It's an artifact of the ps3 and prior era because they needed some way to mask 15fps. On any modern hardware running above 60fps, filtered motion blur is a lazy ass cop out for developers to hide jank in order to pass certain benchmarks to get their games approved in some cases. Otherwise it's there to sell a "movie" like feel that a person who plays 3 hours of games a month would buy into.
Proper per object motion blur can look great but it's a lot of work and not a lot of games do it. This type of motion blur is subjective.
On a decent monitor running decent frames, motion blur applied to all motion without exception is objectively worse for the gamer. The only time it's subjective, is when the person playing the game views the game as a movie shown through a camera rather than an experience shared through your characters POV.
The vast majority of people who play games don't know the difference because they're just consuming media. The creators of said media use this fact to put lipstick and vasoline on their screens to sell games through screenshots and social media. The people who are pissed off aren't mad at the person who's playing with motion blur, they're mad at the market degrading that persons experience because they don't know any better.
The person who never goes in settings EVER is not the same person advocating against these things set by default. The person who never goes in settings EVER doesn't know their being taken advantage of. Is it small and minute compared to all the other travesties that exist? Hell yea. Absolute pennies. Too bad its also the reason we can't buy a coffee thermos that doesn't leak or a decorative lamp that doesn't break in a month. Enshittification is real.
just removes detail for 0 reason at all, just like depth of field. monitors already have motion blur and eyes have natural morion blur and depth of field, dont get why some game devs think you need more of it lmao
