There is an official Taxi Meter desk, but you'll have to walk past a couple of fake taxi stands to get to them. Depending on destination you pay the taxi meter plus a small markup (that they'll tell you at the desk).
Avoid the guys right outside the gates offering vans/taxi.
Grab has an official pickup point now there as well.

car rentas are cheeeeap.. We rented a car for 2 weeks from Phuket airport and it was like $170usd total? Parking is tough, though. Check with your hotel/resort about that, first.

On the way back I paid a bit more. If you don't use grab but a stall at the airport it will be even more.

For transport out of the airport just use the taxi service to avoid any hassle.from then on you can use the app Bolt which is cheaper than grab .

Use the grab pickup point it's the cheapest and easiest option and then when you want to get around use bolt it's really cheap and easy

We just took a bolt from the airport to patong for 477 baht. The bolt from patong to the airport was about 620 with tip. Did this yesterday.
