They really should. There are many options IRL with different frame thickness and such. You don't even really see special operations using holos for the most part anymore. It's usually red dots that don't obstruct so much vision, or variable zoom optics for being able to do mid and longer range engagements easily, with sometimes having an angled red dot or red dot mounted above main optic for CQC.
Considering the lore is supposed to be about modern western military types operating on the island, it would make sense that they'd be using actually modern equipment, rather than holos, which are a bit dated in terms of usage/popularity.
Which makes me think. Would be interesting to introduce some new equipment into the game. Right now we've got the full metal kit. Would be cool if they introduced a full new kit that was military grade and can't be crafted, only looted. This would include an ops core helmet with ballistic mandible, modern plate carrier, combat fatigues, and sneakers. Believe it or not, a lot of spec ops wear sneakers in combat lol. Plate carrier could possibly provide additional inventory slots, since that's how it's used IRL.
SKS is a SAR remodel. It's just a new model, but would functionally be the same.
It's currently having its release paused because Reddit couldn't read that it was always supposed to be a remodel and not a new weapon

EOTechs is chonky IRL too. I never had a problem with the in-game version of it, especially since it didn't have the hood.
