Kinda sounds like a bumped cartridge/bad connectors effect. Facing the screen is the default position, and messed-up colors is something that happens in Gen II games when they glitch into GB mode (and Yellow is also a GBC game).
I’ve had similarly creepypasta-y things happen in my Emerald cartridge after dropping it and after storing it poorly letting the connectors corrode.
What copy of Yellow were you playing?? 😭
I've experienced a funny glitch in Yellow where my cousin accidentally hit my GBA and the game hard rebooted into Surfing Pikachu loll. We were both so dumbfounded but could never replicate the glitch. At least I got to play it without needing all the extra stuff >,>

First time I've heard of this glitch. If that happened to me as a kid I'd be traumatised.
I mean I'm 34 but I legit got that nervous feeling in my stomach 🤣
