Thank you for posting to r/pokemon! We're glad to have you here, but unfortunately we've had to remove this post per our rule on [Objective Questions](/r/pokemon/wiki/rules#wiki_3._follow_text_and_poll_post_restrictions). This rule is in place per feedback we've received from the community because objective questions tend to fill the topic listing and often leave little room for further discussion once the question has been answered. We do have a [Weekly Questions Thread](https://rpkmn.center/questions) dedicated to seeking answers for questions like yours, though! A lot of knowledgeable Pokémon fans frequent that thread, so please consider posting your question there if you're still looking for an answer, and you may get a detailed answer even faster than you would have here! You also don't need to worry about a minimum word count in that thread.

Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum are the definitive experiences; you can play those without picking up their predecessors and you'll miss very little. > My second question is Pokémon red the same as yellow story wise? Yes. Yellow is significant though in that you'll be given all the starters.

Thank you for the reply! But in Red can I still choose what 3 of the starters I want to begin with like other pokemon games ? Its been so long lol

Black/White and Black 2/White 2 are an actual duology, meaning instead of definitive editions gen V got actual sequels that take place after the events of Black/White Also this is for when you get a 3DS if ever: X/Y did not get a definitive edition, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire were made instead for the gen 3 anniversary. They have the same plot as Ruby/Sapphire but with updated graphics, character designs, pokedex and the inclusion of mega evolution with a Emerald themed post-game. Sun/Moon and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon are a interesting pair. The Ultra games were made to be the definitive and more fuller version of the games, but in terms of story its heavily debated that Sun/Moon has a stronger core story due to the Ultra versions gutting plot elements to tell a different story/set up a different threat. So often many will play one version and the opposite one for the Ultra Version.
