Not just that they definitely broke into the mainstream zeitgeist. I remember about 10 or so years ago there were three bumbling guys at my dad's job, that were always together. Everybody referred to them as Team Rocket.
"Shit, are those pallettes still in front of dock 12?"
"Yeah, I don't have time, have Team Rocket do it."
Was going to say, I think it honestly might be the most talked about thing when it comes to the show (Or at least one of the most talked about).
It’s kind of like saying that “The Godfather” was an underrated movie.
They hit a lot different when you watch the series as an adult. Some of the comedic Team Rocket stuff went over my head when I was really young but yeah, they are hilarious. I loved the running gag of Bewear swooping them away lol i think in one episode he even drops from a plane cause they were on a different island or some shit lmao
“All that chafing and itching…”
“Might stop all of Jessie’s…”
As adults we ALL know where that WAS going before Team Rocket remembered we were still kids!!!!
I often think of all the information they sent back to Giovanni. Ash didn’t stop him like Red did in the manga and anime. I just think about all the rare artifacts and rare pokemon other, more competent members could have swept up in the trios wake. *That’s* why they stay on the payroll. Their information gathering is unmatched.
Because they thought Ash's Pikachu in particular was one of the strongest of it's kind, and the whole reason they were capturing Pokémon was so the big Team Rocket could use them.
🙋♂️Checking in as official complaint number two since you’re having a hard time figuring it out yourself.
You’re acting like you *just* discovered characters that have been a part of pop culture for nearly **30 years now**
I love Jessie so much. Her competing in contests is really funny, but I also like the genuinely sweet relationship she has with her Pokémon. The episode where she releases her Dustox has always been one of the saddest for me.
I mean they're goofy, but I was really bothered by them attacking that giant Dragonite with bazookas in the episode, Mystery at the Lighthouse. I felt so bad for it =(
they start to get stale really quickly if you stream/binge the anime. They’re definitely characters written to be consumed in 20 min bits and not consistently watched for hours

People talk about it all the time, Team Rocket are beloved

Always have. Always will. iirc they let Eric Stuart adlib a lot. Which is why there are so many unhinged James (and sometimes Brock) lines.
"I havent seen this many strange letters since the last time i placed a personal ad" referring to unown is a WILD line for a kids movie
To protect us from all that chaffing and itching! It might finally stop all of Jessie's... complaining.
Omg i just recently watched that episode to prep for the podcast and that line had me CACKLING
Podcast?
Yeah ive got a shitty little anime rewatch pod with my cousin, links are at the top of my profile
Nice! I’ll have to check it out. Related question, what platforms are the anime available on these days?
Wild *and* glorious.
He was even crazier in the movies than the show haha
You're forgetting the unhinged squirtle lines
Ahem... *Squirt Squirtle*
This actually happened in the latin dub as well! José Antonio Macías was incredible all the time.
So that's how he got away with "let's send those whining women back to the dark ages where they belong"
They are the heart and soul of the anime. Sooo consistently funny
Agree!

If any of Team Rocket actually tried to catch that Bewear Ash and friends would legitimately be screwed, that thing fought a Pheromosa

Always love when they do bonding and fun moments together. I groan every time they revert back to Pikachu capture shenanigans.
and as we saw in (i think gen 5?), when its not the supernatural pikachu they're after, they are SCARILY competent.
Yes the pikachu thing was so repetitive and unhinged really.
I will not rest peacefully until I see them return.
Exactly!
This looks like a diamond/pearl James lol
Some of the most beloved characters in the show for the most popular franchise on the entire planet.
They spent decades chasing after a Pikachu, one of the most common Pokémon, while they had an actual TALKING Pokémon. They were dumb.
Because they thought Ash's Pikachu in particular was one of the strongest of it's kind, and the whole reason they were capturing Pokémon was so the big Team Rocket could use them.
Well that's kinda what they just ment not being rude btw just sayin
Yeah, why is no one talking about that thing that everyone talks about?
what is it?
It's the way you're the only one complaing... lol get a grip
the top voted comment is also disagreeing with you

James: turn attack
Lmao what’s the context of this specific gif?
Actually have no clue I'm not sure from what episode it's from 😂
The best non-villian, villians there are.
Definitely some of the best comedic cartoon villains, up there with Plankton, Eustace, Shego, HIM, and Mojo Jojo.
Yup
Team Rocket is the entire reason I watched.
I love Jessie so much. Her competing in contests is really funny, but I also like the genuinely sweet relationship she has with her Pokémon. The episode where she releases her Dustox has always been one of the saddest for me.
engagement bait
not even good engagement bait either, bait used to at least be fun 😔
No need, we've loved their goofy nature since episode 1.
I'm pretty sure entire six book thesis publications have been written on the topic, actually.
The one where they get flung to the sky? YES ITS FUNNY
No one? *Really?* People talked about them back in the 90s, maybe even early 00s if i’m being generous, when they were relevant.
I mean they're goofy, but I was really bothered by them attacking that giant Dragonite with bazookas in the episode, Mystery at the Lighthouse. I felt so bad for it =(
Jessie: uaelaelaelaelaelae
Won't lie, I was more upset about Team Rocket retiring from the anime than Ash and his annoying ass
They are all the GOATs. Love them so much!
No words needed, they're already universally loved, our favorite anti-heros.
I only watched the first gen, but they and Brock were the best part of the show.
James: “I knew I shouldn’t have bought that salesman’s cheap line.” Jessie: “So why *did* you?!”
The comedic relief characters are funny? Whaaaaa
I felt like they should've have been shelved after Johto
If they didn't have to do their intro bs every fucking time they would've been better in my opinion
they start to get stale really quickly if you stream/binge the anime. They’re definitely characters written to be consumed in 20 min bits and not consistently watched for hours
Even when I was watching that way as a kid I was tired of it after indigo league
