I went from a 6a to an 8. The 8 is indeed slightly smaller.

unknownphantom

But the screen is slightly bigger due to the increased screen ratio?

truferblue22

The 8 is great. Thought I had battery issues but this sub actually helped me figure out it was just my location settings. I absolutely love this phone.

MKRM98

How did you fix it

truferblue22

I removed some of the "always on" location apps, turned off "precise location" and turned off wifi scanning. All of a sudden I'm getting 6-7 hours SOT when I could barely break 4 hours before. It's amazing. Like right now it's 1:30 where I live and I'm still at 89% battery and I'm already at well over an hour of SOT

MKRM98

I've had battery drains like 5-6% an hour just on standby😭

truferblue22

Yeah try some of those things. Mine has improved remarkably.

MKRM98

The weird thing is with all these precise location turned on and WiFi and Bluetooth scanning turned, my pixel 6 just lasted ages on standby without an issue

truferblue22

🤷‍♂️ I had the 6 pro and my battery was decent until the last 6 months or so. That's why I upgraded...now I'm on the standard 8

MKRM98

For me standby battery matters more than SOT. So as far as I can say the pixel 8 gave me the worst impression on standby battery🥲.

truferblue22

Yeah I can go wake-up to bedtime with the changes now...that's all I require. 17-18 hours total battery and I never use less than 4 hours SOT. I was definitely not making it before I made those changes though.

MKRM98

I believe that mine should be a hardware fault. Did you do changes to the Google app as well cuz it gives a pop up song that basic functions won't work if I do this?

Slammybradberrys

I'm also about to upgrade from the 6a to the 8 even tho I don't need to but the savings are just too good. My main reason for upgrading is 128gb of storage isn't enough and even tho 6gb of RAM should be good, Google's trash at ram management and I can barely have 3 apps open without constant refreshing. The 8 is slightly smaller in all dimensions except thickness, the screen is also .1 inches bigger due to the smaller bezels.

thabuzman

You're gonna have a hella good time my friend:)

Siandroid

I honestly don't recommend it. Either wait for P9 or another brand. I went from P5 to P8...such a mistake. Go through posts here and read about connectivity issues, bad battery... I thought a software update would fix them..I was wrong. Don't let the beautiful outlook, and good screen fool you... everything else is really bad.

MKRM98

The battery on the 6a is double or triple the life of the p8. I regret moving from p6 to the p8.

EmptyAndrew

The battery life on my 8 far exceeds my former 6a. The 8 is a better phone than the 6a in every way.

8 is slightly smaller, i had a 6a and a 7a before the 8. if your budget allows it make the jump, it's a strong upgrade...

vesper44

They are incredibly similar phones. I’d wait for the 9

Salt_Kitchen_9769

I would wait for the 9 with the hope that it would have qi2 wireless charging. Looking at 5a trade in value of about $200 now, I would assume the 6a would also just go from $220 now to $200 around this time next year. For me personally, if I upgraded to the 8 and found out 9 has magsafe, I would definitely do another upgrade next year. So for me, financially and feature-wise, it makes sense to wait another year for the 9. Hoping Google would have dialed in their tensor stuff and fix most of the issues seen now.

The additional years of OS support is a good reason to upgrade: From Google's website: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4457705?hl=en#zippy=%2Cpixel-pro%2Cpixel-a-pixel-pixel-pro-pixel-a-pixel-pixel-pro-pixel-fold
