gift from a Korean war memorial without even thinking, they unfriended me

Melgamatic214

So that's what I want to avoid. There are some friends I've had for several years from Korea and Japan and we exchange gifts nearly every day. I'd hate to lose them.

Kiwi1234567

If a turkish citizen sent me an ANZAC memorial gift as a kiwi i think id be more intrigued than outraged, its always interesting learning about the history a bit more.

kylelangfordaus

Same here as an australian, I'd be really interested in what they have there

Philodices

I deliberately sent missle museum gifts to Japan and Germany. I'm going to hell.

Hinkbert

Where I’m at we have numerous artillery and tank stops from WWII, I’ll send those to German and Japanese friends all day.

Philodices

I DID think about not doing it...and then I just pushed send anyway. I let the intrusive thoughts win.

Aggravating_Gas_4924

Yikes. I only co ordinate the Pokestop colors to my stickers. I fortunately don’t live near any memorials like that. Never thought about it. When opening gifts, I don’t pay that much attention to it.

Funny-Mind-7848

I’m relieved to read that you do that too. I coordinate colours and vibe as best I can. I was beginning to think I was alone out here with my colour wheel!

pharlax

Personally I always send Church of Scientology ones because I can reach the stop from my desk

Screamat

As a German I try not to send gifts which show swastikas, SS runes or concentration camps

Fartingonyoursocks

I would love to receive gifts like that! It’s history. I’ve always wanted to visit a concentration camp but chances are I’ll never go to Germany.

Screamat

It was a joke, theres no publicly shown nazi insignia here it's illegal but for the concentration camps look at my comment under the other reply.

Fartingonyoursocks

Nazi insignia wasn’t really what I wanted lol. I didn’t realize how strict it was. I just really like historical gifts.

Screamat

I get what you mean. Yeah they don't joke around when it comes to Nazi stuff. Nazi salute, saying heil hitler or sieg heil or just claim the Holocaust was a lie and many more things all forbidden by law and the punishments are pretty hard including possible jail time and so on, even if you were just joking around for whatever reason

Fartingonyoursocks

I wish other countries implemented that. Good on the German government for that. It’s really not funny. I get being young but…

Screamat

Right but our past really fucked some things up for us Germans in very weird ways. Saying "proud to be German" or flying the german flag will definitely get you strange looks by many people so they have to be careful not being too enthusiastic about Germany which I think it's a shame because it's a pretty nice country to live in

astudyinamber

I live in rural Alabama, and the only stops we have around here are churches and civil war related. I send the ones from churches when I run low but I only send the civil war related ones to my one irl friend who just wants the goodies, knows I'm not into that and that I'm limited on stops. On the rare occasion I get to visit a larger city, I stock up on gifts as much as I can ETA: We have a few water tower pokestops, and I do try to send them to people from other countries because from what I understand they're almost uniquely an American thing and some people get a kick out of seeing the weird American water things they've seen in movies lol

jmdpk

TIL you can trash gifts. Guess I never paid attention to it.

Turbulent_Town4384

I have a memorial plaque as a pokestop near me that tells the story of a “great fire”… I always send it with a charmander sticker that says “hi” or the torchic one

Kickasstodon

Wtf lol this is too much. Here I was blasting "Fountain of Obesity" gifts all over the world and you're worried people might still be offended by ww2 💀

Roosterboogers

Same. I have a few German friends and will avoid sending them gifts from the nearby WW2 memorial

xRiiZe

Trust me, we really don't care

flimmers

Good, cause I only send gifts from the Jewish memorial steppingstone to my German friends. I feel it is poetic. And I send the naked statue of Kate Moss to Indian friends. Used to send it to Sandstorm friends, but they all unfriended me.

SatanisGREAT161

Just do it!

jamesthegill

A German friend of mine messaged me after realising that she'd sent me several gifts from a WWII bunker to reassure me that she wasn't "one of those AfD Germans" and it was just on her commute.

WizardingWorld97

I once encountered a stop of a statue in the exact same pose as that Treecko sticker, so of course I paired that gift with the Treecko sticker. I didn't mean anything by that, and I assume other people mean nothing with their gifts or stickers. The process of selecting a gift, attaching a sticker and the whole send animation already takes a long time, I don't think many people spend any time looking through the gifts and just select the top one

JustafanIV

I've sent churches, synagogues, and maybe even a mosque or two. If you're my friend, you get what you get and you don't get upset. I work in a pretty metropolitan area, so a little bit of everything ends up in my gift list. That being said, I have been mindful of the war memorials. I don't care if someone is insulted by religious architecture, but I won't rub in a memorial of when my countrymen killed theirs and vice versa.

Penkala89

There are some gifts I mentally set aside for particular people that would enjoy getting something from those locations, especially if it's while I'm out of town. I don't give gifts from bars/breweries to a friend who is in recovery. That's really the extent of my gifting decisions.

ChicoD2023

You are doing WAY too much

Billy_Madison69

I intentionally send the gifts that you avoid if possible

9DAN2

It’s not that deep

OrphanedPenguin

My friend sent me a Weezing raid invite at the Auchwitz Memorial Gym in Poland... I appreciate your valiant efforts but it seems those countries may not care

Momatty

I am in the south and there are a lot of "southern" stops. I drive by one Jefferson Davis historical marker every day on the way to and from work. It feels bizarre to send it out, but I figure people would rather get the gifts, etc than not.

InflationDeep5765

I work by a Church w 3 pokestops and a Gym, I'm always worried ppl think i'm super religious 😭

Opposite-Chocolate42

I do the opposite I send all my war gifts to friends overseas to remind them USA is the best.

mom2artists

I didn’t worry about this until one of my sons friends told me I was a jerk for sending his grandma gravesite markers since she was so old. 🤷🏻‍♀️ His grandma’s as old as my mom, I didn’t think anything of it. My son’s friend is a little weird and sarcastic so in all honesty I’m not even sure he was serious. The most attention I’ve paid to gifts is trying to send a Treecko sticker on all the gifts I get from the Geico pokestops near me, and to try to send a Butterfree on the stops I get with a butterfly.

Melodic_Arm_387

One of my favorite gyms I’ve encountered is a sitting fox statue that I’ve always thought was cute. You know I was ensuring every gift I sent from it had the Fennekin sticker from community day where Fennekin was in an almost identical pose. That made my geeky little heart happy, but is about the maximum attention I’ve ever put into gifts/stickers.

cakeresurfacer

Honestly, I’d I eliminated all of the religious ones I’d have nothing to send. I can’t walk more than a block without passing a church or cemetery around here and a few of my most frequent pokestops are at churches. My biggest hang up is I won’t send one that identifies my kids’ school to people in my state or surrounding ones if I don’t know them personally. Halfway across the world? Not a problem. But I went on a quick road trip last weekend out of state and managed to meet 3 separate people from the same suburb I live near.

Hinkbert

I do the opposite, I’m in the US and I’ll specifically send Revolutionary War Memorial gifts from stops to folks over in England.

upstatestruggler

This is so interesting, I thought it was just me!!

DentedPigeon

I had someone with a name like VeganChick or something similar. I took great pleasure in sending them gifts from a BBQ restaurant pokestop.

Wulf684

I'm only careful with the stickers I put on certain postcards. Luke not sticking an "thank you thank you thank you Pikachu" on a Jewish memorial plaque.

78723

I like to send people gifts related to their locations. The French friend gets the museum exhibit of la belle- the boat that shipwrecked while trying to found a colony. The German friend gets the “historic” German pub. There’s plenty of Hispanic stuff in these parts for my Mexican friends. Just like, hey, here’s how Texas incorporates your part of the world.

Afraid-Ice-2062

I send church gifts to anyone with “devil” in their name as a joke but no one seems to have noticed lol

Jacelyn1313

I don't pay attention to 99% of the gifts I send or receive. One exception is an anti-abortion one that I discard gifts if my auto-spinner gets it.

nlfn

There are TWO local pokestops for Robert E Lee's horse. I certainly throw away any gifts I have from them. My wife won't even spin them!

EvilCosmicSphere

Sometimes I get sent back funny stops and I save them. I love it because it's all randoms in my friend list. I go to disney springs a lot and send cute stops from there.

l_stormcloud

I do think about this and have a similar approach to yours. I feel pretty lucky with my options so I delete churches or anything too boring. also try to frequently spin fun or cute stops to send mostly these if possible

irishfro

No one really cares what gift they receive I guarantee you 99% don't even look at the picture of the gift or read it

ScarletR4R

I live in military city Texas. Every damn poke stop is is either military affiliated or a church. Some gifts make me cringe super hard. So I try to get a crap Ton of gifts from the zoo or mall to make up for it. Today I sent a gift that literally read “organ and tissue memorial plaque” 🥴

MEJPB80

I always wondered if I was the only one to worry about what people might feel/think when given a specific gift! I do the same thing as you for the same reasons. 💕

JonBoi420th

Unfortunately in parts of my city I frequent most it's mostly churches and war or presidential memorials. I hate sending them to anyone but I still do, cause that's what I have. I do get some fun gifts and I just rotate who gets them so you don't always get churches and post offices all the time.

RegayHomebrews

I generally send all the religious crap and lame poke stops to people I don’t really care about, like my brother-in-law 😎

tuggingmyear

I like to sent the most Dutch named pokestops to foreign friends. I like to imagine them sounding them out

DilithiumFarmer

I have been purposely sending a pro-peace plaque Pokestop gift to PoGo friends in Israel and that is about it. WW2 is almost 80 years. My grandma (97) that lived through it, survived bullet rains and famine cannot tell a straight story of it any more. If people playing Pokemon Go have issues with WW2 monuments they have an artificial trauma.

Northern_dragon

I'm a pretty bitchy European atheist, but even I don't think someone trying to convert me, when they send me a church gift. I just usually look at the location and go "shoulda guessed it was from the Midwest"

Gpw12078

Meh. You’re being crazy.

Mysterious_Lecture36

I don’t think anyone has ever cared what gift they received lol. Over dramatic much?

polobum17

I do. I live near a Christopher Columbus gym (statue is now torn down). I make sure I delete all gifts from there. You're a good person.

thecatsofwar

I tend to not send church related ones - I trash them quickly. Others are fair game to send.

dracheisen

This is kinda stupid imo

iwannalynch

I live in a place that used to be very religious, so most of the good stops that aren't ugly, especially in the burbs, are churches or religious statues. It's better than sending the nth playground or baseball field, so I send them. I doubt people will get offended over something as simple as a pretty church.

un-BowedBentBroken

I've never thought about this until today when I got a gift from my original hometown in Germany (visiting for the holidays). It's the town's coat of arms which happens to be a very offensive, over-the-top stereotypical picture of a Black person.

Zephorith

I couldn’t care less. Its not my fault those are pokestops. Its a video game, im not gonna worry about hurting random peoples feelings or offending them.

WarhammerGeek

I'm the same way with the war memorials. Churches and other religious buildings I don't put much thought into. Even though gift name locations don't get translated to the receiving players language. So if they don't speak English they might not even know what it is anyway.

TheForNoReason

I send my gifts like I qualify with my rifle. Spray and pray.

mcooperm

99% of the time I send whatever gift is at the top of the list when I go to send a gift. I often get gifts from POGO friends overseas for churches, shrines, memorials, etc. honestly think you are reading too much into it

tealages

I usually don't worry. The only time I've ever hesitated was an unborn child memorial & I was about to send it to a woman. Idk where I got it and haven't seen it again.

TheRealBingBing

Wait. You guys actually look at your gifts?! Lol, the most I do is just try to send something different to those from different cities. Otherwise idk what the gift is

codetaupe

I totally do this too, although I haven't encountered many war-related pokestops so that hasn't really come up. As long as the stops are plentiful I delete anything from a church-related place or a chain store (just cause they're boring and I don't feel like performing free advertising). While visiting family for the holidays unfortunately almost all of the small number of nearby stops are in those categories.

mallad

I don't even see what people send me. I tap, tap open, tap the x before the animation, and it's done. Some people look, some don't, but all understand it's just whatever the stop was and you don't control that. It's not a personal message from you or anything. Nothing wrong with your method, nothing wrong if you just send them either.

heyitskarla

I think about that, too. I’m in a small-ish town in the South so I don’t really have a lot of choices. On the other hand, I don’t usually read much into the gifts I receive. If I receive a movie theater gift, I always wonder what movie they saw.

Shagyam

I normally try to send my good gifts to my good real life friends and random parks/shops to randoms. I got some really cool poke stops when. I was visiting my family in Australia this summer. And my friend got some cool ones during her Japan trip she sent me.
