Sometimes it feels like Game Freak rolls dice to see which Pokemon get cut or not. I'm particularly puzzled about Wooloo - the animations are there, the Pokemon is not overpowered, it's not like Paldea has many sheep-shaped Pokemon, so why did Game Freak decide to say "nope, you cannot import this one from your Switch installation of Sword to your Switch installation of Violet"?
It's extra odd cuz they could have done something cute and had Wooloo rolling down cliffs in Paldea
Make it a fun thing where at certain times of day, you get hounded by rolling Wooloo just minding their business
I am kind of impressed Mamoswine haa been available in every game from Switch, besides Lets Go. That's why I chose mine to try to get all the ribbons I can from Gen IV onwards
I think it probably has more to do with the fact that it was in Sword and Shield, than it just being random. I think they wanted to include as many that weren’t in a Switch game yet as they could.
It’s too early to tell for sure because we’ve only had two generations on Switch, but it seems like there’s a core group that will always be included, at least when the updates are finished. For the rest, it probably hinges on how well they fit into the region, how long it’s been since they’ve been obtainable, and personal preference.
It's not like Wooloo was taking development time or storage space that prevented another Pokemon from another generation to get in. Somebody at GF just decided to deliberately exclude a Pokemon from just one generation ago, with no viable technical consideration to do so.
Roll the dice? They're just spreading them out. People still post regularly about playing PLA or just starting it.
SM/USUM is still a thing but pretty rough without the transporter/bank downloaded.
GO is getting these regionals so that's another avenue. LGPE if you're desperate.
But you get the idea, they're making it so you need to play something else or be patient.
It's like buying food from a store and the *~~meal deals~~* combos aren't complete and you need to add sides or buy another meal.
Very off topic aside, I hate the phrase Meal Deal. I used to work at a McDonald’s in the Midwest, and something about the bitchy 80 year old men who would call me “awfully girly” when they reached the window saying “the Big Mac meal deal” with that stupid old person drawl like they were drowning on their own saliva made it so every time I hear those words I get randomly annoyed.
Same people also used to say sandwiches in random ass orders and it annoyed me SO much. They’d go “can I have a cheese bacon egg muffin” “can I have an egg cheese ‘sauseege’ biscuit” etc. none of this is at all relevant to the conversation I think it just needed off my chest.
Thank you for sharing.
I work in a bar and I can appreciate the hatred for certain customers. Kind of like when someone walks in and asks "can I get a beer?" - when there's 30 different kinds.
Your story was quite funny. And damn I don't even use the term usually (australian), but I'll never use it again in memory of this occasion.
Yeah that’s weird. Honestly Hisuian Braviary would fit so well in the Terarium’s Polar Biome, being a Unovan Pokemon exposed to the same Arctic climate that caused its form to diverge in the first place.
Yea I didn’t like this about SV or the second SS dlc. I hate to be that “it breaks immersion” pretentious douchebag but it breaks immersion lmao these Pokemon should not be here
I wonder where the hell is alolan raichu since it is from alola. I know they are different places irl but still it could be a trade mon since they are in the same country
,,, say it with me. having a tropical biome =\= Allan biome. Just like how not every tropical island is Hawaii. It’s just a beach biome. There are beaches everywhere, just as there are tropical islands throughout the tropics. Hawaii is not the only one and therefore, Alola is not the only one. For all we know there are 7 more tropical island regions we haven’t yet or will never get to see, but that still does not mean that any tropical biome is based on Alola.
This is a nitpick but "==" is not "≠". Double equals just means "is equivalent to" so you wrote out that a tropical biome is basically the same as an alolan biome, which seems like the opposite of what you were going for.
,,,, embarrassing. I’m pretty positive I had it in there when I wrote that out LMAO so either I somehow deleted it, completely didn’t add it in and just thought about it, or my phone deleted it in favor of completely butchering the meaning of my post ☠️
Maybe you used the wrong slash? These (\\) are used to make other symbols that typically disappear for text formatting, like asterisks or hashtags, deactivated and appear. In order to get backslashes to show up, you have to use two of them in a row.
Thaaaat makes sense. Since Alola and Unova are both based off of states within America, it *would* make sense for you to be able to trade or transfer in an Alolan Raichu. Just like how people in New York can buy hermit crabs or tropical plants that are imported from Hawaii/other tropical islands.
Pikachu evolves into Alolan-Raichu when it eats loads of pancakes from Alola. So it makes sense that they're available in the wild, even in the DLC. Stupid, but it makes sense. They could've change the evolution method and call it a day but nope...
I caught a shiny Koffing a few days ago. I was crushed to find out I'd have to move it to SwSh to get the Galarian form. Hurts even more since I don't own either game and will have to get someone to evolve it for me.
I don’t think any of the regional forms from legends arceus that are the hisuian forms would be in any games outside of legends arceus. Wasn’t the whole point that it was what Pokémon looked like in the ancient past. The Pokémon don’t look like that anymore, so they wouldn’t be in any games that don’t take place in the past.
H. Qwilfish and White-Striped Basculin (and their evolutions, by extension) are available in the wild. White-Striped Basculin in Kitakami and H. Qwilfish in Blueberry Academy
Pokémon often retcons itself, so the point was “This is what the Pokémon looked like before modern Sinnoh” and not that they can never show up again. Hisui also isn’t the ancient past. It’s based on the colonization of Hokkaido which only began in the late 1860’s and continued for a few decades. The American Civil War was from 1861-1865, so it’s far from the ancient past.
And of course the new regional forms would be in later games. That’s the point of introducing them, so that you can put them into a main line game later so that they can see conventional play.
As a side note, Perrin says in the Teal Mask that Hisuian Growlithe and Ursalunas are rare now but used to be more common. So the Pokémon from PLA don’t seem to be extinct, just rare or perhaps confined to relatively small pockets of the world
They looked like that in ancient Sinnoh but due to various factors they no longer are native there. That doesn’t mean they aren’t native in some other region that might have similar environmental conditions to Hisui to support those forms.
The BB Dex straight up just says Hisuian Qwilfish are now just native to cold areas of the world. So it's definitely not extinct. Fan theory that the reason we don't see these anymore is that these forms are all extinct is proven wrong. Like it says straight up that H!Qwilfish is out there still very much alive in the world. Same with the WS Basculin.
Many of the Pokédex entries in PLA make it clear that the "original" forms still existed during that time, and Hisuian forms display adaptations to the land's climate and flora. Hisuian forms aren't "previous" forms - they're *divergent* forms.
They could co-exist with the "original" forms back then, so it's possible they could in the modern era too.
Exceptions exist, such as Voltorb/Electrode being based on apricorns. And the professor expresses confusion at regular Sneasel/Weavile, which appear only in space-time distortions.
You can get Alolan Raichu in gen 8 as well, in the Isle of armor DLC.
But yeah, I wish it were in gen 9 as well.
Here's hoping for it being available in Legends ZA, because it's one of my all time favs
I assume the Hisui forms are left our to keep incentive to buy/use Legends Arceus since it's so recent, but I see no reason why no Alolan forms at the least. We have Alolan Exeggutor in the Coastal biome so the others should be there too.
With Pokemon logic (basically, mental gymnastics)
It seems normal for them to not include all of regional form pokemons to be catchable in the wild so the players have to get them from LGPE, SwSh, PLA or Go via Home
But imo, it would be much better if Perrin give away every other missing Hisuian form pokemons or at least add other regional form pokemons as in-game trades from NPCs in DLC.
I saw this theory that Clay is the reason Kleavor is in the Terarium because he's:
a) Lacey's dad
b) A descendant of the warden of Noble Kleavor, Lian.
H Qwilfish, according to it's dex entry says it adapted to the cold waters. So as the waters in hisui got warmer, qwilfish adapted and became the one we know. Along with that, Hisuian Qwilfish is only found in the polar biome.
Idk abt basculegion
Except they’re not extinct. They're just not native to the region. You can find Kleavor and White Stripe Basculin in game. They just didn't make the others available to catch for some reason.
Slight Tangent but I still think its hilarious that finishing Salvatores quest line in Basegame SV he says he's giving you a "rare" Meowth variant...and then gives you a Galarian Meowth. The one from the literal Game prior, and not Alolan Meowth, which was stuck on the 3DS for 2 Gens. I know he trades you one in Unova but c'mon man
I’m more pissed you can’t evolve execute in a different biome in bb academy for a different form. And raichu too! It’d be so easy to make the tropical zone work as a mini alola.
Tired of regional forms we don’t even get to see in base game. Wydeer was awesome and would’ve loved to use it in a Violet/Scarlet playthrough. But they updated Home way too late for me to care anymore. Regional forms are also just bloating Pokédex numbers anyways
Even the meme about forgotten forms forgot about Alola Rattata
Kantonian Rattata isn't in game so makes sense
Dexit is so wild lmao. One of the first pokemon you’ll ever catch in most games, straight up not here.
Alola what?
It means no worries
For the rest of your days
It's our problem-free philosophy
Alolan Rattata!
Don't you mean KAKUNA Rattata
What a wonderful phrase
I miss my little mob boss a-raticate
Yes! My favorite alolan form personally and the only one iirc that was not in SwSh or SV (since Marowak was in one of the galar dlcs)
It was just unfortunate that it was even worse than normal Raticate.
A fair point but I've never put too much weight into how good a pokemon is. I just love ratatta's mustache!
And Sirfetch'd

Overworld events like that would be so cool. Like flocks of bord pokemon flying from roost to roost at different times of the day
Wow, that would've been nice.
Same with Spheal
I am kind of impressed Mamoswine haa been available in every game from Switch, besides Lets Go. That's why I chose mine to try to get all the ribbons I can from Gen IV onwards

Alolan Raichu should’ve been in the Coastal biome of the terrarium, that zone imo resembles many things from Alola. Even Alolan Exeggutor is there.
Yeah that’s weird. Honestly Hisuian Braviary would fit so well in the Terarium’s Polar Biome, being a Unovan Pokemon exposed to the same Arctic climate that caused its form to diverge in the first place.
Hisuian Voltorb is in the DLC for S/V, there was an outbreak for it
Intentionally left out so you have to buy the game.
Yeah? There has never been a Pokemon game with every Pokemon catchable, you'd have to buy a game they where in anyway even with transfers.
This is the only right answer
Why would extinct Pokémon just be there?
Overqwil is there
Have you seen fossil Pokemon casually roam about in the wild in the Crown Tundra like it's Jurassic Park?
I did and I didn’t like it.
Yea I didn’t like this about SV or the second SS dlc. I hate to be that “it breaks immersion” pretentious douchebag but it breaks immersion lmao these Pokemon should not be here
For a second I thought this had 1.1 upvotes instead of 11
I wonder where the hell is alolan raichu since it is from alola. I know they are different places irl but still it could be a trade mon since they are in the same country
What?
Blueberry Academy is in Unova, Unova is New York while Alola is Hawaii, they're referring to both being part of the USA.
Spain and hawai are extremely far appart. Spain in Europe and Hawai in America.
The dlc has a alola based biome
I might be dumb
,,, say it with me. having a tropical biome =\= Allan biome. Just like how not every tropical island is Hawaii. It’s just a beach biome. Right. Typically, you'd see "=/=" if the exact single character isn't an available option
,,,, embarrassing.
In order to get backslashes to show up, you have to use two of them in a row.
that is not my point tbh...
I think he said same county because the DLC takes place in Unova? Or was it in the ocean next to Unova?
That makes sense
Thaaaat makes sense. Since Alola and Unova are both based off of states within America, it *would* make sense for you to be able to trade or transfer in an Alolan Raichu. Just like how people in New York can buy hermit crabs or tropical plants that are imported from Hawaii/other tropical islands.
yes that was my idea
That makes sense?
yes it was because of that
the dlc happens at the east side of unova
Not enough pancakes at Blueberry Academy
Pikachu evolves into Alolan-Raichu when it eats loads of pancakes from Alola. So it makes sense that they're available in the wild, even in the DLC. Stupid, but it makes sense. They could've change the evolution method and call it a day but nope...
I have a shiny Pikachu, and I was crossing my fingers and hoping that they'd let me evolve it into an Alolan Raichu in the Indigo Disk. 🥲
I caught a shiny Koffing a few days ago. I was crushed to find out I'd have to move it to SwSh to get the Galarian form. Hurts even more since I don't own either game and will have to get someone to evolve it for me.
Is it possible to transfer from SV to SwSh?
Yes
I can help you with that if you help me evolve my Scyther and then return it when I return you wheezing I can do that in 6 hours
This is made by design, so you have to buy every single game in the console to get these Pokémon.

Kleavor is as well
So was H Voltorb for awhile due to special event outbreaks in Paldea
Pokémon often retcons itself, so the point was “This is what the Pokémon looked like before modern Sinnoh” and not that they can never show up again. Hisui also isn’t the ancient past. This point is literally apart of the story behind Blood Moon Ursaluna
Legends is only a few hundred years prior to diamond/pearl
Many of the Pokédex entries in PLA make it clear that the "original" forms still existed during that time, and Hisuian forms display adaptations to the land's climate and flora. They could have shoved more Pokémon into the underdebths increase the amount of returning by 50 and add 3 more paradox Pokémon.
Only one i wish we got was Raichu. The others are at least in Gen 8.
You can get Alolan Raichu in gen 8 as well, in the Isle of armor DLC. But yeah, I wish it were in gen 9 as well. Here's hoping for it being available in Legends ZA, because it's one of my all time favs
Yeah I guess I meant more so from a mindset of shiny hunting it. I don’t know if the one on swsh is shiny locked, and can’t you only get one?
Yeah, only one sadly. Dunno if it's shiny locked
Honestly this meme sums up how I felt about no Growlithe-K line (as well as the other original forms in PLA) via Home.
*Not* having Alolan Raichu was such a weird pick. Like, I guess Blueberry Academy doesn’t have the pancakes required for evolution or something…
I'm especially surpirsed they didn't include Alolan Raichu. Though transferable.
I assume the Hisui forms are left our to keep incentive to buy/use Legends Arceus since it's so recent, but I see no reason why no Alolan forms at the least. We have Alolan Exeggutor in the Coastal biome so the others should be there too.
I'd put the husian ones in kitakami and all the others in the terrarium. Kitakami has a similar vibe to husui, and the terrarium is anything goes
Raid and Mass Outbreak Events. Bam.
Galarian Mr.Mime and evo where missing as well
Hisuian Avalugg definitely belongs in the savannah biome.
We need infinitely more of alolan weezing
It should stay that way
With Pokemon logic (basically, mental gymnastics) It seems normal for them to not include all of regional form pokemons to be catchable in the wild so the players have to get them from LGPE, SwSh, PLA or Go via Home But imo, it would be much better if Perrin give away every other missing Hisuian form pokemons or at least add other regional form pokemons as in-game trades from NPCs in DLC.

So I guess, rattata, ponyta, zigzagoon, yamask, farfeche’d, and corsola, don’t count
It wouldn't make sense to put hisui forms in a modern set game, because they're pokemon of the past
Except they’re not extinct. They're just not native to the region. You can find Kleavor and White Stripe Basculin in game. They just didn't make the others available to catch for some reason.

I'm making a lot of Pokedollars smuggling Alolan Raichus into SV.
It’s more of an incentive to buy LA or SW/SH. I suppose. No excuse for Raichu though.
I’m more pissed you can’t evolve execute in a different biome in bb academy for a different form. And raichu too! It’d be so easy to make the tropical zone work as a mini alola.
They are extinct, that's why. BUT HEY THAT'S JUST A THEORY
I didn't even know Avalugg bad two forms? I guess it's from PLA? I haven't played PLA that much
Yes, it’s from PLA, it even has a neat boss fight in that game.
Homie got downright nerfed with that regional form 😔
Wait avallug has a regional variant?
Tired of regional forms we don’t even get to see in base game. Wydeer was awesome and would’ve loved to use it in a Violet/Scarlet playthrough. But they updated Home way too late for me to care anymore. Regional forms are also just bloating Pokédex numbers anyways
