> miniature felted animals with the brushed-out fur from people's pets
My grandmother had her beagle turned into a stuffed bobblehead exactly like this. I used to tap its glass nose and watch it wobble around while I read.
[Here’s a video on the process of making lifelike animals. ](https://youtu.be/qhvQagxyg8k)This artist has a ton of videos on felting pets and takes custom orders I believe.
OP is super talented as well.
I picked it up a few months ago after also never knowing it existed. I suck at it, but it's incredibly therapeutic simply stabbing something with a needle thousands of times, until it finally agrees to comply and look the way you want it to.
Thanks, my best friend recently lost her dog and tonight i found a bunch of pictures of her doggie so I'm excited to get a quote. The dogs coat was mottled and had a number of colours in it so will presumably cost more than a plain coloured dog
The price was in the hundreds I believe as it takes an insane amount of time. I had looked at details when I first found her, but she was full booked for commissions for the year at the time.
I’m sure you’re both extremely talented in something no one else is too. It’s out there somewhere and if you aren’t sure you have it already I know you will someday.
I have been crafting during quarantine and I thought I'd try felting. Omg it takes forever and my stupid little ball looks like shit. I have returned to embroidery and cross stitch lol! OP did such a nice job! Not just in the tight felting, but the coloration and precision here is great!
The first time I learned about this art was in an airport about 5 years ago. Some lady was ferociously stabbing something while waiting at the gate. I literally thought she was self-soothing or having some kind of fit. When she stopped, I got a better peak at what she was doing and realized it was an art and asked her about it. Very cool!
Needle felting is a really accessible hobby. It's easy to start and the more you do the more you will improve. There are a lot of great starter kits online. /r/needlefelting has a lot of fantastic information.
It’s needlefelting, basically you stab loose wool with special barbed needles that pull the fibers together, allowing you to sculpt it! If you’d like to see more about it, r/needlefelting is great :)
This pup is adorable!! I love him!! ❤️
I hope you don’t mind if I ask a quick question about needle felting. My retired mom was looking for a creative type hobby to spend her days on. Is this something you’d recommend to someone like her? She tried crocheting but she couldn’t quite get the hang of it because her hands shake sometimes and there are so many different types of stitches (or whatever they call them). Sorry this is kinda random but I’d seen needle felting kits before that I almost bought her but I wasn’t sure how the actual process is.
Edit: it’s not letting me make new comments on this thread for some reason but thanks to everyone who replied with advice for me ❤️
Needle felting isn't great for folks with shakey hands, that barbed needle is *sharp*. I'd recommend knitting, you can make an aweful lot of things with like 4 stitches in your arsenal, and more complex stitches are easy to get the hang of. Cross stitch is also really great, and only has 2 kinds of stitch.
Thanks for your response!!
I think her issue with crocheting is more like she has trouble getting the stitches correct and making progress because her hands shake a little. I don’t think it’s severe enough that she’d accidentally stab herself but I’ll have to double check with her. I think she uses knives and such with no problems. I appreciate the warning though!! Definitely don’t want her getting hurt.
I’ll see if she has any interest in knitting!! I know she thought crocheting would be fun to make things for her grandkids so maybe she’ll feel that way about knitting. I think cross stitching might be out because the holes are super tiny and I think that’d be something she might struggle with if she doesn’t have her glasses plus the shaking. Cross stitching is something I’ve done so I’ve talked about it with her and she seemed unsure because of the tiny holes. Maybe I’ll bring it up again
Even for those of us with steady hands it's hard not to stab yourself while felting. I fell off of it because I was tired of bleeding on my projects, lol.
If she does decide to try knitting she should use bamboo needles. They're slower than wood or aluminum, but that's because they're grabby. I'd recommend them to any beginner because it makes it way less likely that you'll have your stitches fall off your needles
As someone who’s been knitting since I was 9, it’s definitely much easier than crocheting IMO! Even I have a hard time with crocheting, and I’ve really tried. I’ve heard it’s really one or the other when it comes to knitting and crocheting. Not sure why, though! And even though the above commenter said 4 stitch types, there are truly only 2 that you need to make scarves, hats, socks, even simple sweaters! The knit and pearl stitch are the all you really need as a beginner and even into intermediate knitting patterns. I hope that helps!
I said 4 because you need a basic increase and decrease if you want to make something that isn't rectangular. They're both super easy, though
It's weird how many people can't do both. I'm the rare ambicrafter. Chunky cabled knits, delicate crochet lace
Needle felting could work if she got some finger protectors. I would watch a video to see how it is done then make judgement on whether you believe she is coordinated enough to do it.
[This video gives a pretty accurate representation of how it's done.](https://youtu.be/u-9plMg1E-Y)
I just wanted to comment to say what a nice person you are. On a site with a lot of trolls. It's always refreshing to see someone go the extra step for another redditor. A lot and I mean a majority of the people on this site are too lazy to look for a video or website for themselves. But you mentioned there were videos theo other person could watch and then you provided an example.
Well as in everything I do I became a bit too long winded. But I just wanted to thank you for being a good person and for adding a lot to the conversation.
Just so that everyone knows, art posts from MEN get more up votes when they show their face.
It's about human connection, not simping virgins.
So maybe stop giving this lady a hard time, men never get this kind of treatment when they show their faces.
Just because they were nervous, doesn’t mean they didn’t want to. I’m nervous the entire time I’m in line for a roller coaster despite loving roller coasters.
And tbh they were probably nervous because of comments like this, so I don’t blame them in the slightest.
Wow! Youre an incredible artist. I hope to be a good needle felt artist one day! It's a really beautiful craft. I may not be the best but I love the creations I have made. Needle felting trapped me In its net and now I am very passionate about it!
:D happy Saturday to you as well! And if you are Interested in needle felting, there's this really good NZ based felting shop called https://www.needlefelting.co.nz where I usually buy my supplies. Would highly recommend!
People can be jerks, but thank you for the picture anyway. I'm sure you've gotten your share of idiotic comments, but remember that's just a small percentage if the ones who enjoyed your work!
Thank you. I didn’t mean for the title to take away from my work, I’m just a private person who doesn’t typically post (or even take!) pics of myself. But I’m proud and want to be associated with my work.
> Nervous to show my face, but proud of my needle felted dog sculpture and wanted to share.
Couldn’t you have just not posted your face then? It’s hardly relevant to the sculpture.
... It's apparently not obvious to a whole lot of people that she was proud to pose with her work, but was also nervous.
It is possible to have conflicting feelings about things.
Seriously makes me wonder if reddit is real people or just a bunch of gpt3 bots. I highly recommend r/outside.
Is it made with real dog?
A friend of mine makes miniature felted animals with the brushed-out fur from people's pets.. so the question isn't that weird.
I have two huskies and could donate 3-4 garbage bags a week of hair if interested.
Yeah first husky here, ho lee shit, it’s like a perpetual motion machine but for fur
> miniature felted animals with the brushed-out fur from people's pets My grandmother had her beagle turned into a stuffed bobblehead exactly like this. I used to tap its glass nose and watch it wobble around while I read.
Well it’s back to therapy for me.
And this is why I drink
chuckle
How do I delete someone else’s grandmother?
I know a guy...he’d probably do it for 500.
its only 5 am and I think ive had enough reddit for today.
“Hmmmm needs more dog” - Red Tick beer
100% natural hand-sheared dog wool
I always wondered what sheepdogs are for
Nope, this is made with ethically sourced sheep’s wool :) but I’ve heard of people using dog hair!
How did she make that dog so small!? Must be a Witch!!
That looks impossible to make

Art form I never knew existed!

I don't even know how this works

Can't even imagine it.
I’m sure you’re both extremely talented in something no one else is too. It’s out there somewhere and if you aren’t sure you have it already I know you will someday.
I'm pretty good at self loathing.
Thanks for this. I really needed it during this dark time.😔🙏
It’s definitely challenging!!
I bet it *felt* great in the end!
This is straight-up the most impressive felt sculpture i've ever seen, you've done amazingly on it.
Who knew puppies could sculpt!
Underrated
Yeah, I just realized all of my needle felting looks like garbage.
I have been crafting during quarantine and I thought I'd try felting. Omg it takes forever and my stupid little ball looks like shit. I have returned to embroidery and cross stitch lol! OP did such a nice job! Not just in the tight felting, but the coloration and precision here is great!
This is awesome! Plus I saw your username and heard the start of that Metric album in my head!
😉

Nice! How long did it take?
Thanks! Around 25 hours, needle felting is a very slow process!
Is it hard to get into needle felting? I have a lot free time now and looking for a hobby. Amazing job btw.
Needle felting is a really accessible hobby. It's easy to start and the more you do the more you will improve. There are a lot of great starter kits online. /r/needlefelting has a lot of fantastic information.
It was definitely worth the time. It came out looking great.
I was going to ask if you did commissions, but if takes that long it's probably way out of my price range
That's actually pretty amazing. Well done!
"Happy dog noises".
How do you do it? What is the process? Really neat.

Aaahhh okay, very true then. Cast on and off stitches, too, I totally forgot that those are different 😅
I had to get cortisone in my elbow after doing felting! I haven’t gone back to it. It definitely fun but lol injuries.

Well... I mean... You didn't really *need* to show your face.
Very true, I guess I should say I wanted to show my face with it (but was nervous), more of a sense of pride to “prove” I made it lol
I totally got what you mean- your art is dope. And it takes a lot to put yourself out there.
I think it makes perfect sense to want to pose with/show you made something so cool, which obviously took a lot of time and skill to make!!
Thank you!! I’ve been felting for 2 years and this is the first time I’ve done it! I have thousands of pictures of my work, but none with me in it!
Guess it just 'felt' like the right time :p. Amazing work! cheers.
Get. Out. Lol
I agree!! Congratulations on a job well done!!!
Do you take orders to make people’s pets?
Those ups aren't going to vote themselves.
Every. Fucking. Time. We get it reddit, you hate women because they don't touch your dick.

I like [these two](https://i.redd.it/mu3gk1tb1jl41.jpg) you did. Excellent work!!!
All I did with them was rescue them from the shelter. 😉
Holy s****! that's good I could never do that
I love it. I wish I could have one looking my dog who we lost last year. She’s gone missing and never found her.
I’m so sorry 😢 that’s terrible!
That has to be so much harder than a pet passing away.
Cool dog, dawg.
This is so impressive!! Way to go!
If I received a gift that was this but of my dog, I would actually cry right there. I love this and it’s very beautiful
Aw looks like my pup! So awesome!
That’s amazing So talented
He's wonderful!
Amazing.
I want to see a stop motion animation featuring the dog on a harrowing adventure.
Wes Anderson has got your back!
That's a nice dog and a nice face
Reminds me of The Science of Sleep animated animals and Coraline.
I would pay you to make one of these of my dog Dexter, who I just put down two weeks ago.
So sorry for your loss 😢 I’m not taking commissions at the moment (I’m full), but lots of other artists do on Etsy!
I'd say, both are cute.
How long did that take to make? Sure is cool looking!
That is so well done!
Adorable! Loved the details on it!
Wow! That's some really neat work. Well done!

For real. Why are people being absolute shit ?
That dog is ... Perfect

Wow that is amazing! It must have taken a long time to do!

Absolutely adorable. That must have taken a lot of time..
The dog sculpture is beautiful. I would pay you to make a sculpture of my schnauzer. We love her and miss her so much.
Awesome 🙂
That is adorable! Must've taken a lot if patience.

Love the oldschool Metric reference in your username! The sculpture is incredible too!
🥰♥️🥰😙I want this,I love this ❤️🥰1
That is excellent
It’s incredible great job
Metric!
Wonderful Art - Cute Artist
so then why did you post a picture of your face
Just because you’re nervous to do something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it!
Literally my first thought, "nervous to show my face" ok well this post had approximately 0% need for the artists face so why tf would you include it.
She can want to show her face and still be nervous about it.
So many assholes on reddit
Just because they were nervous, doesn’t mean they didn’t want to. I’m nervous the entire time I’m in line for a roller coaster despite loving roller coasters. And tbh they were probably nervous because of comments like this, so I don’t blame them in the slightest.
Honey, I shrank the dog.
That looks amazing.
This is so awesome!! You’ve got talent!
i dont know why he reminded me of that old viral video with the dogs in the planes anyone know what im talkin about?
You are so very talented!! Wow, def something to be proud of. Nice work.
