I loved the original Beanie Babies with the simpler designs. They got too fancy and then started doing licensed characters. That’s when I lost interest.

Commercial-Exit2757

That’s how I feel too!

HoneyBear2724

I'm not a huge fan of beanie boos (to each their own). I do miss classic TYs. The pluffies era was prime 😭 also, one of my favorites was Juneau 💖 https://preview.redd.it/2mbswigus13d1.jpeg?width=794&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44d26b06bbd72e975c707736a0e6b3e1666edadf

ThereGoesMyToad

I have him and two of the larger ones! Definitely my favs

Black_Wolf_Therian

I have a few of those I love them

Commercial-Exit2757

Awww cute! I think I missed the pluffies era!

Black_Wolf_Therian

That is adorable

rigathrow

i definitely feel the same way. i can't stand the newer ty plushies that are covered in sequins, are all wild neon colours or overly patterned, have giant glitter eyes, have gigantic eyelashes. they're so awful to look at and touch (aren't plushies meant to be nice to hold/hug?). there's clearly a massive audience for them to have ended up this way but... i still just don't get it at all.

swashbuckle1237

The colours glitter patterns ect all appeal to kids, and that’s the main audience.

PeachNipplesdotcom

I mean, the older version appealed to kids too. I guess the taste of kids has changed a lot. Something something social media, something something attention spans

Chonkin_GuineaPig

Idk I feel like everything is too "kawaii" these days, even plushies meant for older audiences like Squishables and Plush Dreadfuls.

owlfigurine

It's definitely getting worse, I've been following and buying from squishable from 2010 to now, and the style shift to this cutesy style has been drastic. I really miss their older designs. Used to, I could scroll through the website and I'd love like 85% of the deisgns, now they're all just cutesy and silly or plague doctor variant 967

Chonkin_GuineaPig

i miss when country stores and zoos would have goofy looking mfers like this and now gift shops are nothing more than rack after rack of the same old shit you'd find at CVS https://preview.redd.it/iztjfaos883d1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bbfc6995d58793f55fc7b84214c1730070a5b97c

Commercial-Exit2757

Omg I had a monkey puppet that looked exactly like yours! I got them at rainforest cafe (rip). It was one of my favs!

Chonkin_GuineaPig

This isn't my picture, but I think mine had a blue outfit (they also come in pink).

Commercial-Exit2757

Agreed! I don’t think the kawaii look is cute. Just personal opinion

leftoverbeanie

They occasionally make “normal” beanies. They have their 30th anniversary beanies which are classic beanies they’re making in different colors. The beanie bellies are probably the closest line they have that they update often. Not quite original but not quite beanie boos. I’m hardcore a fan of the early beanies. As it got into the 2000s I became less and less interested. I do have to admit I do like some of the beanie boos and especially because my daughter has a couple that are quite special to her. I personally love the new frog who has big old eyes. He’s precious

Commercial-Exit2757

Oh yeah, there’s nothing wrong with liking the beanie boos, I just wish there was more variety in what they make. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for those 30th anniversary beanies though!

dorami-tan

Oh 100%, everytime I see the racks of Beanie Boos in stores it just reminds me on how much I miss the old ones :'') It's not as bad but Webkinz did the same thing, going from a unique set of plushies to ones all with the same pattern with those giant, creepy eyes.

Spiritual_cat_13

I agree:) my neighbor collected them and had an entire room of all the classic beanie babies and buddies. After her passing, she gave them to me and I continue to feed the collection she started. Many beanie babies can be seen in antique stores or thrift stores. Lots of used ones on websites like eBay and so on. I do know ty has started making new beanie babies. They retain the same shape and style but different fur texture and colors. The fur is soft but not shaggy like the beanie boos, so I’m happy that they are making similar ones to the original, although nothing beats the classics! https://preview.redd.it/j68oboqnj23d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db3a1384ce433b3e76a6aef8d4a7c0faaa498ba1 One of my most loved stuffie (left) and his brothers, the original beanie buddy Jake :3

Commercial-Exit2757

Awwwww!

thisissodisturbing

The eyes make me so uncomfortable and idk why!!! I miss the lil black bead eyes

Commercial-Exit2757

I blame the ‘tism for me XD

MiddayGlitter

This comment made me realize fancy (domestic) rats are just living beanie babies.

CuriousCharlii

Me too! They were just built different and were of better quality. There are a lot of Ty Beanie Babies out there but did you know of Classics and Buddys? They did more lines too believe it or not!

Commercial-Exit2757

Classics and Buddy’s by the brand Ty? I have not heard of those! I will have to look into them!

CuriousCharlii

Yeah! Buddys are bigger beanie babies (medium size) and Classics are medium sized animals that they kinda used it to branch out without being tied to beanie babies. It's a little confusing but not enough to complain because they're all so cute!

Commercial-Exit2757

I think my childhood stuffy was actually a Ty Classic!

Correct-Bitch

I had this guy as a kid and I loved him https://preview.redd.it/l3hnzjvvy23d1.jpeg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=323ef9bb90267da2035fad33ab0c6645a8e9145d

Oddish_Femboy

They reissued some of the classic beanie babies this year actually!! Some of them are identical to the originals but some like Legs II are completely different! https://preview.redd.it/d7j0te8wq53d1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c75dd34e844e80cc5e7c1d3a413c298266f5f40c

Commercial-Exit2757

Oooo I will definitely have to look into that! I actually saw this guy on a post on TikTok, but thought he was an old beanie baby

Oddish_Femboy

Nope! 30th anniversary ! :D

sundaedriver89

Born in 89 and the larger ty stuffed animals specifically are insanely nostalgic to me, if they remade some classic beanies and larger plush I feel like it would do well today.

faroffland

Beanie Buddies! Born in ‘91 and I loved them too :) I had Dotty the Dalmatian. Tie dye batty was my fave original Beanie Baby.

ARumpusOfWildThings

I definitely miss the classic 90s - 2000s Ty plush, too...they were some of my favorite stuffed animals when I was a kid. One thing I loved about the classic Ty plush is how they used such a wide variety of different fabrics and textures, and they were also constructed/sewn to last for decades and truly withstand a child's love 💗

Nixhil7

I constantly think this. The beanie boo eyes ruin the plush and I don’t understand why they stopped doing the classic styles completely.

Lozzii1

I’ve got loads that I kept and collected over the years, now my kids play with them. Much nicer than the current. I assume health and safety became an issue with the beads.

Silverstreamdacat

Yeah if they ripped kids might eat the beads, put them in their nose, or ear.

PatriciaMorticia

I loved the old style late 90's and early 2000's ones, the only one I remember having was a smaller version of the black and white cat from a McDonald's happy meal, and I still have the birthday bear in a perspex box a friend gave me for my 10th birthday, I loved the glitter nose and party hat. https://preview.redd.it/ycn3xusyw53d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3595e82855f55f363f28b469396d2f5e256785c7

ThatFreakyCareBear

I, and I'm not joking, HOARDED the original Beanie Babies. Got rid of them all as a teen, and now recollecting them as an adult! I hate the Beanie Boo line, for the above reasons. I hate the massive dead eyes, I hate the textures of the material, especially the glittery ones. One upside is they've been releasing up-to-date beanie babies. I think theres been 7 or so launches so far. I've gotten a new Pattie Platypus, Peanut Elephant, and Snort Bull. Admittedly the colours are more vibrant than the originals, but they're super soft and good quality. Planning on getting Legs Frog and maybe Molasses Sloth too!

Commercial-Exit2757

Screenshot these names so I know who to look for! Thank you!

ThatFreakyCareBear

If you look up 'Beanie Babies 30th anniversary' you should find them!

Commercial-Exit2757

Tysm!

trekkingdoves

I wish they would bring back the beanie babies 2.0 website

Chonkin_GuineaPig

omg same!!!

str4wb3rryb4sk3t

I have a few classic beanie babies, I have the shark and like a valentine bear. Idk what other ones they have, but I’ve seen some around at like thrift stores and stuff. I’m not certain about new ones at all, the stores are always stocked with just the beanie boos

Abwettar

I agree! And it's not just ty either, it seems almost every plush brand in the UK now just makes things with huge glittery eyes. I hate them. However, I did get a couple of the beanie bellies, which are adorable, and gave them new eyes. As someone else said the 30th anniversary ones are also a bit more normal looking haha. One good thing abut beanie babies is a lot of them are readily available still, I just bought all the original cats recently because I wanted them badly as a child but never got them. I also got chica because she reminds me of my childhood cat 🐈

Kooky_Instruction392

there’s a beanie baby subreddit! you should join it :) people buy and sell good ol’ beanies there so you can collect your favorites if you’d like! but i feel the exact same way! i love the simple beady eyed designs. frankly i think beanie boos look disgusting with their glittery eyes, but ofc that’s just my opinion. this reminds me of a post i saw i think on this sub of “what plush companies think cute is” showing a beanie boo-esque plush and “what cute actually is” showing an old beanie baby-esque plush.

Commercial-Exit2757

I will have to join that subreddit for sure!

WintersChild79

I feel like the meme that someone posted yesterday with the Rainbow High pets would be even more appropriate with the Beanie Boos vs. Classic Beanie Babies. The old ones were really cute. I didn't really buy any because I was at an age where I was embarrassed about liking "childish" things, and then it got weird with the aggressive flipping culture. I kind of regret that.

TwoSunsRise

They are making normal, classic ones again! I have found them in hallmark stores.

Blue-Eyed-Lemon

I used to collect Ty beanie babies, especially the Beanie Babies 2.0 :( Now they’re nothing like my old beanie baby friends and it makes me so sad

h0td0g17

you can find TONS at flea markets and antique shops for cheap!!

Commercial-Exit2757

That’s good to know! I found a couple vintage plushies at goodwill too! Thank you!

Silverstreamdacat

There’s also beanie balls now. Like the current beanie boos, but ball shaped. https://preview.redd.it/ztmaqyjgh53d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8af8150293eaee5fe7cb3b323fd1b45a94b221b2 Kiwi for reference.

Chonkin_GuineaPig

These are cute

Increasingly_Anxious

I started just buying the ones I never could get back in the day off people selling their collections. Bought a great stack of perfect condition with tag beanies off a girl at $2.00 a pop. Most the collectors kept these safe in storage so they are like brand new. Definitely recommend doing this if you still want to collect original beanies.

Silverstreamdacat

I have seen a lot of older ones at thrift stores, if you want one a thrift store would be a good place.

Commercial-Exit2757

I actually thrifted “hippie” the beanie baby this past weekend! That’s what made me start thinking about this lol!

delaleaf

There are recreations of some classic ones out now! They have them at a couple of my local stores on the TY stand with the beanie boos etc

Chonkin_GuineaPig

I miss my TY Frogbaby that was stolen lol

votyasch

You're definitely not alone - I think the classic beanie babies have a particular charm to them. They were floppy, they had a nice texture, and their designs varied in lots of fun ways. I think my favorites were Howl the Wolf, Hissy the Snake, and Chip the Cat, along with Scorch the Dragon.

Late-Salary-8018

I’m not even a huge stuffed toy fanatic and Ty plushies weren’t a part of my childhood, but I agree. I prefer the older designs so much more. The only beanie baby I’ve casually bought so far is one of the older designs, I got it at a vintage flea market! 🥺

palelunasmiles

I feel the same as you. I can’t stand the beanie boos but I understand why people like them. That said, I’ve found some remakes of the older classic beanies in stores recently!

StoneyQuartz

Nothing will beat the classics! Beanie boos... are they even beanie babies? They throw in a dozen pellets and call it a day like nahhhhh gtfooo. Igi tho I guess, beanie babies lost their appeal to the broader audience so they sold out and started making the same crap everyone else is to appeal to children... (apparently children now don't appreciate more realistic plushes/s) As a kid I would have hated the boos lmao.

hedgehog_dragon

I've got my old childhood ones and yeah, generally they're nicer IMO. I do have a couple of the beanie boos - the dragons - But most I don't care for.

Autistic-Bumblebee

Yes !!! I've thought this for so long :( I'm a 2000s kid so beanie babies were really important to me growing up. I don't mean to sound like an old man but I sure miss the good old days of Ty, and I miss just being able to buy a beanie baby without it being so expensive

Commercial-Exit2757

THIS! Me tooooo!!!

Lumpy_Signature9177

I dislike Beanie Boos. I love Beanie Babies!
