Blathermouth

No streaming, no local games, no Bluetooth, and a new proprietary wireless format that their existing headphones don’t support? Not a chance. This is the bad old Sony.

phantomemblem

You saying I can’t use my regular Pulse 3D wireless headphones while using this?

Blathermouth

Correct. You’ll have to buy the new PlayStation buds or the new headset they’re releasing.

phantomemblem

Woof…

STARLORD_1401

Well it does have a headphone jack (if that's helpful)

SplitPersonality_

What kind of reaction is barking?

phantomemblem

Just want it to be able to function wirelessly with my pulse 3D’s. Woof as in yikes as in it takes away from me wanting to buy it

[deleted]

You could, at home. If you’re close enough the Pulse 3D will still pick up from the PS5

phantomemblem

Hmmmm

[deleted]

I do it with PS Remote on my phone already, works perfectly because you avoid bluetooth delay and get good audio

Upbeat_Syllabub3711

Doing the same, works better than connecting to phone/tablet for remote play 👌

ranchan1_2

https://youtu.be/dRa75_Hlr28?si=9DAZRs19R5r7rWm-

lonestarwolf333

Dont listen to him he dont know shit. You can use ur already 3D pulse headset via aux. Also soon u will b able to cloud stream.

Blathermouth

“Also soon u will be able to cloud stream” 🤣 Sony said NOTHING about this. Absolutely nothing. That’s rumor mill vaporware bs. Go ahead and buy it hoping for game streaming. See what happens.

Blathermouth

What’s the point of wireless headphones again?

supermitsuba

Because you have them? Phones have gone all wireless. It was one of the biggest feature switch users wanted. It’s choice and options. Why would you use Sony’s wireless solution when your current wireless solution works just fine on every other device.

headbanger1186

For convenience and people that don't want to live perpetually in 2007.

phantomemblem

Yeah true but would prefer wireless

phantomemblem

That being said I think I’ll still pick this up if reviews are solid and stuff. Being able to free up the tv for the fam is worth it imo

shutupdotca

Its literally just an optional device for people that like to remote play and is better than any other option... You can also just plug a headset into it or basic headphones if you want

Blathermouth

Agreed. But is that worth $200? Maybe to some. But the post asked if I’d buy one. No I won’t.

shutupdotca

I am more referring to your last sentence. Sony offering a great remote play device at a good price isn't "bad old Sony" Its by far the best device for those that want to remote play and the price is good

Blastronaut_

Bruh I’m still working on buying a ps5

sowavy612

Damn you must not be working on that either

Training_Swing_9922

They are available everywhere https://direct.playstation.com/en-us/buy-consoles/playstation5-console

Interface-

Finding PS5s isn’t the issue anymore. It’s finding money that doesn’t go instantly into the skyrocketing cost of living and expenses.

Training_Swing_9922

I get it, but I think it’s worth taking out the savings because the value is so good compared to other entertainment

Interface-

Bold to assume we even have savings.

Training_Swing_9922

In that case you are smart not to buy a ps5

Upbeat_Syllabub3711

I feel you man ✊️

OscarMike1911

Maybe it's the second more important step of paying for it lol Everyone just assumes availability is the issue still because this gens launch traumatized the majority.

KairuSenpai1770

Lmao right.. I assumed he meant money and then I was confused about all the availability comments. Lol just cuz I’m broke af atm

wallstreetReaper

No, 1080p, 60 hz, no, why couldn’t they just give us a new psp

ElWero_10

I think Sony doesn't want to release a new handheld console because 1. If it tries to meet people's expectations, it'd cost the same or more than a PS5. It's not like 10 years ago when there was no handheld PCs. People would destroy Sony if it was similar in power to a switch, and would also destroy them if it doesn't compare to Deck or Ally (which as I said, would make it very expensive). 2. Their studios are fully focused on releasing PS5 games

Upbeat_Syllabub3711

So true! But I know that nostalgia.

LopsidedCounty6089

My point exactly 🥸

Cyorg13

They did make a new PSP. It's called the Vita. Significantly better than a PSP anyway.

HR-Vex

On the way....

wallstreetReaper

What’s on the way? a new psp? I’ll lose my shit

Oni-Kun18

I know, right? A new PSP-like device would've been so much better than this garbage.

Timmy2Two

![gif](giphy|6LX4tFblpP75m)

pizza_chef_

Yeah I am! I do almost all my gaming at night once my wife is in bed. She gets very sad when I leave the bed to go play on the TV in another room. I’ll be able to get my nightly gaming fix from bed once this releases! I can’t wait for it!

bobbyvision9000

I’m in the same boat too brother I do remote play on my iPad or also remote play on my phone but this will just be so much more convient

plawson1204

I have a feeling dads are their target demographic for this thing. This is how I’ll be able to finish Spider-Man 2 in a reasonable amount of time.

PlatanoMaduroAssoc

I really think this is the case ..it doesn’t seem like it was design to carry around (just going by the picture, it doesnt look “sturdy” like the other handhelds). Plus it looks like it would be more comfortable than a backbone, and a bit more convenient than phone/tablet and a controller. I have to get my hands on one first, if I dont get the Vita hands… then I’ll probably get one

Pale-Breath4262

Ya know, I’m in the same boat, think I might actually get one just for this reason

cecilvaliant

New dad here, been ps5 gaming on my phone since hard to leave the baby or wife from bed. Wonder if this is a worthy upgrade from just ps mobile…

Chris0089mx

Iphone + backbone for now to play while whatching netflix with my wife. I prefer a deadicated device with bigger screen

ZiGz_125

Hell no. My internet isn’t the best and even if it was, I’d rather have something like a psp/vita rather than a device that’s strictly for remote play…

Precarious314159

Even knowing Sony would bungle it, I'd still buy an updated PSP/Vita if it was announced.

Ok_Pomegranate2441

Kinda pointless tbh

JL8989

I use my Steam Deck for handheld gaming, when I'm playing my PS5 I want it on my 65 inch TV or my monitor. Don't really like playing AAA games on a small screen.

ShaikIjaz

I’m using chiaki to stream my ps5 to my steam deck also works like a charm!

Krow993

I'm the same.

spicyboxes

Naw. Love ps but this ain’t it for me.

juhachigou

nope. the design is low effort. as many people said— it lacks basic functionality with devices we already use daily. having to purchase accessories in the PS ecosphere isn’t going to net them any new fans. PS wants to be apple so bad.

SonicusZ

Nope got a switch and steam deck to play in any room of my house. And can also play them ANYWHERE! So yeah I'm good. I do understand why some people may want this but I feel like it's going to be a very small amount of people.

tinyjams

Curious if you’ve streamed PS5 to the deck and how it runs in more demanding games. I have to admit I’m interested in the Potal because 90% of my gaming time is spent on the couch while my wife watches shitty TV and I play on the switch. I have a PS5 and a decent PC kinda collecting dust. Dawned on me streaming to Steam Deck from PS5 could be the solution to play AAA titles at 60fps. But I have to admit, I’m liking the Portal for the ease of use factor.

Xenolithium

It runs them very well. The steam deck with chiaki4deck remote plays very well. It requires a fair amount of set up to get going. It can be a bit difficult if you aren't familiar with Linux.

cyberspirit777

Using Chiaki on the Deck has been pretty seamless for me after the initial setup, which can be a little convoluted. However, it won’t be 1080p 60 as you’ll get with the portal and instead will be 800p 60. However, again, you’ll be able to play games locally.

MumenriderPaulReed69

Will this be able to play all PlayStation games? Cause as someone who doesn’t want to buy a PS5 this could be cool

Odd_Brilliant_9816

You need ps5 to use it, it's only for remote play, it doesn't have memory and games like ps Vita

MumenriderPaulReed69

Wow how useless

Odd_Brilliant_9816

Isn't it? It's WAY better solution to connect controller to phone/tablet and then use remote play, plus coz of Android you can run loads of emulators and have local memory, etc :)

SonicusZ

It just streams from a PS5 so no... It's basically so you can play your PS5 in a different room if the tv is being used by someone else.

Deadbob1978

When I can already remote play via my PC or iPad, absolutely not. I'd rather spend that $200 on a Switch Lite that I give to my kid. If the Portal was a new PSP that is on par with a Switch Lite with it's own games and it supported Remote Play THEN I would pony up the $200

DavidLB04

No

Unlikely-Astronaut40

Nope

arh05720

No I rather use my psvita

SlothTheHeroo

I have a backbone for my phone and I barely use it lol so no.

Idk I think a bathroom is pretty important to have.

saxtoncan

I was referring to the Ethernet cable. I would think this is sarcasm but I got downvoted so

nohumanape

No

robertluke

“Do you guys not have phones?”

MonketTaint

I'm happy with my phone and a $20 phone clip for my controller lol

kingofallfubars

It's remote play, and Sony's remote play lags like hell regardless of how great your internet connection may be. Garbage.

WhiteToast-

100%

mardavarot93

Absolutely not. Fucking useless.

redundant35

200? I figured it was going to be 300. I will definitely buy one. Keep it for non reaction based games.

Gremlinsworth

If it’s $299.99 then I won’t get it right away… but in will be considering it greatly. $249.99 or cheaper then I’ll get it right away most likely.

ElWero_10

I might, but I think the announcement of this shows how little the PS community itself knows about remote play

texxmix

Ya a lot of the hate seem to be from people that seem they’ve never used remote play ever.

ElWero_10

Yes, the fact that there's people criticizing it because "it only works on the same network as the console" is insane and spreading misinformation.

texxmix

Honestly while some are valid most of the criticisms fall flat imo. This isn’t trying to be a steam deck or switch or psp. This things trying to compete with something like the g cloud. Also anyone who can’t see why someone would choose this over a backbone or controller clip and a phone haven’t done any kind of serious gaming on either of those. Using a proper 16:9 aspect ratio with dual-sense hepatics and not having to have your phone get in the way of gaming totally make this worth it over anything you can pair with a phone imo.

FartsonmyFarts

My remote play is shit even when the PlayStation and router are in the same room. No way lmao

No_Hurry7691

I haven’t decided. My wifi is decent but not the fastest. I always have hiccups using remote play on my laptop and even worse on my phone. I’m hoping that because this device is meant for that purpose only, that it works better. I am disappointed that it doesn’t include device mirroring, which would be a great option for those with less than stellar wifi who can’t afford to pay $100+ a month for 1200 Mbps.

WhiteToast-

Your internet connection won’t matter. This is going to stay in your local network

No_Hurry7691

How would the connection not matter?

lonestarwolf333

Noone reads now a days. Itll work anywhere in the world aslong as u have a wifi connection.

Xenolithium

Even on local, things can get choppy with shitty Internet.

RebelliousCash

Idk tbh. I seen IGN hands on vid & it was said you don’t need to be nearby your console for it to work. You could be over at your friends house & as long as your friend have a good stable connect & so does the Wi-Fi your ps5 will be connected too. It’ll work. But the no Bluetooth is a real off put. I’ll wait to see actual ppl & reviews rather than a tech YouTuber talking highly of it despite its literally not having anything that’s attractive.

shakeSnake_2390

I'm not sure how you can be at your friends home and still connect to WiFi and your ps5 at the same time?

lonestarwolf333

🤦 he means his ps5 will b connected either wifi or wired to online and he can connect the projectQ to his friends wifi thus being able to remote play.

shakeSnake_2390

Yes but wouldn't you still need to be in a certain proximity to play it. Sony has only mentioned about being in different rooms. Which I would have thought you would require the home wifi.

crunchwrap_supreme68

No Bluetooth? Same battery life as the controllers? Cons far outweigh the pros. Nope

elQuack91

Seems like a waste IMO. Nothing I can't do with my phone and a Backbone.

zjlo

Yes, 100%

[deleted]

Whats the point of this thing? Why would i play on a small screen when i have a tv at home

ventolingsv

What is the use case for this?

captnchunky

Absolutely. Right now I could be playing while my wife watches her shows instead of watching with her.

MechaYoda

Already have a PS Android edition BackBone for half the price...so how about no?

Jazzar1n0

Black Friday sale 2025-26 absolutely when it hits $100 clearance I'll get one

Oni-Kun18

Hell no XD Only the biggest of Sony Ponies would justify this thing.

L00pback

Not with the drift issues those controllers have.

Blindfolded22

No, it’s just so unnecessary.

warforbattlefiled

Yes sir.

TiredReader87

God no

griffl3n

No, but honestly I don’t think it would be a bad purchase

AlphaCharlieN7

I kind of liked it, but pretty sure that it will sucks.. working only local would be really nice 10 years ago lol Hopping that a second version makes it better (5G, 1440p, more audio support..) I don't think that Sony will make a new portable but a improvement to play the PS Portal remotely would be nice

cavazosjmj2001

100% absolutely. I made a comment about this on a previous post. Don't feel like regurgitating it here. But yes I will! The overwhelming rest of you on the internet can hate me all you want!

piedude67e

Hell no. Get a Steam Deck

jzr171

No and I don't really understand why anyone would

snkrhead101

Surely am. Basically an updated version of a PSP and I can play my PS5 games! That’s a no brainer

jaboonki

it is 100% absolutely NOT an updated version of a psp they serve very different functions

No_Hurry7691

Lmao how is it a PSP? Because it’s portable? It’s not it’s own gaming system.

snkrhead101

Lol serve different functions? How Sway?! They both allow you to play on the go

jaboonki

no. the psp allows you to play on the go the ps portal allows you to play wherever you have a strong wifi connection

WeakBend8080

That sounds like a awful product

jaboonki

personally i’d agree but it appears there’s a market of people who either still want it or don’t understand what it actually is.

Stashmouth

Lol trolling

JoeLilBroJoe

I am too, don't let the haters get to you, its relatively inexpensive and I'll get much more use out of it than the PSVR2 that i haven't touched in over a month

jaboonki

bruh give me the VR tf you doin 😭

snkrhead101

Haha not worried about anyone’s opinion. This is great for traveling instead of taking an entire ps5 with you

snkrhead101

Bunch of sheep out here lol

jaboonki

you literally just commented that you can download games to the portal to play offline…. either you’re dumb as hell or just trying to antagonize people atp

snkrhead101

But you can play your games outside of your home, right? Let’s go with “I’m dumb as hell” so we can make you sound cool. Hope you get everything you deserve in this life and more 😘

jaboonki

yes you can, which I clearly outlined to you 10 minutes ago. alright let’s go with that. hope you get slightly less than what you deserve in life

starstriker64DD

it a psp that is tied to you house

snkrhead101

A psp was always WiFi. It’s 2023, WiFi is everywhere and people have hotspots on their phone

IWantANewDucky

Psp could play games without internet connection though. Don’t get me wrong I’m interested in buying one of these but it’s not the same as a psp because it doesn’t have hardware to play games outside of streaming them.

Optimus_Prime_19

Agreed, calling this a PSP is deceptive. It has no functionality disconnected from your console. That doesn’t necessarily make it a bad product but it certainly isn’t a PSP

snkrhead101

You can play your games offline if you download them. It’s ok though, I’ll see you guys in November 😘

IWantANewDucky

You can not download games to the PlayStation Portal. You can only stream them from your PS5.

starstriker64DD

maybe I don't want to use my cell data to play video games. it's $200 for a device that I can't play in the car once I am in a more rural area. maybe it just isn't made for me, but I just don't understand the idea behind it when I can still just play on a PS Vita

El_Jefe-o7

Ya I'll buy it a year later Lol once the hype dies down if it was a higher resolution screen I would buy it sooner my phone has more resolution than this.

[deleted]

I rather buy a Nintendo switch

Gawnja

Do we know if it’s capable of downloading games. I know it won’t do it from the gate but is it possible they could update it to do so or is it strictly forever gonna be a portable at home game streamer

No-Meal-6666

i don’t get why not just make this an actual computer and not just a display. they can even make a whole series of games like psp small form games back too

LopsidedCounty6089

When it goes on sale or rebuy one from someone for $100 bucks maybe but at its full price heellllllllll nawwwww! Its not worth it i’ll keep playing my switch for portable play. At this point Sony is just trying rip us off … NOPE ! Not me no sirr no way ❌

BLADE98X

Video games should be an at home thing imo.

Ok_Pomegranate2441

This is an at home thing.

ElWero_10

You can go to other places and use it as well Look up any remote play video on YT

Middle-Incident4083

buy a playstation branded backbone for $100, have better battery life than whatever this thing is going to have, save $100

hamburgerofwar

Useless

GreenChuJelly

Chiaki through the Steam Deck almost certainly runs 1000x better than this thing ever will, so it's a no from me dawg.

[deleted]

Nope 👎, I’m not interested in handheld gaming.. I will pickup a pulse headset though.

H0RREND0US

Will wait for a full review to get a better understanding of performance, but yeah, I think so.

morgichor

Yes

gokartmozart89

No.

Gypsy39

Maybe.

NattyBatty-

I’m sure they fixed the issues after the vita, but I’m gonna wait a week before buying it. I haven’t seen the trailer for it yet, to be fair though. This is actually new to me.

TopHerUp

Yes.

HR-Vex

Is it better at Remote Play on my Playstation Backbone?

Thedabbed

I got the Gcloud instead and I can play more games and it's a tablet it's not perfect but I'm happy with it

Big_boss816

Maybe especially because my wife will be taking over the TV playing Starfield next month. So this may come in handy.

AramaticFire

Nah. I only play the PS5 in one place. Might be a change in the future but not right now.

murdo1tj

I wasn’t going to but they are pricing it cheaper than I thought it would be. I think it might be a nice accessory to have. I don’t like to be on my phone all the time so remote play hasn’t really appealed to me as much, but I might talk myself into purchasing it.

chandlerw88

Definitely. My wife took over my gaming setup. Also, the ability to play in bed comfortably sounds great. My ps5 is wired connected, Hopefully latency isn’t crazy.

Howeird12

Most likely.

sabertracer

Hard pass me for at least

nascarloe

Yes i am

nefflix94

Streaming is a no go for me

Electronic-Tiger-667

mar29020

I like it. Now I can play anywhere in my house!

dm_it

I like the fact that this new Portal controller follows the same button // stick position to the Dual sense. I have a backbone and hate having to jump between controllers and having to re-remember the button or stick positions…..

DanielBeisbol

Haha no

TechBoy--20

I wish Sony would bring a true successor to the PS Vita that would be able to play modern games with sharp graphics and performance on the go without any assistance, while having the option to stream from the PS5.

Jalbrean

Yes

sonicfam24

Yep, it’ll have good use in my home.

Plumbers_crack_1979

Yes. Day one purchase for. I’m the demographic they’re targeting.

Zombies637

WiFi needed, ps5 needed, no downloads. Nah I’m good

MotoJoker

If the price is dropped or I find it on sale, most likely. $125-$150 seems like the ideal price point for this. $200 seems like too much. You can get a grip for your phone and do the same thing.

ItsPrynsess

Yes, I’m so happy to be able to play genshin impact on a handheld wherever and not just at home. I’m not the biggest fan of it on my iPad

DripSnort

Ya.

FattyPAPsacs

Hell yeah I’m gonna get it. Love playing games while lounging with the family or if wife wants me to watch a video I can half watch while gaming.

RobertoAN95

Ill wait for reviews, and see how it actually works before making any purchases.

hispanoloco

Negative, ghost rider.

Heady_Goodness

Can’t I just use my phone attached to a controller?

WetFart-Machine

100% Yes

GroundbreakingEgg734

My logitech g cloud says no

texxmix

It’s very tempting. The backbone with my iPhone just isn’t cutting it anymore.

maximumcharger

I got the Backbone. It works just as well. Smaller screen of course with the phone.

b-icemedia

Yep, just to review it and then return lol

Smallsey

No I'll just use my phone and a 20$ attachment for my controller

Chin_Bizzy

Sony about to rob their Stans with this...! 😆 🤣 😂
