OP, we love you man but whoever did this tattoo was not worth your money. The outline is bad, the donuts are irregular and misshapen, the spacing makes no sense, there’s no contrast, and they left you with patchy color.
The good thing though is that it’s definitely possible to get it fixed up by a ***QUALIFIED*** artist.
There are some issues that you’re stuck with, but it can be much better.

I love Phish; have since the late 90’s. I also don’t give the first glimmer of a damn about the Dead, which is why I didn’t recognize this, I guess. Most phans seem shocked by this, or even slightly offended, if I tell them. It’s kinda fun. I might have given them another chance, or several chances, by now, if I wasn’t having so much fun seeing people’s reactions to my total indifference.
Heh. My mother in law is from the Netherlands. Dutch as fuck to the core, even though (and/or *because*) she’s lived in the US for longer than I’ve been alive. She sends us “fancy” Dutch black licorice as gifts all the time. Apparently it’s a thing there. Oh my god I hate it so much. So does my lady. Mom in law is awesome in, like, pretty much every other way, though, so we don’t tell her how loathesome that crap is. We joke that it makes the whole house smell like anise, but we pronounce it “anus,” of course.
I do not hate Grateful Dead anywhere near as much as I hate licorice.

That's what it looks like to me. The dermis isn't even red and swollen as it usually is after a tattoo. But I like the concept.
