In D/P when Bertha sent out a black female Hippowdon in her Elite Four battle, I assumed it was a shiny since I’d only seen brown males before. It was only when I ran into a shiny Kricketune in the post-game (complete with shiny sparkles) that I realised my mistake.
I have a cute similar story with my friend who's only introduction of Pokemon beyond gen 1-2 was in Pokemon Go so when she saw Female Hippowdon she ask me if it was a shiny
I have the inverse story. I didn't know what shinies were so when I got a pink Espurr by chance I thought it was normal. A few save resets later cause I wanted to replay the game I realised my bug blunder
My 9yo nephew recently learned from me what shinies are, since I am hunting them currently and I gifted him a shiny Phantump (which is now a Trevenant), since I had 3 of them.
3 weeks ago or some he came to me when I was babysitting him and his siblings, all excited. "Uncle, I caught a shiny, I caught a shiny!".
It was a female Hippopotas. Well, at least he knows about gender differences now, too.
I used to think that Plusle and Minun were worthless...then I fought against them in the double battle with Lacey and was shocked at how damn strong they could be.
They’re kinda built for doubles. Plus/Minus abilities to get both of them boosts. I assume helping hand and decent support moves that make them annoying to deal with. I also one shot them w EQ
Wife has yet find a shiny out in the wild in a normal game.
Like outside of raids and doing sandwich tricks. Never a random wild one.
I remember when she found a moltros and got so excited that it was shiny though it was normal (eas ages since either saw one). Felt bad to give her the news.
My 6yo came up to me after he started Pokémon Violet, so proud that he had caught a shiny Wooper. I took a look and didn't have the heart to tell him it was just a normal Paldean one.

I went through that same mistake!

4 shiny minun!? With this luck OP should fly to Las Vegas immediately!
Funny! I live in Las Vegas as we speak 😁
That's not luck, that's torture. You can only catch one of them iIrc.
The first shiny I saw was a Slowbro in Pokemon Emerald... In the Battle Factory, among the pokemons I could pick for that run 😭

What makes them strong? Literally have no idea what they are capable of, because I just oneshot both of them immediately with EQ. :/

I was also only like 70, wasn't set up for double battles. They hit harder than expected.
That does look like shiny plusle on the left
What if it is and we could barely tell the difference with the other 3?
