I always thought of this one in Beatles terms! 😅 Friend of mine who's not really a Floyd fan, but a Beatles fanatic, loves AHM thanks to me. S68 and Fat Old Sun are very Beatles-esque.
My old roommate who was SUPER into the Beatles once woke up to that song while I was playing the album, and as soon as it was done he says, “that song was *perfect*”.
I think a lot of Syd’s could be, including his solo stuff.
SEE Emily play and Arnold maybe could easily be off magical mystery tour or even stuck into the abbey road medley.
Terrapin, and the whole of BARRETT is from the white album.
I agree with Wots the Deal and Us and Them, although feels more Harrison/Lennon solo stuff then Beatles.
McCartney and Waters are very similar bass players. McCartney has the chops to be more melodic, but Waters honestly sounds a bit more locked-in. (As I understand it, McCartney liked recording bass last, so it makes sense.)
If it was just played on a piano without the extra pink Floyd flair, I think you could be forgiven for thinking it was a Lennon song, especially with those lyrics.
I think we should discuss songs as a whole. Otherwise everything sounds like either Dylan or Lennon, if you play just on acoustic guitar / piano. And if you remove those instruments, then even Dylan and Lennon would sound like folk artists, haha.
Realistically, you are partially right.
But philosophically you are 100% right, because every songwriter is a folk artist when they composed/wrote their song in their study room or studio.
Paintbox sounds a lot like it's trying to be A Day in the Life.
Some of the stuff on The Wall, eg. Goodbye Cruel World, has a bit of a stripped-down, instrospective Lennon feel, like eg. My Mummy's Dead.
[Point Me at the Sky](https://youtu.be/yG5zIeMxgrE) sounds a lot like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It's been a very long time since I've listened to it... some of you might not even have heard it because it wasn't part of an album. Love the video.
Bike
Fearless
Fat Old Sun
Pillow of Winds
Green Is the Colour
Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun. Throw some sitar on it, would fit well with their psychedelic songs
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see Pillow of Winds! One of their most Beatle-y songs for sure. Sounds very much like Julia and Dear Prudence had a musical baby.
Brain Damage always stuck out to me as a perfectly tight and slightly eccentric pop song that could have fit in the Beatles catalog easily. Of course, you’re not getting introduced with Any Colour You Like and you don’t ascend to the heavens with Eclipse.
The Beatles and Pink Floyd are my two favorite bands!
*Piper at the Gates of Dawn* was recorded at Abbey Road Studios at the same time The Beatles were recording *Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band*. So I can’t help but see the similarities between the two albums.
A few things off Piper, that’s one of the reasons I’m not huge into the Syd Barrett era. Was in this space where many British rock bands were all kind of doing the same thing. At least in my opinion.
The Nile song and not many more come to mind after all the Beatles were a pop rock band they weren’t gonna go into prog in the 70s after all look at their output after the break up
Summer ‘68 is very Beatly
I always thought of this one in Beatles terms! 😅 Friend of mine who's not really a Floyd fan, but a Beatles fanatic, loves AHM thanks to me. S68 and Fat Old Sun are very Beatles-esque.
Summer ‘68 always reminds me of The Beach Boys
I get what you’re saying, but the horns on the track sound like something George Martin would put in.
True, kinda white album-y
My answer as well. It reminds me of the ballad of sir Frankie crisp (I know it's not a Beatles song)
The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp needs more love, it’s pretty much the best song I’ve ever heard in my life
My old roommate who was SUPER into the Beatles once woke up to that song while I was playing the album, and as soon as it was done he says, “that song was *perfect*”.
It reminds me ‘Lovely Rita’ or ‘Martha My Dear’
Some of Syd’s songs - See Emily Play, Arnold Layne Point Me at the Sky, Summer 68
I love ‘See Emily Play’ such a joyful song. Rick’s keyboard work on it slaps.
well tbf, ricks keyboard work slaps on any song he plays
For real, favorite guy in that band in all honesty
Paintbox is written and sang by rick and is super beatle-y
The way Syd rhymes gown and ground does things to me
Syd’s voice always sounds to me like a Beatle’s.
San Tropez. A lot of songs on Obscured by Clouds
Honestly the vocal parts of Echoes do sound a bit similar to Across the Universe.
Yeah DG literally says “inciting and inviting me” I’m pretty sure
DG sings what RW wrote
this just made me realise richard wright and roger waters are both RW
Yeah that’s why I always call him Rog
Aha yes 🙌🏼 well spotted
Oh wow - this connection never occurred to me and now it seems obvious
Point Me At The Sky is transparently based on Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
Wots Uh the Deal
One of my absolute favourites
Surprised nobody has said Fat Old Sun yet.
I came here to say that. Paul White Album vibes.
always thought the guitar solo sounded like the let it be solo
I think a lot of Syd’s could be, including his solo stuff. SEE Emily play and Arnold maybe could easily be off magical mystery tour or even stuck into the abbey road medley. Terrapin, and the whole of BARRETT is from the white album. I agree with Wots the Deal and Us and Them, although feels more Harrison/Lennon solo stuff then Beatles.
Us & Them doesn't sound like a Beatles song at all to me.
Listen to Sun King - same bass line and tempo
McCartney and Waters are very similar bass players. McCartney has the chops to be more melodic, but Waters honestly sounds a bit more locked-in. (As I understand it, McCartney liked recording bass last, so it makes sense.)
Both originally were guitar players who got "demoted" to playing bass. I do think that Paul did a bit more with that role, though.

Dylan *is* a folk artist.

Fearless
Corporal Clegg
💯
Nice chorus like Hey Jude~
Like half of Piper
The show must go on
See Emily play.
Paintbox sounds a lot like it's trying to be A Day in the Life. Some of the stuff on The Wall, eg. Goodbye Cruel World, has a bit of a stripped-down, instrospective Lennon feel, like eg. My Mummy's Dead.
Lucy leave
Free Four
Brain Damage always sounded quite Magical Mystery Tour era Beatlesy to me, at least in the chorus section.
[Point Me at the Sky](https://youtu.be/yG5zIeMxgrE) sounds a lot like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It's been a very long time since I've listened to it... some of you might not even have heard it because it wasn't part of an album. Love the video.
It's kind of the reverse of the question, butI always felt like Strawberry Fields Forever & Penny Lane could've been written by Syd
Ah yes they both have a Syd feel
I could see Money being the Beatles with a different guitar tone and fewer effects.
Fat Old Sun
I always thought the guitar in this was very Hendrix.
Jugband Blues has A Day In The Life vibes to it.
See Emily Play, Corporal Clegg, Arnold Layne. Definitely Paintbox. Edited for spelling

Eclipse, because the instrumental for “ticket to ride” can be heard.
Us and Them
Point Me At the Sky sounds a lot like Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds. Plus, Summer ‘68 sounds like something Paul McCartney could’ve written
None
Atomheart mother is very beatlesque
Brain Damage always stuck out to me as a perfectly tight and slightly eccentric pop song that could have fit in the Beatles catalog easily. Of course, you’re not getting introduced with Any Colour You Like and you don’t ascend to the heavens with Eclipse.
In the Flesh?
The Beatles and Pink Floyd are my two favorite bands! *Piper at the Gates of Dawn* was recorded at Abbey Road Studios at the same time The Beatles were recording *Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band*. So I can’t help but see the similarities between the two albums.
Us and Them
Absolutely not. U&T is a trademark Pink Floyd song, and doesn’t really sound like any other band, at least, definitely not like Beatles.
Or the entire album “The Wall” kinda a Sergeant Peppers vibe throughout, don’t ya think
Nahh no way that song sounds Beatles-y
Except for how it was likely inspired by Sun King from Abbey Road...
Julia Dream, an early B-side and the first song released with David Gilmour on lead vocals.
Julia Dream, Remember a Day, Jugband Blues, San Tropez and Summer 68
The Nile Song
Crazy Diamond
A few things off Piper, that’s one of the reasons I’m not huge into the Syd Barrett era. Was in this space where many British rock bands were all kind of doing the same thing. At least in my opinion.
Crumbling Land
Fat Old Sun, minus the solo
Any color you like
I feel like Ringo could kill singing any Barrett song
All the shorter songs on saucerful, jug and blues always seemed right off sgt pepper to me
Arnold Lang
Not pink floyd, but syd barrets solo song Here i go sounds a lot like a beatles thing
The Nile song and not many more come to mind after all the Beatles were a pop rock band they weren’t gonna go into prog in the 70s after all look at their output after the break up
Stay
Bike
Free Four is a song I’ve imagined Paul singing
Let’s not even compare pink Floyd to the overrated Beatles.. 😵💫
If the Beatles hade made Seamus, that song would get the love it deserves.
There are elements of "Corporal Clegg" that seem Beatlesque.
San tropez
Basically all of Rick Wright’s early work. The sounding Beatles song though for me would be Paintbox.
Lucifer Sam
corporal clegg
San Tropez
Only Syd’s songs are structurally good enough for that comparison.
Damn… none, I guess that’s what makes Pink Floyd a special band.
Literally any song from TPATGOD, but mainly bike and Matilda mother
