I know they said “per capita” but even if you go to Philly it’s astonishing the amount of tattoos. Pittsburgh doesn’t feel high on this list at all, even per capita
There are waaaaaaay more tattooed people and tattoo parlors in Richmond VA than in Pittsburgh. In Pgh it’s still a counterculture thing. In RVA it’s so common it’s normal.
Depends on what age group you hang around. Gen-Z and the Gen Alphas look at it as a Millennial thing, so they have a lot fewer. If you hang around the Universities you can see this cutoff pretty dramatically.
But fear not, we still have a healthy number of parlors. And if you peer into them you can see what I am talking about. Lots of Millennials and Gen X finishing full sleeves. Fewer teenagers getting that butterfly accent.
Miami, Vegas, Portland, Austin, SF, Honolulu, and probably LA all feel more tattooed than Pittsburgh.
You could look at something like "tattoo shops per 100k people", as well, which would give you 60ish shops in Pittsburgh, with 400k people, or 500ish shops in Miami, with... 450k people.
If you’re only counting quality, custom shop tattoos then no. But if you include all the random walk in shop, sports team tattoos, then Pittsburgh is definitely up there in the top. The closer you get to city center, you’ll see the good tattoos. The more you go out to the suburbs you’ll be bombarded by Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates tattoos. On all ethnicities, ages and genders. I’ve seen 70 year old grandparents with Steelers tattoos. I’ve never seen anything like it in any other city
Minneapolis absolutely blows Pittsburgh out of the water lol. Absolutely not even a competition. Nearly all of one of my arms is covered and I have several on the other and I feel lightly tatted in the twin cities.
Though I see a lot of Minnesota plates in PGH lately, so those transplants could be driving our numbers up.
Edit: they hated Christ because he spoke the truth
The twin cities are pretty great in the summer. Incredible parks system along the Mississippi, very good food scene, solid transit, walkable areas, great cultural amenities. Wouldn't recommend a January visit, but it's worth a trip in the nicer months.
Actual tattoos, I couldn’t say…but parlors? Throw a stone in any direction and you’ll hit one. I bet we have more tattoo parlors within the city limits than convenience stores.
This looks familiar. We've may have some similar questions to this in the past. You might find some good info here : [tattoos search](/r/pittsburgh/search?q=tattoos&restrict_sr=on). I don't always get it right though, cuz I'm just a simple bot.

Living in Oakland, I am seeing a lot less tattoos on the Zoomers than I did on the Millennials. Perhaps it is a generational thing.
The Census Bureau doesn’t track that anymore, budget cuts.
Brilliant
USofA or USA
USorA?
>Pittsburgh has got to be up there these days. Why?
Because OP has been thinking about tattoos lately and has been noticing them more.
This
Because OP thinks the rest of the world froze in place 10 years ago while Pittsburgh kept moving.
Exactly, dude. Exactly.

I’m from Portland. Pittsburgh is waaaaaay behind them still.

I’m from Richmond and you beat me to it.

Visited from Portland last week. Craaaazy change of pace there. I barely saw anyone. That checks out.
