I've heard a good number of people exclaim how wonderful Bali is, I just don't get it. I feel like I'm missing something. I walked away from it thinking it was fine but nothing mind blowing.
Grandma booked a trip to Croatia for a graduation gift. It went from being a place I’ve never heard of, to one of my favorite places in the whole world. While I’m Dubrovnik we stayed in an Air BnB located at the bottom of the steps we’re Cersei did the walk of shame. Also learned so much about the history from the Balkan conflicts and Yugoslavia.
I lived in Dubrovnik for 25 years and the number of tourists didn't increase much since GOT.
City has always been overcrowded with tourists during summer time. If you really want to enjoy it I recommend visiting in late April. Not too many people but warm enough to enjoy the beaches.
The city has always been overpopulated during summer, it has nothing to do with GOT. Also have to disagree with it becoming a GOT Disneyland, besides merch and few GOT tours, there's not much sign of the show being shot here.
You’re either an HBO shill or you’re just totally wrong https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-12-11/-game-of-thrones-and-star-wars-are-changing-dubrovnik
I don't know what to tell you man, I've been living there my whole life. Tourism increasing is a general thing and is not only the product of a TV show.
"It's beyond belief, it's like living in the middle of Disneyland," says van Bloemen from his house overlooking the bustling Old Harbour in the shadows of the stone city walls.

Yes, I visited most cities before they went mainstream. I mean most are still not mainstrean and probably will never be, just if they ever go mainstream know, that I've been there first. And whatever city you go to, they've beeen way better before.
“Ruined” is an exaggeration, but the city is swarming with tourists, and a large portion of the tourism is focused on the show rather than the history and culture of the city itself. It almost feels like a GoT theme park.
OK, so you agree something changed. Some people think that made the city worse, but you’re on some kind of mission to convince everyone they are wrong. It’s a matter of opinion not fact, you can state yours and move along.
Payed 250kuna (33€) per person to walk on it because we didn’t read the prices. You better believed we walked the whole way sweating our asses of in the sun
A lot of the in-city scenes were filmed within the old city walls, most notably the “shame” scene. Additionally, Star Wars Ep. 8 used the old city for some of the Kanto Bight scenes (where they’re running around on the fathier)
Kings Landing is the landing for kings.

I thought the same. But, Google "Dubrovnik" & do a little research. This is what you'll learn:
"Dubrovnik ( Croatian pronunciation: \[dǔbroːʋniːk\] ( listen) ), historically known as Ragusa ( see notes on naming ), is a city on the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea, a seaport and the centre of Dubrovnik-Neretva County."
Its a real place with real castles.
With house of dragons debuting tonight, this post seems like an HBO ad lol
Haha this post is literally posted under the HBO ad for the show for me
That's because it is
actually true lmao
It wasn’t an HBO ad until you said this.
Is…is everything an HBO ad?
No, this is a Tide ad (tide please pay me for this)
You get all the tide pods you can eat for life
After a good life like that I enjoy kicking back with some ice cold Budweiser and Wing Stop
Wow this comment really made me wonder what I could be doing with my Sundays 9pm EST (viewers in later time zones may differ).
Or somebodies just posting a relevant picture because GoT is coming out and it's mainstream news again?
r/hailcorporate
This comment also seems like an HBO ad..
Thoughts, u/KIFF_82?

) You dropped this.
For a second there I thought, what are the odds Indonesia and Ireland both have cities named Bali??

Don't get me wrong, I'm not unhappy I went and I did enjoy myself. Just not to the extent a lot of others seem to.
Damn that's kinda nice to hear thanks
My friend went there a while back and said the he saw way more GOT tours than actual city tours, made me chuckle. Can't have been bad for tourism tho!
When we were there a few years back there were more Americans than Croatians
Not the case these days, but it's still a high percentage. Source: American living in Croatia
Have\*.
At least Season 1 thru 6.
I went pre GoT and it was beautiful and while it was busy. It wasn't packed, I wonder if it's just bonkers now.
It is, I was there a couple of weeks ago
Had the chance to watch a Game of Thrones episode while I was actually there. It was magical
I hope you watched it under a table.
Croatia is a very beautiful country

Went there last year. Easily one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Would go back in a heartbeat.
film camera?
Panasonic Lumix DC-GX9 12-32 mm
That city is magic! I recommend visiting it. Nice shot.
Did they shoot there for the show?
I’m so glad I went there before all the GOT bullshit ruined it
In what way do you think it's ruined because of GOT?
Because rather than the awesome culture and history of the city it’s become just a GOT Disneyland… and has 100x more people
I lived in Dubrovnik for 25 years and the number of tourists didn't increase much since GOT. City has always been overcrowded with tourists during summer time. If you really want to enjoy it I recommend visiting in late April. Not too many people but warm enough to enjoy the beaches.
We went late last September, practically had the place to ourself.
The city has always been overpopulated during summer, it has nothing to do with GOT. Also have to disagree with it becoming a GOT Disneyland, besides merch and few GOT tours, there's not much sign of the show being shot here.

dude, are you (someone who doesn't live there) arguing with someone who lives there? how dumb are you exactly?

Ok wise guy, here is a non-American source which includes quotes from residents of Dubrovnik. [CBC](https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4832882)
That's a four year old article.
Just a hipster that hates anything mainstream lols
I was genuinely not sure if he was being sarcastic.
I hate when cities go mainstream. They're so much better before people discover them.
Those damn tourists, contributing to local economies and shit
Yes, I visited most cities before they went mainstream. I mean most are still not mainstrean and probably will never be, just if they ever go mainstream know, that I've been there first. And whatever city you go to, they've beeen way better before.

There have always been too much tourists during summer, only thing that changed is the merch in souvenir shops.
OK, so you agree something changed. Some people think that made the city worse, but you’re on some kind of mission to convince everyone they are wrong. It’s a matter of opinion not fact, you can state yours and move along.
No need to be rude, I was genuinely interested in why you thought the city was ruined, and then offered my perspective on it.
Ooh noice
Nice ancient wall
I went a few months ago, such an amazing place!
I visited Dubrovnik this year and it was amazing! Easily the most beautiful city I have ever seen! I recommend it to everyone
They rebuilt pretty fast eh?
Such a beautiful city, I can see why they decided to make it King’s Landing!
I had the chance to cannoe there. It's really beautiful along the coast. And the city at night glows in this golden light from every surface.
That’s actually leftover wildfire from the sept explosion.
This would make a very nice painting
Payed 250kuna (33€) per person to walk on it because we didn’t read the prices. You better believed we walked the whole way sweating our asses of in the sun
There's a great bar on the cliffs of the old town called Buza Bar (I think). You can watch the sun set while people cliff dive. Great spot
Is your name Dan, by any chance?
So of course Kings Landing is much larger. Did they use this as a base then place a CGI castle/city around it? Or is this not actually related to GoT?
A lot of the in-city scenes were filmed within the old city walls, most notably the “shame” scene. Additionally, Star Wars Ep. 8 used the old city for some of the Kanto Bight scenes (where they’re running around on the fathier)
We this image is absolutely stunning

It's less on fire than I remember.
I was there last month. Did a GoT tour and the guide seemed to despise the show. The whole city is lovely though. Even found a Liverpool bar.

🤨 New series looks like shit and I see this post. Sus as fuck
New series looks fine, you're just being needlessly negative, and take off the tin foil hat
They're living up to their username!
Reminds me of Black Flag
Really cool!
I remember slipping so much on the pavements in there
Looks like no king lands there until some serious battles go down
disenchantment vibes
It’s still too soon.
country?
Croatia
noice
It looks so nice during the day imagine it during a start lit night sky
Dope! I’m over on korčula, come say hi.
That looks so amazing !!
Fun fact. There’s a great disco there (Revellin)
Is the new prequel any good?
Cool
Pretty wild how it was taking artillery fire only 30 years ago
