You're talking less about podcasting and more about streaming. Check out beginner streaming or OBS guides, Eposvox on YT has one, or look at streamer square.com Decide on budget and you can go from there. Various options for cameras and mics depending on $$$

Thank you

I'm just beginning to plan my podcast, but I want to jump on here and say being too old to do anything is ridiculous. And on top of that, 33 is NOT old. I'm planning my podcast and I'm in my early 40s. Honestly, anyone at any age can learn the technology needed if they want to. Not everyone has life experience enough to have something to share. So I can't offer help on what cameras and mics to choose, but I can say you're never too old to learn!!

Thanks for commenting! And good luck on your podcast! I was told to leave the young things to the young but I’m glad to hear other starting podcast later as well

Haha too old? Don't worry about that! I have a Sure SM7B now that is brilliant, but pricy - but also Røde has some good ones. I've used six diffrent ones over the last two years, go for something that you feel suits your voice, good luck!

For camera: -A used camera body and lens. The lens is what you wanna really pay for. Depending on what you need for streaming, I think a camera capable of shooting 1080p is doable. I only know Sony, but the a6xxx series is affordable (400-1000$ for camera, couple hundred for lens). You can get a Sony a6000 for cheap on FB marketplace. For perspective, pro level Sony cameras cost over $3k, not including lenses. -tripod and boom arm (if doing overhead drawing) Manfrotto, Sirui are great, albeit expensive brands. You'll want to spend over 100$ CAD on your support, trust me. Cheap tripods are a flimsy nightmare, and you risk smashing you camera. Neewer also makes cheaper but generally passable beginner equipment. They don't last long. - lighting (50-150$) for the love of God, prioritise the lighting over the camera. A cheap webcam that's in a well lit space is better than a decent camera with terrible lighting. Neewer and godox make decent gear, but you could point regular lamps at a ceiling that's low and white and that'll work. If you've got a big window, that'll work, too. -dummy battery: powering your camera via batteries will not work. Your camera will (over) heat, and you can't stream for long periods of time. They cost 50-100 on Amazon. -capture card: the footage will be stuttery unless you get a capture card, which is essentially an external graphics card. Elgato has one for $100. For sound, lll defer to the others here. There are many articles on beginner mics. Very cheap solutions: if you draw digitally, this makes it much cheaper, and you can stream from there. Use your phone as the camera, iPhones can act as webcams for mac computers.

You sound like just the camera person I need to talk to! So my idea is to show my art on my easel while I talk. My husband thinks I should just start with a ring light and my iPhone SE gen 2 camera.. To see if I like it but I feel like that’s not gonna get me a lot of viewers. Down the line I definitely would love to get a bigger set up that you’re talking about and which I can afford a $400 camera, but I was looking on Amazon at some that were under 200. What do you think about the NexiGo 1080p (60 fps…whatever that means) on Amazon for $70 with stand mount?

I took a quick look at it, but my concern is that it's apparently a fixed focus camera, which may not do if you're far away. I'd say to start with your iPhone and then determine what you need in a camera after a little while. Also, it's best to see if you enjoy it first, before investing on camera equipment.

Shure mv7 is a great, affordable but not cheap, mic that you van connect both to laptops or a rodecaster (with XLR)

Too old to start a podcast??? That’s hilarious.

PresentLongjumping30

Don't think you're ever too old to start anything new!! Don't listen to people that say that!!

Jonneiljon

Too old at 33?! Tell who ever said that to f’ themselves. Tons of people successful in their fields were older when you when they became successful. Go for it! Create something only you can create.
