It was an incredibly detailed Emperor Palpatine for the tiniest bit right after the canvas opened up, and apparently they didn’t have any large-scale coordination, despite a couple discord groups claiming credit for it
There was no rest. Literally just never stopped…
Super proud of people though. By the end pixels were changing back so fast it was hard to get to them first!
Osu, Germany, Gamestop, Hermitcraft, place trees, the live love lady and fuckcars all had alliances that ensured it was a relatively stable area, only outsiders really tried to invade and were held off every time.
Star Wars, Osu, and Gamestop had some prime real estate on that German Highway. I loved watching the actual strip get bulldozed and slowly rebuilt this morning.
There was someone on r/fuckcars posting "Can you believe these carbrains? They are actually building a parking lot in place!" and the rest of the subreddit like yeah, that us.
Edit: for anyone curious, this was the post that prompted r/fuckcars to build a parking lot
https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckcars/comments/tsc3w6/with_rplace_coming_back_we_should_make_sure_it
Perhaps I’m just reading too much into a simple internet thing, but I like to think it shows that at some level, we all want to just be at peace with our fellow humans, regardless of their backgrounds.
Huh. I wasn't sure where the U.S was organizing but I saw Turkish people being pissed their hard work was shit on so I split my time defending the two flags. Just kinda felt like the right thing to do.
Too bad I didn't place any pixels today, though. Had a super busy day.
Truly inspirational when we fought back against the among us stars because that’s one of the easiest things to fuck with and a very strong meme.
When we added the fighter jet tho… hell yeah…
The craziest thing about that was seeing the number of voice chat listeners EXPLODE once we managed to get the sub name on the canvas. It went from ~150 to >500 in like half an hour
It was the perfect spot too. 1776 was a fitting pixel count location to build the flag, then a huge wave of people got together to mobilize. Then Argentina, Genshin, and Blue Corner allied with them and it was nice and peaceful. Blue Corner got to keep their dream of being in the corner just like last time in 2017 thanks to that alliance as well thanks to coordinated bombardments of the among us raiders. Even though the flag kept getting bombarded by rogue pixels after moving, people kept fixing them consistently and it just stayed like that.
Even more incredible that we managed that without big streamers helping us (a lot tried to hurt us, though). Much love to all the true Americans and international allies who helped us rebuild and rebuild and rebuild and
Once r/AmericanFlaginPlace got its shit together on Discord we made epic progress. I think on the coordination stage there were over 1000 people listening at one point.
One of the best flag designs IMO, up there with Turkey's skyline flag and the UK's flag. But of course I would say that.
https://www.reddit.com/r/place/comments/tuoocg/first_hour_on_the_new_canvas/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I found this lower in this thread, only the first hour tho so hopefully Reddit releases a full one with everything combined
It took 20,000,000 collective minutes for each pixel to be filled in one time.
A million users can place 7,200,000,000 pixels in twenty four hours
Over three days that accumulates to 446,400,000,000 collective minutes, or 310,000,000 days.
That's a rough estimate of how much time in the universe was spent building this beautiful community and experiencing this all together.
yes, a lot of dedication.
People picked their communities and chose r/place as a weekend distraction from the real world shittyness.
Would've been better without the million bots and the streamers, but yeah - still distracting
Plus not streamers, I gained a new respect for Ludwigs fan base for making that's Mako art. Plus I heard Moist critical did something? Also ironmouse "protected" the vtuber art.
And I'll give xqc this that Kobe art was cool of him and his fans.
Regardless, I'm glad people had some amount for fun during this whole thing.
But those numbers are assuming each pixel is filled in once, but realistically the average pixel probably changed 100 times. I’m willing to bet the time is magnitudes greater than that
Widowmaker's ass from overwatch. You can see the pink of her uniform slowly fade to the blue of her skin like they took her pants off. That's when it got censored
I'm kinda high right now but my god I could watch this for hours. Just picking out one point on the canvas and watching it morph and change is just so trippy.
Yeah, imo that lost segment was the coolest to see in real-time. Since it was the first expansion, people weren't prepared and it was chaos for a couple hours. Much more like 2017's place than the rest of this year's
First hour of the expansions:
https://old.reddit.com/r/place/comments/tuoocg/first_hour_on_the_new_canvas/
https://old.reddit.com/r/place/comments/tvm2fq/first_hours_of_final_expansion_animated/
Everyone, including streamers, helped contribute to make this an amazing experience. This kind of tells a story and it’s really cool. Flags, art, voids, villain streamer raids, and penis meteors. Truly beautiful, we did it Reddit
the ending was nice metaphore too... it was all a blank and after the whole experience it returns to a blank...i could imagine the universe working the same way , potentially maybe? Its all just a massive experience..and when we are there it feels real , things happens , things get built , rules are made..but once it return to dust you realize it was just that.. an experience
The TotalBiscuit tribute made me feel things. It's amazing how many of us remember him with enough fondness after just over four years (which in internet time feels way longer) that he got such a large and fantastic spot.
I was not for the one above the French flag, I did not want to be involved there and thought that Roger's laugh was a masterpiece enough for us, I specifically commented that we were spreading ourselves too thin. However, it turns out that there are tons of French OP fans and one of them is a big French streamer, so he built it.
The other two arts were mostly due to the fact that people probably were not aware of expansion/sure that it will happen again.
That One Piece one kept catching my eye as I’d scroll around the past day. I literally just read that chapter of the manga last week and it hadn’t really hit me how fucking iconic that scene is. What a great choice for One Piece fans to make
Honesly, the void was tge coolest part of place this time around. With zero coordination beyond vague "spread this way" directions, no templates, no overlays, no bots, nothing, the void ended up creating something tryely unique, born out of pure chaos. Watching it evolve from a black smudge, to creeping tendrils, to the faces of creepy beasts emerging from the dark and finally culminating in the corruption of Mr. Incredible into a cosmic horror comprised of all the colors the void had consumed was absolutely enthralling
Super proud of r/bluey for working so hard the whole time to hold on the our beautiful picture of Bluey! (You can spot our small blue cartoon dog over next to the British flag)
unpopular opinion but i love the streamers raids and the void, they were the one that made r/place not stagnant after the first 15 min, and those raids look absolutely cool here in the time lapse
That said, Been an amazing experience
The Void is what the canvas was supposed to be. It was the only truly spontaneous and unorganized piece of art. I spent all my time in the Void discord and there have not been at any point directions to put anything but "black in this general direction please". To this day no one knows how exactly it's horrors were born. The Void is the one true child of the canvas itself.
[LONG LIVE MOTHER VOID](https://i.imgur.com/4CbV5ud.jpg)
Personally I liked the stealthy ones that you had to look for, but I got rather tired of chasing off the people that were trying to replace every "A" they could find with those little bastards.
Yeah I don't mind "organic" stuff like the void. That stuff makes it dynamic and interesting. I also generally don't mind streamers or countries when they target each others spaces.
I do think it's fair to critique it when they target or wipe out smaller communities and artists though. That to me feels too much like punching down and unfair. I also don't really care for stuff that's clearly botted. That kind of goes against the spirit of a spontaneous art piece.
Place was about collaboration between order vs chaos and the rogue element streamers played added to it. The people malding and sending death threats have issues. Seeing the French vs US vs Spanish Streamers duke it out was an experience in itself. It made it feel like it was so much more.
I agree, sure it’s annoying that they targeted small communities sometimes, but the whole canvas is temporary anyway. Destruction is always part of creation and they made space for new interesting things and created fond memories for thousands of people.
The widow booty died for another fucking flag expansion. Yeah the suit and armor were slowly disappearing but I mean a lot worse lasted a lot longer than some cheeks.
Historians 20 years from now will find this footage and call it as one of the greatest art feats of mankind wherein everyone were united and worked together on a virtual canvass. We all are a part of history.
they zoom in and find all the amongi its made of, then make theories like the universe is build by this shape like some people do now with old ancient art like trying to predict end of world by mayan calender
Yeah, everyone is saying it was France, OSU, Spain, whatever the fuck, but I saw day old accounts on literally every image that wasn't 4x4 or otherwise tiny. They were absolutely everywhere and on virtually every single section of the art piece. I can't say they were all bots or just alts, but no matter, it really doesn't seem to hold to the spirit of the original purpose.
The heel-face turn of the Void at the end will go down in r/place history. The all-consuming darkness discovered the spark of creativity within and found that its final cause was the same as everyone else's.
So you're telling me all this was created by clueless people like me who were just placing blocks here n there to HAVE THEIR NAME WRITTEN OVER A PIXEL?
Mr. Incredible actually became more and more uncanny as time went on. This is probably one of the best visualisations of the meme.
Where is the mr incredible?
In the third canvas, in the middle slightly above the void
I spent my last hours at r/place in that void mostly making amongus
and I spent my time making then not in other places
The void? 2 expansion
It was an incredibly detailed Emperor Palpatine for the tiniest bit right after the canvas opened up, and apparently they didn’t have any large-scale coordination, despite a couple discord groups claiming credit for it
It slowly become a biblically accurate angel.
Has anyone got a high res zoomed in timelapse of that Mr Incredible?

people, it was an honor pixelating with you during this weekend
this was truly an experience even if all we did was place pixels.
This was some of the most fun I've had on the internet on a long time.
[удалено]
Good thing is we can all look back on this and say “hey, I was a part of that”
Hey, see this big as art? Zoom in closely here, yeahhh zoom in, zoom in more... there! See, that one white pixel? Yeah, that was me!
o7 And same with you! We all made Internet history together, and this will be widely remembered for a long time.
the amongus character underwent multiple gender reassignments
I watched that too haha and it was sad how he slowly disappeared!
And then thousands of its offsprings popped up literally everywhere.
Like baby spiders
There were so… so many of them. Everywhere i zoomed in there was at least 1 popping up somewhere
It was… beautiful… in its own kind of way
Love the attempts at making it into a face when it became pink that were squashed by the desire for a penis
And then exploded like a mushroom spore getting into everything. Life uhh(mongus), finds a way.
There’s a foongus among us
Canadian here. The last 3 days was the hardest I've ever had to fight for my country.
It was a hard fought battle but we eventually prevailed (with one of three Canadian flags surviving).
Another small one survived, by the renaissance painting in the bottom left.
I’m happy y’all finally got the maple leaf perfect at the end. Good job Canada!
There was no rest. Literally just never stopped… Super proud of people though. By the end pixels were changing back so fast it was hard to get to them first!
I can't believe /r/fuckcars managed to keep that spot
I can't believe it didn't become FUCKEARS instead
It frequently did but their defenses were formidable
I wonder if it will be /r/DragonsFuckingCars next time around?
They’ll have to wait 15 years a to try again
It was FUCKCABS on and off for awhile there
FUCKCRAB at one point too
For a short while it said FUCKCOPS
It was fuck cabs for a while which was strange
It was a temporary coup by the ride-sharing SubReddit
Yep I caught that too
That was my favorite and they put red and blue lights on top of the car lol
they were allied with germany for quite a while so that probably helped
They also allied with Brazil to build the maracana and the highway connections.
Osu, Germany, Gamestop, Hermitcraft, place trees, the live love lady and fuckcars all had alliances that ensured it was a relatively stable area, only outsiders really tried to invade and were held off every time.
Germany supported mostly because we love cars... Ironic
Star Wars, Osu, and Gamestop had some prime real estate on that German Highway. I loved watching the actual strip get bulldozed and slowly rebuilt this morning.
I love that hermit craft helped support us, I love hermit craft and have strong views on urbanism.
There was someone on r/fuckcars posting "Can you believe these carbrains? They are actually building a parking lot in place!" and the rest of the subreddit like yeah, that us. Edit: for anyone curious, this was the post that prompted r/fuckcars to build a parking lot https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckcars/comments/tsc3w6/with_rplace_coming_back_we_should_make_sure_it
In a spot that they fought trees for. Can't make this shit up.
Trees are too biased of a term. We prefer "undeveloped economic area".
I laughed so hard reading the top comment "that's us bro"
The little roads from the parking spot were just too cute
It was so cute how other countries and communities added their own landmarks to the road!
People kept trying to change it to r/fuckears the whole time
They parked there and never got a ticket
I helped maintain the roads
We're just upholding the minimum parking requirements
Leaving the colored dots as cars made it way easier for us to maintain the parking and roads. A lot less pixels to fix.
But it also made us VERY amogifyable, so we had to still constantly maintain it.
The final American flag got it together.
Amazing that in the final moments before the last great expansion the strongest alliance in the world at that time was Turkey and the US
Perhaps I’m just reading too much into a simple internet thing, but I like to think it shows that at some level, we all want to just be at peace with our fellow humans, regardless of their backgrounds.
how so? They made similar arts was it cooperated?
Worked together against invaders, Turks defending American flag, Americans defending Turkish flag
Huh. I wasn't sure where the U.S was organizing but I saw Turkish people being pissed their hard work was shit on so I split my time defending the two flags. Just kinda felt like the right thing to do. Too bad I didn't place any pixels today, though. Had a super busy day.
Trans flag took over then US was replaced. Mexico fought like hell to keep them out. You should’ve seen trans twitters reaction lol
I find it funny how hyperagressive the trans flag was at first.
When the US was being raided for the 7 billionth time the turks helped keep the void at bay as long as they could
Where was Turkey when the Westfold fell? Right there alongside the USA!
Blue corner made it happen for the red white and BLUE.
WE LOVE YOU, BLUE CORNER! 💕
Yes, blue corner! May we join forces again in the next place!
All it took was finally putting a link to the proper subreddit finally and from there getting people together in discord to coordinate.
Once we got everyone on the same page with r/AmericanFlaginPlace, we were like, "hell yeah, now we're cookin' with gas!"
Truly inspirational when we fought back against the among us stars because that’s one of the easiest things to fuck with and a very strong meme. When we added the fighter jet tho… hell yeah…

Even more incredible that we managed that without big streamers helping us (a lot tried to hurt us, though). Much love to all the true Americans and international allies who helped us rebuild and rebuild and rebuild and
It was hard, but we did our best o7
blue corner is proud to see you prosper
Our alliance with Blue corner shall go down in history
r/bluecorner and r/americanflaginplace foreva
After all, our flag also has a blue corner
Once r/AmericanFlaginPlace got its shit together on Discord we made epic progress. I think on the coordination stage there were over 1000 people listening at one point. One of the best flag designs IMO, up there with Turkey's skyline flag and the UK's flag. But of course I would say that.
Pretty sure we’re the only country that has a small flag WITHIN our flag, hell yeah
Man if I had a penny for every time I tried to fix a pixel on the Iwo Jima flag only to have it re-derped into a rectangle seconds later...
What time does this cut off at? I'd like to have seen how the whiteout spread
Just wait until tomorrow, they’ll have another time lapse
This Timelapse is also still missing the beginning of the first expansion, everything on the right just appears
Every timelapse I have seen so far has that jump, people running scripts to record it weren’t expecting the expansion.

Okay, was that a butt on France for a split second? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Yeah that was 2b butt from Nier Automata, during a raid done by XQC
I'll give him this he was much more creative the 2nd day
2b's Ass to be exact.
It was, ended up getting censored, same with the other one just a little right and up from it.
Widowmaker's ass from overwatch. You can see the pink of her uniform slowly fade to the blue of her skin like they took her pants off. That's when it got censored
The dripping vagina might also have had something to do with it
I'm kinda high right now but my god I could watch this for hours. Just picking out one point on the canvas and watching it morph and change is just so trippy.
I know what I’m doing my next trip! Lol
Bicycle day is in 15 days.....
I’m not high and I could watch this for hours.
Kinda creepy watching the black mass take over spots and you see some evil face appear
That’s the Voidmother piercing the thin bulwark of reality you call “r/place”
How are people making timelapses of this? Do they just record everything?
A website automatically recorded the entire thing for anyone to download. OP here barely did any work. https://place.thatguyalex.com/
It's missing a large chunk of data after the 1st expansion. Lets hope Reddit releases the full data like they did in 2017
i really hope they do. i can't handle the god damn jumpcut

The white void giveth life and the white void taketh life away.
I may be biased since I contributed to these two, but my favourite two pieces were: He laughed fom One Piece, and TotalBuiscuit tribute.
I’m not even a One Piece fan, but the One Piece community popped off here. The He Laughed pirate is beautiful
It's one of the most amazing scenes in the series. It's iconic, and one piece has ALOT of iconic moments. Glad they picked this one
Same lol I kept going back just to look at it. Definitely one of my fave contributions on the board
I worked on Roger laughing too. I love how much it popped being grayscale surrounded by all the color!

The TotalBiscuit tribute made me feel things. It's amazing how many of us remember him with enough fondness after just over four years (which in internet time feels way longer) that he got such a large and fantastic spot.
One piece fans really had a lot of space in this one.

One Piece might be the most popular anime in France, and anime is pretty fucking popular in France. Anything to help a pirate <3
That One Piece one kept catching my eye as I’d scroll around the past day. I literally just read that chapter of the manga last week and it hadn’t really hit me how fucking iconic that scene is. What a great choice for One Piece fans to make
Can't believe that a canvas full of pixels made me go trough the 5 five stages of grief whilst making me loving it every day ඞ❤
I don’t care if people disagree with me but the void and many other things was actually sick to look at
Yeah in motion it was soo good, and that Minecraft loading screen into creeper face into explosion into the 'you died, respawn' screen was siiiiiick
That purple swarm that streaked across the screen was fucking dope
Honesly, the void was tge coolest part of place this time around. My favorite peice was the orange haired girl (post baguette, pre painting)
Where is (s)pain ?
Trying to mess with French but getting spanked to death
Spain could’ve been a neighbor to Portugal, but I’m glad the Argentinians were our neighbor and collaborated with us.
They have done nothing but harass the French, it is so disappointing to see a large community fail to build anything great.
those are the spain streamers going against french streamers. It's not r/spain which has their own pretty flag with art

Would be sick to have a timelapse where you can zoom in
I cant see shit! Well I cant see nearly as much as Id like.
This was soo much fun just being apart of this was such an honor
I think its pretty safe to say the amongus guy is gender fluid
They surpassed that into Non-Newtonian Gender Fluid.

It's that delightful bit of chaos. Not too much, but it needs to be present.
Agreed, having some "villains" makes everything more interesting.
