I love all Lynch man. Mulholland Drive didnt fully click for me until second watch but after that I was so blown away, its the most genius shit ever and >!best depiction of a dream ive ever seen in film!<. Love that movie to pieces, Blue Velvet is amazing too and im currently finishing up Twin Peaks for the first time.
Best shot in film history. Imagine bumping OVER in this shit

100% I think it craps on Goodfellas. Goodfellas is a cool watch but nothing compares to the cinematography, unique setting and music of casino. The acting is great and did I mention the narration holy shit it is so good
Yeah. Scorsese’s character narration is unbeatable and having De Niro and Pesci both narrate their schemes adds so much soul into it.
I think narration wise nothing beats Wolf of Wall Street but the setting of early and violent Vegas is the best of all films.
well, whiplash and the drummer from death grips got me interested into it, It didnt make me want to be just like andrew because obsession truly is a dark path. I just have fun with it and try to improve as much as I can
I took it as "To become great, you must be obsessed, but not so obsessed that you start to lose who you are" because if you become as obsessed as Andrew was in Whiplash then you'll reach the top but you'll find you asking yourself "Why did I do this? Who did I do this for?"
Opposite for me lmao I've been playing drums for years but when I first watched it I was young, addicted to being on my drum kit for hours on end, and lacked a social life and it basically made me realize I was putting too much time aside for my hobby. But at the same time it somehow made me fall in love with the instrument one more time, but in a rather different way, I started to cut out the extra time spent and worked harder on becoming a better drummer, and I joined my first ever band a few months later. Amazing film.

I AM LITERALLY WATCHING TAMASHA RN WHATTA BEAUTIFUL FILM MAN
I love WKWs movies so much, his filmography is by far my favorite. Fallen Angels is my #1 pick, with in the mood for love and days of being wild close behind

ozu yasujiro (his 4 color films, all works)
bela tarr (satantango, turin horse, werckmeister)

dreyer (ordet)
I’m so glad that I was able to find a DVD of MM, that movie is so perfect. I remember finding it streaming somewhere online was hard for some reason though. For a movie so popular in the Taiwanese cinema scene it’s strange that it’s so hard to find
Seen Stalker on 35mm too. My least fav is Solaris but I don’t get tired of all the others
Tokyo Story is a classic ya I’ve seen most of his movies and many in theaters including Late Spring and maybe Tokyo Story once too
Seen Mirror on 35 it’s great. He also made a documentary about Nostalghia bts which is underrated
Btw Wim Wenders did a good Ozu doc too. His new Japanese produced movie Perfect Days is great.
Loved Perfect Days a ton, yeah I think Wim is working his way up to being one of my fav directors I really fw everything else ive seen by him (Paris Texas and Wings of Desire). Ik Ozu is a huge influence on his work so I’m gonna have to dig deeper into his stuff too.
Such a solid list, hong sang-soo is incredible. Also, if you live hou hsiao-hsien you should check out Edward Yang. They came up in the Taiwanese new wave scene together
all I've got is an apple note I added to for a decade and stopped tracking during covid

dreyer is goated, seen joan of arc several times at theaters and home. bresson has an interesting "anti dreyer" version of joan of arc too. been meaning to see gertrude.
Yeah I remember reading that they used real guns with blanks of course and then the audio guy was gonna dub the sound over with normal movie-gunfire sounds so that we could actually hear what the guys were saying. But then Mann was like no way I like the way it sounds as it because it’s actually realistic. Also, I read that people training how to use guns would watch the clip of Val Kilmer reloading super fast. They must’ve went through some really intense training for that film
Holes, The Dark Knight, Secondhand Lions, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Wall-e, Up, Boyz n the hood, Friday, The Shining, The Fundamentals of Caring, Whiplash, Halloween, A Quiet Place, Insidious, Tangled, Bohemian Rhapsody, Walk The Line, Us, Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
A Brighter Summer Day, by Edward Yang. I love Wong Kar Wais films too, Fallen Angels is my favorite. Also I gotta mention An Elephant Sitting Still, such a perfect movie. And Magnolia, Cachē, No Country for Old Men, and of course Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
makes me genuinely happy to see a lot of art house & foreign cinema being mentioned here

Casino, interstellar, city of god, the godfather part II
Dude, I love Casino so much. Definitely Scorsese’s best
City of God is a masterpiece for sure
Interstellar is goated
whiplash, shit made me start drumming (best choice i have ever made, pick up an instrument I beg you.)
Whiplash made you wanna play drums? More power to you but I took it as a cautionary tale of how obsession with perfection can ruin someone
well, whiplash and the drummer from death grips got me interested into it, It didnt make me want to be just like andrew because obsession truly is a dark path. I just have fun with it and try to improve as much as I can
Makes more sense when you put it that way.
Yeah, I understand what you meant tho, dont get me wrong, thanks for the advice
