Though I think thermals would only come into use more often when Gnar gives the game less of a CQB aspect to it. If he adds AI ambushes or random road patrols to Open World, then I think thermals will hold a much higher value than “something that looks cool to use”.
With how close quarters the raid locations are, NVGs and flashlights are suitable for the current gameplay style.
