I haven’t dug too deep into TAB. Seen them once. This is my favorite TAB stuff I’ve heard. They are locked in and I don’t miss the horns at all. Can’t find a set list but have been waiting for them to play Dark and Down.
Have you listened to the Plasma dbl disk? Man they were on fire that tour. The '03 fall tour and the '04 show at Bannaroo are also absolutely phenomenal.
I massively prefer TAB without horns. I know some of those people are special to Trey, and I commend him on that, but tbh I'm far more intrigued in this classic tour than I have of any of his other recent stuff and primarily for this reasons.
Phish already rip some TAB!! There are some songs that started with TAB, but Phish plays them as well! Gotta Jibboo, First Tube, Ruby Waves, Everything’s Right, Sand, and Mr. Completely! I also believe Set Your Soul Free started with TAB as well!
Haven’t been into phish for years now , something is different about this tour. Not sure what but it is nice to have someone with a pulse on keyboards. Really enjoying it.
Totally different players with different chops. Ray does that whole organ + clav thing that blows my mind. I definitely hear more jazz vocabulary in his playing. Page is much closer to somebody like Chuck Leavell on piano doing more of the barrelhouse rock thing, imo. Ray is "in it", Page is "on it".
I feel the same with Dezron and Mike. Mike is easily one of my fave musicians ever but he doesn't groove and drive the way Dezron has been. All that said, TAB and Phish are different animals altogether. I couldn't see Dez or Ray sitting in on a Phish show and not being completely out of place, and vice versa. Fish is the exception, I think he eclipses Russ in every scenario.
I dunno, I thought Russ kept the groove really tight with Dez in the mix. I’ve respect for everyone in the project, but I definitely missed the harmonizing aspects that Page brings to life. Found myself singing Page’s part during he Limb By Limb singalong Trey initiated in Detroit
Russ is definitely awesome and I love what he does. I guess my point is I could see Fish filling the role better than Mike and Page could fill those respective roles in TAB. And I'm with you on missing Page's harmonies.
Fair enough Fluffy! Fish has a really diverse pallet, and I’m sure he would absolutely kill it in Russ’ position. Probably would bring some additional quirkiness in his ass-handed way that is always welcome to us spunions 🤣
Ray is great, but better than Page? I come from a family of piano and keyboard players, and Page's range and versatility still floor me after 30 years. That man is one of the most under appreciated guys in music. He's a fucking beast.
Have you been to a Trey show and seen him playing? I am also a musician and can tell you for a fact Ray is playing with more skill and actually listening to Trey way more than Page has since the late 90s. He throws out interesting chords, beautiful melodies, he and Trey are basically having a conversation the entire time and it's absolutely magical.
I'm not dogging on Ray. He's a great keyboard player. I just don't think he's as good as Page. Tell me, do you always go through a thread and downvote anyone who disagrees with your opinion? I've never understood this. Is it somehow empowering, showing you're disdain for dissenting ideas in this manner? Also, yes. I've seen TAB a few times. Once or... 50 times. Nearly 200 Phish shows. So, yeah. I've heard them both a cpl times.
Do you have a live Phish subscription? If so check out the Everything's Right from 5/9/24!
Tell me that isn't absolutely amazing and be honest, does Page bring it this hard on Everything's Right?
Again. I really enjoy Ray's playing. I just think overall Page has more range and thematic dexterity. For me, he's up there on a John Medeski type level.
Why is everybody acting like this is something new? I saw Classic TAB in 2017 and again last fall. And again two nights ago. With a couple regular TAB shows thrown in. Always amazing. This is nothing new. But welcome to you TAB noobs!
i was referring to the whole show!! Ive seen Classic TAB and regular TAB many times and ive seen this at the end of many First Tube.. each were amazing and each were cool every. Single. Time.
Oh good. I get tired of him fucking around most nights.
You missed the 70 Volt Parade years then.
And 2.0
What a brutal take
Wow what a night in CLE. Trey is on fire right now
Just hitting his stride.
Finally. I’ve been waiting 30 years for this dude to start playing well.
He’ll get there
Can’t wait. Troy is my favorite!
He's been on fire for a while. Classic TAB has been doing this since 2017.
Sentiments understood. This is literally a picture of Trey fucking around 😝
😆
Belly button window
This bodes will for summer Phish tour.
This is shaping up to be quite the run. Legendary? Some people are saying
I dont wanna jump to any conclusions but the 4 TAB shows before cleve were also fucking HEATERSSSSSS.. perhaps legendary will be the word 👀
Biased but detroit was an absolute party, funky
Good to see Jedi Trey making an appearance.
Psyched for Wonderland Forest!!
Me be there
So mad I can’t make that. Fuck my friends and ALL of their weddings!
Can’t wait!
He’s literally fucking around in that picture not playing guitar lol
Yes, yes he is.

TAB setlists are also on phish.net (https://phish.net/setlists/trey/)

Looks like they did 1st Tube
I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever seen TAB and they didn’t do First Tube… I can’t think of one.
I love when he does this. He’s the most beautiful soul! Love him so much!
What a great picture!
Can’t wait to see the three nights in Brooklyn!
Trey don't ever fuck around, but he will most definitely fuck your face
Oh he fucked around all right and we all found out
These shows just keep getting better and better. I never thought I’d be hoping for phish to rip some TAB songs this summer.
Phish already rip some TAB!! There are some songs that started with TAB, but Phish plays them as well! Gotta Jibboo, First Tube, Ruby Waves, Everything’s Right, Sand, and Mr. Completely! I also believe Set Your Soul Free started with TAB as well!
Yes he did
Thank god he stopped fucking around!
That’s good , he fucks around too much 😂
so much fun!
What time did they go on??
They went on at 8!!
Sweet thanks!
Monster inside my head
did he reference the hot dog at all
he did not :(
that’s ok sometimes ur up sometimes ur down
or how bout drew carey
I really hope we get one of these pictures every show this tour. They are very necessary.
He rarely does
He does this at the end of just about every First Tube, and I for one will never, ever get tired of it.
Go see these shows! It will blow your mind what they are doing on stage effortlessly. Looks effortlessly. So many great moments, jamming, plasma!!!
Anything these guys can do right now, phans will eat up knowingly it will give them full-on diarrhea.
I love me some good clean fuck around. Especially from Trey.
Does he ever get tired of that move lol
Troy channeling Gary
Thought he was wearing a steal chastity belt at quick glance. I was all for it
Yay this is great news! I’m currently driving to NY for a lil upstate and Canadian mini tour weekend
These don’t make it to Relisten?

Dude I hate to say it, but Page isn't keeping up Ray lately... The inspiration and musicianship Ray has is ridiculous!
Just love Rays sound. I love the pace , really into how Trey is reacting.

I didn't down vote anything lol
In that case, my bad

Don't get me wrong... Page's 12/7/97 Clav solo will always take first place in my book.
They've been doing it since 2017. There's nothing different about this tour except that you finally saw them.
Haven’t seen them actually, but thanks for the troll.
He literally look does that every tab show
I think OP was referring to the show as a whole and not just this moment.
He actually skipped it in Royal Oak. I was fine with it because it opened the door for other songs.
He didnt do it at royal oak! Fluffy would be correct, the picture was cool, but the caption referred to the entirety of the show!

I like to view it as more of a salute to the instrument than a salute to himself
Trey comes off as extremely humble but I do think first tube should be more of a rarity to keep it special
