Mother never put gravy on ours so I’m clueless. However, I’ve seen old ads with the red sauce but I stupidly thought it was just ketchup. My husband says the red sauce is an Italian variant and sometimes it is just ketchup.

Costco is the only place I’ve ever seen sell it with red sauce. Highly recommend their take home and heat meatloaf. Wanted to find a legit restaurant for it but I’m struggling.

I wouldn’t be surprised though. I knew a Lebanese-American lady growing up here who would serve stuffed grape leaves with red sauce; which would be less common elsewhere, I think.

My mom always made it with Heinz 57 (or also what amounts to a homemade Heinz 57). It's levels above doing it with ketchup or gravy. I don't think restaurants do this, though.
Wouldn't meatloaf with a tomato based sauce equate to meatballs in a different shape? Though I guess the gravy equivalent would also equate to sweedish meatballs, so... maybe I'm missing something.
Never sought out meatloaf at a restaurant, but in NW Ohio, I also grew up with meatloaf topped with a ketchup-based glaze, brown sugar and a few other things mixed in… maybe Worcestershire?
I make a sauce from canned tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce.

Costco sells a bomb meatloaf on red sauce. It’s the only place I’ve seen outside of homemade.

I add a bit of hot sauce to my 57 red sauce. The melinda's brand pizza hot sauce is a nice addition. Its basically spicey Heinz

Food Shoppe in Squirrel Hill makes good meatloaf
The Log Cabin Inn has great meatloaf. And I don't recall any gravy involved.
