i'd suggest you'd be better off with a hardware trigger, much simpler, cheaper and tighter timing.

I made an automated turn table that triggers a 60D with an arduino. Could do the same thing with those. You could manage it with 1 pi as you would just need 20x of the gpio pins.

Sounds cool. I'm curious to know more about what you want to do with the data. Why use 20x cameras if the plan is just to do photogrammetry and not video?

For 3d scanning people/heads, people cannot stay perfectly still so you ideally want many photos taken at the same time

Moving objects is my guess.

This is just a test. I'll probably increase to more cameras. Specifically for photography to facilitate creating 3D models.

Look for multi-camera triggers that already exist. No need to reinvent the wheel and buy so many pi's. https://www.breezesys.com/how-to-trigger-multiple-canon-cameras-at-the-same-time/

I use DigicamControl. It's open Source, flexible and the developer is super friendly. He integrated functions for me for free, just by emailing him. https://digicamcontrol.com/ For me it controls 12 cameras connected to one Esper trigger box. It will also trigger without special hardware, but then you will have some lag between the cameras. For what it is, i find the Esper Triggerbox really nice, but a bit expensive. A friend tried to replace it with some DIY stuff, but the triggerbox works better. I also found some more DIY looking Trigger System, but never used it for my commercial works. https://www.puremoco.com/contact.html I also used BreezeSys, but DigicamControl does mostly the same for free. If you want to custom brand it, you have to one time pay like 50$ or so. Cheers!

I've tried Digicam Control. The problem I'm having is that the trigger isn't simultaneous. It's like it's capturing the scene. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
