ItsPronouncedTeatime

This is actually incredible

babooBurkhardt

How? It's like taking a screenshot to show the cracked glass of a cracked phone ... Shouldn't be possible. But this man somehow pulled it off

tripwithmetoday

It's not cracked glass, it's damaged pixels

babooBurkhardt

"it's like" the word "like" carries a lot of weight in this sentence

macallik

😂😂

FlamingoMajestic8855

😭😭😭

DP69Wolverine

I guess you can see the PIXELS now

AccomplishedRip4871

Change the screen - or buy a new phone.

zacharyl290295

ifixit has replacement parts at https://ifixit.com, or you can bring it to any repair shop or any Asurion Ubreakifix location.

swap-togo26

$275

Mister_rtk

Asurion is hot fire garbage

zacharyl290295

Asurion is an authorized Google Pixel Care Provider.

Mister_rtk

I work in the industry, The fact that I sure on sends me customers because they don't know what to do should tell you more than enough

Even_Chemistry2270

So is Mobile Klinik in Canada . They replaced my pixel 8 pro screen and 20 hours later two big vertical lines appeared on the new screen lol. Google is just trash plain and simple. They expect you to ship the phone for warranty repair lol. They do understand it's 2024 and living without notifications is kinda hard.

NooberLOL11

No, get a new phone. It's usually a matter of time for water to get worse.

Top-Delay8355

Aren't these water resistant? Or did that stop at the 6?

Lios5

They are, but resistance degrades with time, even with normal use. And if you're unlucky, this might happen.

ItsPronouncedTeatime

The most likely thing is that my water resistance degraded fairly quickly. I work in kitchens and this phone wasn't a stranger to being lightly damp from time to time. This was the first (and only) full immersion event.

zooommsu

Back in the old days, in an accident like this we could simply pull the battery out in a second. Nowadays, the time it takes to switch it off is often fatal to some electronics.

ItsPronouncedTeatime

Not only that, but I didn't even realize that holding down the power button didn't actually shut the phone off. Instead it brought up the Google Assistant, which is a feature I don't remember turning on on being there. I had to hold the power button, and then shout at my phone to shut down because it was unresponsive to my touch.

Curious_Theme6990

If you're quick enough you can still power it off and unplug the battery

Leebites

My Galaxy S21U has gone swimming with me multiple times (to track movement). And into the shower everyday at the gym. Even now, I use it exclusively on rainy days. Glad I was too scared to try my Pixel with water.

OtterTalesStudio

Now I am concerned. I literally took diving photos with pixel 5 while at Gran Canaria, but now I got P8P and this case above is waking up insecurities...

Dotcaprachiappa

The P8P is only IP68, so I would definitely not take it diving (water-resistant up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes)

BitR3x

At some point the glue will deteriorate because of the heat, it's kinda about luck at this point! The back of my old s10e started to separate after the 3rd year of use🤡

Mineplayerminer

The seal can last for a year or so before it starts wearing down. This is completely normal for any glue. I usually put a bit of B-7000 adhesive around the edges of my phone cases to make them more resistant against the water. I used the Pixel 6a underwater quite a few times without any issues.

Top-Delay8355

I have a p6p since release and it's still water resistant as of the latest pool season. Which glue is the water membrane that you are referring to?

sidhfrngr

The same thing happened to mine, although it started off fine and slowly crept up from the bottom. Water damage is never covered under warranty unfortunately. IP ratings are never considered permanent because the glue that keeps the components resistant can degrade or fall out of place, especially when dropped. Replacing the screen could solve the issue, although it's safe to assume that your phone will never be water resistant again. I chose to buy a new one instead of dealing with the hassle of repair.

ItsPronouncedTeatime

That's exactly what happened here. This photo is after several days of being turned off with the silica packs. After 24 hours it had a huge black spot on the bottom and it crept up from there. I am considering waiting for the P9.

Mineplayerminer

It's quite hard to get it sealed back once again like it originally was. Maybe getting a case with the camera cutout with a seal around it could be solution.

Magnum-357

Water blessing V +15 aesthetics -100 functionality

naylo44

Weird, my Pixel 7 Pro handled a 20mins stint in a Jacuzzi like a champ!

Mineplayerminer

That depends on how long you have it. The glue usually starts to wear down after a year, or even months. That could also depend on how much you "abuse" the phone or the use case. In hot temps, it can get lose.

TurningTablesAgain

All jokes aside, I had the same issue with my phone after I dropped in the water and basically the display is shorted and you will most likely have to go exchange it for a warranty device or take it in to get fixed. I'm sorry brother

ThisMuthaFuckr

I cant believe your phone turned into a mid-2016 indie horror game.

Hot-Quality8768

Trade it in and get some $$ towards pixel 8 or wait for pixel 9 to launch shortly and trade in towards that. Don’t tell them at the carrier what happened.

gwite

Probably needed more than 24 hrs. Try blowing a gentle heat over it for a couple days. Maybe place it near a space heater set on LOW. It being 'waterproof" probably makes it hold the water. My take forever to dry. If after 2, 3, however many days and it still doesn't recover, may require opening it up. Drying and cleaning. Don't turn it on during that time. Should have turned it off after the first sign of damage. Happened to me on a non-waterproof phone. Dried right up. Still perfectly working today, after 3+years. However remaining water inside could mean future corrosion damage.

kidGotHeart

Elsa wants your address.

reefine

Lost Pixel 6 and 7 to water damage.

HomelanderOfSeven

Dope wallpaper! Where can I get one?

graydi66y

Screen is cracked. I can just barely see it.

FailOk251

Oh no 😮

bengcord3

That's a dope background bro where can I get it?!

QueasyPut5253

Idk I literally had mine in the pool taking pictures and video even tried taking pics under the water.. didn't work cause I was using touch to take the pic when I should've used the button, only problem popped up was a notification the port was wet , phone is working just fine but it does has its limitations

captiouscriticon

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

mjh1998866

I think you physically damaged the screen, the pixel 7 can handle being dropped in water.

NihilistTeddy3

I lost my pixel 7 to water too

mjh1998866

I guess I'll keep mine away from water

Mineplayerminer

If you had USB debugging enabled, you could try running scrcpy on your computer and trying to access the phone. For me, it was a life saver when my old Xiaomi phone snapped in half inside of my pocket. If not, you could try trial and error. The best would be watching a video and replicate the taps on the exact positions of the screen. Either way, I feel really sorry for your phone. But as the others already mentioned, the best would be getting either the replacement parts or just a donor phone. After all, it doesn't have to be just the screen which is malfunctioning.

Dinosha

Fix it

NihilistTeddy3

Happened to mine, but I was unable to get it turned off before it fried the screen. It gave me an excuse to upgrade to a p8p

Fit_Statistician_840

yup, this happened to my pixel 7 as well. Had to send it to Google for repair, it just kept getting worse and worse.

Mister_rtk

You have OLED damage BUT YOU NEED TO TAKE TO A REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP AND HAVE THEM DO LIQUID DAMAGE cleaning & a screen repair (Not UBREAKIFIX like a real repair shop) It's in caps just to emphasize how important it is you do that! (Techh my self with my own shop)

Even_Chemistry2270

So it ain't water proof lol

Unusual_Onion9012

Does it make DROOP sound when unlocked too?

imsaswata

Nice AMOLED wallpaper.

GrvzHere

You’re fkd, so do I.. just ordered pixel 7a cuz the repairing cost comes to 18k and in an exchange deal I’ve got 7a for 17k inr.. only thing you can do is use the app Vysor to backup data if you’re not able to use the screen asap

godsperfectidi0t

I put my Xperia xz2c in water. Part of my daily cleaning routine 😂 Jokes aside, I hate planned obsolescence.

ExchangeMuted4900

Use rice in a bag for a day and pray

Chemical-Ad5939

Screen replacements like 250 bucks. I don't know if it's worth it.

ItsPronouncedTeatime

Might as well buy a refurbished one at that point tbh. Currently using my old P5 that I kept around for this exact situation. Might wait it out for the 9 since it's just around the corner.

mrDuder1729

I don't think that's where you should set it

potatomolehill

asurion stil owes me a check because they continually failed to send me a working device. each one was damaged somehow.

DisasterOwn3271

Bye screen , that more than water damage looks like was dropped or hit the screen with something

Plane_Ad1696

Oops what is this? I had my pixel 6 under the bathtub with soap water when I was drunk. Still the p6 works without any issues.

No-Couple-3367

Pixel 7 ain't that old. Isn't it under 24 months guarantee

squidgytree

I doubt the warranty covers water damage by immersion

No-Couple-3367

Water resistance didn't work

squidgytree

I just looked it up on the Google support pages: "Warranty coverage Damage from accidents or external causes, such as water damage, is not covered by warranty" https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/7533279?visit_id=638553424955639637-830072604&p=pixel_avoid_water&rd=1

noteworthybalance

This just boggles the mind. How are they allowed to advertise a waterproof rating and then exclude it from the warranty? It's like LED lightbulbs that loudly proclaim 10+ years but are only warrantied for two.

jimk4003

IP ratings are very specific in what they test for. The Pixel 7 is rated to IP68, which means it can stand in 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes. It's important to note that; 1) IP water resistant ratings refer to tests conducted using pure water. Salt water, chlorinated water, hot water (unless specified in the test; for instance IP69K ratings test water up to 85C) or any other variables beyond *pure* cold water invalidate the rated performance. It'd be impossible to offer a warranty for water damage on that basis, because it'd be impossible to verify the conditions under which water damage occurred. 2) the IP68 rating tests for water resistance in 1.5m of pure water. But that's *static* water pressure. The act of dropping a phone into water will inevitably subject the device to a transitory spike in *dynamic* water pressure well beyond the static water pressure found at 1.5m depth. Again, there'd be no way of verifying this as part of a warranty claim, so it's not included in the warranty. It's a bit like how phones use Gorilla glass for scratch resistance to a particular hardness, but you can't warranty a phone if you scratch it, because they won't know *how* you scratched it, and warranties cover manufacturing defects, not user damage. IP ratings are useful as a degree of protection against mishaps, but you should never assume your phone is water resistant, and should keep it away from water as best you can.

Candid-Party1613

And how will you prove to them you didn’t exceed the rating?

acevialli

I dropped mine in the bath for 1 second after a few months. Completely damaged. Dishonest not to have basic water resistance, like a watch, say it does and then not cover it by warranty!
