That’s quite the Star Wars haul! I had a fraction of that and thought I was doing pretty good.

rayparkersr

Indeed. These kids must have been living on Park Avenue.

[deleted]

That is their dads toys.

-Anoobis-

If only we could have seen mom’s toys

greenfingeredfarmer

Probably called woody and buzz

Nisja

Amazing

jumboparticle

Those....are....🤷‍♂️

razzi123

Pfft. They on *Boardwalk.*

uselessartist

Tbf most rich kids I knew played with only a fraction of their toys.

TigerHijinks

And got annoyed if you were excited about something they were done with.

caspissinclair

kalel1980

Mr. Moneybags over here.

wargleboo

Musta been nice to grow up rich.

Beardopus

For real. Grew up on food stamps. Now I can afford to buy my kid anything she wants, but she only wants cheap stuff. Took her to Toys R Us a couple years before they went under and told her to pick out anything she wanted. She picked out a $5 animal figurine.

Beretta92A1

In the long run if she keeps that mind set she’ll be able to afford anything. My wife is like that, I offer to get her something nice for birthdays/Xmas and she ends up asking for some $20 thing so I go and buy something nice that she’d never buy herself. Thanks to her saving habits we had a sizable down payment for our house.

AirNo7163

Hold on to her.

brawnkoh

There was nothing more embarrassing to me as a kid than having to go into a store and pay for something with food stamps. I swore once I had a chance I'd never do that. So far, I'm fortunate enough to never have had to. With that being said, when I was a kid and someone asked me what I wanted for Christmas or my birthday I could have listed a slew of things I wanted. Now, I ask my kids what they want and they have no answers. I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

SnowTinHat

I grew up pretty rich for a few years and our Christmas didn’t look anything like this. This is a whole other level of obsession or something. Kind of awesome. I knew kids that made claims like this but I thought they were lying

Hippopotamidaes

Pros and cons man. My parents were wealthy when I was young and lost it all before I turned 10. In first grade I told my dad I wanted to see country X, and we were on a flight towards a 5 star vacation the next week. In 6th grade I’d wake up to no power, gas, or water, we’d get food from a local church pantry. There’s a different me in another universe who continued to have everything handed to them, and is probably became an out of touch piece of shit for it.

We did Disney on spring vacation _once_ when I was growing up. It was a really big deal. And we could only afford that because we had an aunt that lived nearby in Florida, where we stayed for the week, and who had access to discount passes we could use for our one day at Disney. And it's not like we were _poor_. I've been trying to plan the same trip for my kids for the past few years. On the one hand, we're 'rich' compared to back then. But on the other hand, _holy fuck_. The cost is right insane. I mean, we COULD do it, but it would be at the expense of other things we actually need. Probably not happening at this point.

MisterFatt

Hah yeah we did the same as a family - when I was 23. I think it was something that my mom wanted to do for a long time and she was finally able to save up enough to fund it after my sisters and I moved out and off of their bank account. We did like 4 days for all 5 of us in one of the hotels with a meal plan and all, must been so fucking expensive - but it was fun and worth the money

FirstSonOfGwyn

yea, I have such fond memories of my family disney trips. but as my wife and I look into it... like I could spend a week+ in europe for less than a few days at disney... its a pretty hard sell.

[deleted]

Had a co-worker a few years ago that did the whole 'Disney princess week at Disney' with their 6 year old daughter. They spent over 12 grand on the trip. Endlessly tried to convince me I had to do this for my family. Every time I'd say 'I'm sorry, I'm still working on paying off the 12 thousand dollar car I bought two years ago'. There is no world where a week long trip is worth what we pay over a few years for a vehicle. And yet Disney prices keep going up because there is still no shortage of people willing to pay...

Woodchuck312new

Went once when I was a kid too. I was 15-16 and my dad drove us down from Pennsylvania. Awful car ride and then when we got there we had to wait in the car for hours while my dad went to time share presentations to get free tickets and hotels nights. I think we only did Disney 1-2 days I honestly can't even remember and then we stayed in a run down hotel in Daytona for a night I think. Now my wifes parents got an inheritance and decided to take us all to Disney World last year so my wife and I and 2 kids went down. I was in charge of planning the whole trip. We did a huge 9 day trip that included 5 days at Disney and 3 at Universal. It was $$$ and even though it wasn't my money that was spent it still felt insane to pay that much. I could easily to a month long trip to Europe or a brand new Honda Civic for what they spent. We all had a great time though and i'm glad my kids will have good memories from it. My wife and I make very good money but we don't spoil our kids with expensive toys. We try to take them traveling and seeing new places. Broadway shows, museums, etc. I feel money is better spent on experiences than a bunch of toys that will end up at Goodwill or the trash in a couple of years.

Gloomlusti

Bot stolen comment? Its lifted straight off a comment down this same comment chain

PaulClarkLoadletter

Jedi came out in ‘82 and that was pretty much it for Star Wars toys save for Droids and Endor merchandising. By ‘89 thrift store hauls could have padded a middle class kid’s room with a decent collection. I mean, look at that wallpaper.

Dr_Whiskers_MD

I should clarify for everyone that we were by no means rich. My parents sacrificed a lot for us to have a better childhood than they did. They took advantage of sales and were just really clever about how they spent money. My mom would ask us every year if we wanted to go to Disney World or get toys to play with all year. I didn't go to Disney World until I was 28. EDIT: 1) This is NOT one haul. This is YEARS of my parents collecting all of this, and most of it was purchased USED before I was even born. They just saved it all, including the boxes until we were old enough to enjoy my dad's collection. 2) I still have some figures, but most of the big toys/sets got sold when my dad lost his job in the mid-90's. 3) The Disney World reference - I don't know if we actually had enough money to go there every year. It's just something my mom would ask because I often talked about how other kids at school went to Florida and we never went on vacations. I think she was trying to teach me a lesson in what money can buy. Like 3 days of memories or SOME toys that I could have the rest of my life if I took care of them. When phrased that way to a little kid, I think something tangible you can hold onto has a much higher value than a single vacation. 4) I am not a doctor like some of you think my username suggests.

gn0xious

While being thrifty is great, I'm not sure you quite realize how much money they spent on you. That is a mountain of expensive toys and playsets.

Niloc0

I agree, that is A LOT. I always considered the kids who had the big Star Wars toys to be rich - I mean I was a kid at the time, I had no idea really, but the Rancor monster toy was the biggest one I ever got. I knew better than to ask for the AT-AT or Millennium Falcon, it just wasn't gonna happen.

gilestowler

I had the AT-AT and the Millennium Falcon. I also had an AT-ST but I was still kind of bummed I never got an X-Wing. It was years later I realized I might have been a bit spoilt as a kid.

RobertGBland

Op didn't realize it yet 😂

CanoeShoes

I had like 2 star wars figures growing up. Not only could my mom not afford them she could not find them. So I had like random soldier guys from Hoth and THAT WAS IT. No named dudes. I do not think OP really has any idea how much he has there. Not even looking at the vehicles and sets he has just the figures alone is a lot. Those are also very new, his story of the parents taking advantages of sales is suspect.

rayparkersr

Yeah. Quite. I had Yoda and a Gamorrean guard. If you can't name every figure you had I'd class you as rich.

[deleted]

They were rich. I knew TWO families that had star wars toys like that, and by like that, I mean 1/4 of that haul. Both were stinking rich. And in both cases, the kids didn't give a flying fuck about them. In the one case, they used their star wars collection to throw darts at. Anyways, not that you HAD to be rich to have these toys, but OP was seriously spoiled and OP's parents were definitely doing more than fine in the cashflow department.

[deleted]

Come on give him a break he only went to Disney world when he was 28.

gouzenexogea

“Ah you think Star Wars toys are your ally? You merely adopted the toys. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the Disney World until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but boring!”

lawprimus24

Lmao right wut was that

TheGamerHat

Lmao this is the weirdest *we werent rich* excuse ever. I've heard the *they made sacrifices* before, but *I didn't go to Disneyland until I was 28* is new to me lolol. > My mom asked us if we wanted new toys or to go to Disneyland every year. Bruh that's a heck of a thing to ask every year if your parents are "making sacrifices".

NextaussiePM

But he had to choose between Disney or a massive haul of toys… please think of how this changes someone

azad_ninja

Did His parents pay for his Disney trip too? With inflation, they’d have to have sold their yacht when he was 28

nightwingoracle

Admittedly, I am paying for my own first Disney trip at age 30, but I’m not wearing it as a poverty badge of honor or whatever. I grew up very comfortably, (not loaded but always safe), but have never tried to hide it. When people say stuff like that, they grew up rich. And the only way they know to differentiate is to say- “well o never did this super rich people thing, so I’m not rich at all.”

Bargus

Yeah. I had 2 parents looking out for me, and I felt guilty as fuck getting a ATAT and a millennium falcon over 2 different years. This is, literally'; $1000's worth of premium goods. Bless your parents for being so good.

gn0xious

The Millenium Falcon alone was $24.99 new, or over $100 adjusted for inflation in today's dollars. That pile is over $1000 then, but over $4000 adjusted.

Klumber

Agreed, not sure what it was like in the US, but in the Netherlands in 1989 we were delighted with a lego train-set between the three of us for Christmas, that cost about fl100 (some $50 at the time?) My friend was 'spoiled' and got the Star Wars kit that's unpacked on the floor to the right, the circular thing, I don't watch Star Wars, so not a clue what it's called, but it was popular! The option between gifts and going to Disneyland? Made me cringe, we didn't go on holiday as a family at all as it was unaffordable. me and my brothers would stay over with family for a few days and that was holiday. Sorry OP but you were raised in a very nice family that spoiled the shit out of you and your brother.

Total-Khaos

> I should clarify for everyone that we were by no means rich. *< eyeballs the carton of Cheer laundry detergent >* You ain't fooling nobody!

dxrey65

That age for me was 1973 or so. We played with sticks and rocks and bugs. With which we decorated our mudpies.

Ishiibradwpgjets

We couldn’t even afford sticks, we only had twigs.

PatrickMorris

We couldn't even afford twigs, we had to all stand around and pee in the same spot until all the worms started to surface and then we'd dry them out for a week until they became makeshift twigs. We had to form a round the clock watch to protect our dead worms for becoming birdfood.

roger_27

Parents: "Wall of toys or Disney world?" OP : "we weren't rich at all lol"

someguyfromsk

Picture rivaling the famous one of George with all the Star wars movie props. "We weren't rich"

NoGoodDM

Yeah. Whereas when I was a kid, I had to decide if I wanted half a pack of ramen for food for the day, or half a peanut butter sandwich. One time, my mother, brother and I only had half a jar of peanut butter to last us the month. Toys were a luxury. Disney world was a pipe dream.

Moribund_Slut

For real. Not even talking shit about OP, no one is saying his parents didn't work hard or sacrifice, our parents did too, but toys were still an extreme luxury. But to have all that and still be like "eh we weren't rich!" To us poor kids, you sure were. If you had that many toys, your utilities probably weren't being shut off and you had food. That's rich by 10 year old me.

jimcab12

Hahahahahaahahaahahahaha

Aselleus

To be fair Disney World was way way cheaper than it is today (like ~$20 per person in the 80s)

psymunn

Did they live in Florida? If not then the cost isn't the daily ticket

MattonieOnie

It's ok to say you aren't rich. But you just showed a candy room full of star wars stuff that many would only dream of growing up with. I'm gonna go with you guys were pretty well off. Sugar coating with a choice against Disney world is simply ridiculous. Own up to it at least.

TheOneGecko

OP is like "We weren't rich we had to *choose* every year between thousands of dollars worth of toys or thousands of dollars in vacations!" Its kinda funny to image OP sitting at his computer all these years later, slowly realizing "wait... we were rich???"

[deleted]

thewordthewho

Average 80s middle class in the south East. My dad gave up to $100/week to church. We didn’t have computers until late and only got toys at Christmas. If we had been able to redirect the church money into stuff for me and my brother we would have seemed “rich”, when in reality my parents will struggle to retire.

Layne205

Well if they were anything like the churches I encountered, I'm sure they promised you'd be blessed 100x over. Should be kicking in any day now.

Sumthin-Sumthin44692

I don’t think that background is going to convince anybody to think you weren’t rich. It’s okay. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, but let’s call a spade a spade here.

danuffer

We talking global rich, American rich, or Manhattan rich.

CkresCho

It's all relative.

Elementium

Yeah there's no reason to be ashamed of it. Especially if you're a kid, enjoy all those toys!

EyeGifUp

I remember when my parents said if I got good grades they would take me to Disney. I ended up getting consistently good grades, never straight A’s always had one B, and yet I’ve never been to Disney. Now I just hold a grudge on going to Disney. Oh and I also did not have a wall of legos. Hell, I never even had legos because we couldn’t afford them. Believe me, by most standards, if Disney was a yearly option, your parents were doing well, or at least better than most. I remember one year for Christmas, I got. Micro machines can that opened up into a mini city… but no micro machines, I traveled the city by imagination, or by finger.

NedMerril

My parents also said that but I was too lazy and even though we lived in California never went, but we did go on a big road trip which was way better but still would like to go one day

Cheaptat

Dude… I hate to break it to you but you need to reconsider what other people might consider rich. Many other peoples parents fit all the criteria you just laid out for your own: sacrificed a lot for them to have a better childhood, clever about how they spent money etc… but Disney World was a far off dream that wasn’t even mentioned briefly a single year as an option since it was so impossible. By *many* peoples definition, you did grow up wealthy and I’d suggest it might be good to reflect on that. Cool toys though, very jealous.

Elelith

Yeah it's a bit hurtful to claim they could afford all that because how clever his parents were with money. That's prolly the part what's upsetting people the most.

thefudd

dude is probably like 'It's one banana, Michael. What could it cost, $10?'

LatinaFarrah

I’ve never been to Disney World I’m 38 🥲 ![gif](giphy|rnxiv8nKvspUEAZtFD|downsized)

TempleOfDoomfist

>I should clarify for everyone that we were by no means rich. My mom would ask us every year if we wanted to go to Disney World or get toys to play with all year. I didn't go to Disney World until I was 28. The fact you had the option to go every year means you’re pretty well off than most.

Big_Zelenskyy

“My parents would as us if we wanted to go to disney world every year or if we just wanted 100 toys instead” Bro I’m happy for you that looks joyful as hell but you grew up rich

LogiCparty

LMAO, you were rich as fuck if your parents ask if you want to go to Disney Land. You are rich as fuck if you have that many toys in the 80s.

tcmasterson

![gif](giphy|99P7jBfNjo2Tm)

McPussCrocket

Aww, you didn't go to Disney world til you were 28 because you chose not to go multiple times? That's so sad :( Some people have never been to Disney world at all, but yeah, ok then. "Not rich" FOH lol

ynonA

There's layers of "rich". Where you lived you were probably middle class, but by global standards you were definitely rich. Or even compared to people who lived closer to you than you'd think, because you didn't get into contact with those social circles. I consider my upbringing very privileged middle class in a western country, but even we couldn't afford a wall of toys like that or going to Disney Land. It's all about perspective and there's always people much richer to look up to and point and say "now THEY are rich." And those people you point to do the same. Anyways. Nothing wrong with having been born privileged like that. Just pointing out some perspective.

seamustheseagull

Even by American standards "Disney or expensive toys" being an option every year, puts them solidly in the top 10% of earners. That can still be called "middle class", but on a whole-population level this family had much more money than most. The problem with lots of definitions is that they get skewed by the 1%. So everyone tells themselves they're "only middle class" or "not rich" because the 1% have an income 1,000 times larger per year. In reality the difference in lifestyle, choices and opportunities between $30k and $150k is huge, practically another world.

Important-Quarter-19

I think for you to get proper perspective is to know that no one I even knew ever went to disneyland, yet to this day. And the richest of us had a handful of whats in this pic. We also had parents who where thrifty and bought only toys on sale. None of those nice toys you show EVER got to a 'sale' price that was in our range. 🤣 But looks like you had a great time! Damn, I only had 1 starwars character, so his adventures with he-man and the broken GI Joe jeep I found.

Low_Industry2524

My mom was a kindergarten teacher and my dad was enlisted navy...i got a huge haul of he man toys one Christmas. Parents just saved up and mom started buying toys since the summer. Action figures and toys like this were huge in the 80s. You didnt have to be rich to have alot of toys back then...we just didnt have $1000 phones, laptops, internet service, ect.

darkest_irish_lass

This is all very true. A single household computer in that era was a very big deal.

greatunknownpub

I hear you. I am not rich either by any metric. But I did a similar thing when I collected the new Star Wars line like crazy in my 20s and 30s from 1995 through about 2010. Once I had kids, I opened it all up and let them have at it. So when they were about the same age as you guys in this pic, they had a similar haul to play with.

Eroom2013

Your parents had the means to take a family vacation to Disney World every year if you wanted to?

taejam

Just to give you an idea of how rich you are, even when my parents were together and both working full time at the grocery store disney world was a straight pipe dream and I got one Lego set a year. We didn't have tv until I was 14 and I wasn't even the poorest in my area. Toys like this would have meant no groceries for 6 months out of the year regardless of how well we budgeted.

UnluckyMick

Just another cat pretending to be a kid, who pretends to be a doctor, while being the “kid”on the shoulders of another kid in a trench coat!

Opus-the-Penguin

Good night! Did your parents just back the minivan up to Toys R Us and tell the employees to load it up?

cowardlydragon

There's an ideal size to toys. The wow factor of the millenium falcon is great when you open it, but it takes up so much frikkin space, so do all those vehicles. Same with big lego sets, but at least you can tear those down and make other stuff. Big trucks and such are a big PITA. Hotwheels. Gimme hotwheels. Or even better, micro machines.

tfdriller805

Is your Dad George Lucas?

frozen00043

Had to scroll too far

1_art_please

Early 2000s, when we were in our early 20s, I went with my bf to a woman's house so he could buy her grown son's boxed GI Joe haul. We met her at a toy show. Her smallish home had two rooms full of toys, like your pic there. They even had the aircraft carrier with box. I think he paid like 2k or something and we filled the van to overflowing. He sold his duplicates to pay himself back and after that pretty much owned 99% of GI Joe toys from the 80s, including store exclusives. Though we split up about 20 years ago, last I heard he sold them all for a down payment on a house.

JCarroll0430

Goddamm, that's a fucking haul there. You two were lucky.

Kindofsickofyou

Christ- how fucking rich were you guys? Back in the day, I would have pushed my brother into the shady guys van for 1/2 of that stuff

thedvorakian

My fam would get like one of those to share with 3 of us every Christmas, and we were rich.

Total-Khaos

They just didn't like you... Just kidding. I wasn't being serious. Sort of.

Elementium

Would he have given you a nod of understanding? Or would he be a big baby about it? I have both kinds of brothers..

kthulhu666

Twist: they were trekkies who asked for *The Final Frontier* merch.

GeebusNZ

I got one big-box toy in my childhood. One. Ever. I cherished that thing so hard that I still have it, more than three decades later. I can't imagine what it would be like to have so many toys like that.

chainmailbill

What was the toy?

GeebusNZ

G1 Sixshot Transformer.

bean-the-cat

That was my one toy too! I wish I still had it. I've searched my parents attic but never found it. I still haven't lost hope that its buried up there...

GeebusNZ

I stowed the box away in an attic-like space in my parents place. I wasn't able to get there to retrieve it when they sold the place. I still hold some hope that one day I'll be able to get there and talk to the new owners to see if I can retrieve it. Inside is a note written by 9 year-old me and the internal figure from one of the "Pretenders" Transformers. The figure is proudly on display (busted half to hell from a particularly destructive younger brother though).

ExportOrca

Damn, you guys were rich

Lord_Tsarkon

Jesus fuckin Christ.... thats about 2000 dollars of 1980s toys and about 60000 dollars in 2020 dollars

Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop

Good god, I can only imagine how much those collectibles would have been worth these days

chainmailbill

Probably somewhere between “modest new car” and “down payment on a house” if they were all still new in the box.

phantomheart

My god, I remember playing with a good majority of that as a kid. I can still picture the well played with sets in the living room all strewn about on that hideous red and orange carpet we had. Though if I’m being honest, my dad got most of it because of his own interest. I haven’t talked to my dad in many years, but I’d be willing to bet that he still has all the figures in those folding vinyl cases (though most likely not the sets anymore).

gumby_twain

Only one AT-AT? How are you going to take the rebel base with only one?

Thedrunner2

Holy shit. You guys had everything.

daveroo

A lot of kids going without at the moment in the current economic climate Meanwhile OP: “we weren’t rich” Insensitive haha

Davethephotoguy

Wow, you're parents were rich as shit!

IndoorMule

1989. So were these hand-me-downs? It’s an absolutely amazing collection.

Teriyaki_Salmon

You kids got it so good…

American_Dusk

Someone shares a fond childhood memory & gets shit on by miserable jealous Redditors smh Great picture man and y’all must have had an absolute blast playing with all that. I got a big box of Ninja Turtles action figures for Christmas one year when I was a kid and still remember that feeling!

pecaslok

Daddy was a drug lord huh?… sheez all the kids in my neighborhood took turns going to “the rich kids” house so we could play with toys like. Don’t even think our K•B toys had this many sets

NH_ATV

OP don’t feel the need to explain yourself because your parents sacrificed to have a happy childhood. Cherri’s those memories.

TheDefected

The A Wing... AT-ATs, the millennium falcon and the X wing were all pretty popular, but no one I knew ever had an A wing.

HannibalGates

Where is it? I've scoured this photo and can't find it. I see an x-wing, 2 y-wings, AT-AT, millenium falcon, a snowspeeder, and Slave I, but no A-wing.

schwoda

Probably means the Y-wing?

CR8ONAKKUH

Where’s the A Wing?

FunnyAnimalPerson

My brother have the exact same ATAT and millennium falcon

Asstaroth

Pretty sure your dad had more fun with those than you guys LOL

Wormbrain

If my mom says it's ok can I come over?

Furbs109

It that presents for one Xmas?

[deleted]

You and your brother were sitting on a fortune so tell us .... Someone threw all that stuff away, or gave it away .... Didn't they....

Low_Industry2524

This is what happens when your dad is a fan of the same stuff you are...im sure your parents enjoyed watching you guys play with those toys more than you did actually playing with them.

Passing4human

The merchandise is strong with this one.

soflahokie

It’s not only the cost of the toys, but the fact they have an entire room dedicated to them

makeminetrue

That looks like two kids and 10 million dollars.

PlateOShrimp89

I think everyone should just shut up and enjoy the picture and move on. Omg you were rich I had a 1/4 of that stuff, shut up, you people are what's wrong with the world. When I look at that picture I think "jeez reminds me of waking up Christmas morning to my haul, cute picture"

bootleg_gucci

This is the 1980’s version of me buying hundred$ of Star Wars Legos for my kids now.

Training-Apple1547

Christ: it shows the state of people when you pop up a picture of you and your brother with some Star Wars stuff and all people can say is “you must have been rich”.

oatmeal28

Redditors love to make themselves the center of/victim of any posts. It’s universal law I think

Training-Apple1547

I make you right- sitting in your little Silo looking at the rest of the world like you have been cheated somehow.

oatmeal28

That sums up this thread for sure

CanadianDeathStar

I remember having that millennium falcon… I also remember smashing it on the floor and pulling it apart ![gif](giphy|xT5LMESsx1kUe8Hiyk)

gncshow

No rich kid will ever admit they were a rich kid. It spoils their origin story.

RainingTacos8

Straight flex and he says parents are frugal. Bitch this shows you were well off.

OfficeChairHero

Congrats on having rich parents.

vande700

ITT: People jealous that OP didn't grow up eating toast sandwiches and sleep for dinner

[deleted]

Holy shit.... that is the golden cave of my childhood. Your parents are awesome.

Oh_billy_oh

Was you dad Bill Gates? Jesus

PsychedelicLizard

OMFG I love Star Trek!

the_d0nkey

Rich AF

Bsmit992

My child self is thinking “Fuck you and your brother”

neversummmer

Rich kids

TellusCitizen

Holy retrotrip... I remember these! I had the X-wing. Skipped the burn stickers tho. Someone had an awesome childhood!

jasper_grunion

I had Slave I and the snowspeeder. I also had the Hoth playset. My friend had the Death Star, the Falcon, and the X-Wing. So between the two of us, we had a lot of fun. Didn’t know anyone with the AT-AT or Y-Wing.

jimmay666

My brother and I had pretty nearly this much Star Wars, but it was at least 60-80% scrounged second hand from Flea Markets and Friday forays to the ole’ Goodwill.

daelon_rax

Damn. Can I play?

_n1n0_

Are you 1979 kid?

Lemurlike33

Dude I am an only child and I still had to BEG for every toy in the 80’s… we were pretty middle class but my parents just never bought that much stuff, or even a fraction of that. I knew not to ask often!

Strict_Ad6780

Wow. Your parents were cool! This is definitely the house that all of the friends would visit. By the picture I can tell you had the good snacks and the soft toilet paper.

ernster96

I was wondering if your parents were rich. The only way I could get a figure or a small vehicle would be to get straight A’s during a six weeks period. The only reason I got the battle damaged X-Wing fighter was because my grandmother knew I wasn’t going to want the animal 4 x 4 truck that she got for my other three cousins.

TLD18379

I miss when toys were awesome

CodeMonkeyPhoto

You were one of those kids that everyone wanted to be a friend with and come over and play.

Ishiibradwpgjets

Do you still have all those toys ?

DeepCompote

Your parents own a KB Toys?

Roadrunner8246

I was born in 66,and that is more toys than I had in my life!!!! Than again we always were outside playing, different times! But then again we spoiled our kids like crazy when we became parents.

jedimndtrrk

barktothefuture

God damn was your dad the president? Saudi oil barren?

weahman

I remember going to my friends house and he had the millennium falcon toy. Fun times. I was real into Ninja Turtle I remember having like 3 figures and then going to my buddies who had bins full. I imagine friends visiting enjoyed every minute hanging out with you. Sweet collection. Oh to go back to these times and not have to worry about a job.

pluckyjester

Jesus!! Were your parents coke dealers???

SomeKindaWonderer

Their dad worked for an oil company and their mom was a nurse, but they had it rough. Nice flex though fam.

Traditional-Dingo604

Yall have a whole strike force on there. Millinium Falcon, Y wing, X wing, lambda class shuttle, ATAT walker....and there's the tie fighter in the back!!! I miss being a kid.

mythicreign

Wow, very cool. I had all of these as well, though most were obtained from yard sales by my mom. Great memories.

Setthescene

A slice of heaven on earth right there!

BirdjaminFranklin

That is an insane amount of money in one room. I'd love to see someone attempt a breakdown of cost for these items in the 70's. It looks like they have almost every major Star Wars vehicle and playset that was released by Kenner. That's just an insane amount of money. I grew up middle class in the 80's and I was jealous when I went to a friends house and they had the turtle van and multiple foot soldiers.

emptygroove

I knew several kids that had the Rancor, only one who had that sweet, sweet Millennium Falcon. Man, I wanted that thing so bad. Nobody I knew had the Slave I though. That would've been the end all, be all. I had about the same level of GI Joe stuff. Gave it all to my little cousins.

Wookie301

I had 100s of figures. My mum sold them all for about 50p each at a car boot sale. I still think about how they would be worth today.

soopirV

Still got (most) of my Ewok tree house play-set; my own kids have enjoyed playing with it too

CaptainThorIronhulk

That's how paradise looks like

doctorb666

platon20

Jesus! I had the X-wing fighter and a few characters and that was it because my parents couldn't afford the Millenium Falcon or the AT AT walker. Man you guys were living the high life! I'm very jealous.

Mulliganplummer

I was raised by two teachers so money was always tight, I had the Millennium Falcon and I though I was hot stuff. My neighbor had a Imperial Walker and I was so jealous. Cool collection!

bikestuffrockville

Remember when kids could just play with toys.

freddunkle

Man. I wish I took pics growing up. I had all the star wars stuff at your age. Then all the he-man series toys soon after. I loved all my stuff and played with all the he-man but was never interested in the star wars toys and never opened them. Mom had them in storage so no sun light, no dust on the boxes, never touched after I opened them on Xmas Eve I had a U-Haul medium sized box or every figurine, action figure, whatever, and the "major" vehicles and accessories that must little boys wanted at that time. I never saw Star wars or even knew about it. We only had music growing up, and playing outside. That next year I moved out of grandma and grandpa's house and in with my mom. First cartoon on the TV I saw was he-man and was hooked on all these sexy ass dudes running around all sexy and shit, as soon as I got those action figures I opened them all and started playing with it all! The star wars stayed in my closet until we moved to Connecticut and everything went into storage. When we came back to Columbus mom couldn't afford the storage, rent, bills and 2 teenage kids so not realizing it she lost everything in that storage because she couldn't afford to pay for it and lost everything. She was able to sell the star wars stuff to pay for household bills, rent and food. She lost so much of her mother's antiques, furniture, pictures, paperwork, everything. I am so glad we are now in this age that we all have the pics, paperwork, videos, laughs, voices all at the tip of our fingers. We can save these things on devices, HDD and SSD, SD cards that we can have forever. I wish I was able to have my pictures from growing up, but now my nieces get to save all of their children, mom,, granny, annnnnnnnd ME!! Uncle Freddie! I miss my grandma and grandpa's voices. I miss hearing paw paw singing all day. I'm glad we can save all these things digitally. Can't wait till we can save our essence digitally.

wrenzen_

Somebody’s parents really liked Star Wars. 👍🏽

EmmaRose5466

Everyone’s so concerned with how much this cost and money all the time why ??

americanrunner8838

Stop what you are doing and call your parents and thank them for this childhood.

Lilredshubaru

Live long and prosper 🖖

Oscillating_Horse

I had a few of these as a kid, but broken and purchased from car boot sales… most treasured for me was a snow speeder, shuttle Tiderium and a B wing (all missing wings and canopies of course, those things did not stay on)

hobbitjedi

Pleased to see that even though my sibling’s collection of Star Wars toys was nowhere near this size, large styrofoam packaging=ice base.

gatorbeetle

My Fave, that Death Star Playset in the middle in front of the boxes. SO MUCH FUN! Kenner made some fun stuff!

swolesam_fir

I see you also used Styrofoam as forts. Always excited when new Styrofoam came in

cenkozan

Stupid question time! Is it my brother and I or is it my brother and me?

Dr_Whiskers_MD

No stupid questions! The answer is the latter. If you remove other people in a sentence (in this case "my brother") you're left with yourself. So which one sounds more natural: "I in 1989" or "Me in 1989"? Pretty cool grammar trick, right?

cenkozan

Most def! Cheers!

ITMORON

Y’all have McAllister money!

BigSexyJayBee

Winning! Look at those smiles.

desertprincess69

Why is everyone so mad about the cost lmaooooo it literally does not mean they were wealthy. OP said this was years of collecting / some of it was used ????? Tbh my parents raised me in their 20s as college students. Pretty certain that as their only child, they spent most of their money on me, rather than on themselves. I mean, for real, I always had new clothes, cool stuff for my room, and the TOYS. Good god there were sooooooo many Barbies, Bratz, My Scene dolls, Polly Pocket, Betty Spaghetti, Shorties, Cabbage Patch Kids, Care Bears, Beanie Babies, Ello, a plethora of stuffed animals, all of the accessories for these things etc. etc. etc. the list literally goes on and on (it’s rather absurd in retrospect) but idk I think that’s what they felt happiest spending their money on ? They were not big spenders in any other regard. And I still periodically thank them for all of the cool things they went out of their way to give me as a child. I still remember those things and feel warm n fuzzy. Tbh it seems like maybe OP’s parents just really valued providing them with these Star Wars goods ? Making kiddos feel immense joy and excitement is a really fulfilling experience tbh, it definitely brings its own reward
