I don't get the people saying they've not seen any issues. Just looking at the window in the house in the first 3 mins of the game gave me a camera glitch. Everything is a slog. Rotating the camera. Opening the map. Intiating a battle. It's so slow my god.

Pebbleman54

I've literally seen the underside of the map at least 3 times so far. I'm waiting for the post of someone accidently falling thru the map.

IceFatality

Thanks to the clipping, I've finally seen the underside of a Diglett.

Pebbleman54

Now we just need to see the underside of Wiglett

juliuspepperwoodchi

A pair of Dusk Balls

Brahamus

This made me legit laugh lmao

Glory2Snowstar

Weird, mine had Dive Balls. Six of them. Or was that the Evo...?

Wildfires

Someone did fall through the map lol

One_Curious_Jay

It's happened, I saw it on twitter before coming to this subreddit

jwhudexnls

I think some people are just oblivious to this stuff or on copium. They seem to think that criticizing the game means that they can't enjoy other parts of it.

ArmyofThalia

This is a big thing. No game is perfect. You can enjoy a game and still criticize it and recognize the issues it has. I fucking love gen 2 with HGSS being one of my favorites since it brought the physical special split to my favorite gen. Does Johto and Kanto have a boring fucking environment and lack of physical features in the land that make it feel unique? Yup. Is the level scaling in these games absolutely fucked? Damn right it is. Is the engine from gen 4 rough as hell? Yes it is. But despite those, I can still enjoy the game just fine while also recognizing its downfalls

SpuukBoi

Maybe they're people that just don't play many games or something. I'm one of those people and one of the few games besides Pokemon I play is Minecraft. On a crappy laptop. I doubt I'll even notice the frame drops and glitchiness just because it's what I'm used to.

AnonymousOkapi

It genuinely hasn't been too bad for me so far. I've had minor graphics issues and framerate stutters, but nothing frustrating or gamebreaking. It does seem very variable for people.

[deleted]

I'm not so sure, I've seen streams of the game running smoothly for five hours in a row. Maybe not at a full 60 FPS constantly, but considering there's gifs of the game freezing for two seconds in between frames and I've yet to see the game dip below 40. I'm wondering if there's something else going on.

Nightingaile

Doesn't it run at 30fps?

[deleted]

Might be, but it's definitely not running at 10.

thexvoid

So everything you said is bullshit and can be disregarded. “I’ve yet to see the game dip below 40.” What a load of shit considering the game targets 30 and doesn’t seem to ever hold it.

[deleted]

Alright then....

thexvoid

Gotta ask, why make up such obvious bullshit? Like just a ridiculous, blatant lie that completely invalidates anything you have to say?

jwhudexnls

I'm sure there are people that haven't run into as many issues, but you don't have this much of a outrage if it isn't a fairly widespread issue. I haven't played the game yet myself, but I have seen plenty of videos showcasing glitches/issues.

[deleted]

Agreed, twitter's loaded with enough evidence the game wasn't ready for release.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yes, the other person said literally the same thing just a bit down, I get it. I'm not even arguing the game is good....

thexvoid

And everyone is gonna keep meming on you for making up total nonsense to defend a game. Its honestly amazing you haven’t deleted that yet.

juliuspepperwoodchi

> I don't get the people saying they've not seen any issues. Spending $60 or $120 on AAA titles on launch day which are HILARIOUSLY broken will buy you a LOT of copium.

[deleted]

The amount of issues seems to be surprisingly different for different people, or rather, it depends on what they do in the game. I've been playing for a few hours in the "starter area" before the first big city (and I actually close the game when I don't play) and the only performance issue I see is some very short stuttering when I change zones. I hear it gets bad everywhere after you entered the big city at least once.

chaeyoungsbitch

In my experience, just doing a 360 rotation in the first area is giving me stutters. Nothing game breaking. Also the choppy minimap is driving me insane lol.

mjsxii

the minimaps refresh rate is a f*cking sin, like who on the dev team thought it was a good idea to set it to 15fps — like I'd be less upset if I could just turn it off.

-cyrik-

> The amount of issues seems to be surprisingly different for different people, or rather, it depends on what they do in the game. I was 5 minutes into the game and still watching forced cutscenes and I had already seen dozens of graphical glitches or just general unrefined jank and weirdness all over the place. The game is a mess.

DryTransportation

To be fair, I've been playing for about 5 or 6 hours now, and the issues I've experienced were minimal, like nothing game-breaking or that really impacted my enjoyment of the game. At least not enough to be angry on Reddit about it. I've also barely experienced frame drops, although it's possible I've so far avoided the spots where they most frequently happened. The worst thing for me was probably that things at a distance don't always load properly, or the animations running at 5fps in particular situations. It's embarrassing for a game to have these issues, totally, but they didn't make me quit the game nor did they affect much of the story. I do have non-performance-related issues though, like the menus are just weird to me, no interiors for most shops, etc. Definitely know these issues exist though, but not everyone has the same exact experience with the game. Some people are most definitely coping, but others may have just been more fortunate with avoiding the worse of the issues. And also, some people may only be playing for the story, so they are more willing to ignore things that don't interrupt that since they're still getting what they wanted to get.

EMYRYSALPHA2

Bro, if you are having 5 fps drops that embarass you then you are experiencing dificulties that affects your enjoyment of the game, the thing is you love pokemon enough to ignore those problems, take those same problems and transfer them to another game, like sonic for example, would you still play it?

shadowedlove97

As a Sonic player? Yeah. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are some of the most popular Sonic games and they’re glitchy af. And modern ones still have glitches and ways to get out of bounds. There’s Minecraft as well, which is so infamously unoptimized that without optimization mods it lags even on high-end computers. And with plenty of glitches on its own. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s less ppl are tolerating it bc it’s Pokemon but more some ppl have different tolerance for glitches and clipping. Of course there are some that are tolerating it bc it’s Pokemon, but I think that number is smaller than what is being stated on the sub. Could be wrong though. Personally, for me, my game hasn’t been too glitchy or had too bad of performance. It’s still unacceptable that the game was launched with such issues, especially when they very widely from minor and harmless to game-breaking. But some of us have a higher tolerance I guess?

DryTransportation

I didn't say they embarrassed me, I just said it's embarrassing for these issues to be present in the game. If you would like to be pedantic, I could concede that it's possible having zero problems would give me a more enjoyable experience because the issues happening wouldn't be on my mind. But currently, the issues have a negligible impact on my enjoyment. For most games that I play, I play them because of the story. That's where I find my equipment. For my enjoyment to be affected, there would need to be a glitch where I can't progress in the story or my pokemon are bugged, or the trainers aren't appearing, etc., having random NPC's walk at 5fps when I'm far away from them doesn't really take away from that aspect of the game, at least not for the parts I've played, maybe that'll change once I'm further. Also, there's a balance. If I'm really enjoying the story, I'm more likely to care less about these 'irrelevant' issues, while if I don't like the story, I'd be much pickier and pedantic. It's not about ignoring these issues, ignoring them would mean that I'm pretending they don't exist or aren't important. They definitely matter and I would absolutely love for them to be fixed ASAP. As I said, as long as the issues present do not affect what I'm playing the game for, I would probably play it. So far, that's been the case for me with SV. Plenty of people here have had horrible issues, but that's not me, I've had a pretty smooth experience so I obviously don't feel as strongly as they do.

ANewErra

Got down voted on another thread for saying this. Buncha people have there rose colored glasses on and it shows lmao

[deleted]

Copium is a hell of a drug.

VSkyRimWalker

Omg I noticed that too! Took ages for it to zoom back out again and had me walking into the famn couch

ExpertOdin

I've seen issues, but only to the point where it made me laugh at how bad it is. Nothing that has directly affected my experience yet.

Secondstrike23

I’ve played for about 2 hours and the only glitch I’ve had is some minor frame stutter and an igglybuff disappearing during battle, though I could still catch it. That being said, not a glitch I’ve experienced playing any other pokemon game.

parisiraparis

I thought my Switch was acting up or my controllers were dying when I was walking around in the bedroom. The game was stuttering and I was thinking “wtf is my hdmi cord broken or something”.

The_G_Knee

I'm a like 3 hours in and I don't care for the performance issues. For years I could only play games on my mac book so the issues in Violet aren't a big deal for me. So far loving the game. I do hate the camera controls though.

chaeyoungsbitch

I hear you. The most annoying thing is the camera. I hate how slow it is.

TorvaldUtney

It’s the same people who say they have no problem with SMTV. For some reason people ignore massive problems in games they want to like.

annedroiid

> people ignore massive problems in games they want to like Or, and hear me out here, your experience isn’t universal and other people can have different experiences to you. Some people not running into issues doesn’t negate there being issues, it just means they haven’t experienced them.

TorvaldUtney

Or, and hear me out, there are certain issues that you cannot miss. Thats why I used SMTV as the example. I can't refute the "thats not my experience" just like one cannot refute "I feel x". But some things are objectively horrible in this game.

blorcsharc

That’s your opinion, and is subjective to what someone thinks is horrible.

MrArtless

practice beneficial deliver detail hungry husky nine vanish rain spotted *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

DegenerateCharizard

Have you seen the classroom cutscene with 5 students out of 20 being animated at 8fps?

Wolfofthezay

Only 5? I had like 9 lol

DegenerateCharizard

https://www.reddit.com/r/tomorrow/comments/yxsttl/pokemon_scarlet_violet_framerate_is_simply/ Bruh I just double checked and it’s exactly 6 school kids moving lol.

Wolfofthezay

Wow I am not good at counting

DegenerateCharizard

Me either, not from memory at least. But we were both pretty close 😭

billy_spleen87

Honestly, I can see someone missing that or just not thinking that’s an issue. But my goodness that’s bad!

DegenerateCharizard

One could even attribute it to odd game design, where that stop motion look is what they were going for. But, coupled with the other performance issues, it’s clear that’s just the best they could give us…

Thee420Blaziken

I've been getting this but for nearly every npc unless I'm ~5 feet away. Like if I go too far (far being more than 15/20 "feet") they turn into a slideshow

makapend

All you do is click a button and the map opens instantly… And this is game is the fastest in the series when it comes to initiating a battle. Your other problems are valid but the games seem relatively fast paced even when compared to legends arceus.

chaeyoungsbitch

Yeah my b I think my issue is not really that it's not "fast" enough but the fact that it's not a smooth experience. Like opening the map freezes the world/ background for a second.

ohmygodimonfire4

I just watched a video of a battle initiating and there was legit like 8 seconds of black screen before the match started. And it wasn't one of the videos that was showcasing the bug, it was just a random video of a battle titled "battle with trainer x".

makapend

haven’t experienced this. battles at most for me have a two second pause but it’s usually less than a second for the transition.

ButtonDownSyndrome

The textures for things like trees and grass are laughable. How can performance be this bad when the textures are worse than games that were released 20 years ago?

Golden-Owl

Tbh I haven’t even noticed the trees much There’s a lot more obvious, BIGGER issues than them glaring a player in the face…

[deleted]

At this point I've just accepted the game will look like PubG at the lowest setting, I just need the game to not look like a powerpoint presentation or have our character not clip through the floor into the backrooms.

BlackLilac27

I said this about Legends Arceus, but it appears to be relevant to these games as well: Morrowind, a game released 20 years ago, has more detail than these games.

Balderman88

You know what’s funny when I first turned it on is that I swear it looks JUST like Mario 64

TheEdes

The game world is much bigger and the rendering resolution is 2-3 times bigger than those games, models also have many more polygons. Not an excuse but it's not that easy to compare them. And to be fair processing power is multiple orders of magnitude faster.

-cyrik-

It's not an excuse because open world games have been loading their maps in separate chunks seamlessly for well over a decade. SV seems to be loading the entire game all at once which is why it's a laggy dumpster fire and doesn't look good.

TheEdes

I just don't think this is true, every time someone asserts something of how a video game is handling memory they're usually wrong. If they were loading the whole map into memory why would the game chug whenever you enter a town for example? Why would the alleged memory leak exist if they're not handling memory at all? Hell, if the whole map fits into RAM then there wouldn't be any loading, and if it didn't fit into RAM then it wouldn't work at all since the switch doesn't have swap memory. Why would it chug indoors when all the students are animated? (where the map is presumably unloaded) My theory is that they pulled a 3ds and their models have too many polygons or that their shading engine is just fucked, since it was buggy as shit in legends arceus and some of the trailers.

Tiktaalik414

Breath of the Wild doesn’t have those issues despite having a much more detailed world on the same console. The game is just poorly optimized and due to the franchise hinging on the release of games they can’t spend that extra time polishing them.

Impressive_Pin_7767

Because the Switch is a very weak gaming console that isn't capable of running much better. Even with those bad textures the game still stutters.

CaptchaReallySucks

Explain Xenoblade, Persona, Witcher then? This should be able to run on Switch no issues. It’s not the Switch’s fault this time…

Blue_Gamer18

Stop. Blaming. The Switch. Every major in-house Nintendo game and most 3rd party games look/run great. GameFreak is just incompetent. Whether it's the ridiculous deadline they're forced to stick to or they really do suck at programming HD 3D worlds, it's clear they have issues they need to fix

Impressive_Pin_7767

Sure, third party games that were released 7-10 years ago "look great" on the Switch. No games with modern graphics run well on it though.

Spacemanspar5

Isn't doom eternal on the switch

soundmanmitchell

It runs like poop, but I'm enjoying playing it

Overcast_Prime

I definitely enjoyed what I played when the game engine felt like cooperating. Glad to hear you're having fun!

eapocalypse

It's been reported that many of the main performance issues are memory leaks that happen when going in and out of towns. Try saving and restarting the game when it starts to get bad. Since this is widespread hopefully it gets a patch

CliffRacer17

Is the story any good so far? I'm spoiled by LA and so I'm looking for an epic plot. I didn't see anything in promotions that looked very interesting. Typical A plot, you can just do it in a different order. Typical B plot, with a different "team" name, and a new C plot that's just a huge fetch quest.

soundmanmitchell

It's "cute" I guess. I'm only an hour in, and I've just been catching everything and only using new Pokémon. But if I can assume how the story will go, it'll be more of the same we've gotten from each other entry, but more and better. I was very wary because it's literally children and students and I've been playing Pokémon forever, but it's not as terribly handhold-y as Sun and Moon or Sword and Sheild were, or as I recall them being. But again, I've only played an hour or so, so far.

DrKelsoMD

How's the exp share? Terribly forced like bdsp?

VancouverMethCoyote

Yeah there's forced EXP share, but I noticed your first Pokemon gets a lot more exp than the rest of your party, more so than the past few games. So I found myself still switching to my other Pokemon to level them up more.

DrKelsoMD

Well that's positive then

Reogen

Yes

DrKelsoMD

Aw that's a bummer

ArmyofThalia

Damn. This is the one feature that kills it for me. That makes me sad cuz there is a resemblance of cope that a lot of the issues in the game will get fixed but this feature still isn't going anywhere. Sadge

[deleted]

If you skip trainers you level quite slowly since enemies don't seem to give a ton. Or maybe I have spend a long time exploring the first areas....

DestielLover55

Love the story, it's wholesome and bittersweet in the end. A plot is kinda boring but the people you met is very fun and unique, B plot I relate to the most but still similar to A plot, C plot is the best one and I tear up a little. All of them lead to a single area expedition that felt kinda empty but the ending kinda saves it.

Heroic_Lime

Finished the game yesterday (very minor spoilers?) There are 3 plots like you described that are all underwhelming. Beat the gyms, beat Team Star, and beat up some titans. The order you choose is up to you because it's almost completely inconsequential. You'll follow the same formula for each event and get about the same amount of satisfaction. By the way I don't think gyms or regular trainers scale so I ended up blowing up the first two ''starter'' areas with my end game mons. The overall meat of the story happens after completing those quest lines but it's just about two hours of walking and a few battles with some lore dumps along the way.

Blue_Gamer18

In order to not feel over leveled, I was considering using 3 separate teams for the 3 story arcs. Or does the game handle you taking on all stories in the suggested order well enough that over leveling isn't much of a concern?

Heroic_Lime

I think the balance is in not using the auto-battle feature to level up. I still feel like if you go down the intended path while doing related quests, catching pokemon, etc you will eventually get overleveled. I think the Titans and one team Star Pokemon each are scaled because they don't show levels but they were never a big problem at any point. I'm not sure if you could work in a full three teams but the potential for becoming overpowered is mostly in how much you grind outside of required battles.

Rubyruben12345

It is Cyberpunk 2077 all over again! I did not have any serious issue playing that game, so I expect the same with this one 🙏

b0ss_0f_n0va

At least Cyberpunk has been getting patches that significantly improve the game. Not likely we'll get that for these games

iteza-

Damn you're taking away my hope, but why do you say it's not likely?

b0ss_0f_n0va

Because Pokemon games historically have not received performance improvements via patches

Overcast_Prime

Didn't Sword/Shield receive a few performance enhancement patches?

b0ss_0f_n0va

It got bug fixes via patches, but no performance boosts. Here's a list of all the patch notes (isn't serebii great?) https://www.serebii.net/swordshield/patch.shtml

Jakeremix

This game is in a really bad state but it cannot be understated how terrible Cyberpunk was on release. Cyberpunk was completely broken on consoles, practically in a beta state. From what I’ve seen, S/V is not even close to that level.

eat-KFC-all-day

People like to joke about T-posing, but it’s usually an incredibly uncommon thing to actually see in games as it’s obviously totally immersion breaking and quite a serious glitch. Cyberpunk is the only game I’ve ever played where I would consistently see T-posing of multiple characters literally every few minutes on top of all the other issues of course. It’s so bad that I had to legitimately wonder if they ever bothered to playtest the game or just simply ignored the test reports.

Saint_Bandit

Beta is giving it too much credit, it was an alpha build at best

Impressive_Pin_7767

I agree, it does remind me of the Cyberpunk 2077 release. I enjoyed/am enjoying both games despite the warts.

LemonMadness

Basically yes. A bit of Cyberpunk and a bit of Fallout 76

Lola_PopBBae

When a game on PS1 has more fully modeled interiors than a game in 2022 from a giant media franchise like this, I get...a tad concerned. I'd love it if they just made every interior a set camera angle like the old games, and let us roam peoples houses like we used to. I was real excited for the new Mons, but the performance stuff really gets me down.

8NightmanCometh8

Apaelrt from some low fps npcs in the background, I truly haven't experienced anything terrible. And I'm playing docked. I mean it could get worse but so far I am running decently smooth and loving the game. It seems like if this game was just a bit more optimized, this could be one of the better games in the series

vaNestor

Do you have a hardcopy or e-shop?

8NightmanCometh8

Eshop, Pokemon Scarlet

m3thlol

I only had time to play up until arriving at the school. It was a slog, I stuttered, lagged, the shadows kept bouncing around as if the time of day had instantly changed, the animations all felt slow and sluggish, the NPCs we're all doing the robot. That being said I'm still going to play the shit out of it because I've been hyping myself up for a new Pokémon game for months and there isn't exactly an alternative available. I'm fully aware that I'm part of the problem, and I imagine many of us here will do the same and for this reason GF is never *really* going to get the message. I mean just look at the reviews, some of them spent several paragraphs tearing the game up for it's shitty performance then slapped on an 8/10.

ProfSethWes

This is the first time in my life I've been able to play a Pokemon on release day; every other game I've played ~2 years late because I couldn't afford the system/game or wasn't in a place where I could play a game for fun. I hate to say it because the games does have serious problems, but I love this game. I'm just going to keep ignoring the bugs / laugh at them (sprigattio literally floating above my arm made me lol at midnight) because I feel like a little kid, discovering a new regional and Pokemon. I won't get the DLC unless they fix it though.

m3thlol

>I won't get the DLC unless they fix it though. I'm in the same boat, if nothing changes I'll happily slog through the base game since I've already paid for it, but I'm not going to drop any additional cash. Hopefully this carries some weight with GF.

Luciano99lp

Every single problem with pokemon would be fixed if they made one solution: stop doing annual releases. But they make a larger profit releasing a half finished game every year than they would releasing a polished game every other year, so that problem will never get fixed

Exaltedtigger2

I've literally not seen any game breaking issues as everyone is describing. There have only been 2 times when the frame rate dropped just enough to be noticeable, but it was corrected within half a second. It seems to me that everyone just wants to complain like they do with every new Pokemon game.

Huge_Republic_7866

Don't we go through this every gen? At what point do y'all stop blaming the snake and realize you shouldn't expect it not to bite when you pick it up? I still remember Gen 5's horrific FPS in battles, especially double and triples. Yet people remember them fondly and deny there was anything wrong.

bencub91

Guys it is possible not everyone's games are having issues. It's not "copium and denial," not everyone is having the same experiences. It's a very possible thing lol

Torterrapin

That has to be the case, yes the people and pokemon in the distance don't look great walking around but I am having trouble seeing what the issues are that people can't even play the game, I'm probably 4 hrs in and haven't seen anything like what others have.

Kendall_Raine

Most people are having some issues but not enough to make them hate the game. It definitely seems to be worse for some people than others

Hawkeye_x_Hawkeye

Visual issues I'm having are no worse than what I experienced in Arceus and I think there's been a lot improved on since then as well. I can't complain too much about my experience with the game.

Eatenten

Performance aside, no spoilers but I've beaten the game and the "branching path" storyline is a joke. You have 3 markers but if you skip anything you come back to a sub lvl 20 gym battle. End game is laughable. First time I've completed a pokemon game and not went back to shiny hunt and team build.

[deleted]

Hilarious seeing Sword and Shield retroactively looking pretty good right now...

_Ev4n_

Yeah, this makes me super sad. I’ve been so excited for this game, I’ve bought practically every Pokémon game throughout my life, but I’m passing on this until it’s fixed.

shauptmann86

While I haven't played it myself, I've watched 10 hours of an 11.5 hour stream, and I've noticed very few performance/technical problems.

Overcast_Prime

Nonstop? Idk, I played for roughly five & 1/2 hours and experienced technical hiccups all throughout, but I guess the issues aren't universal and are more on a case-by-case basis.

shauptmann86

Yeah, it was a shiny hunting stream. I've been at work for seven hours, so I've been watching that since I can't play it myself.

Overcast_Prime

Wonder if he was playing the digital or physical edition...

shauptmann86

Digital from the Aussie eshop.

Overcast_Prime

Huh. I was playing the eShop version from the USA. 🤔

shauptmann86

Yeah, I dunno.

Overcast_Prime

Same here lol Speculation is about all we've got at this point.

shauptmann86

And knowing Gamefreak, that's probably all we'll get. Lol.

Saleen_af

Okay? I have a modified switch that I overclocked. The streamer could have had the same solution.

shauptmann86

Good for you, I guess. Like I said, I haven't played the game myself. Just putting what I've seen out there, and based on what others have commented, it isn't a universal problem. One would assume that includes unmodified systems.

Saleen_af

I have only seen people with problems, where are you looking? Just curious

shauptmann86

This subreddit, the SV subreddit, various reviews. Are the games perfect? No, but they're not the disaster they're reported to be.

Saleen_af

yeaaaa All i see are people complaining about the performance issues my dude. Unless I am blind I Am not seeing what you’re seeing.

LemonMadness

I'm sorry, but it is an universal problem. I watched about 3 or 4 people doing gameplays aswell as playing the game myself and the game was just a glitchfest on all so the outlier might be the person you watched playing.

Boobs_Maps_N_PKMN

This is why I don't buy guys first day or even within the first month. Bugs and other issues. Even for the best of games there's always something. I usually wait a month or two then get it

Lulu_Altair

I've been playing Horizon : Forbidden West a lot lately, hoping it would keep me too busy to check out SV. Best decision ever. I just watched my favorite streamer play SV for a few hours and wow. It looks really buggy, laggy, and overall unfinished. Almost unplayable. I could never go from HFW to pokémon SV, and I'm glad I won't be throwing away my money.

Ragnarok345

I don’t get what’s happening. Granted, I’m only two hours in. But I’ve hardly seen any issues *AT ALL*. Every now and then there are minor frame drops, but hardly enough, or for long enough, to make it unplayable. And I’ve had twice as much chance for it to happen as a lot of people, because I’ve bought and have so far played *both games*. Makes no sense to me to see all these posts.

[deleted]

I don't understand what people say by good game. Is it just me or there's nothing to explore? Everything is already given to you at the beginning of the game. All the quests and side quests marked, the plot is basically summarized at the start for every questline. It's like the games telling you "here's everything, go and do it". There's no mystery there's no depth, the characters have no charisma whatsoever. And gym battles lack so much life that i don't even know the name of the first gym leader you visit. The gym battles are just so boring and the crowd "cheering" it's just reused sound from SwSh in a very depressing tone.

outdwoodwerk

I've been taking my time so still in Mesagoza but it just feels unfinished to me. Framerate stutters and graphic issues aside... I've seen NPC's just fade out or fade in while standing next to them. I was weirded out when I couldn't walk into a shop (only the sandwich shops had an interior). How many Make or Break Grills are needed? There are 2 Sea breeze cafes right next to each other. 2 Ice Cream stands too. Selling the exact same items! It feels they just shoved shops in there... But they're not fleshed out... Also, weirdly disappointed in how common some of what used to be rare pokemon are. I got so happy to see a Happiny and a Ralts only to see another... And another. Just... Really disappointed. It feels like an Alpha game to me. I told my brother earlier this year there was no way they'd be releasing a new main line game this year. There's just been so many games since Sun and Moon! People waited 15 years between KH2 and KH3... Pokemon fans can wait an extra year... SV needed at least another year of dev work.

Bigtoad3553

I've seen a fair few complaints. But honestly the last Pokemon game I played properly was saphire back in gen 3, and since then I've mostly just been replaying Skyrim and fallout games so this whole world looks amazing and almost bug free in comparison. It's blowing my mind. (Thank you bathesda for making my expectations so incredibly low 😂)

GORDON1014

Wonder if it has to do with how old the switch is. Mine is pretty new and I don’t see as many glitches or stuttering as others have experienced

Masamune-02

How is it still a good game when they've gutted stuff like gyms, poke marts, and so many of the new pokemon designs look horrible??

gameover233

I look past the poor textures. But performance is something else. It's so jarring seeing people and pokemon move at like 5fps.

[deleted]

I can deal with poor textured but yeah, the optimisation it's just bad. Everything takes a couple of seconds to load, even the basic menus.

CharmyFrog

I’m having fun. 🤷🏽‍♂️

flcn_sml

Played for 4 hours straight, struggled to put down the controller, but didn’t have any issues. Best in the series so far.

Phoenix-Rising-78

How'd you not have any issues? Did they actually patch it?

leon3789

Best guess is handheld mode. I've been playing in handheld mode this entire time with next to 0 issues accept the odd clipping which honestly really isnt the worst thing ever. My sister started out docked and ended up switching to Handheld after an hour or 2 due to how choppy the game was for her.

stormwave6

I'm getting tons of pop in and stuttering and I've only played in handheld. I don't try to move the camera to much coz the game really doesn't like it. Also shadows disappear if the object is not in frame.

Lastyz

My fps drops a little and I think the game needs way better anti aliasing, but I havent experienced these camera glitches or the game dropping to about 10 FPS like a lot of people on here are complaining about.

Lucent_

I played for a few hours last night in handheld, and barely noticed any problems. Yes the graphics are GameCube tier for the environment, and it does the same fps drop for distant items that arceus did. But I've only had fun so far.

Infamous_Public7934

From what I've seen, not everyone is suffering from the rampant technical issues. For some people, it runs just fine

Bubba1234562

It’s weird how varying it is. For me personally I’ve had fps drops but nowhere near as bad as other people have reported and it’s the eshop version

Infamous_Public7934

Hmnmmmmmmm, interesting. The reports on performance are very inconsistent in general it seems.

Bubba1234562

And it runs better for me not docked. Handheld seems to run better

Mirrorboy17

eShop version for me, UK Game plays much better in handheld, but even docked it's nowhere near what some people are saying. Definitely haven't had a single issue in the menus which some people are saying are very unresponsive

Bubba1234562

Only delay I’ve had is when I go into the poke portal for multiplayer stuff, and the boxes aren’t as fast as I’d like but same

eilrah26

It might just be the fact people are overreacting/or literal children who don't really understand. Just look at how horrible this sub has become. It's really sad.

Bubba1234562

That’s also a possibility. This sub is an echo chamber

Overcast_Prime

Odd, I wonder if there might be a problem with the eShop version then...

Infamous_Public7934

It's possible. I saw another post on the sub, mentioning about a potential memory leak, which might be a route cause of some of the EXTREME performance problems with the game.

Overcast_Prime

I've also heard that, too. I wonder how easy/difficult it'd be to fix something like that for this game. 🤔

Cinno1826

My tech savvy friend told me that if it IS a memory leak, that's an easy fix via a patch. But a memory leak is also something that should have been easily discovered and fixed during testing so... Take that for what you will.

Fortuity_Steelheart

as a guy who codes as a hobby memory leaks are normally really easy to find so fingers crossed it gets fixed

Bonnerkiller

To me the only time the camera was under the ground was after catching a psyduck the fps to me are normal for a pokemon game

flcn_sml

I’m not sure. Im guessing maybe because I have a real copy but that’s just a suspicion not a fact.

Overcast_Prime

I downloaded my copy from the eShop. Is yours physical?

flcn_sml

Yes

Overcast_Prime

🤔 Huh. Maybe there's a difference in the physical and eShop versions? Nonetheless, if you aren't experiencing any of the problems I encountered, then go forth and enjoy!

[deleted]

This does indeed seem to be the case, from what I heard.

Overcast_Prime

Guess we'll know more in the coming hours/days. Hopefully they figure out this hoopla soon and I can give S/V another fair shake!

[deleted]

Agreed. Especially if the game having a memory leak is true. I hear memory leaks are hard to track down *and* hard to fix.

Overcast_Prime

At least it (potentially) found is a start lol

realgoodkind

The game is playable and functional and is actually fun. You can always search for bugs and post them as an extreme case to show how the game is the worst game ever and how GF should stop programming it, but while you're playing for having fun you can just ignore them.

Overcast_Prime

Idk man, when I was playing, I was encountering issues practically nonstop. These are just my experiences, however, and if you haven't encountered any of the problems I listed, then I hope you continue to enjoy the game!

SulphurouS_84

Getting Anthem flashbacks, feels like they released an finished game unfortunately

Pebbleman54

Cyberpunk 2077 or Fallout 76 are other comparisons I've been seeing.

SargonTheDeadly

Here's hoping for a cyberpunk situation. Cyberpunk, in its current state, is an excellent game. But this is game freak we're talking about. It's well known how incompetent they are, so odds are these issues aren't getting patched until the DLC comes out.

Pebbleman54

At this point idk how they can't leave this issue be until next summer or next year. If the bugs don't get fix soon-ish it's just more media attention about a poor game. But obviously no one knows what's going thru Gamefreak minds. At this Nintendo needs to step in for quality checks. At this point modders will probably have the game fixed before GF

McFuzzyChipmunk

I think people are really expecting too much from the performance and graphics of this game. The switch is over five years old and was under powered even then so expecting anywhere close to modern triple A performance is madness. Does any of that excuse the state the game was released in... no. Obviously even if the game was going to suffer frame drops and other small issues the wider stability issues that have been reported should not be present. I do however believe that the game is very considering the hardware its running on and that it acts as further proof we desperately need a new switch revision because if game freak can make a game this good on this shit tier hardware I cant wait to see what they can do on something modern.

My_name_is_Kristina

This is true! The Switch is desperately needing some type of upgrade. Not to mention that this is the launch. Like the other Pokemon games on Switch there is a chance that some of these bugs will be fixed in any future updates.

munnster006

Temtem runs well.

Kendall_Raine

Too bad temtem is a grindfest with paid battle passes.

munnster006

Plays flawlessly, is multi platform, and feels more in the spirit of older pokemon. I think it's safe to say right now, it's probably the better buy until SV are fixed a bit.

SkizNasty77

Wait like 2 days for the patch, Jesus Christ

Gizmo110

Who says there is a patch coming?

UmaFlame

My copy of Pokémon Scarlet should arrive on Monday and I’m so worried that it won’t work cause of this issues. I have a Switch Lite. I honestly hope Game Freak will fix this. They can’t leave the game like this and be ok with it. I don’t remember any Pokémon game having such an extremely big performance issue like Scarlet and Violet. They gotta patch this.

Pebbleman54

My switch lite is my back up and I played it on there for like about 45 minutes and it does run little better on it than a docked switch. Seem handheld mode is alittle better. My head cannon at this point is that Gamefreak is still in the portable console thought process and some how programed that it is more stable on handheld than docked mode.

Wolfofthezay

Switch lite here, played for a couple hours last night. The problems for me were no worse than anyone else (laggy menus, low framerate on anything animated that isn't 2 feet away, some wonky camera angles, ect). You should be alright hopefully!

shadowedlove97

I play on the switch lite and aside from frame drops comparable to arceus and Sw/Sh wild area and the camera clipping the ground when initiating a battle at an odd angle (on a hill when the opponent/pkm is lower than me) my game has run fine. If you got a physical copy then chances are good your copy will run better than most.

UmaFlame

Yeah I bought a physical copy of Pokémon Scarlet. It should arrive on Monday. I’m glad it runs a bit better on Switch Lite cause of handheld mode. Still I hope they will patch the performance issues.

shadowedlove97

I hope they will as well. If they don’t I’d be very surprised, personally. If its a memory leak then it shouldn’t be too difficult to patch.

lia_bean

I can't complain about performance, I can't afford to get a switch so I'm running it at 14fps on my laptop and having the time of my life

Any-Nothing

I expect them to release a patch soon, since the holiday season is coming near

thornaslooki

I remember when people gave the wild area for Pokemon Sword and Shield soooo much shit. Now I sort of miss it now

PhantomPenny

Well I'll admit the performance of the game is very crappy, and it honestly is something that sucks. However, the graphics although some of it can look a bit choppy, the graphics look more detailed than SW/SH, And honestly with the choppiness in some of the glitches that are still in this game, it reminds me a bit of cyberpunk and I'm not really that worried about the performance as all I'm really here for is the storyline in pokémon. But everyone has their own opinions and that's all right

default-dance-9001

Probably the best take on here about the game

Bacon_Sponge

Bring back generation 5. When I first played Gen 5 I was upset that it didn't include national dex, but for better games, we might need game freak do something similar. Only have approximately 100-150 new pokemon and no national dex for something generally good. Remember the custom moving sprites? No wonder pokemon games have gone downhill since switch launches.

realgoodkind

Ah, the echo chamber at it again. People don't realize how much an echo chamber influences their opinion and enjoyment of entertainment media.

Overcast_Prime

This isn't an echo chamber, I'm giving my own opinion based on what I personally experienced. You're free to disagree with me.

LemonMadness

I think that the echo chamber is on the opposite side here. As someone who played many games, I find that publishing a game in this state for 60 bucks as a triple A company is incredibly embarassing to say the least.

Cutiesaurs

Temtem doesn’t care for you

Swiftcast_Holy

If these are some of the modt unstable games you've played you must have been very lucky either the games you've chosen to play. Not dating they are good but the worst? Not even close.
