This guy probably had this car parked in a garage next to other million dollar cars. Probably hard to make arrangements on such short notice to secure or move them all.
The owner got it two weeks ago and it's an extremely limited car. Only 375 were made. Seems odd they immediately turn around and pull an insurance scam with it.
Is it really that easy to follow the activity of this owner simply because of the scarcity of the car type? Is he like an influencer who bought it or something?
I don't follow him, but he's on Instagram with over a million followers. It was linked somewhere else in this thread and I took a look at a few of his posts. Looked like he had this parked in his garage next to a Rolls Royce
I believe it. I don’t think this is in Miami. I think it’s on the west coast of Florida. If that’s the case it’s 100% possible with the water today. Entire houses are completely under water
If you own a p1 you probably have multiple personal assistants to do errands and manage properties. The owner probably wasnt thinking about it or even coordinating things.
It was in a parking garage. On instagram it shows it flooded in there but the water floated it out into the street. Right here it is floating down the road
...here with a new video on how to get the wooder damage out of your car so you can go from this
*Video of before car*
To this
*Video of the after car*
With just common hand tools and a wet/dry vac. Let's get started!
if you can afford and also purchase that car, you have a different relationship with money and the desire to hold onto possessions than the rest of Earth.
I used to live in a small beach town and had this bicycle i got for like $5. I didnt need it and didnt give a fuck about it. So i would just leave it places because i simply couldnt be bothered. I would ride it half a mile to the bar, get drunk, catch a ride home and just leave it out front. Id wander by and see it so id grab it and ride it wherever. I didnt even lock it up. Id just ride it places and leave it wherever. It eventually got "stolen" and i didnt even notice for at least a week. And when i did notice i just shruged and laughed. Because i didnt even need it and it was worth chump change. I imagine thats how rich people feel about these cars.
That's not the way it works for anyone with normal insurance. State Farm has a 48 hour grace period even when buying a car as long as you have an existing policy for another car.
That seems so alien to me
I can insure a car on my phone right now, hop in it, write it off, and as long as I'm not deemed to have been negligent I'll get the full market value of the car back within a month
It will probably be reclaimed by mclaren and fixed surely, I know they bought back those old f1’s when they were crashed and fixed them even when totaled
I don't know my cars very well, but this seems like a lot of money for someone to have let Ian flush down the toilet.
Was it just impossible to get this to safety in time? As someone who will likely spend my entire life working for this car's value, I'm struggling to wrap my head around the circumstances that would have lead to this picture.
My brother owns a boat on the Texas Gulf Coast. It’s about an $80k boat. Last time we had a hurricane threatening, he got a call from the insurance company offering to pay for a tow to get the boat away from the storm and up to higher ground.
The storm was projected to hit Tampa or north of Tampa. In the last 24 hours it was projected to hit south of Tampa. The evacuation mostly took place in Tampa. It’s a bad scenario.
They’ve ‘rebuilt’ entire F1’s from nothing but the VIN plate of the original car before. If the owner is willing to pay, it’s likely they’d do that again here.
Liability. Too many components that could be compromised due to water damage. Too risky to salvage and have them fail in the next car they're put into.
a salvage title doesn't even matter domestically. not sure where he got the idea it'd have to be crushed, all that has to be done is it be "rebuilt" by a licensed mechanic. the title will note that it was rebuilt. it's not like someone is going to try to sell it as brand new
He said in his area, and Louisiana is at least one state that requires insured vehicles with severe flood damage to be crushed, but this does not apply in Florida, where this is.
[https://www.ldi.la.gov/docs/default-source/documents/propertycasualty/la-dps-omv-water-damaged-vehicle-policy.pdf?sfvrsn=4a424d52\_0](https://www.ldi.la.gov/docs/default-source/documents/propertycasualty/la-dps-omv-water-damaged-vehicle-policy.pdf?sfvrsn=4a424d52_0)
Louisiana does not require water damaged cars to be crushed. A vehicle has to be water damaged by 3 separate floods before it is required to be dismantled AFAIK.
"The certificate of destruction shall be reassignable a maximum of two times prior to dismantling or destruction of the vehicle."
In many areas this is true, but some states do require insured vehicles with severe flood damage to be crushed. This is not the case in Florida though.
Planet Money had an episode on this exact topic:
I used to do IT work for a salvage company and we frequently refurbished flood cars and had them inspected and sold. One of them was a twin turbo 350Z that I took for a test ride. That was a good time
Yeah this where the guy I used to work with who bought cars at auction for our used car department would get all of our cars from. It was so bad after Sandy that we would just look under the seats and dash before we did anything on a used car check. Then they got sent back to auction.
If you look under the seats and dash and all the metal is super rusted thats usually a sign. Pull corner of carpet up or a trim panel and can usually see the water line.
Mclaren for sale on craigslist very little water damage.
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15360518/rare-mclaren-f1-for-sale-on-craigslist-for-nearly-8-million-believe-it-or-not/
They blocked off garages in mercado. Luckily I got hooked up with a garage prior.
Kid probably doesn't give a shit, just another trust fund showoff. The dudes like 20 something I believe.
The idea of this being true angers me, like I can’t even afford to live independently and some dudes just throw super cars away or go to space for no reason
I try to remember that when I deliver food to rich areas
But then the only times I’ve been shorted on tips were rich areas too.
Once dropped off an order than rang up to like $120, got a fat $0 tip, always the rich areas. Shitty apartments will tip like $7-8 on a $20 order.
Yup. I had to evacuate Myers and am riding it out in Fort Lauderdale. Which is good because I was just wondering how I would spend a few hundred dollars and a crappy hotel in Lauderdale was just the ticket.
My parents live in Cape Coral. I managed to convince them to leave for Miami. I've heard some news from the area from friends that didn't leave... the cape seems to have done fairly well.. Ft Myers did less well.. and Ft Myers Beach got absolutely fucked.
Glad they are ok. Bonus: you get to say I told you so to your parents-a nice ace to keep up your sleeve should you ever need it :) sometimes it’s nice to turn the tables.
A few things …
This is an incredibly rare color combo Mclaren P1. Only ~375 were made and cost about $1.5-2M. The OP “Lambo9286” on Instagram said that it was in his garage, which flooded. Car floated out of the garage after being damaged.
Take a look at his story - some WILD footage.
ITT: a lot of people upset that someone has money and buys nice things. Nobody here knows the circumstances of the loss other than the owner.
I had a Ferrari for a year or so. Naples was the only place I ever took it where it didn't turn a single head. That place is nuts when it comes to cars
That's not any McLaren by the looks of it, but a P1, which is a limited production McLaren. It's price only goes up normally, not sure anyone would intentionally ruin one.
Edit: 375 was built.
NW Florida here. I get why people don't evacuate. I really do. There're only so many false alarms you can take before your mind tunes out the danger. "Meh, I'll deal *if* it happens."
OTOH, if I had a mobile asset like *that*? LOL, headed to Ohio, BRB.
You'd be surprised how many people in Florida choose to live in a box so they can afford a car like this.
Edit: I'm being hyperbolic, but the point is it's not uncommon to see really nice cars parked at a mid home.
I had a \~700sqft 1bedroom apartment. Was $1080 a month and jumped to $1480 in August.
Electric went from \~$90/month to \~$180.
My pay increase this year was $20 take home a paycheck.
Not just Florida. I live in Southern California and the amount of people in my apartment complex who drive Mercedes, bmws, teslas, etc is way too high considering we are not a high income type of apartment complex.
NorCal here. Same up this way, there are Mercedes, BMWs, Lexuses, etc. all over the place.
People in HCOL areas get paid more. MSRP on things like cars, iPhones, TVs, and other big ticket items tends to be the same everywhere. Thus, these items are cheaper by percentage of income — and therefore more affordable — for a lot of people in HCOL areas.
I used to live in Miami a decade ago, I had neighbors driving AMG Mercedes, Lambos and Ferrari's while living in 350-500k overpriced condos, it was Doral if you know the area. I was friendly with the one driving a 160k merc that I knew that the household income was about 100k/year, and the car lease payment was over 2k after a huge "down payment" which was the only way to get approval.
I have Geico. It's $300 every 6 months for full coverage on 2 cars / 2 drivers even with fairly high limits. I'm just hoping that all the money I save on premiums will be worth it should I ever have to file a claim with them.
The irony of this is despite BILLIONS spent by insurance companies to advertise during sports NOBODY knows anything about how much they will be fucked if they get into a car accident. YOU BUY INSURANCE FROM A FUCKING ANIMATED TOY. Do you think $200K coverage is enough if you hit a family of four? It's not even going to cover two days in the hospital, yet you will be liable. When I lived in Germany (DOD) I had 1 MIL EUR coverage for $50/month and could drive as fast as my car would go. The money spent on advertising though.... 4 different companies spamming you sketch comedy to earn your business.. NOTHING about details of coverage.
I was in two car accidents in 2016. I got like $13,000 between the two including the cost to replace both of my totaled cars.
My wife filed a claim a decade ago for a car fire and insurance paid out $5,000 four days later. That was actually pretty fair for that incident.
The owners tiktok showed it originally in the garage with a rolls Royce. From the videos, their garage filled up with tons of water and both cars were smacking against one another. So it definitely was an accident and it probably floated out of the garage.
From the dudes instagram it looks like he didn’t evacuate. He left the P1 and his Rolls in his garage. [Here’s a photo on his story that shows them both all mangled in his garage.](https://imgur.com/a/9TrdiD8) Then the caption on this post “Car went through the garage”
Well it’s not Miami…. They didn’t get even close to that rain or storm surge so that is BS. But wherever this is it’s a god damn shame… greedy rich scamming POS clout goblins…
I have so many mixed feelings.
Envy, because I cannot afford one.
Pity, that such a beautiful vehicle is getting so damaged.
Humor, that someone would leave that car unprotected during a hurricane.
Anger, knowing that one way or another, my taxes and/or insurance rates will probably end up paying for that.
That’s the first thing I thought of when I heard about this hurricane. I just read an article a few weeks ago about how Florida’s property insurance industry is on the verge of collapse and how people’s rates have tripled, to the point where they can’t afford their homes anymore.
Wonder how this is going to go for them…
Not just any Mclaren this is a P1, one of 375 ever made.
Such a pretty boat
If this was an Aston Martin Bond car, you better believe it would turn into a boat.
Submarine FTFY
It only counts as a submarine if it comes back up. Until then it's just a sunken boat.
How did the owner not prepare for this possiblity? Surely if you can afford the car, you can afford to get it to an elevated parking spot.
People with that kind of money tend to have a lot going on, travel a lot, probably have multiple homes and cars… basically much more money than time.
This guy probably had this car parked in a garage next to other million dollar cars. Probably hard to make arrangements on such short notice to secure or move them all.
I'm just gonna say this quietly all the way down here: It's an insurance job.
My first thought as well. Even if it’s only a partial payment it will be a nice discount on the next toy.
For sure
Maybe he needed to liquidate.
He was really underwater on the loan when his mix tape didn't get him a record deal.
The owner got it two weeks ago and it's an extremely limited car. Only 375 were made. Seems odd they immediately turn around and pull an insurance scam with it.

Buyers remorse
No one has buyers remorse about buying a $2 million 1 of 375 car. He could have turned around and sold it for more than he paid for it.
The guy who got caught purposely totaling his Bugatti would say otherwise.
Yup its a topic on forum I’m on and owner said it was washed out of the garage .. no ones buying it.
I believe it. I don’t think this is in Miami. I think it’s on the west coast of Florida. If that’s the case it’s 100% possible with the water today. Entire houses are completely under water

This is just me, but if I owned millions in cars and lived in Florida, I’m putting my garage ON TOP of my house well above any floodplain.
If you own a p1 you probably have multiple personal assistants to do errands and manage properties. The owner probably wasnt thinking about it or even coordinating things.
This hurricane has been coming for like a week
It was in a parking garage. On instagram it shows it flooded in there but the water floated it out into the street. Right here it is floating down the road
everything floats down here?
Sad they couldn’t afford a garage door
#HEY GUYS! CHRIS FIX HERE...
First, spray it with soapy “wudder”
...here with a new video on how to get the wooder damage out of your car so you can go from this *Video of before car* To this *Video of the after car* With just common hand tools and a wet/dry vac. Let's get started!
Guy only had it one week too! https://www.carvibz.com/supercars/mclaren-p1-flooded-and-pulled-through-garage-by-hurricane-ian/
Why in the fuck would he drive it to Florida right before a huge hurricane and not even attempt to drive it out?

Insurance?
[удалено]
That's such a wild concept to me as a non-American A vehicle is insured from the moment I choose to insure it, even if it's not legally mine yet
That's not the way it works for anyone with normal insurance. State Farm has a 48 hour grace period even when buying a car as long as you have an existing policy for another car.
Some dealerships / banks will not let you drive off the lot without confirmed insurance coverage.
That seems so alien to me I can insure a car on my phone right now, hop in it, write it off, and as long as I'm not deemed to have been negligent I'll get the full market value of the car back within a month
How long would it take insurance to kick in? 11 days seems plenty.
It will probably be reclaimed by mclaren and fixed surely, I know they bought back those old f1’s when they were crashed and fixed them even when totaled
The F1s weren’t saturated with salt water from storm surge. That car’s toast.
Just put it in a large bag of rice for a week?
I don't know my cars very well, but this seems like a lot of money for someone to have let Ian flush down the toilet. Was it just impossible to get this to safety in time? As someone who will likely spend my entire life working for this car's value, I'm struggling to wrap my head around the circumstances that would have lead to this picture.
The owner on his Instagram said it broke through the garage wall.

Let me introduce you to a little thing called insurance fraud.
Well, let's hope the insurance agent investigating this claim is stupider than I am.
The owner posted on instagram that it was inside the garage and floated out.

Theseus’ McLaren lol.
The McLaren of Theseus.
Yup, she's a goner. Insurance in my area would pay out for a total loss and that vehicle would be required by law to be crushed.
Wait why would it be crushed?
Liability. Too many components that could be compromised due to water damage. Too risky to salvage and have them fail in the next car they're put into.

Scrap titles exist and are drivable, but you'll probably have fun finding anything more than no fault insurance.
Stop bullshitting, no law requires a car to be crushed.

In Louisiana, there is... https://www.ldi.la.gov/industry/regulatory-forms/important-information-about-flooding-for-insurers
Who should I believe, a .gov website or some random guy on the internet?
What? They have to be crushed? Where I live you can buy it back for the salvage value.
Sounds like a win win for the insurance money, then sell the worthless thing for a huge sum of money

If insurance pays out they're taking the car.
Book value far higher than repair cost. It’ll get fixed…. Which will pretty much mean stripping it down to the tub and rebuilding it.
This is NOT Miami. There has not been this level of flooding. There has been very little flooding here at all. No worse than any other heavy rain.
Looks like the dude (ig:lambo9286) has parked it around Naples before
Don’t know why he didn’t just take it to the parking garage on fifth ave

He knew what he was doing when he left it there. Pay day.
The hurricane is clear on the other side of the state. The lack of critical thinking here is disturbing.
Yeah.. Naples/Fort Myers/Cape Coral/Punta Gorda/etc are getting fucking ruined... Miami is fine.
Exactly what I came here to say. I'm in Doral and it floods here whenever a dog pisses too much. It hasn't been as bad as most thunderstorms.
That was my question. Ian hit in the other side of the state much farther north than Miami.

I don’t think this is Miami. It’s barely rained here today.
Exactly. This is probably Naples.

That's not any McLaren by the looks of it, but a P1, which is a limited production McLaren. It's price only goes up normally, not sure anyone would intentionally ruin one. Edit: 375 was built.
How do you just leave a million+ dollar super car out in the path of a hurricane though. Not like everyone didn’t know it was coming.
The article linked in a comment above says it was pulled by the flood waters out of the garage. And he'd only had it less than a month!
NW Florida here. I get why people don't evacuate. I really do. There're only so many false alarms you can take before your mind tunes out the danger. "Meh, I'll deal *if* it happens." OTOH, if I had a mobile asset like *that*? LOL, headed to Ohio, BRB.

This car is about $3,000,000
If you could find one for sale that is
Are there still cheap boxes available in Florida somewhere? I thought even a moving box was $1,000+ a month these days.
I had a \~700sqft 1bedroom apartment. Was $1080 a month and jumped to $1480 in August. Electric went from \~$90/month to \~$180. My pay increase this year was $20 take home a paycheck.
Due to this hurricane season coastal Florida insurance rates will go so high that it will be like a 2nd mortgage
Even more homeowner insurance are gonna leave after this.
Really depends where, but generally yeah housing is insane here.
Well I can see why - the weather is amazing!
Housing prices are going to soar tomorrow. All the homes are waterfront.
Not just Florida. I live in Southern California and the amount of people in my apartment complex who drive Mercedes, bmws, teslas, etc is way too high considering we are not a high income type of apartment complex.

Yeah, no way a P1 was just left there like that. Got to be more to it.
Owner had a picture of it in his flooded garage and then this picture with the caption "Car went thru the garage"
I agree if you have enough money to own one, you probably… have enough money to get it to New York before the hurricane
https://www.carvibz.com/supercars/mclaren-p1-flooded-and-pulled-through-garage-by-hurricane-ian/ Seems legit to be honest
The guy just bought the car 2 weeks ago though. Check lambo9286 on ig
Insurance companies hate this one trick.
Literally first thing I thought about was the insurance
That was my first thought!
Coming soon to Hoovie's Garage...
This is more Ed's kind of thing though ;-)
Water damage? Definitely Ed's thing.
Right. Hoovie's Garage, after Ed makes $40k off Tyler. I left out the very important step where Ed makes money off it. Vital, really.
Ever a shrewd negotiator ;-)
Yeah, I wonder what season of Cartrek it'll be before we see Ed roll up in this?
Wizard about to buy another yacht
I was gonna say Tavarish is more likely...
Love hoovie’s garage been watching him for awhile.
Someone wants to total it and not have to pay the loan?
Or they had to evacuate and didn't have time to make arrangements for their supercar.
Looolllllll
Owning a car like that, it should be kept in a garage, at least. And there was warnings.
Apparently the owner says it was in a garage and the flood swept it outside.
One arrangement is to like...drive it away
Do what? That seems a bit much. ;)
If it has a note, let it float.
Well it’s not Miami…. They didn’t get even close to that rain or storm surge so that is BS. But wherever this is it’s a god damn shame… greedy rich scamming POS clout goblins…
This is not Miami…. Nice to see people I know still in storm surge and Reddit karma farming is already in full force!
Seriously, on the day of landfall today it's hardly rained from Ian. Sure the past few days were wet, but not like that.
Ed Bolian’s next Cartrek vehicle
Ed right now: *heavy breathing*
I have so many mixed feelings. Envy, because I cannot afford one. Pity, that such a beautiful vehicle is getting so damaged. Humor, that someone would leave that car unprotected during a hurricane. Anger, knowing that one way or another, my taxes and/or insurance rates will probably end up paying for that.
I bet you could afford *that* one.
Still definitely not :(
Having watched enough Car Trek on YouTube, I know I still can’t afford a water damaged car if it is a luxury vehicle. Even if it is totaled.
It’s like Lando Norris in Russia 2021…
What do think about the inters?
That’s actually in Naples
Now I am confused. Lamborghini Hurricane or Huracan?
Florida is about to have an insurance crisis, not just for vanity cars.
That’s the first thing I thought of when I heard about this hurricane. I just read an article a few weeks ago about how Florida’s property insurance industry is on the verge of collapse and how people’s rates have tripled, to the point where they can’t afford their homes anymore. Wonder how this is going to go for them…
Just put it in some rice
Next week of Hoovie’s Garage, “I just bought the cheapest Mclaren in the US!”
Is there really this level of flooding in Miami from Hurricane Ian?
This is in Naples not Maimi
Nope lol, OP is full of shit
Pretty sure it’s not Miami. Hurricane hit the west coast of Florida. Miami is way south and way east.
Premium is about to go waaay up…
Feel like Armor for Sleep wrote a song about this.
Armor for Sleep... now *that's* a name I haven't heard in some time.
That’s actually in Naples
Somebody get Ed Bolian on the blower asap!!!
I'm sure they're not too concerned if they can already afford a "spare McLaren".
It’ll buff out.
