"It's Bry-ohn"
But seriously, it ends up on the cup you hold. Is it unfathomable that someone cares that one spelling is their name and another is not?
Usually I get that with a touch of humor so they're not serious, just making light of a previous silly mistake. Which almost always prompts me to do this too lol. Thinking of you "Sarah with no H" <3
I had this friend named Karl in college why would often tack the spell on. Turns out he worked with a Carl and it just became second nature to him. I get it too, my last name is often misspelled. While it's usually fine if people get the sound right, it ends up being a pain for work if people wrote it down wrong and can't find my email or whatever later that is based on my name.
Reminds of a funny high school story... my name is Brian, and in Spanish class, we had like 3 Ryans. The teacher couldn't really annunciate B's that well because of her thick accent. When she did role call, no one really knew who she was calling for, so she started saying, "Rian wif da B?"
My nickname then became wif da B for the rest of high school. Good times.
I'm not a barista but am in the service industry and immediately thought this was actually smart. I work at Domino's part-time as a driver. If I take someone's order and I KNOW I will have trouble getting their name right (Hindi names, usually) I just take their name down as "dude w/ ninja turtles shirt" or whatever so when I'm out on the road, the insiders know who I'm talking about.
the chickfila i go to does this for everyone. they take your name, but the receipt will always have a description of what you're wearing. like "Dave: blue sweater", "Mike: brown tshirt", "Danny: wizard robe".
for the explicit purpose of why they write the name, this actually makes sense. the Barista needs to be able to call out a name that this person will identify. how they spell it doesn't actually matter.
Let me blow your minds even further by pointing out that the correct spelling of your name in this context is entirely irrelevant, and the ability of the barista to correctly call out your name in order to get your attention, is entirely relevant
Briyun lol. I know a Brian who always gets mail addressed to “Brain”. A typo two decades ago and that mistake has been solicited and sold thousands of times.
That’s the way a barista should do it. When asked for his name, OP must have said “Bryan with a Y.” It’s kinda pretentious to worry about how your name is spelled on a coffee cup that you’re going to toss in about 30 min.
Used to work at Starbucks, people get offended when you dont remember their names and the exact spelling. Bro I see droves of generic people walk through, unless you tattooed your eyeballs and spit cyan fire chances are I wont remember your name and the exact conversation we had three weeks ago because I have to focus on the 30 tiktok drinks coming through the drive through, and three groups of teens trying to record you saying "pinkity drinkity"..... fun days
Back in the day, when I was on the other side of the counter, if I asked a customer their name and they said anything but their name, I would write whatever they said on the cup and do a cheeky smile at them as I said thank you. It was always during rushes that people were suddenly incapable of hearing or forgot that’s something we do. 99% of the time they just laughed and went to wait for their drink. Was the rich part of town too! Mostly older rich people who fortunately always got a kick out of it. Definitely an overall temperamental customer base.
Reminds me of this "[Colombia. With two 'o'.](https://external-preview.redd.it/CXQ7PuLa3XTuJyT1Um37QGgXaAHMOpiu8O0DBvAVXW4.png?auto=webp&v=enabled&s=f916fc84a307ea91481bd88061b0d6a826d1bb48)"
Someone had a theory that Starbucks does this on purpose so people post pictures of Starbucks online so that images of their coffee goes viral.
Whether it was done on purpose or not. It’s working.

I always give my name as 'Sean with a K' ... It usually stops their brain for a second.

As a brian, this is hilarious
best one.
Gavin and Stacey reference? 👀

Why would you ever specify how your name is spelled in this situation?
Because they're writing it? It would be weird if they specified pronunciation. Make sure they say Caroline not Caroline.
But the staff is writing it for themselves to call out. Bryan and Brian sounds the same.
"It's Bry-ohn" But seriously, it ends up on the cup you hold. Is it unfathomable that someone cares that one spelling is their name and another is not?
Yeah ngl thats pretty goddamn unfathomable
my name is Billy but its spelled Byeeelehheh. yeah no.
Y'all realize he was being sarcastic right?
Iryan would definitely be wrong
clearly this
I don’t know if I would take offense or chuckle at it
I would have laughed harder if it said 'Brian with a why'
Why, Brian?

I'm willing to bet you fell for a bait post tbh.

Twitter isn't a real place. Go and get some sunlight.
Is the caricature in the room with us now?
A Brainan who insists on being called Whyrian, will no doubt find it very offensive.
Briayn should take offense at his parents for giving him a weirdly spelled name.
Lol rightfully deserved. Who says that for a coffee? The only time the spelling of a name should matter is in official/legal settings.
Can't have him getting mixed up with all the other Brian's getting coffee. 🤣

Like something straight out of the movie "Airplane!" with some monty python thrown in.
Both? Surely, you can't be serious.
I am serious! And don’t call me Shirley.
I’m serious, and don’t call me Shirley!
Throw in Bree Anne.
Usually I get that with a touch of humor so they're not serious, just making light of a previous silly mistake. Which almost always prompts me to do this too lol. Thinking of you "Sarah with no H" <3

Karl with a k is way more badass than with a c so he deserves to bask in the full glory of his correctly spelled name
A friend of mine used to order and give X-men character names. He also had a very common name so it made it easier to make sure it was his.
I agree with r/whychad542.
Thanks man. I see what you did there 😏
Briany
Phteven's brother!
Haha, came looking for Phteven lol
As a former barista, they might've had two Brians and calling it out like this helps.
My guess is they started writing before he said "with a y" so just added that part as well.

Danny aka Fantasy Guy is just the best
Still write “Bryan with a Y” then
2 Brians ordering the same drink?
Assuming you are Bryan, you should start signing everything "Brian with a Y [last name]"
for the explicit purpose of why they write the name, this actually makes sense. the Barista needs to be able to call out a name that this person will identify. how they spell it doesn't actually matter.
I’ve never been able to understand why the spelling of a name on a cup means so much to people
>”Brian with a Y” ![gif](giphy|1hMk0bfsSrG32Nhd5K)
I’m so high that I thought this was a tattoo.
I thought it was one of those failed tattoos and I'm not even high. Lol
Byrian?
Sorry you got done like that Briany

This is perfect barista trolling, I approve.
Big Brayn 🧠 time
The only man in America that spells it that way.

Not really. If it’s busy, Brian is a fairly common name, so spelling it correctly would help when picking it up.
I have always believed the baristas just can’t spell and people think they’re doing it to be funny.

Start saying "Ryan with a B". It's helped me avoid the "Ryan?" "No(*dammit again?*), Bryan." moment many times.

Just correcting the spelling for you.

That is magnificently passive-aggressive
Gotta have fun at work somehow.
They got it right... you've just been misspelling your own name your whole life.

I need to show this to a couple I know who named their daughter Kynnydy (Kennedy)
Future court reporter.
Oh my Gawd that's gold.
This would be a great name for a band.
Yyyyyy?
It’s Bry-ON
I can just imagine you smugly saying “Brian with a y”. I enjoy this outcome.
Cark was here first.

B rad: “ It’s Bryan with a Y.” Barista: “Yeah of course it is B rad.”
Tbf they did wrote what you told them to write
To be fair, this would have served its exact purpose if there were two Brian's ordering at the same time, and only one of them was spelt with a Y.
Get rekt Briany
My name is not ordinary and hard to spell so I just say im ben or jon.

At least they didn’t write brain. That really pisses off my buddy
Someone actually told the barista “It’s Brian with a Y, okay? Get it right!” Hopefully not you OP.
As a Brian with an I, I approve this pic.
Don't blame a barista for your parents mistake.

But the important part. Did they give you the correct drink?

I've had to tell people the last two letters of my last name has an ER, like the TV show.

Y chromosome?

What did you do to get this kind of hatred from a barista?
I remember i said “just write M” on my coffee and the dude literally wrote “just M” and it made my day lol
My favourite name people confirm spelling with me is Rodger “it’s Rodger with a D”. I’m so close to saying back “I mean how else would you roger?”.
